QUOTE (juddling @ Sep 10, 2009 -> 01:07 AM) Back when i was at SIU and they had the crappy phone system (3 or 4 rooms to a line) i picked up the phone and happened to find on the other line a girl looking for someone else. we ended up talking because she had a sexy voice (for me that was a bit of a rasp and a southern accent). We agreed to meet that night at one of the bars downtown. I got there early with my friends and was totally gone by the time our 11pm meeting rolled around. I told her what i was wearing so she approached me in the bar and said "Hi Bill....i'm Denise." to which i drunkenly responded "Hi Denise .....boy....you sure didn't sound fat on the phone!!!!" That is a quote I'm still reminded of to this day by people that were there 20 years ago!!! win

QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Sep 10, 2009 -> 12:43 AM) Whatever,f*** the Packers. Do you think you'll get brownie points for talking up the Packers as a supposed Bears fan? You do realize the Bears have beaten them 7 of the last 10 times, right? I ain't buying that they are a really good team,my opinion and I'm entitled to it. Massive fail if your Packers lose this Sunday:D FWIW, the Bears can beat the Packers all they want. It means something, because of playoff possibilities and them being a divisional opponent and all that, but they have 14 other games against other teams. The Packers could go 0-2 against the Bears and 10-4 against the rest of the NFL, and it's still a playoff birth (unless they get royally screwed).

QUOTE (DukeNukeEm @ Sep 10, 2009 -> 01:06 AM) I refuse to speak ill of Dye after all he's done for this organization in his time here. He was a great player for us. He was the best free agent signing in the history of the White Sox organization. It's not insulting him to say that he sucks and the Sox need to move on. Right now, he does suck, and the White Sox need to move on.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Sep 9, 2009 -> 10:55 PM) Thome's main asset is his skill at getting on-base. Sure he strikes out, but he also has massive pop and walks an insane amount. His plate disipline is what seperates him from K-heavy guys like C Young and Francouer. not fixed, because you were right...just trying to keep things in perspective with some of Soxtalk

QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Sep 9, 2009 -> 10:26 PM) I might suggest that those Green Bay Packers fans here might go join a Packers forum and feel giddy about your chances this upcoming season. Most people here are from the Chicagoland area and thus Bears fans o_O what's your point? I'm a Bills fan anyway. I just like to be objective in any analysis I make. Just because the Packers are a rival doesn't mean that someone can't say that they think they could be a pretty damn good team this year. The Vikings could too, old man river at QB or not. The Bears could be pretty damn good too, even on offense, the mediocre WR corps be damned too. The Lions are going to be awful though.

Will KW continue to remake us into a speedier team?

Figgins is definitely very overrated around these parts. He's a valuable player, but he's not a $30 mill player, and that's what it may take to get him. One hamstring or groin injury, and his value drops. -
QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Sep 9, 2009 -> 07:36 PM) And the main reason was the almighty Aaron Rodgers. His QB rating was 13 points less in the 2nd half then in the 1st half. Also, his QB rating was below 70 in the last 2 minutes of halves. That isn't unlucky; it's just not being good in crunch time (in the clutch, if you will). It was also his first full year of starting. He deserves a little bit of slack.

QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Sep 8, 2009 -> 03:38 PM) People predicting GB to win 10+ games are going to be wrong, IMO. Winning 10-12 games after winning 6 the previous season is going to be extremely tough, especially since the whole defensive scheme is different. I understand Raji is a stud, but going from a 4-3 to a 3-4 and getting an immediate upgrade isn't going to happen. Next year? That isn't even certain, either. they lost something like 7 games by a touchdown or less. They were extremely unlucky to get the record they did, but they perhaps lucked out simply because they landed Raji.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 9, 2009 -> 01:00 PM) The artificial turf is what screwed Joe Crede. If he retires I wish him the best no it's not. He missed time in 2005 due to his back, he faded down the stretch in 2006 because of his back, he missed almost the entire 2007 season because of his back, and he missed 3 months in 2008 because of his back. He didn't hurt his back in the 10 games he played at the dome, 3 he played in Toronto, and 3 he played in Tampa each year. He hurt his back because he has an all-out swing, and he plays all-out defense. The artificial turf didn't do anything to help or hurt his back that Joe Crede had not already done.

What happened to Chris Young/D.Young/Hermida/Francoeur
witesoxfan replied to caulfield12's topic in FutureSox Board
QUOTE (oldsox @ Sep 9, 2009 -> 10:46 AM) Arizona sent Chris Young to AAA in August, and he hit .370 in 13 games; still not hitting in NL, however. just recently had a 3 homer game and then hit another homer the next day. Of course, those are his last 4 hits too -
not one mention of Dr. Steve Brule. You all fail. Tairy Greene (Galifinakis) and especially Steve Brule (John C. Reilly) are what make that show amazing. All the others are hit and miss, but anything with with those two is worth watching.

