QUOTE(aboz56 @ Apr 19, 2006 -> 04:42 PM) I've got an article on this coming out today that should give a good idea on where I stand on all of this. Like no one knows where you stand on Buerhle and on Frank Thomas?

Anybody seen a Cub fan these days with the "We got Wood" t shirts?

It seems to me like all of these 3 teams will be there all the way in this division..... Who do you fear the most and why? All of them seem to have pitching and hitting, and while they all have some flaws, so do we..... Hitting: I would rank it as: Tiggers, Indians, White Sox, Twinkies .... in that order Starting pitching: I would rank it as: White Sox, Indians, Twinkies, Tiggers Bull Pen: I would rank it as: Twinkies, Indians, WHite Sox, Tiggers Your Thoughts? Who do you fear the most? PS: Assume teams stay healthy relatively throughout the year

This thread is ridiculous.....sorry, but we should wait a little before trashing every pitcher that has a bad day OTOH, we should be bashing Ozzie when he leaves his rookie A pitcher to face the best LH in our division (outside of Thome) in a 1 run game.

Thome should try and steal a base here No one is looking for it to happen....NO ONE If Paulie got one last year, Thome can surely come close -

QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Apr 13, 2006 -> 06:53 PM) It is now a save situation with 4 innings left to go. We don't have much of a cushion anymore. Ozzie wanted Jenks to get a save again.....more saves he gets, more chance he makes it to All Star team (remember Ozzie will be picking AL squad this year) -
Why didn't Ozzie bring in Boone-f'ing-Logan and Matt-f'ing-Thortnton today in the 7th or 8th inning and instead go to McCarthy in a close game against a tough club on a roll????? Hopefully you learnt from your prior mistake Ozzie and are going to only use Logan and Thornton when we either are losing by a lot or winning by a lot Great game otherwise to stem the Tigger's momentum and claim some of it back for us to get on a roll. I am hoping for a nice 10 game win streak or something to get this season off to the start we should be getting off to. Well done Freddie, Thome, Crede, Bobby Jenks and BMac.
-
Frank only goes to the plate to hit the long ball because he wants #500 to punch his ticket.....why else is he playing anyways? He has the $$$, he has the ring. It is the HOF ticket.
-
WTF weren't we just walking Shelton? At least he did not hit it out of the park When you are down 3-0, Ozzie should have been demanding Freddy to throw an IBB to Shelton and go after Guillen :headshake

Not going to panic yet, but something bothers me

QUOTE(aboz56 @ Apr 8, 2006 -> 09:08 PM) Right now one thing really bothers me and it is just how bad 2 of our bullpen guys are... KW should have done better research on Hermy to find out whether he was going to be ready for the season. Now we are stuck with a suspect bullpen due to Logan and Thornton. I don't think we're going to be able to count on those guys if we want to win the division again. The pen, quite frankly is just sad. IMO neither Logan or Thornton should be on a MLB roster. And using Logan against Hafner the other day was a joke. Spending over $100 million on the team and to have these two guys out there in the pen to me is just bad management by KW. I think we're going to be fine, but KW needs to look at the pen and think to himself, I f***ed this up and I need to make it right. Neither Logan or Thornton are going to cut it. We need help down there. Why are you starting a new thread to whine about one loss? Oh wait, that is what I was told by someone a few days back..... -
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Apr 6, 2006 -> 05:39 AM) Remember those days when we had those threads with some of the fans crying poor, about how JR didn't put enough money into the team, yet the "sane" people argued that payroll HAD increased over the past 5 seasons? Ahhh those were the days. But it shows how far this team has come in such a short period of time since last season. And let's just enjoy the ride while we can. Oh yes I remember them. I remember telling some of those knuckleheads how Jerry would spend if only more people bothered to show up for games. And I would always be reminded of how that was not the case in the 90s. Well, finally they will shut up now. Thank you Jerry. Your 7 championship rings show how good of an owner you are from a professional perspective. But then when I look at all those who have worked for you (Our trainer Herm, Kenny, Ozzie, Nancy Faust, the person who picks up the phone for the Sox who has been there for 20+ years, Bulls GM Jerry Krause etc etc)......EVERYONE of them have great things to say about you and how much they want to win for you, and why they have worked for you forever, and I realize how much of a good owner you are from a personal perspective.

