  1. QUOTE (ChWRoCk2 @ Sep 23, 2009 -> 01:05 PM) Voting Sanchez. Hes doing a great job for a rookie and they don't exactly have the greatest offensive weapons. He beat the Patriots of all teams last week as well. I definitely liked him over Stafford but didn't think he would be 2-0 out of the gates. and it was the mega offensive performance that Sanchez had that kept the Patriots from breaking double digits. It wasn't the fact that the coach is a defensive whiz and has crazy talent. Yep, it was Sanchez who beat the Patriots. In case you didn't notice, the Bills had the Patriots beaten too until of a moronic fumble. They should be 0-2. It's possible that they aren't as good, or that other teams around them are getting better.
  2. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 23, 2009 -> 07:52 AM) Why wouldn't we be in the running? This is the type of deal Kenny specializes in. He loves to load up his prospects to get a guy on the verge of greatness. QUOTE (joeynach @ Sep 23, 2009 -> 08:03 AM) Yeah cuz Nick Swisher, Alex Rios, and Tony Pena are all on the verge of greatness. Hell you might as well throw Roberto Alomar and Carl Everett in there too huh. see, as you can quite clearly see, ss2k said load up on prospects to get these guys. Yeah, he gave up quite a bit to get Swisher (and really only Sweeney has produced at all), but he got Rios and Pena for Brandon Allen, and that's it. He got Roberto Alomar for Andrew Salvo, Edwin Almonte and Royce Ring, none of whom were MLB quality players. He traded for Everett twice and gave up 3-4 quality relievers, depending on how you view Josh Rupe. And in both cases of Everett and the first for Alomar (they only gave up cash the second time, and he bombed hardcore), it worked out pretty damn well. He also gave up Jeremy Reed, Miguel Olivo, and Mike Morse for Garcia. How'd that work? Aaron Rowand, Gio Gonzalez, and Daniel Haigwood for Jim Thome? Chris Carter for Carlos Quentin? Poreda, Richard, Russell, and Carter for Peavy? You could mention Griffey too, but I'm not just because neither were really prospects and Griff was a real short-term thing. Point blank, Williams knows how to make these deals, and then he knows when to jump ship too. He got Floyd and Gonzalez back for Garcia, and that has worked out wonderfully for the White Sox. He dealt Young, Vizcaino, and El Duque for Javier Vazquez, and then got Flowers, Santos, and Gilmore back in return (I'm trying to forget about Lillibridge). He knows what he's doing.
  3. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Sep 23, 2009 -> 09:07 AM) IF KW pulls that crap of Pena being the closer then he needs his ass fired today! who said anything about Pena closing? Settle down.
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 23, 2009 -> 11:29 AM) The Sox won't go out of slot in the first round, so that eliminates lots of picks. Therein lies the big problem. didn't they go a bit overslot to sign Beckham?
  5. QUOTE (joeynach @ Sep 23, 2009 -> 12:28 AM) I pray Kenny doesn't go into 2010 relying on anyone named Pena Your prayer will not be answered. And in regards to Wuertz...its generally never a good idea to trade for a reliever at his peak value. The Sox gave up Allen for Pena...what do you think they'll have to give up for Wuertz?
  6. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 22, 2009 -> 09:25 PM) Wow, PK destroyed that I really don't understand why it doesn't happen more when Guerrier is in. His stuff really isn't good at all.
  7. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Sep 21, 2009 -> 02:08 PM) What i meant was that Bradley really doesn't seem to give a damn about where he plays, as long as it puts him in a place where he can win. From what i've heard he's a really isolated guy in the clubhouse, he's focused, when his focus gets compromised he gets really pissed off. With his reputation, he'd get torn to shreds by Sox fans if he struggled for 2 weeks, and then his focus would be compromised yet again.
