JUAN PIERRE
QUOTE(That funky motion @ Nov 25, 2005 -> 03:39 PM) It could also be KW flying under the radar. If a Pierre trade does not work out.it will be Anderson so he says we are going with the kid. He said the same thing at the trade deadline about staying with what we have, then we found out about the KG deal. KW has done it in the past going so far as publicly saying the sox had various players to possibly start, in Uribe, Rowand, Harris, Ben Davis, etc. KW hasn't even given Anderson the nod. Though he could publicly say he'd be happy w/ Anderson in CF. If there are rumblings about the sox looking for Ichiro, Gathright and Pierre, the sox are still looking to improve if the right deal comes about.

Jerry Owens
QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Nov 25, 2005 -> 02:05 PM) I read somewhere that Owens was somewhat shaky in center field with a mediocre arm. I would like some more input on his defense in CF as well. If he plays solid to above average defense in LF, he could platoon w/ Anderson. Pods would then move over to CF. If Owens has good range, he could make up for Pods' average range in CF. With his great winter, Owens will get a long look in ST. If Owens is very close to the majors, going after Pierre would be less important.

What to do with Duque...
QUOTE(indyman @ Nov 25, 2005 -> 03:03 PM) I don't think El' will be traded. I think El' & Jose are linked together. In many ways El' is Jose pitching coach. He'll be fine as a sport starter and long relief guy. If El Duque says he wants to start, which we heard rumblings this yr that he wasn't happy about possibly being left of the playoff roster, then he may want to be traded. There's a difference if the sox unload him, and EL Duque is bitter about the trade. Then it could affect Jose's attitude. If it's El Duque's call, then bye bye.

What to do with Duque...
QUOTE(southsider2k5 @ Nov 25, 2005 -> 01:16 PM) I get the feeling that Hernandez will come to camp with the Sox to compete with Brandon for the 5th spot. If all things are equal, McCarthy will be the 5th starter and Hernandez will be traded somewhere at the end of March to someone who either has an injury, or realizes how bad their rotation is then. Good call. He'd have more value if he's a] healthy and b] another team has an injury.

Jerry Owens
I've looked, but has anyone given reports on how Owens' defense is? I know he's played LF. But CF?

Sox inquire about Joey Gathright & Aubrey Huff
QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ Nov 24, 2005 -> 08:07 PM) The Drays would probably want pitching (although I just said they'd want some outfield prospects). I just don't know how much more pitching the Sox could give up. Could they (The DRays) have interest in Willie Harris (I don't really follow them much so I don't know there needs) and a pitching prospect (it would have to be a good one though...Gaithright is pretty well thought of, IIRC). Here's one...would they do a Josh Fields for Gathright swap? Looking at his stats closely he's had somewhat of a regression in terms of drawing walks, but he doesn't strike out a ridiculous amount of times. The odd thing is he has so few doubles and triples (that could be due to the parks, but once again I'm not all that familiar with the Drays organization as a whole). I could live with a Fields and a guy like Baj and Adkins. Give them arms but expendable arms

Sox inquire about Joey Gathright & Aubrey Huff
QUOTE(JimH @ Nov 24, 2005 -> 07:53 PM) Agree totally, and he made strides in that regard in '05. I'm not surprised at all the White Sox are asking about him, he is Guillen's type of player and exactly what they want in the #2 hole, speed to burn. He would thrive here. If the sox got him, they probably wouldn't need him to hit in the #2 hole right away [though he could very likely put up similar numbers as Iguchi]. Yet if he had the skills to take over the #2 spot by say late may or June, it could be a decent option I could see some type of platoon situation with Anderson. Anderson could also move to LF and give Pods a day off. That's not the worst way to bring up rookies [i still think Gathright would be considered a rookie IIRC], playing them each against favorable matchups

Could Iguchi be moved?
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Nov 25, 2005 -> 10:45 AM) Yeah I actually suggested moving Uribe to the #2 hole late in the season when he was running hot, to help improve things a little offensively. I think, if he continue practicising with that leg kick, and continue on with the form he showed with the bat in the 2nd half of the season, he could still hit in the #2 hole, if that's the course of action the Sox decided to take with moving Gooch down the order. But remember, Uribe is a terrible basestealer, which is not going to be a plus for Ozzie. I can see Uribe there as a decent backup in case the #2 hitter got hurt. But you're right, his baserunning isn't a plus

What to do with Duque...
El Duque will probably be traded. He most likely will want to start, and the sox will give him that opportunity by going to another team. BMac is already the 5th starter. That isn't even up to debate

Could Iguchi be moved?
QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Nov 24, 2005 -> 07:45 PM) Is it possible that Ozzie won't necessarily get everythign he ever asked for this christmas? I think it's absolutely impossible that KW would grab Thome for Rowand without clearing it with Ozzie. If that's one of the only presents Ozzie's asking for [which the list of needs isn't long at all] sure.

Could Iguchi be moved?
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Nov 25, 2005 -> 10:31 AM) I'm guessing right now, if a move was going to be made, from this current lineup, it could only be Juan Uribe who could hit there, since he's done it sucessfully before. And besides the bunts etc., if you look at Iguchi's K's and Uribe K's from 2005 and 2004 when they both hit in the #2 hole, there's not really much of a difference (114 for Iguchi and 96 for Uribe). Tad had a +.16 in OBP though. Uribe did show a lot better patience the last month and in the playoffs after working w/ Walker on that little timing "kick".