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Apr 6, 2006 -> 04:23 AM) If you retire Hafner in the 8th, you don't have to face him in the 9th. (Hafner wasn't up in the 7th; I don't understand that question) With six outs left in a one run game, and two lefties and a switch-hitter due up in the inning, Neal Cotts is your pitcher. No question. I defend Ozzie when he's right, and have done so when it's the unpopular position in the past. Today, he was dead wrong. So he's getting called out for it. No amount of World Series titles afford him the luxury of being completely immune to criticism. You can continue to say he's testing these guys so they can succeed in the future, but that's just you rationalizing a poor decision. Ozzie didn't throw Jenks into the fire last year, and he has better stuff, better ratings from scouts, and a better minor league track record. Jenks was in the Bigs for almost a month before he saw his first HOLD opportunity. It was almost 2 months before he got his first save opportunity. And that was ONLY because Hermanson blew the save in the 9th. Jenks was around for the save in the 10th. It was only after that 10th inning save, and the scoreless three innings in extras against Minnesota that he started being used with the lead in close games. This is exactly the kind of decision that JM is still derided for today. I seem to remember him putting a young lefty in his second game in a position to fail predictably. And if you think that one game against the Indians doesn't mean anything "in the grand scheme of things," I don't think you understand how precious every win will be in the Central division this year. Wow Gene you are on a roll

QUOTE(SnB @ Apr 6, 2006 -> 03:47 AM) I'm not one to second-guess managers after every game, everyone on here knows this. But this decision was inexcusable and the outcome was called by both me and krush at the same time. There's no reason to throw a rookie out there against their best hitter, I don't care if he's left-handed. And even if you want to play the lefty game, cotts was available. It just seems to me the last option that should have been used was, the one, the only, boone "f-in" logan. I actually called it too....as soon as I saw it on Gamecast, I flinched and said to my self.... "I better not see "Scoring play"" and that is exactly what focking happened Again, terrible move by Ozzie. Absolutely no reason to work with a rookie's confidence against a Hafner there with the game on the line. And ss2K5 - if our relivers had done the job, there would be no opportunity of facing Hafner again

QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Apr 5, 2006 -> 11:14 PM) And this proves my point that you and many, many others, don't get what Ozzie is doing at all. Ozzie does not manage for April. He is managing for October. Ozzie wants to know who has the ability to do what, in specific situations. How do you think Neal Cotts got to be mentioned as a closer canditiate, because he was afraid to use him in the 7th and 8th innings? He had to get from being a middle inning guy to a late inning guy somehow... Those weren't game 3 throw away line ups. Those were ABs to keep the back ups sharp, and the starters rested. I am sure you managed to watch September and October when we toasted everyone in our path right? Since you seemed to have missed the lessons, let me refresh you. Everything Ozzie did turned to gold. Do you want to know why? Because he knew the capabilities and shortfalls of every single player on that team. Do you think we win the World Series with Bobby Jenks as a middle relief guy because Ozzie was afraid to use a rookie in important games in August and September? It would have been Cliff Politte closing according to conventional wisdom, do you really think we win then? I hate to come off as condisending, but look beyond the box scores and Xboxs. Games aren't won on paper. I actually understand your point ssk. I just wish he would leave that for when we play the Royals or Tigers rather than when we are facing a hungry, talented team who almost knocked us out of the playoffs last year. Let's not forget that this division and maybe even the playoff chances might again come down to the last week this year......you think a 2 game swing would help then against these pesky Indians? You have a pumped up crowd all series, fresh from the WS win.....this is not the time to feel players out....right now you go for the jugular and kill these guys in our house so that they still feel like they are chasing someone. That is all that bothers me. I agree it is one game, way too early and there is an intangible benefit to doing what Ozzie is doing.

