  1. I think any expectations for the next 3+ weeks can be thrown out the window because we have absolutely no idea what the new front office is going to do.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 9, 2013 -> 03:11 PM) He is going to Buffalo, which coincidentally is one big fat dump. Well we have to drive through either Detroit or Cleveland, which, regardless of which we take (Cleveland is shorter and keeps us in the US the entire trip), will be the biggest dump we see.
  3. I see the Pirates organization as one trying to emulate the Rays. When have the Rays, since 2008, made a big midseason move?
  4. Personally, I think they are in the process of weeding out dinner reservations while also getting the new workplace set up for a s***show of a celebration. Also, they are waiting to hear back from the strippers with whom you will be celebrating the new job. Also, they are probably sizing up your throne too.
  5. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 9, 2013 -> 02:37 PM) I agree with you. Hanson has seen his stock slip a bit, if I'm not mistaken, so he could be very attainable. It's too bad there aren't more teams involved in the bidding, because Polanco would be an incredible get that is an overpay but not so much of one that the Pirates couldn't be driven to do it if they had to. As it is, I'd think Stetson Allie might be a possibility in a Rios deal. I used to love Tabata, but I think I'm off that bandwagon -- and we have a ton of OF coming up, so a placeholder isn't all that attractive. I'd rather just give Tekotte/Danks more ABs and get a second decent prospect if it comes to that. Allie has been quite the story thus far. Total White Sox prospect at this point too. So long as he doesn't constitute too much of the value - as a final piece or throw-in or whatever you want to call that player in a trade - I'd love to add him to the organization.
  6. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 9, 2013 -> 01:58 PM) Because it's a lot more likely that the White Sox try to find guys like the names mentioned (for 1B/3B) than giving Andy Wilkins a shot...players that are in the doghouse with their teams, which might make them more available than would otherwise be the case. You are far likelier to make headache for headache trades (or whatever you will) in the offseason than you are in the regular season. You also still have to give up value to get them. To get Lawrie, you are likely going to have to give up someone like Hector Santiago still because they certainly aren't going to give him away. The players with less value you will acquire are those coming up on their arb eligible seasons. If Seattle is going to get rid of Smoak, and you want to assure yourselves of getting him, then you can trade for him then.
  7. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 9, 2013 -> 12:48 PM) No part of that is a good thing. Going to be so awesome. All day driving but we'll take turns. About 14 hours from Minneapolis, which is where we'll take off from.

  9. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 9, 2013 -> 10:29 AM) Cutler day on Jaws' QB rankings. Jaws has always been the most optimistic pundit when it comes to Cutler, but he's losing faith. Maybe a competent offensive mind and line can help him out.
  10. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 9, 2013 -> 10:15 AM) Yeah. I mean he's proven that he can barrel up first pitch fastballs over the center of the plate. I can't hold my breath until I see him hit when pitchers have a better plan for him. Not trying to be cynical. Well, he can hit fastballs. That's better than the last prospect to come up during a s***ty season and hit home runs.
  11. QUOTE (Dunt @ Jul 8, 2013 -> 11:16 PM) I have no idea how guys like Heaney, Meyer, Ranaudo, etc. are rated above Johnson If he keeps striking people out, he will rise. Worrying about guys not being in the top 50 or the top 100 is really not a big problem for the Sox, especially for pitchers. Santiago and Quintana were never ranked, and they are perfectly capable major leaguers. Sale was ranked 20th, but he is looking like one of the best pitchers from that group - other pitchers above him were Teheran, Hellickson, Chapman, Taillon, Shelby Miller, Moore, Pineda, Lamb, and Montgomery. It's tough to take anyone over Sale amongst those pitchers, but you can surely make arguments if you'd like. The Sox can find and locate pitchers, so their rankings are something that, really, you don't need to concern yourself with.
  12. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Jul 9, 2013 -> 09:46 AM) 2003 was probably the best paper team in 50 years for us and we missed the playoffs. If 2005 was a fluke we deserved it after underachieving sooften. Absolutely. It was about damn time everything fell into place for a Chicago baseball team after 88 years of disappointment.
  13. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 9, 2013 -> 09:09 AM) It wouldn't be the feminine part that makes me embarrassed. It would be the part where I'm horribly inept at it. I don't think I'd have a problem doing it in public if I was able to look like I knew what I was doing. When I was living with my ex 3 years ago, this is exactly what happened to me. I did Yoga with her and got absolutely punked trying to do some of the stretches.
  14. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Jul 9, 2013 -> 09:26 AM) 15 more days until camp So looking forward to football this year. I think me and my Bills friend are going to DRIVE to Buffalo in December. It is going to be sweet
  15. I will always love that team, and it was constructed incredibly well, but that was just about the flukiest team I've ever seen.
  16. If you actually read the ITP wiki...taking the source for what it's worth, wiki is still pretty good...it appears an ITP diagnosis is actually a bit of a blessing. To actually come up with that diagnosis, they actually rule out a lot of very serious conditions before they can make that diagnosis, most notably leukemia, HIV, and hepatitis C. Total novice guess here, but I'm guessing ITP itself isn't incredibly dangerous or serious but rather that they have to make sure it isn't anything else before hand, though a low platelet count is never a good thing and that isn't to say you don't need to be on a strict regimen to recover to full strength.
  17. Well that's interesting. Guys on the board are happy Rios almost physically attacked his superior (let's not act like Williams is some unathletic punk either, considering his major league heritage, son who played professional baseball, and son who plays for the 49ers) when Williams kept the Sox extremely competitive for the better stretch of 10 years. I look at 2003, 2006, and 2010 as years where the team literally fell just short, while I look at 2005 and 2008 as years where the team broke through, and most other years the team was atleast competitive. Really, in the grand scheme of things, the Sox were probably one of the top 10 most successful franchises of the past 10-15 years.
  18. QUOTE (2nd_city_saint787 @ Jul 8, 2013 -> 09:37 PM) Has Ptact ever touched on his illness? Is there potential for it to creep back up on him? Simple google search suggests Recurrent ITP is uncommon
  19. QUOTE (Brian @ Jul 9, 2013 -> 05:42 AM) Perfectly timed but the Machado play the other day was better to me. Maybe because I think Gomez is a douche and acted like it after the catch. What was Votto complaining about to the ump after the catch? Votto didn't think he caught it because he never showed the ball to the umps. It's amazing Votto hit that ball that far. He got the sweet part of the bat on it, but it didn't even look like he put a good swing on it. He is strong.
  20. What I find most amazing about all of this is the amount of dirt that has come out with strings attached to Hernandez after the fact. It's just amazing that one alleged murder can unbury this many potential skeletons.
  21. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Jul 8, 2013 -> 02:14 PM) Overall, I wouldn't agree that Rios has earned all the money the Sox have paid him since 2009. It hasn't been a coup by Kenny Williams, by any means. And, going forward, it's not a contract you want on the books unless you also bring back Peavy, Danks and Ramirez, among others. Considering they got a guy who has been as good as Rios for merely assuming the contract, it was absolutely a coup by Williams. And, if you don't find an offer, you don't mind bringing Rios back. You certainly look to move him but it's not a big deal either way.
  22. Well had I known that was Phil Rogers, I would have stopped reading immediately. I just do not respect his opinion when it comes to baseball, even if he is a baseball writer.
  23. Remember when the Sox sucked HAHA OH THAT WAS TODAy are they winning
