  1. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 5, 2013 -> 04:07 PM) What's the average AL OPS for LF vs. 1B this year? Last year, he was a league average LF, it was in the 725-735 range. Average MLB OPS is .779 at 1B, .740 in LF
  2. QUOTE (winninguglyin83 @ Jul 5, 2013 -> 03:36 PM) Just curious: Why do the Sox believe Tekotte is a big-league outfielder? Just wondering they're expecting him to bring? Speed? D? Not ripping. Just wondering. The ability to walk and hit for power. He could very easily be a .725-.750 OPS bat off the bench that can play all 3 OF spots. He's been hitting the piss out of the ball in AAA (.938 OPS over previous 30 games). May as well give him a shot.
  3. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 5, 2013 -> 03:27 PM) Gotta be it. Man, Dwight, Lee, Iggy, Curry, Thompson is f***ing filthy if it happens. RIP western conference. And the Lakers have said they wouldn't do a sign and trade, but when push comes to shove, you do the sign and trade. The Cavs weren't going to S&T LeBron either, and guess what ended up happening in that scenario? Cleveland traded him because it's better getting something than nothing.
  4. Oh, and I think they can either roll with Barnes off the bench or move him, possibly in a sign and trade with LA. He's definitely a piece that a semi-rebuilding Lakers team would be interested in.
  5. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 5, 2013 -> 03:13 PM) 4/48 I don't see how Barnes fits in now. They must be planning on moving him. This is getting interesting. That's a good deal and leaves them plenty of room if they are able to get rid of Biedrins/Bogut/Jefferson. Considering all those are expiring deals, they should be able to move them too.
  6. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jul 5, 2013 -> 03:04 PM) Looks like Andre Igoudala signed with the Warriors. I think somethin' big about to happened with GS. They are going to be really dangerous next year. Iggy is a great pickup for them. If they could get Howard somehow, they have to be one of the favorites in the NBA. If you aren't getting better, you're getting worse. How much did they give him?
  7. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 5, 2013 -> 12:34 PM) Not brilliant, just logical. Like when they picked Prior over Mauer and it was logical for the Twins to take Joe. The Twins took Mauer first, the Cubs had the 2nd pick. Not sure if that's what you meant. That's why it was such a shock.
  8. Baltimore really makes a lot of sense as a location for Dunn
  9. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Jul 5, 2013 -> 12:02 PM) If teams can overlook his flaws and just look primarily at his power numbers, lets trade him to that team Asap! To some extent, I agree, but Dunn has an .845 OPS against right handed pitching this year. You can get some value for him, though as the title of this thread suggests, you do probably need to eat some salary.
  10. I'm not crazy about a guy with a career OPS of .714 playing 1B. I like Viciedo and think he can be a good hitter at some point, and there's no reason to get rid of him heading into next year, but he's walking on thin ice.
  11. Yeah, he had Tommy John. He's not even going to throw a baseball until like October or November.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 5, 2013 -> 11:18 AM) I would say there is a pretty good chance no one claims Gimenez and he ends up at Charlotte. I'd give it a 99% chance
  13. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Jul 5, 2013 -> 10:27 AM) I have to root for a Hoosier? Ugh. Took at a glance at his minor league numbers, is there any reason to think 2013 isn't a fluke? .966 OPS this year, previous best season was a .743. Yes. Phegley was considered a very good and talented hitter coming out of college, but in his second year he was diagnosed with ITP. It took some time, but he was finally able to get some control of it last year and he has been quite healthy this year. If the health remains, there's no reason to think he can't be a good bat.
  14. QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jul 5, 2013 -> 10:23 AM) Sox need a catcher. Phegley and Flowers will be just fine for the remainder of the season
  15. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 5, 2013 -> 10:17 AM) I never said I wanted him (Olivo/Shoppach) to play more than once every ten days. Just that it would be MUCH better to have an experienced tutor/mentor in that position than someone like Gimenez, who was never part of the long-term plan in the first place. I don't think they want to platoon Tyler and Josh. One player should be the clear starter (for the time being, Phegley), and the other should be getting everyday at-bats in Charlotte. Continuing to develop these two and seeing who can be a starter for them going into the future, if either can, is the proper thing to do. They know that both of them can hit the pitching at AAA. Let them play an equal share going forward.
