QUOTE(AddisonStSox @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 03:20 PM) Harris needs to stay with the Sox, no questions asked. Yes--I said it. I'm sitcking with sending down Walker for Gload and Timo for El Duque straight up. Except Timo doesn't have any options left, and he'd become DFA. Willie does have an option left. Unless the Sox got a backup OFer who could play avg. to above avg. defense and spot start, Timo will be around.
  2. QUOTE(RockRaines @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 03:19 PM) Andy Marte is supposed to be ready to come up, they just dont have a place to put him. So Chipper would move to LF [provided his legs are healthy] and Marte slide in at 3b? Brian Jordan shouldn't be starting in the OF for a decent team. Hence the need for Jones in RF. If ATL traded Langerhans, they should throw in some cash with Jones
  3. QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 03:06 PM) Atl is suppose to be really high on Ryan Langerhans, I can't see them dealing him. ATl does have Jeff Francouer [sp?] in AA doing well
  4. QUOTE(EvilJester99 @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 03:06 PM) Atl is suppose to be really high on Ryan Langerhans, I can't see them dealing him. I thought ATL had another good OFer near the bigs [or am I thinking 3bman Marte?]
  5. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 03:05 PM) Maybe the Twins would take back Danny Kolb possibly, Atlanta have soured on him pretty quick. Jackass Jones really isn't good enough to keep his head above water as an everyday starting outfielder. Kolb makes more than minimum wage and his control sucks. Not a good fit for the twins. Jones has plummeted to a .270 avg and a .370 obp, after tearing it up earlier in the yr. Now sounds like the time to trade him and put Ford in RF.
  6. Nobody on the Braves current roster seems like a deent fit for ATL. Unless its OFer Ryan Langerhans. Maybe some AAA depth from ATL in the IF, seeing how the Twins IF seems to be its weakest area.
  7. *The Atlanta Braves need an outfielder, and Braves superscout Jim Fregosi was at the Metrodome for Tuesday night's Twins-Indians game. Twins general manager Terry Ryan declined comment on the possibility of a deal. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------- I could see the Twins trading Jacque Jones, now that he's cooled off. I wonder what the Twins would add from the Braves? Ideas? Thoughts?
  8. QUOTE(Jordan4life_2005 @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 06:07 AM) Very good to see. I hope his velocity gets back up. So he's topping out at 87? Malone said at the beginning of the yr he was topping out at 87. He said the MPH was going up each time out, nearing where he was [95].

QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 03:13 AM) Oh it's time alright. Please don't deal him Kenny. Gio is/ should be an untouchable. Can't see a deal that would make him trade bait.
  10. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 12:27 PM) I think it's more likely Seattle would deal Ron Villione before Eddie Guardado FWIW. They do have 4 lefties in their pen, or they did about a month ago (don't know if they still do). Villone is a guy who goes under the radar. Not sure what he throws, etc. But if he has good control and eats up LH hitters, why not? Eddie did get his team option declined this yr. If they have cheaper options, and can get good talent they should deal him
  11. Guardado would have to be considered, esp. with his great control. With both sox lefties Marte and Cotts being erratic at times, he could look nice on the south side [though I don't know what Sea. would want--maybe a young SP [sean Tracey] and bullpen help [Munoz /Diaz/ Baj] a replacement for Bret Boone--[Willie Harris]

Here's my take on some of the possibilities: *The sox prob. won't mess with their defense, while trying to add some consistent offense [that would mean Willie and Crede wouldn't be traded this year--esp. as they are cheap. Even if Willie went down to AAA, he'd be great insurance in case Iguchi got hurt] *Phil. will probably try to add to their bullpen now. But Polanco might not give the sox that much of a different look. [Though if they are far out come the deadline, a guy like Billy Wagner would look great on the Sox--few other teams leading their divisions are looking for a closer, so the Sox,with KW's willingness to deal, should offer a decent package for a rent a player] *The pirates view Mackowiak as a UTL guy, who has been given chances to play regularly w/o much success. Mackowiak would be a nice versatile pick up [probably the best guy out there for the sox would could give them a power LH bat and play the IF and OF, taking only 1 roster spot where he could take over Timo's and Willie's spots], who could give Crede, Iguchi, Rowand and Dye a day off. But hes' not an everyday player. Crede for him straight up would be a steal for Pitt. Pitt. would probably want some guys who can play this yr. And they'd prob. wait until Mackowiak cools down and they drop further under .500 before they make a deal *The sox will look to add a rock solid lefty for the bullpen--closer to the deadline--with good to great control [Marte is too wild, and Cotts is a little inexperienced]

QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Jun 1, 2005 -> 07:08 AM) They would be much happier with a WIllie for Polanco trade straight up. Though I don't know why we would want to do that. The Phils have a LH hitting 2b man in Chase Utley
  14. beck72 replied to Chisoxfn's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I think Walker and Willie will be sent down. [Though I don't discount Viz or Shingo getting some "DL"/ AAA time]
  15. QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 30, 2005 -> 07:15 PM) Exactly what I was thinking about Willie. Hell, throw in Borchard and a decent prospect (since I don't consider Borchard a decent prospect ). The Sox SS in AA, Andy/ Angel Gonzalez may be a decent fit for them, esp with Valido coming on strong in high A [roids notwithstanding]. It wouldn't take much to strike a deal with Pitt, if the Sox wanted Mack.
  16. QUOTE(Jabroni @ May 30, 2005 -> 06:32 PM) I would trade Willie Harris and prospect(s) for Mackowiak because he can play 2B, 3B, LF, CF, and RF. He could start at 3rd base in place of Cruddy, he could play some 2nd base to give Iguchi a day off, and he could play RF in place of Dye against righties. Mackowiak can hit and run. He would be the perfect utility man for us to add. I pray that Kenny is looking at him. The pirates are looking to have Freddy Sanchez play some SS, with Wilson struggling. With Bobby Hill and Sanchez able to play at least another position besides 2b, they may want a leadoff type hitter in Willie. Though they could also use a big bat. Though they need another 3bman besides Wigginton, I wouldn't trade Crede straight up for Mackowiak. He seems like a utility guy who could play 4 times a week, not an everyday player A bonus, he'd make Timo expendable as well
  17. QUOTE(Chisoxfn @ May 30, 2005 -> 06:13 PM) Can Mackoviak play a decent 3rd? If he can I agree that he'd be a nice pickup. That being said I don't know if he'd cost much in terms of prospects. Personally I wouldn't mind picking up Mackoviak and Lawton. Of course the Sox have Jermaine Dye and well its not an option because of that. If the Sox got a guy like Mackowiak, they wouldn't have to trade Crede. Even if Mackowiak was a lesser 3b man [his numbers don't look too bad there], Crede could always come in as a defensive replacement. Joe could also hit vs LHP, as his numbers are stronger there. Lawton, though, is getting ripped by the Pitt fans over on their mlb board, as a slug defensively [which is his rep], and only out for his offense. While his bat looks good, he doesn't fit the style of the current sox. Mackowiak seems like a fit
  18. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ May 30, 2005 -> 03:51 PM) I think both are actually options, I'd prefer Baj get a chance first just because I really think Jenks has a chance to be special in the closers role but a few bad outings can go along way in messing up his head and we don't need that again. The thing is, we have cliff, dustin and damaso for the 7th inning on, we just need someone to step up and add some depth to most likely take over for Viz if he continues to struggle. I too think they are options. At least until the sox can make a trade closer to the trade deadline. [if the sox can swing a deal before then, so much the better]
  19. The sox are 3rd in the AL in runs vs LHP, with splits of .299/.362/.488 in 418 ab's. Though a bigger concern is them being 11th vs RHP, with splits of .235/.302/.367 in 1227 ab's. Seeing how the sox will hit off mostly RHP's, they need to improve a lot in this dept. Frank's return may help a bit, as may Gload's. Yet with guys like Crede, Uribe, Everett--CArl's .189 avg vs. RHP is way off his career avgs--showing great differences in their splits, and bench guys Harris [.250] Ozuna [.154] and Timo [.195] almost worthless vs RHP, the sox could use some help from the Left side. If the sox don't improve their numbers vs RHP by the deadline, a deal of some sort will have to be made for a guy who can be a regular in the lineup. A few guys who have been mentioned who could help--Mackowiak [hitting very well vs RHP, .345 with over a .400 obp and good slg. %] Chavez [slow this yr, but good splits vs RHP in the past; but a monstrous contract]; Any other LH bats [or switch hitters who hit well vs LHP] who could see some regular playing time come the deadline?
  20. I'd be more inclined to deal Vizcaino rather than Shingo. Though the sox brain trust has to be convinced Luis won't be able to get his act together this year. At least Shingo can make a stint in the minors to get back on track.
  21. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ May 30, 2005 -> 03:29 AM) I think those stats are starting to look like a good reason to consider giving Baj another shot within the next few weeks, especially if a spot opens up anywhere due to injury. A bullpen guy [shingo or Viz] going down to "injury" is very likely. A stint on the 15 day DL should bring Baj up
  22. beck72 replied to CWSOX45's topic in Pale Hose Talk
The biggest reason I could see in getting a bat like Eric Chavez: the Sox are hitting .299/.362/.488 vs LHP, 3rd in the league; and .235/.300/.366 vs RHP, 12th in the league. Someone who can hit for power and avg from the left side, and who can play above avg defense. Chavez fits. I don't know if Huff's defense is good enough, esp at 3B where he'd best fit for the sox.
  23. If this is his first crack at the closer role [which I think it is] it's amazing how well he's taken to it. Jenks [and the sox] may have found a key man for their bullpen for next yr, if not a late call up this yr
  24. QUOTE(Finkelstein @ May 27, 2005 -> 02:22 PM) Rowand .262 Konerko .237 Everett .232 Dye .212 Crede .234 Uribe .237 The Sox need these guys to hit near their career avgs [which they probably will], the starting pitching to not drop off that much, and the bullpen to throw strikes. Frank coming back should help the other hitters. He doesn't have to "carry" the load. Just be a dangerous hitter like he was in 2004
  25. QUOTE(Steff @ May 26, 2005 -> 02:42 PM) Once again.. there was a NEED at the time. There is no NEED at this time. :banghead There is a need for bullpen guys [one, or two] who have better control. The Sox bullpen walks far too many guys. Right now only Hermanson and Politte have good K: BB rates. BMac won't be that guy from what Ozzie has said. But the need is still there. Whether the current guys come around, that may be. Viz will be better, and so should Shingo. But if things stay as they are, I'd expect a trade by the deadline to improve the pen. The walks from the bullpen haven't hurt the sox that much. But that is bound to change.