QUOTE(Harry&JimmyRocked @ Apr 5, 2006 -> 10:08 PM) I think Ozzie is gonna catch JerryManuelitis....TINKER TINKER TINKER He had a lot of JerryMaunelitis last year.....did you see his game 3 throw-away lineups? Or the need to play Timo a 1st over Gload?

QUOTE(RockRaines @ Apr 5, 2006 -> 09:58 PM) Hafner hits alot of homeruns off of alot of great pitchers. Its going to happen sometimes, get over it. Wow.....great analysis there. I guess then every time we have a great hitter at the plate, we should just let him walk and steal bases back to home.....why even bother responding with your best pitchers? Hey, we got our ring, so who cares now right? :rolly
-
Oh well at least now it probably is over ..... sorry Ozzie, but I blame you for this loss. if we do land up losing....there was no need ....none whatsoever to not finish these guys off when we could have with McCarthy followed by Jenks
-
Ok by now this game should have been over
-
QUOTE(letsgoarow @ Apr 5, 2006 -> 08:47 PM) why CINTRON? He seemed to be having a great at bat honestly.....if only he could have put bat on ball.....lets score one, get Jenks to close it out and go to KC up 2-1

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Apr 5, 2006 -> 08:37 PM) I'm fairly confident in saying that there isn't a person on this site who isn't worried about the bullpen. That being said Damaso is not the answer and none of us know how this pen is going to do over the course of the year after 3 games. Just wait and see and don't make a thread about it everytime we let up a run or ozzie makes a mistake. Can we just use this thread then going forward for the rest of the year just to vent about our bullpen? I know this will not be the last time Ozzie screws up when it comes to our bullpen JUST KIDDING

QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Apr 5, 2006 -> 08:37 PM) You got to see what Logan can do. Ozzie doesn't baby guys, he finds out what they have and whether they have the right mindset. He seems to have a knack for figuring out whether players will be strong enough to hold up in crunch situations or whether they won't. Thats why Marte is now gone and its a big reason why Munoz never got a shot with the club this spring. Ozzie is going to give these guys shots to fail, but what you have to remember is guys may fail with shots, but they can't succeed without a skipper being willing to take a shot. There is a grander scheme of things to Ozzie than just winning 1 game. He wants to win them all, but he's going to do what he can to best prepare this team to win more games and not just 1 game. You make good points Chisoxfn and I would be lying if I said I did not think of it too. I wish though that he would use it in his "throw away" game 3s (you know where we are up 2-0 and we really do not need to win game 3?). I would prefer that when we are against probably our #1 rival at home for an early division lead, we send our freaking aces to take those guys out. Confidence is a HUGE part of this game. I do not want to see the Indians taking 2 of 3 here ....too early in the season but still. None the less, good points still

QUOTE(rowand's rowdies @ Apr 5, 2006 -> 08:35 PM) mccarthy should have remained in...period. ozzie will learn to stick with him soon enough. No he will not. Ozzie will do whatever Ozzie wants to do....which is fine, since he has earned the right to do it with the ring. No issues there. But it is fair that he get called out if it seems like a dumb move and then it turns out to be a dumb move. Just because Boone is lefty does NOT mean he is good at pitching against the best lefty hitters out there (aka Hafner) on the opponent's team I swear sometimes Ozzie reminds me of Jim Riggleman with his match up theory. Which is strange because Ozzie is pretty vocal about how he does not care for matchups, theories etc and goes by gut most of the time

QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Apr 5, 2006 -> 08:32 PM) Damaso has a bs already too. Dam is done, he's got nothing upstairs. If that is really how it plays out and if Kenny knew up front he is done, then that is fine. But then maybe we should have gotten Flash Gordon in the offseason. It is not like spending another few millions would have mattered from a payroll perspective. This bullpen worries me a lot. Just my $0.02.
