  1. None of the baseball writers (Law, Sickels) have ever written positive things about either Danks brother. When Jordan was 17 and played in the AFLAC All-American game, he was excluded from the homerun derby because the players were pre-selected for that (Upton, Maybin). Danks sr threw a fit and got him in. Jordan won the thing handily (Upton never even made one HR) and was awarded trophy by Cal Ripkin Jr. It pissed off the powers that be to be shown up...and theyve never been on his side. Thats fact. UT didn't have anyone that could lead off and they put Danks there, even tho hed never led off. He leads or is in top 5 of several all time catagories, with only a couple errors in a 3 year career there. Law is an idiot. Jordan may not be in Chicago this year, but hes no worse than alot of players that have donned the uniform. Players like P Alvarez keep getting the hype...even after terrible years in A ball. Just the way its always been.
  2. QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 13, 2009 -> 04:17 PM) That comment was made months ago, and no one even knows for sure whether he was serious or not. The point is is that these guys measure themselves at least partially by how much money they make. Remember, these are spoiled-rotten guys that have had things handed to them all their lives due to their ability. Whether something is fair or not, or whether a guy chose to sign a contract in the past is often of no matter to them. It's simply about who makes what and how does that compare to my peers. I'm not saying certain players of ours are like this, especially not Gavin. I'm just pointing out that these squabbles come up fairly often and I think it would be best to try and keep Danksy and Gavin on a fairly similar salary plane. No one made Gavin take that offer. I wouldnt call any of these players spoiled-rotten. What kind of lifestyle were they raised in? Do you know? Pretty simple minded to make a blanket statement like that. Thats like saying a college athlete is "given" a college scholarship. They earned their scholarships....they "work" their way through college. The majority of the players in the minors are eligible for welfare benefits to supplement their incomes. Wonder if KW would be willing to earn far less than his counterparts? Or would you? Major League Baseball created this pay system. Don't criticize the players for following the rules Bud and the rest allow.
  3. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 13, 2009 -> 09:20 AM) Well, I said "terrible" so if you're going to quote it, quote it. But yes. And if you're questioning whether that was "terrible" or not, well, dropping .200 points in OPS is terrible. Agree completely....
  4. QUOTE (Steve9347 @ Oct 13, 2009 -> 09:13 AM) I think you offer the same deal that was offered last year. This would show the organization still views him the same as they did coming off that unreal season, but we will not raise our offer after such a terrible 2009. I assume youre referring to CQs "horrible" season?
  5. QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 13, 2009 -> 01:10 AM) Ahh, I was not aware that they offered Quentin the same deal as Floyd and Danks. I disagree with regards to what you said about Floyd, but I will leave it at that. Quentin was offered MUCH MORE than Danks or Floyd. Remember, Danks is two years younger than Gavin...is lefthanded, and has a year more ML under his belt. You might not think that matters, but trust me it does in the baseball front office. Danks started the season off strong and only faltered due to dealing with a nasty finger issue. Even with that, he finished strong and reached 200 innings. Were it not for the the unfortunate 7 NDs his W/L outcome wouldve been much different too.
  6. QUOTE (son of a rude @ Sep 18, 2009 -> 11:51 AM) Lets rush our cy young award winner to the bump during a season that doesn't matter!! Yeah Bro!!!~ If that's you're thinking, then WHY run out one of the best three starters in the AL in Buerhle, Floyd and Danks? They lead the league in quality starts, while playing nicked up. Danks has 8 consecutive quality starts alone. Wonder what his Win/loss record would be in Boston, NY or LAA? No one ever talks about Floyd or Danks being Cy Young winners because of the W/L record. Danks was steady in the top 5 AL pitchers last yr for ERA. Floyd had 17 wins!! Why hasn't Mark won the CY Young award? Perfect game (only 18 in HISTORY!!!), no-hitter and 200 innings pitched for YEARS and YEARS. Hope Peavy does well cuz he's wearing Sox uniform. Just sick and tired of our PROVEN starters not getting the props deserved.
