  1. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ May 16, 2011 -> 05:18 PM) I think you misunderstand my point. I was attempting to do the exact opposite. I stand corrected...
  2. QUOTE (greg775 @ May 13, 2011 -> 01:30 PM) It's a common perception nowadays that wins mean nothing. I don't know how this perception took hold, but it's ridiculous. To be 0-6 is embarrassing. Danks has suffered at the hands of the poor offense since arriving on the south side. I remember his rookie season where twice a pop up was dropped that changed the course of the game. Ozzie called him a "great teammate" for taking it on the chin. When he played the Rangers a few years ago, Andy Gonzales took routine ground balls to 3rd and overthrew to 1st...not once...not twice...but three times in one inning! There's been criticism of Danks for saying he would take a QS over Wins, and citing him as greedy and selfcentered. Anyone with ANY baseball knowledge would know that the "wins" are what will pay Danks (even tho most of his career that's been out of his control) not QS. The ignorance of some posters needs to be challenged, so I did.
  3. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ May 16, 2011 -> 01:00 PM) I know that Morel has historically struggled at first offensively at each level of the minors. Can someone with more knowledge of prospects tell me how long those struggles usually lasted? Shouldn't the bigger question be "how long the struggles of the MILLION $ players last?" Why pick on the rookie?
  4. QUOTE (BigEdWalsh @ Apr 3, 2011 -> 06:02 PM) Not ready?? He's like an 8 or 9 year veteran. He's just not good. Surely there is a left-hander who can get left-handed bats OUT better than what we've seen from Ohman. And he should NEVER face a right-handed bat. AGREED
  5. QUOTE (hi8is @ Apr 3, 2011 -> 06:33 PM) Hopefully Ozzie learns to only use Ohman against lefties and Coop can help him with his location. Humber didn't look too bad - just also had location issues. I'm concerned with Matt as the closer with just 2 pitches... I'd have preferred Sale. We'll see how it rides - I think that the bullpen can get it together and is just behind schedule. Fingers crossed - it's gotta get better or things will be ugly / need to change. Again - it's only been 3 games... we've still got 159 more left... so at this point, there's no real reason to make judgments IMO. Ok....Ill just say it.....Ohman is not ready for the big leagues. Hes taking up a roster spot from someone that is.
  6. QUOTE (kwolf68 @ Apr 3, 2011 -> 03:11 PM) LOL at the hand-wringing after today. Even if the Sox go on to have a monster season, we'll get to see this same moaning and beetching 61 more times. Once again....Danks has a quality start.....with no run support! Is it Groundhog day????
  7. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Apr 3, 2011 -> 02:07 PM) Yes a team that has scored 23 runs in two days needs to be bunting in the 4th inning to get the bat into Omar Vizquel and Juan Pierre's hands to drive in the runs over Alexi. That is assine thinking every time. Ozzie lost this game....................
  8. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Apr 3, 2011 -> 02:06 PM) Not calling him an ace is not ripping him. Starters need to give you more than 6 innings. Masterson cooled down a hot hitting team today. Nobody his confusing him with Roy Halladay. Wow have these bats gone south. Check the paper for MOST starting pitchers this Opening week......most went 6 IP
  9. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Apr 3, 2011 -> 01:03 PM) Because he is a six inning pitcher. Today is the prime example of why he is not an ace. He is a really good pitcher but not worth a contract of that magnitude. 23 runs in two days....then Danks gets the shaft....again. He's the Sox ace!!
  10. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 8, 2011 -> 10:56 AM) Well the Sox would have been crazy to offer Quentin a long-term extension last season. How do we know they didn't offer Danks one? Because clubs like to let the fans know they made an offer...and the player turned it down. They come across as extending a hand....and the player comes across as biting it. When Sox made offer two years ago to Quentin and Danks, people on here called them greedy. Now, in hindsight, they (Danks at least) look smart for declining.
  11. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jan 8, 2011 -> 12:30 AM) Isn't this old news? It says that they turned down extensions last offseason. Even WORSE reporting.....the extension offer was TWO offseasons ago. The White Sox didn't offer them anything last offseason.
  12. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 27, 2010 -> 07:59 AM) New contracts are really not about "what he's earned". Sure, for favorite son type players there tends to be a bit of extra money, but mostly, contracts are given to players based on what the team thinks that player WILL do in the future. These aren't back pay bonuses. Not true....arbitration is comparing one player to another that had similiar seasons.... Your pay is based on what youve already done.