Will KW continue to remake us into a speedier team?
witesoxfan replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 8, 2009 -> 07:01 PM) That is your opinion and no matter how bizarre it is you are entitled to it Thome can hit for power and I love having Jim Thome on this club, but Pods can make things happen also. I would prefer to have some more homerun pop in our line up as it worked in 2008 and also in 2005, but in our World Series year we had more speed (oh Pods was on that team wasn't he) Podsednik is an adventure waiting to happen any time he reaches 1st, 2nd, or even 3rd base. I prefer baseball players who don't have to go on an adventure. -
QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Sep 8, 2009 -> 04:57 PM) ...and what if I win the lottery next week! That'd be awesome too! you'd be rich /barenaked'd

witesoxfan replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Sep 8, 2009 -> 12:19 PM) Why is it amazing to you? Pods has value on this team and has been the leadoff hitter we needed. He is hitting over .300 and has over 20 steasl and hasn't played the whole year with us. We most certainly could do alot worse or pay a lot more money for someone different. because Jim Thome is twice the hitter that Scott Podsednik is, will almost certainly sign for a deal that ties up less money long term, and can actually hit for power. If Sox fans want a player similar to Podsednik, I honestly have zero problem at all with a trade of something like Linebrink for Pierre. It was mentioned by Fathom, and it actually makes a bit of sense, even if it would mean that Pierre would end up leading off. He's a much more fundamentally sound player than Podsednik, even if he is a bit worse hitting. -

Bills released Langston Walker, who was scheduled to be the starting left tackle. Inserted into the picture is Demetrius Bell, the illegitimate child of Karl Malone. -

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 8, 2009 -> 10:24 AM) Crawford would be ideal, but would cost a lot. Look at what they got for Delmon Young. To get Crawford, it will take Hudson and plenty more after that. Whether the team is willing to sacrifice that is something that remains to be seen. Williams has supposedly gone after Crawford in the past, but that may have just been speculation by reporters and the members on here. -

it truly is amazing that people want to bring Podsednik back. and to DH no less! -
QUOTE (kev211 @ Sep 7, 2009 -> 03:17 AM) Either way with Notre Dame you either love them or you hate them, there really is no middle ground so arguing is not going to accomplish anything. The easiest way to start a sports related argument anywhere is to just say Notre Dame. Actually, I could give two f***s either way about Notre Dame. I'd say that's middle ground.

QUOTE (iamshack @ Sep 8, 2009 -> 01:08 AM) I wouldn't say there is no chance. I think if there was literally no chance, he would have been dealt after the non-waiver deadline. But that's just my opinion. Depends on who claimed him and if they were willing to give anything up. It also depends on if Williams and company would be just fine with giving him $6 mill next year; if they are, then they will offer him arbitration. It's not as if Dotel has been bad, he's just been shaky at times.

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Sep 7, 2009 -> 11:59 PM) These are some of the realistic in-system options to take spots in the pen next year. Torres, Hynick, F Hernandez, Line, Nunez, and Egbert. We can also assume that KW will make some waves in the free agent market as well. All of these arms have enough promise to make a one or two inning impact from Hudson somewhat negligible. His true impact comes from being stretched out to 5-plus innings. Also, add Garcia as a long-reliever to this pen, and we see a similar positive impact. I'd say the pen is pretty well set, aside from a small move here or there, unless Williams can deal Linebrink. Jenks, Thornton, Linebrink, Pena, Carrasco, Torres/Nunez, and a lefty.

QUOTE (son of a rude @ Sep 8, 2009 -> 12:07 AM) That's why I mentioned the salary being an issue. I would rather have Swisher and his career .360 OBP and career .460 SLG rather than Pods and his career OBP of .340 and career SLG of .380. Those stats are more important than steals for a leadoff hitter. Swisher is a much better player than Pods. Yeah, I think pretty much anyone could have told you that.
-
and he's going to get more than $4.4 mill, because there is nothing he has done this season to deserve a pay cut; as Kalapse said, he'll go to the arbiter with $6 mill at the minimum, and he'll win, and he could even go with $6.25, and he could probably justify getting that too. With the scare Williams got last year with Cabrera, there is no shot in hell he is going to offer arbitration to Dotel.
-
QUOTE (son of a rude @ Sep 7, 2009 -> 07:45 PM) He is better than Quentin and Dye offensively and defensively this season. He would also solve next years corner OF problem. Quentin, Rios, Swisher would be pretty good. Quentin was hurt for much of the year, and Dye is a free agent. Sure, Swisher may have contributed one or two more wins to the team than Dye or Quentin, but how does that affect the future of the organization?

QUOTE (GO CHI SOX! @ Sep 7, 2009 -> 09:16 PM) Offer arb and if he accepts, trade him and pay some salary, the better the propects, the more we pay, bullpen arms are hard to come by nowadays, I'm sure someone will bite. I don't believe you can trade a player who accepts arbitration until sometime in June. And I would say that Tony Pena is exactly Octavio Dotel lite. And I bet he improves on his numbers next year (and while he hasn't been good, he hasn't been as bad as a lot of people would like to think. Just look at his numbers since coming to the White Sox, and look at his last 10 outings or so).

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 7, 2009 -> 02:51 PM) We'll be really lucky if he's ready for the big leagues in 2011, and Konerko's only signed through 2010. he had a good, not great, year in AA this year, and he'll probably end next season in Charlotte. I think I'll be more surprised if he's not in the majors in 2011.
