  1. QUOTE(Soxman72 @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 11:42 PM) The point is that A-Rod is not a team player. Neither was AJ Pierzinsky when we got him ....do not listen to every hack that says stuff just because they have nothing better to do with their lives Big Frank was always given the "bad team player" rap and he has done fine even last year leading his team to the ALCS
  2. QUOTE(beautox @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 11:36 PM) The moves i would make if i were KW. Sign Bengie Molina please, as everyone has stated if AJP goes down we're screwed. He was used in a platoon back up role in Toronto and he would help us against LHP. Hes a nice right handed bat to come off the bench and hes a two time GGer and hes pretty clutch. Bengie is gone - 3 yr deal.
  3. Ok, I will bite and play along. Signs why this could happen: - Quote from the Winter meetings from KW was (and I paraphrase, I am sure someone here can dig actual quote out): Brian and I are buddies. We were together until 2am last night. I have no intention of making his team stronger and he has none either to make us stronger. Translated: What was he doing then with Brian up to 2am???? Surely he is not just kicking tires? Maybe he was.....also, when Kenny said nothing can happen between these 2 teams, typically just the opposite can occur. Do not believe me? Pull out his quote from a day before the Garcia deal where he said he felt no pressure to trade any of his pitchers and he felt good just putting the same team out there next year. - Crede will not be signed thanks to Boras long term. He has the back concerns. Yankees can afford to sign him long term and not lose a lot of production at 3B spot. Arod does have issues with the Yank fans that may never disappear. I can see this happening. Not sure what else we would give up though other than Crede.
  4. QUOTE(ChiSox9 @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 10:34 PM) "And there we have it folks, after 12 SOLO home runs from the White Sox 3-4-5-6 hitters, the Dodger's have just won the world series 13-12." Pitching and Grinding got us the first ring... pitching and grinding will be the only thing that gets us more! Again, where are we changing any pitchers by using the 10M to upgrade the OF? Garcia deal is done....now what do we do? Go get Zito ......is that what you are saying?????
  5. QUOTE(TheOcho @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 10:30 PM) He's not a free agent. Back to the old ways eh? The 80 something years without a title. I swear I read he was talking to the Dodgers http://sportsillustrated.cnn.com/2006/writ...ay.scoop/2.html QUOTE(TheOcho @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 10:30 PM) He's not a free agent. Back to the old ways eh? The 80 something years without a title. This time we have 5 pitchers too still and do not have Kip Wells starting
  6. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 10:19 PM) Bonds may have a rough time scoring from 3rd on a bases loaded walk. But he could hit 40 HRs too at the Cell .... if we are not going to be a grinding team, might as well slug our way to the playoffs.
  7. How about Luis Gonzalez for LF to go with Kenny Lofton for CF - both temporary short gaps? Luis should not break the bank and we could get him for a short, reasonable deal Last year's #s - 0.271, 15 HRs, 73 RBI, OBP 0.352, SLG 0.444
  8. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 09:44 PM) Just what the White Sox need...another slow-footed masher to join Konerko, Thome, and Crede. Gotta love station to station baseball. I did say getting Lofton with him too.....Lofton, Iguchi would provide the speed up at the top. Uribe has some decent speed at bottom of order. And we can play Pods as 4th OF who would be late inning off the bench base stealer in close games. Also, speed only helps if you can get on base and then, after you get on base, you can actually convert the steal. Otherwise you are giving up free outs and taking the bat out of your best hitters. And no one gets on more than Bonds. Of course he will need help to be moved but there are other things he brings to the Sox that not many others can. Also, Bonds is not my #1 preference. Just a thought/idea ..... I would be happy if we got Lofton for CF and then found some other vet LF too for a year or two too.
  9. QUOTE(witesoxfan @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 09:23 PM) KW seems to pretty much hate Lofton well I hope kenny can rise above such pettiness when he is trying to (hopefully) win every year and get this franchise in the spotlight for good.....yes Kenny has age issues, but he can give us 100 games in CF (platoon him with Anderson if required) and fixes our speed on the bases at lead off problem too. And he is pretty good at fielding still....and he played for us too, though I understand that is where the baggage with Kenny comes from. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 09:27 PM) He wants to close, not be a setup man. Reportedly the Yankees approached him about a job setting up for the God of the Cut Fastball, and Gagne wasn't interested. Simple then. Let Jenks set up. Is it written in stone that Jenks has to close? If you are convinced Gagne will be back to even 90% of his old self and his injuries are behind him. why would you not want the best bullpen player out there in the market. Thornton in 7th, Jenks in 8th, Gagne in 9th....we could win 15 games with BMac or Floyd starting from the 5th spot at that rate QUOTE(kyyle23 @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 09:28 PM) Bonds isnt a legit outfielder, his knee problems have turned him into a really slow fielder, and he cant get back on balls hit over his head anymore. Pods isnt a great defensive OF either, but Bonds wouldnt be much better, if any better at all. Well, with BMac pitching, most of those will be out of the park anyway And Bonds will easily cover up the runs he gives up with the runs he scores, his presence on the basepaths all the time and the influence he will have on Dye, Kong and Thome. It is all relative. Like you said, with Pods it is not like we have another Anderson in LF. Here is another idea for LF (or still better CF) - Bring back Carl Everett
  10. QUOTE(Melissa1334 @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 09:26 PM) do we really even have an extra 10mil. crede made like what, 2.5mil? isnt he getting a raise, if he does he will obviously command 8 mil or so. Melissa - I meant we have 10M more than we would have had. Assuming KW was going to sign Crede anyways for one more year.