  13. QUOTE (beck72 @ Dec 23, 2010 -> 09:44 AM) Those 2 signed those deals when they were in the same spot Danks is now--2 years from free agency. It was basically a 2 yr extension. It makes sense for Danks to sign an extension now [to get $40 mill. in his pocket]. And he'd still be in line to be a free agent at 29--good enough to sign a 6, 7 year max deal. Too bad the Sox don't want to pay him what he's already earned. All this talk about "Danks wont agree to extension.." Actually...Sox aren't offering him what he's earned. He could suck this year and he's still a valuable, young, lefthanded, dependable, workhorse starter..... MLB made the rules for salaries. Cant fault Danks for taking care of himself.
  14. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 20, 2010 -> 02:16 PM) Felix Hernandez Justin Verlander Josh Johnson Yovani Gallardo Jon Lester Brett Anderson Ricky Nolasco What do these guys have in common? They've all signed multi-year extensions in the last year. Other than Nolasco and maybe Anderson, everybody on that list is better than John Danks. I don't want to trade Danks. But if he's as determined to test the FA market as it appears, there's really no other option. I don't want draft picks. As I don't trust the franchise to properly utilize them anyway. My question is at what point do you legitimately look to deal John assuming there's no agreement on an extension? You could obviously get more for him now since he's under control for two more years. Do you ride it out this year, attempt to get a deal done next offseason, then trade him if you can't get one done? This concerns me very much. If we have to trade him I want the absolute max that we could get back. And the more time that goes by the harder and harder it will become to do that. Sox are throwing around money....then their "tapped out".....then Crain gets 3/$13M as a reliever. Floyd got/Danks offered 4/$14 (while asked to throw 200+ innings. Danks has been a workhorse the last four years....and is still only 25. If the Sox want to underappreciate him, Im sure he feels its best to ride out his years here and move on.
  15. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 19, 2010 -> 07:48 AM) Included in what sense? Great performances....underappreciated/valued
  16. Danks is included in a BP "under the radar" article. Hope the Sox can lock him up with a fair offer.
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 11, 2010 -> 07:51 PM) Crowd booing....13 hits allowed by Jackson. Once again, he hasn't been the same since we abused his arm two weeks ago. You are not a TRUE Sox fan if you can boo a pitcher that's pitched so well for us. Undeserved. Just like some calling to trade Danks/Gavin. Where have you been? Certainly not watching gutty performances with little support or defense. Do those guys complain? They know this is a TEAM SPORT...some days you pick up the team...some days they pick up you. Glad we have Edwin!!
  18. QUOTE (Real @ Sep 8, 2010 -> 09:29 PM) This season is winding down just as it should have: better team taking the division agreed.....Twins hitters can be counted on to hit the ball every night.....
  19. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 8, 2010 -> 08:58 PM) To actually pitch over an error? Danks has been far from spectacular since the ASB. Of course, pitching on 3 days rest is a pretty bad idea. Yeah...I know Oz just said in press "nobody cares what you did in April, May...", the fact remains, where would you be if those games had ben lost? Out of the race sooner. That's an assinine (sp) attitude. Danks carried us in the early months. Thanks for knowing that....Sox fans...
  20. QUOTE (La Marr Hoyt HOF @ Sep 8, 2010 -> 08:38 PM) ^^^^ Did you SEE Danks expression when the team played like hamburgers behind him?? What more do you want out of a starting pitcher???
  21. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Sep 8, 2010 -> 08:28 PM) If you were the manager, would you have sent a message and put Morel in, telling Teahen to sit his horrible defensive ass down? After that second error (which led to 4 runs), I wouldn't have hesitated. absolutely!!!
  22. QUOTE (chiguy79 @ Sep 8, 2010 -> 08:22 PM) Great attitude AJ, sayanora if that is the case...thanks for sucking the entire first half of the season...there will be some big changes next year that is for sure. Sick and tired of watching AJ hit ground balls...... Hope "HE GONE" next year!!!!!!!!!
  23. GREAT game Johnny!! Too bad your team SUCKED behind you.
  24. QUOTE (hometeamfan @ Sep 8, 2010 -> 08:08 PM) That was a T H R E E pitch T H R E E out inning Danks threw.....and his team SUCKED!!!!! This loss is not on Danks' shoulders. Gutsy outing for Danksy! Like Farmer said...."Danks must feel like he's having to do this alone."
  25. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Sep 8, 2010 -> 08:05 PM) Yeah, either way you slice it, we shouldn't be 3 outs away from getting our asses kicked. That was a T H R E E pitch T H R E E out inning Danks threw.....and his team SUCKED!!!!! This loss is not on Danks' shoulders. Gutsy outing for Danksy!