Could Iguchi be moved?
QUOTE(Jeckle2000 @ Nov 24, 2005 -> 07:17 PM) Are you serious? Ozzie said over and over how Iguchi was his MVP... Sorry I don't give a s*** how sexy their hits were in the playoffs... Offensively Uribe and Crede are the two most replacable infielders... Especially Uribe since I have no reason to believe he'll come close to his 2004 numbers and will play more like it's 2005... SS is where we need to upgrade... Iguchi is fine... Iguchi exceeded our expectations... Jeez I can't believe how many want to trade our more consistant guys from last year and keep the sleeping ones... And the viable options to replace Uribe or Crede are.....? And no Furcal and his $10 mill contract doesn't count. I said I wasn't looking to trade Iguchi. But IMO, he'd be moved before both Juan and Joe. Yes, he exceeded our expectations. but if the sox could improve in the #2 hole from what Tad did and get better defense, then it could happen. Maybe not likely, but possible

Could Iguchi be moved?
QUOTE(Adam G @ Nov 24, 2005 -> 06:17 PM) And that's exactly what will happen. Hitting behind Pods his job was to hit the other way and move the runner along. Putting him at 5 or 6 in the order will let him swing away and show the power that he has. He basically handcuffed himself at the plate this past season for the sake of the "get em on, get em over, get em in" philosophy. Gooch isnt going anywhere. Who hits #2 then?

So who is next?
QUOTE(timotime @ Nov 24, 2005 -> 04:29 PM) you want iguchi to DH? what are you smoking? I never said that. I asked if he could be traded.

Could Iguchi be moved?
QUOTE(infohawk @ Nov 24, 2005 -> 03:56 PM) There is as much chance of the Sox trading Tadahito as there is of them getting rid of Buerhle, Garcia AND Contreras. In other words, it's not happening. The Sox are very high on Tadahito, he's relatively inexpensive and possesses one of the most well-rounded skill sets among second baseman. Additionally, the Sox think he may be better utilized as a slugger toward the bottem of the order. The reason they want a speedy two-hole hitter is because they perceive that much of Iguchi's offensive production is being wasted by focusing on moving runners over and taking pitches to give Pods steal opportunities. He's very good at that, but he doesn't get to flash his extra-base power very much in that capacity. The key is, where to get that "speedy 2 hole hitter"?

JUAN PIERRE
QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Nov 24, 2005 -> 01:13 PM) I don't think it will be that steep. Flordia has a fire-sale going. They obviously want cheap young talent in return and the Sox have a lot of young talent to go around. Sweeney, Broadway, Bajenaro, Young, Borchard, Fields, Diaz, Adkins exe.... I'd say no to Young and Broadway.

QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Nov 24, 2005 -> 01:01 PM) JR & KW listens to his fans unlike most owners and GMs. Not only that but, like I said before JR wanted more power- KW obliged. Ozzie wants more speed in the 2 hole AND Pierre fits that bill perfectly! You figure even if it doesnt work out, Pierre is a free agent in '07 so then Anderson can be our CF. I don't know i just like the chances of him here next year. Sounds good. I like pierre as well. I'm just afraid the price to get him will be pretty steep

JUAN PIERRE
QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Nov 24, 2005 -> 12:51 PM) was that you beck or ssh on the score Some fan pretty much said- Juan Pierre will be on the Sox! Woohoo. I'm starting to want this now. More than i wanted it before. Not me. But why having some random fan saying Pierre would be on the sox give you hope?

JUAN PIERRE
QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Nov 24, 2005 -> 12:46 PM) Ryan Sweeney for Juan Pierre straight up! With Hermida a corner OFer, if I were the marlins, I'd want Anderson or Young for CF.

JUAN PIERRE
QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Nov 24, 2005 -> 12:42 PM) I don't think Pierre would be worth Brian Anderson considering he is a free agent after 2006. I wouldn't give up much more than Marte for Pierre. But if they are rebuilding big time, Marte would be a luxury the Marlins couldn't afford.
-
JUAN PIERRE
QUOTE(GreatScott82 @ Nov 24, 2005 -> 12:41 PM) I'm not sure. KW is absolutely in love with BA so the Marlins would have to sweeten the deal. It would have to be a 2-3 player deal. I think that would be the asking price. The marlins might have to add a prospect, esp as Pierre will be making some cash and is 1 yr from being a FA. Ahhh, to be a GM!

Could Iguchi be moved?
QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Nov 24, 2005 -> 12:09 PM) EDIT: Phil Rogers is also talking up the chances of Jerry Owens possibly beating out Anderson. Certainly if he has an excellent spring training, and Ozzie really wants that speed input at the #2 hole, I wouldn't completely rule it out, although right now it's a 90% bet that Brian Anderson will be patrolling CF come opening day in 2006. If Owens is that close to the majors, either he or Anderson could be moved [which if the sox wanted Pierre, I'm sure one of those two would be the asking price for him]. With Chris Young coming on, one of those could be moved
-
JUAN PIERRE
I have to put this out there--would you be willing to trade Brian Anderson as part of a deal to get Pierre? Because from the looks of it, the marlins will be looking for someone to play LF and Cf to start in 2006. If I were the Marlins, I'd want an Ofer in return

So who is next?
QUOTE(SSH2005 @ Nov 24, 2005 -> 11:54 AM) To quote Hawk, "where would he play?" We already have Iguchi at second base and Thome will likely be our DH. Unless you think Konerko won't re-sign, Thome will be our first baseman, and you want Castillo to play second base with Iguchi at DH. See my thread on 'Could Iguchi be traded?'