  8. QUOTE (VAfan @ Sep 21, 2009 -> 06:57 PM) I agree with this. If you think Bobby Jenks will be the most overpaid player on the Sox next year, you only have to look out to CF to realize that won't be true. Money isn't the only way to evaluate Bobby. Can he rebound? Can he close for a playoff team? The chances are likely better on both of those questions than that we will get any kind of return that will help us next year. and if Rios puts up .300/.350/.500, will you say the same thing? I don't think anybody knows what the Sox have in Rios, and suggesting he is a bust and is overpaid based off of a month of play is very short-sighted.
  9. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Sep 22, 2009 -> 06:20 PM) Realistically Jenks and Flowers for Crawford, Sonnenstine and Navarro. Long term it hurts the catcher position but you get three years of AJ if you give him an extension and Navarro as a back-up. or you move Jenks for the parts Tampa wants. Crawford doesn't need to play center for the Sox. yeah that's a pretty terrible trade for both teams and they both would get way worse. The White Sox have absolutely no use for Sonnanstine, Navarro is garbage, the Sox weaken the hell out of their bullpen, the Rays don't lose any salary, and don't get near the talent they could.
  10. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Sep 22, 2009 -> 06:23 PM) He will be the next Ellis Burks, there I said it. uhhh...?
  11. I hope Breslow isn't on the Sox wishlist. He's put up solid numbers, but all kinds of pitchers put up good numbers in Oakland.
  12. QUOTE (docsox24 @ Sep 22, 2009 -> 12:20 PM) There are 7 position players coming back - Beck, Alexi, AJ, Paul, Getz, TCQ, Rios. AJ and Paulie will not be as good as they were this year. TCQ will be somewhere between 08 and 09, but it certainly is possible that he will continue to be injury prone. He has been his whole career. Rios is not good. He has always been overrated and never close to the 30/30 that was projected of him. I don't think he will be as awful as this year but he won't hit 280. Thus, the balancing of those 7 players will be close to a wash. What makes you certain that Konerko is back? And what makes you certain that Ramirez is coming back? The only 3 players that I can safely say are going to be back next year are Beckham, Quentin, and Pierzynski. I firmly believe Getz and Rios will be back, but I can't guarantee it, because certain scenarios could come up where those two could get traded. The Sox got Rios for free and could legitimately trade him if someone came knocking on the door and wanted to offer two very good prospects. The Sox could deal Getz and move Beckham to 2B if they feel he can handle it defensively and they can find an adequate 3B to take over. I don't see either of those scenarios playing out, but it's possible. I do not necessarily feel the same way about Alexei or Konerko. Konerko is in the last year of his deal and it's possible someone that feels they are a decent 1Bman away from competing may give a prospect or two, or perhaps a good reliever. It also seems as though the organization has soured on Alexei a bit, and if they think that Beckham can handle it at the MLB level, he could be dealt too. I think Konerko is more likely to go than Ramirez, but either is honestly possible. In the same regard, I don't understand how you know that Konerko won't be as good. He's at an .850 OPS, and his career OPS is .844. He is right at his career average right now, and it seems pretty possible that he could repeat that. What about improvement for Beckham? Getz? Ramirez? What about improvement in RF by whoever replaces Dye? C - .765 1B - .850 2B - .750 SS - .775 3B - .825 LF - .850 CF - .775 RF - .825 DH - .825 is it possible to get those OPS's from all of those positions on the field? Because if so, the offense will produce and it will produce well. Some will surprise, some will disappoint, but I don't think any of those are completely out of the question.
  13. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 22, 2009 -> 03:51 PM) Ehren Wassermann made it into the organization via open tryout. Can you throw a 90 mph fastball submarine? hell if you can throw an 80 MPH fastball submarine from the left side, you've got a chance.