  7. It's about time Peavy started! Our starters have pitched their tails off...WITH INJURIES, and he's been nursing a bruise for weeks! didin't Grienke take one off the arm last night too, but stayed in to pitch? Watched SportsCenter for highlights and no mention of Danks. Who wouldve even known he pitched? Only interested in Jenks blowing save, which was 2nd straight start for Danks he got ND. ESPN did however intrigue us with how poor Josh Beckett pitched last night giving up only THREE RUNS and didn't get the win. Danks should easily have 16 wins this season...probably more. But I'm sure he's used to by now. Climb that hill Peavy.....good luck. (rant over)
  8. QUOTE (TheHolyBovine @ Aug 16, 2009 -> 05:28 PM) Giving up 2 ERs in 1+ IP against a HORRIBLE A's offense counts in my book. hahahaha....Matt, is that you?! hahaha wannabe
  9. QUOTE (beckham15 @ Jul 27, 2009 -> 09:27 PM) well on the bright side texas is beating detroit 5-2 good to see Danks finger not bothering him.....
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 27, 2009 -> 07:43 PM) Definitely two different strike zones so far tonight. Danks is getting nothing called for him. Wow typical
  11. QUOTE (Jimbo's Drinker @ Jul 26, 2009 -> 07:32 PM) avoid the medical field! If you geniuses relied on your left hand for a career you'd probably find it a hinderance.
  12. QUOTE (Jake @ Jul 26, 2009 -> 03:48 PM) Let's see it! sorry......unable to copy it from that official site. I saw when I went to his bio page...it was 2nd pic in photo gallery. Wish I knew how to share it.
  13. Was recently perusing Sox photo gallery and ran across close up photo of Danks' injured finger during game with the Os. Glad to hear he's not dealing with that anymore.
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 17, 2009 -> 08:20 PM) Maybe if he was throwing 92 instead of 88, they wouldn't be hitting the fastball so hard. I don't think anyone can argue he's hanging the offspeed pitch too much. Berken...2 pitiches...2 outs. Nice rest for Danks
  15. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jul 17, 2009 -> 08:14 PM) Danks was all over the plate against Roberts. Start warming up CArrasco thats where AJ was calling them....did you not see him practically standing when Danks threw?
  16. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 17, 2009 -> 08:07 PM) Haha, Alexei showing absolutely no range to his right. That's a play that 95 pct of shortstops make and get the force. Danks in trouble again. nice D
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 17, 2009 -> 08:06 PM) Danks has hung just about every breaking pitch he's thrown. AJ needs to quit calling them
  18. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jul 17, 2009 -> 08:00 PM) No they dont haha...check the salaries of Konerko, AJ, Thome, Roberts, Markakis.....
  19. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jul 17, 2009 -> 07:55 PM) Just because he's striking out a few players doesn't mean his stuff is as crisp as usual. His fastball is down a few MPH and his changeup has hung more than a few occasions already in the second inning; including the HR. They pay the hitters too.
  20. QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Jul 17, 2009 -> 07:49 PM) Danks looks like s***. Nothing he is throwing looks sharp. What game you watching?
  21. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 12, 2009 -> 03:27 PM) The display by our pitching staff this series is pathetic. One tough inning for Danks....many borderline pitches in the first. Two hits after that. Think its coincidence that it was a matchup of game 163? Have you ever seen Danks walk four in a row? Just saying....little suspect.
  22. QUOTE(max power @ Jan 17, 2008 -> 02:27 AM) I am not convinced danks has what it takes to be a guy who can pitch 170 innings in a year, even in the minors, as he has never done it. So I went with floyd. I think these guys are better than most though, and both will have unexpected(by people here at least) years. Check out YouTube "tribute to John Danks." Important to note how much run support he had in each of these games. Decent rookie season...pitched well enough to have more wins.
  23. QUOTE(fathom @ Mar 2, 2007 -> 11:43 AM) Nope, according to his pitching coach from last year, he throws between 88 and 90 mph. I'm with you Flash, I'm with you. Wrong....Danks has an easy stride of 89 - 93mph (hits 94 once he gets cranked up). Tell me you aren't listening what the Rangers say about pitching! LOL