  16. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 5, 2013 -> 10:12 AM) Then sign Granderson, Morales, Utley and McCann. BOOM, steak dinner! C McCann 1B Morales 2B Utley SS Beckham 3B Gillaspie LF Viciedo CF Granderson RF Rios (if he's not traded) DH Dunn Instantly competitive team, lol. Even then, you have to worry about Viciedo, Beckham's defense at SS and Conor repeating his 2012 performance (essentially being a 675-725 OPS type of player). That team could just as easily get hurt or get old and win 70 games with all kinds of money tied up. The Sox, if they do sign free agents, really need to limit it to about 1-2.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 5, 2013 -> 08:12 AM) Phegley has 8 passed balls in 60 games in Charlotte. Flowers has 7 passed balls in 65 games in Chicago. I'd also like to think the breaking stuff might be a bit easier to catch in the minors. You should not expect this at all. I wouldn't think so. You'd think you'd see guys feature more breaking stuff (because 89 MPH fastballs are pretty easy to hit) and you'd see worse control of it.
  18. QUOTE (GreatScott82 @ Jul 5, 2013 -> 08:59 AM) Those numbers are great. Unfortunately his poor strike out rate (strikes out once in every three at bats), not impressive .303 OBP and terrible batting average .207 cancels out any type of production he brings to the table. If another team can overlook his flaws and focuses primarily on his RBI and Home run production, than make that deal ASAP! No it doesn't. He's a flawed player, surely, but he's a valuable player.
  19. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 5, 2013 -> 08:29 AM) Then good luck selling any season ticket to non-corporate clients.... We still have numerous other options in the trade market/s as well as off-season free agents. Look at it this way...following the M's model, are you better off giving Jordan Danks 250-300 at-bats in 2014 to prove he can't play everyday (the only position he'd fit with his skill set and limited power is CF, and he would be replaced by Thompson eventually)....or putting the likes of a Morse, Ibanez or Bay out there and then trying to flip them at the trade deadline for some prospects? After this disaster of a season, they aren't going to be selling a lot of tickets anyways. Besides, that's such a small portion of the revenue anymore that it doesn't matter, yet you continually bring it up. Anyways, you give Danks playing time down the stretch in 2013 to prove whether or not he can play. When he almost certainly proves he's nothing more than a 4th outfielder, you can try and pick up guys that make sense in the outfield, or you can give Thompson a try, or Danks, or whoever you pick up in trades, or free agents, or whoever. Also, I'm not sure you want to follow a model that the Mariners are following, especially considering the 2 winning seasons they've had in the last 10 years.
  20. Olivo, Shoppach, and Francouer are going to make you worse, not better. If you pick up veterans, you pick up guys like McCann, Morales, Granderson, whoever. Guys that don't f***ing suck
  21. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 5, 2013 -> 04:57 AM) Olivo's name jumps out...as a back-up for Phegley and veteran tutor. Kelly Shoppach was just DFA'ed recently as well, although I think he accepted the assignment. Francouer would simply be a stopgap or placeholder in case we trade Rios... None of these are good options. When the Sox start dealing players, you use players from within the system. No need to pick up retreads who will not do anything towards the future
  22. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Jul 3, 2013 -> 04:23 PM) As someone who grew up watching MJ, when it comes to the NBA Im stuck in the 90s. That was another part I was going to mention, but whenever I say anything about Thibs it leads to pages of argument. I think he needs to be slightly more unpredictable with his rotations. Not sitting the same guys at the same points, give the other team something to think about have to adjust to. The thing I noticed most about the Heat in the playoffs, and frankly the regular season too, was basically playing at 75% and being mechanically smooth in the first half and first 3 quarters of a game, and then they'd turn it on in the 2nd half/4th quarter and put teams away.
  23. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Jul 3, 2013 -> 04:14 PM) No I think they all know when players are in trouble, but if you look at the list of arrests or the article above there wasn't a whole lot of special treatment above what is typically seen around. At Miami Ben had a video guy following him around that I'd alot of the coordination for the program. At OSU under Tress, the strength coach did the babysitting. Florida arrests http://articles.orlandosentinel.com/2010-0...anor-possession Frankly I think the tenure at Florida and the type of kids he brought into the program was a learning experience for Meyer. We've seen a much better class of kid so far recruited and meanwhile Florida already has 4 arrests this year which is actually on pace for more than during Meyer's tenure. That's the thing, I'm not arguing against Urban Meyer in general, just Urban Meyer at Florida. He brought in apparently the greatest person since Mother Theresa to play QB for him, but there were a ton of s***head thugs all over that team. He actually came into a dirty program this time, so keeping it clean and checking character concerns would seem to be pretty important.