  11. QUOTE(The Ginger Kid @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 09:22 PM) Eric Gagne for two years. Good one.....I had this thought last night too.....wonder though how we would structure such a contract with the risk/reward The other such risk/reward player I think we could get with the extra $10M is Mark Mulder, though I see it has been extensively covered in another thread and there are many issues there to figure out.....though every time I think of Mulder, I think of Carpenter....a player no one wanted because of injury....and the Cards struck gold on the way to a WS championship based on that.
  12. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 09:21 PM) Moises Alou has already signed with the Mets. Ok in that case.....Bonds is the real legit LF out there with a stud bat/OBP. I have voices in my head telling me about trading for Manny and signing Lofton as another option but I cannot imagine what we would have to give up for Manny
  13. QUOTE(bigruss22 @ Dec 7, 2006 -> 09:20 PM) I would prefer to let Sweeney, Owens, and Fields develop for another year in the minors, and sign lofton. He proved he is still effective for a 100 games, hitting over .300 and had a ton of stolen bases. If we could get him for 1 year at 4 mill, i could see it happening. Pods is to expensive for a 4th outfielder, plus we have mack and ozuna and gload to play outfield so Pods is starting or traded. I would like to trade for a leadoff man that plays left or center but options are limited and the cost may be to great, but with the Garcia trade being so low, maybe the trade market isnt as expensive as we think Getting Lofton would make the Cub fans mad too since they have been eyeing Lofton too
  14. So I was apparantly suspended for the past 1 year it seems (no clue why ) but now that that is resolved (thanks ss2K5), I am not going to bother giving my opinion on the whole Garcia deal or the failed Garland deal. Everyone has pretty much said what needs to be said about it. But what about this $10M salary flexibility we have suddenly. Clearly, FOR THIS YEAR we have: a) Holes at LF, CF, Bullpen B) could upgrade at SS c) Need a back up catcher d) In general we need to be able to have speed at the lead off position however we change the roster (right now Pods does that but if we upgrade at LF and go with someone who is not speedy) So what would you do with the $10M available now to help in those areas is what I would like to discuss in this thread. Idea 1: If for a moment we assume Pods stays in LF, we have to get a better bat for CF unless we are all sold that Anderson will suddenly get better this year. One idea for upgrading CF with the additional $$ that we have.....how about we trade for Griffey? We could probably get Cincy to take some of his salary still and get away with not having to give up top notch prospects for him. Thoughts? Idea 2: Get Kenny Lofton for Cf for a year or two (allow Sweeney to grow more and allow Anderson to be reserve OF) to be the leadoff guy, and get a stud stop gap bat for LF like Moises Alou or Barry bonds. Trade Pods or bench him as reserve OF. Idea 3: Stay with Anderson/Sweeney as the best shot in CF but decide to upgrade LF and move Pods to utility 4th OF and late inning off the bench base stealer.....just get the LF mentioned above - Alou, Bonds etc Where would you like the extra $$ allocated to? PS - I understand the emotion attached to/against Bonds, Griffey, Lofton etc but considering we are going young with pitching, and we have extra payroll, maybe it makes sense to make our O really good with players that we can get for the 1 or 2 yr deals that would help our pitching.
  15. Get him in the HOF folks.....just like Pods last year GIT R DUN
  16. MVP BASTAGES SPIDERMAN ROCKS.....how invaluable this guy has been this season? Oh, and......FOCK YOU ***GLIO :finger
  17. QUOTE(DABearSoX @ Jun 7, 2006 -> 02:57 AM) f***ING HUGE...... someone count how many versions of the word f*** have been used in this thread.... FOCKING YEAH
  18. http://chicagosports.chicagotribune.com/sp...-home-headlines After reading that article, I started worrying about what we do in a World Series game. I know - most of us will be happy if we make it the WS again. But last year, losing Carl was ok for the WS games. But with Thome..... We better start having Paulie practice 3B or something and we better have the AL win the A/Star game
  19. Frank Focking Thomas The White Sox are simply making it easier for him to get into the HOF by helping him get to his 500th HR It would be nice if he hit that 500th HR at the Cell too Best.White.Sox.Player.Ever.Period.
  20. If we are ripping Jon, can we rip Buerhle too???? COnsidering what he has been doing the last month too???? Or does Buerhle get a free pass too because he finally came through in a big game that mattered in the post season last year??? PS - 3 seconds before aboz gets on here to defend his boy? :rolly
  21. Remember as it gets warmer, the ball will fly out even more out of the park If Pods and Gooch can keep getting on base, I see a lot of 2 and 3 run jacks....and those HRs kill the opponent's backs.
  22. Last year, we did not have a single hitter hit >0.300 (total year averages) As of now, we have 6...... And the only real difference in the line up is Jim Thome instead of Crazy Carl What a sweet improvement
  23. Every time I read a poster here say we should trade Count (after we got Vazquez) if we could not extend him just made me laugh. WHo cares how old he is? The guy clearly has figured out his pitching away from the Big Apple. And with our offense this year, all pitchers can be more relaxed and do their stuff with less worries....
  24. The key is we are winning despite our bullpen being very average. Clearly, Kenny will have to bring in a stud reliever at the deadline to make this team almost impossible to beat in the playoffs. But our starters are really getting into a groove and the Count's 2nd half last year was not fluke. Thank God we extended him and did not trade him away as some were suggesting during the season. The focking Mariners might just get swept by the Tiggers....hopefully they allow us to sweep them too starting tomorrow. I get to watch all 3 games since I am in the Northwest.....cannot wait to get back from work tomorrow, open up a beer and watch some White Sox baseball
  25. Jim Focking Thome.....what can you say when he can hit bombs off a LH stud too