  14. QUOTE (joeynach @ Sep 22, 2009 -> 03:07 PM) I would love to see the sox do the same thing. Bring in more youth and defense, and please get rid of Tony Pena and Randy Williams, please dont let them be the future core of the bullpen, they remind me of the 2007 clown car of no names. Randy Williams is a career journeyman for a reason. I hope he is no where near the bullpen on opening day. I would be willing to bet the Tony Pena becomes the Cliff Politte. I'm not about to predict that his ERA at the ASB is at 1.00, but I bet he's a hell of a lot better next year than he has been this year. His peripherals with the White Sox are very solid (K/9 of just under 8, K/BB of about 3, and, though his HR/9 is high at 1.21, it has been quite a bit lower in previous seasons). He's got pretty solid stuff, and I think he emerges in a 7th inning role next year. Getting an 8th inning guy is going to be a bit tougher, and I think depending on DJ Carrasco to do that may be a mistake. He's been a hell of a good rubber arm for the White Sox, but I think he needs to be kept in that role. I also imagine that the bullpen is going to look quite a bit different. Dotel will be gone, and I have to imagine Williams is going to atleast try and get someone to take on Scott Linebrink. He could very easily shop Jenks too.
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 22, 2009 -> 02:02 PM) I'd say it's like 80/20 that he's back. I like to think it's higher than that. He's a great player if you use him as a backup, late inning pinch hitter, and stopgap starter for DLed players, but if he's brought back for much more than that, it could turn into a pretty bad resigning. I like to think Ozzie has learned from the days of Erstad.
  16. I also believe it has something to do with being on the 40-man roster as well. Once you are on the 40-man, you will remain in team control for a while.
  17. QUOTE (docsox24 @ Sep 22, 2009 -> 11:52 AM) Actually it won't be hard because we have the same players here next year. I would bet considerable money that the team looks quite a bit different, even if the core pieces are in place.
  18. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 21, 2009 -> 10:13 PM) That's a fine point. Could very well be. Look at Scott Linebrink's splits from the first half and second half of the season over the past 4-5 years. It's incredible how predictable he is. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Sep 21, 2009 -> 10:14 PM) When any player's performance drops tremendously I start to suspect roids. That's pretty naive of you.
  19. uh, Buehrle? am I missing something? 4.08 ERA in the second half, about 5 bad starts. Were 5 games really going to make that big of a difference?
  20. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Sep 21, 2009 -> 03:51 PM) It would be great, but what would Zambrano do for that? well, we could give him a Klondike bar
  21. QUOTE (tommy @ Sep 20, 2009 -> 11:40 PM) I understand everyone gave up already but if we managed to sweep the Twins and then Tigers at home, we could end up 1st before the final six game of the season. So I guess it is one of the most important games for the Sox this season. Go ahead and tell me to keep on dreaming. see, if you're actually dreaming, then you made this post in your sleep. If you made this post in your sleep, then you need to do something else, because if you can type in your sleep, you need to be putting that to better use. Keep on dreaming dude. Just post here after you've made zillions of dollars posting in your sleep, and post here when you are actually coherent.
  22. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 19, 2009 -> 11:30 AM) This year was terrible. There are a ton of pitchers making a lot less money than Jenks that would have done better being put in the same situations. I posted his saves about a month ago. He was 50% in one run saves at that time. He had 2 or 3 games he had saves in when he came in with a 2 run lead, but the majority of his saves were in games he had to get 3 outs before he gave up 3 runs. Not exactly a tough save. 9 homers allowed and he hasn't pitched 60 innings. He's been awful, but his numbers will command $7-8 million next year. If you pay a guy who pitches 10 innings a month that amount, you better have a good team. or he better be damn good which, as you pointed out, he has not been
  23. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Sep 18, 2009 -> 10:10 PM) That dude who sig has all the no names that shut us down this season needs to update his sig,he needs to add Cy Rowland-Smith and Cy Hochevar to that list of infamy, the way this club is going,we're gonna face a few more Cys yet,UGH!!! Ryan Rowland-Smith has actually been a pretty damn good starter. Career 3.55 ERA in 24 career starts, 149.2 IP. Hochevar has been a relative bum so far though.
