White Sox Sign RP Joe Kelly (2yrs with a club option; $17m)
Right, thanks. Think that was one of those Buddy Bell specials.

On the plus side, he should be better than Kelvin Herrera... Tying to remember another former Royals' Latin starter (somewhere around 2014-2016) we took a flier on coming back from injury and was pretty much hot garbage. He threw hard but straight...unfortunately the ball went back in the other direction at an even higher rate of velocity. Didn't last long, maybe 5-6 starts.

Offseason Part 2 - Lets the Rumors & Action Begin
Let's count how many times we hear long Covid and reggaeton videos this year. Did he make another? Win a Latin Grammy? I like his talent...but we will see how much the Sox really value him when the rubber hits the road and he starts to lose his "value added" status. Personally, would take Byron Buxton over him if they both were playing on that lower-risk new deal with the Twins.

Sox Sign Vince Velasquez
Don't forget they're also bringing former first rounder Brandon Finnegan into camp. Heck, we just signed a former #10 in the first round, OF Cornelius Randolph.

At least it was the Twins and not Tigers/Royals/Indians getting Sonny Gray...

Moncada's trade value is really going to hit a wall unless he looks like his 2019 version approaching a $25 million salary.

Sometimes I wish we had the same go for broke mentality as the Padres in the face of the Dodgers’ onslaught. Sure, it backfired last year, but eventually the LA division dominance will come to an abrupt halt, especially carrying Bauer on the active roster. Our modus operandi is more about finishing out in front of the AL Central rather than really going for the jugular. We have a number of things that could go wrong for a supposed #2 ranked team in all of MLB.

If we went back to 2016 and envisioned that Grandal, Hendriks and Lynn were going to be the biggest adds…not sure how many would have gone for that. We lost out on Machado and the only thing that saved the Sox viability as a perennial WS-contender was basically Jose Abreu and Paddy recruiting Luis Robert away from the Cardinals.

Sox sign 2B Josh Harrison (1 yr, 5.5M; club option; 1.5M buyout)
Jettisoning Jimenez at 60-75 cents of the dollar whole soon paying Moncada $25 million seems about as anti-Rays as it possibly gets. Losing Madrigal and Rodon with almost nothing in return was bad enough.

KW has always had a keen eye for talent, same with Paddy. To me, the best quality or characteristic of a modern GM should never be contract extensions…because that’s something every team outside the top 6-8 payrolls needs in order to survive.

Bassitt To The Mets
That sounds eerily reminiscent of an ill-fated 2016 trade. The only difference is we're expected to at least advance out of the divisional round this time...as opposed to a 3-5% shot at the post-season.

The problem is almost none of them can be counted on to put up a 2.5-3.0 fWAR season...it's a constant game of musical chairs trying to hit on a lottery ticket from year to year, like trying Mazara in RF. Of we could just produce our own solid utility and bullpen guys...we would have been able to save a ton of money that could have been allocated elsewhere.

I miss Ray Durham.

Vera is much more valuable to the White Sox at this point. He's the one pitcher I would be quite reluctant to trade, with how much older our team has already gotten the last twelve months.

White Sox Sign RP Joe Kelly (2yrs with a club option; $17m)
Someone like Eddie Rosario would be the typical Sox add if Jon Jay's unavailable, haha...already familiar with the AL Central and more than capable of playing below average corner defense. Almost would have preferred Andrelton Simmons at 2B for $1.5 million less. At least you know you will get solid defense out of him.

Didn't Kim already go back to Korea?

Also signals they might be more willing to invest time in grooming Crochet as a spot starter/swingman this year…building up innings for 2023.

The thread comparing Madrigal vs. Harrison vs. Hernandez will be a source of amusement. Crap shoot. And let’s put to bed the idea that 2B are a dime a dozen. Difference-making 3+ fWAR players are at this spot.

If the Jays can still spend like drunken sailors after playing large chunks of last season in Dunedin...

Except other than Story moving off his position, there's no real difference maker at second. Which is why you see all these trade suggestions for Ketel Marte...

Offseason Part 2 - Lets the Rumors & Action Begin
Said the fanbases in 29 MLB markets every offseason...well, maybe not LA, where it's all about efficiency of resource allocation.
- Rodon to SF, 2 years, $44 million (opt out after year 1)

Right. You win the WS with that combo, they deal Kimbrel to open up payroll and nobody bats an eye. By the looks of it, the Braves might even be willing to move on from Freddie Freeman despite $100 million in profits.

Why would they do anything else but undersell the possibility of big moves the fans are clamoring for? Because the opposite approach won't exactly go over well with the Sox fanbase.
