  1. This is the other "negative" factor about Sox fans not deserting the ship in droves the last two seasons, and actually increasing their numbers (slightly) for 2019. We heard for years and years how the White Sox fans were not supporting ownership enough to justify their putting Top 8-12 payrolls on the field. Well, the fans have been ESPECIALLY resilient the last 2-3 seasons and they were rewarded with an 8% season ticket increase (when you factor in the Field of Dreams Game coming off the schedule of 81 home games). It's not so difficult to imagine them ONLY spending an additional $20-30 million this offseason, because they're incredibly profitable as currently constructed, payroll-wise. The only way we'll know they're actually serious is when they 1) announce an extension with Robert, Moncada or Giolito or 2) sign at least 2 FA's for more than $75 million per year, or Cole/Rendon for $150+ million per year. (I guess you could lump in adding JD Martinez or Grandal there, whatever the final contract turns out to be.)
  2. Watched the replay. Jimenez should be playing a bit shallower on Smith, no way he doesn’t catch that ball if he commits right off the bat. Playing too hesitantly for that situation.
  3. Of course. At least the Bears’ result is distracting from this debacle.
  4. Is this Osich’s first successful hold of the season? Lewis the anti-Collins his first 40 or so at-bats. Who would we rather have now?
  5. Why why why? Just give Cordell a shot if Palka and Yolmer are behind them. Yolmer could have gotten fifty passes at that fastball and not done anything with it. And, has a non-injured player ever gone from 27 to 0 homers?
  6. “Only” $93 million for years 33-36. I think we’ve seen how this plays out often enough, especially for a CFer who’s more exposed to injury, and coming over from the NL and then the Coors Factor as well. He’s had a very solid season this year, but how long will it last?
  7. Isn’t this supposed to be Hahn’s singular area of obvious expertise as a GM, contract extensions for Sale, Q, Eaton and Anderson?
  8. That’s why the Astros manager is as good as he is now...initial failures.
  9. But no consensus on what the Mets are going to ask in return for him...in their situation, no rush to trade him at his floor value.

  11. Apples and oranges having the Dodgers in the same division. They’re basically even (organizationally) right now, because they have the prospect depth remaining to get nearly anyone whereas the White Sox have the financial flexibility...but the Wild Card is the only realistic possibility for 2020 and probably 2021 as well.
  12. Supply and demand, labour of love, etc. It's like any job related to sports (broadcasting would be similar, although the education requirements are lesser), at the very highest levels, where you're differentiating yourself and in the Top 5-10 in the industry, you can make a ton of money.

  14. https://sports.yahoo.com/heres-white-sox-luis-robert-004635095.html "Luis had a tremendous year. Playing at three levels, and he didn't slow down. With every challenge we gave him, he seemed to perform even better," Getz said Tuesday. "There's some wow in the numbers, but you dive in a little bit deeper, there's some things he does still need to refine. "He's such an aggressive athlete, which works in his favor, but when it comes to making decisions at the plate, he's going to have to refine that a bit. Because we know when you get up here that pitchers are going to attack you a little bit different and see if you'll chase pitches out of the zone or swing at pitches that you prefer not to. "He's a young player who can square up a lot of different types of pitches and drive it a long way, so I certainly get the excitement when he walks to the box. But it's about putting together a professional at-bat, which we feel like he's getting closer to.” Getz on Madrigal "He's got elite batted-ball skills. We knew that going in. He's been able to continue to do that," Getz said about the 2018 first-round pick. "It's really about continuing and being consistent with the approach. There are times where pitchers are going to challenge you a certain way. You don't want to take the bait. "He goes up there, because he can hit so many different types of pitches, sometimes he can get overly aggressive. He knows what his bread and butter is, and he needs to stick to that and be disciplined. He's starting to understand that himself. He's positioned himself pretty well to come up here and be successful right out of the gate."
  15. 3B-1290, SS-65, DH-34, 1B-4 Those were his career numbers before this season. So even if he has graded out okay at less than 50 games there for MIL this season, he's going to be relegated to DH duties with the White Sox due to the presence of Madrigal and Moncada. He would be much better than Abreu at 1B, but we all know that story. So it all comes down to whether he'd be willing to DH (mostly) on a non-contending team, barring some huge/unexpected moves in free agency.
  16. He’s getting older and that position is far too demanding from a physical standpoint...he’s already struggling with injuries this current season, I don’t see why you would want him to break down in the second half.
  17. Moustakas shouldn’t be playing 2B in any situation other than an emergency. Leury or Mendick should be the primary backups.
  18. https://sports.yahoo.com/next-red-sox-general-manager-045022362.html Lots of names here the White Sox SHOULD be interested in but won’t be.
  19. They’ve tried to do this every season since 2005 ended with a WS trophy. Not working. Change the tier they’re looking at, or change the evaluators.
  20. Severe 5.9 fWAR falloff to 3.1, just turned 32. Two years ago, was at 3.8...but also mixed in a 2.3 season (with Detroit), which has been his floor since leaving the Astros. Seems to be the exactly the kind of risky move the franchise hasn’t taken since Adam Dunn. Of course, this also keeps Abreu at 1B for at least the 2020 season, while they’re waiting on Vaughn. Probably puts them at the mid to high 70’s in wins if Kopech and Cease take major steps forward. Still need at least one more starting pitcher, another bat and one high quality right handed reliever to squint and think they’re an 81-85 win team. Would be the end of Collins, basically.

  22. How much do we blame on DD, how much on Ilitch's free spending ways? In reality, the Tigers were a relevant team as long as they had a motivated Verlander...the trade to Houston and especially the owner's death really killed that franchise, moreso than DD. I mean, he kept Detroit in the forefront of the AL for nearly a decade, including two World Series appearances and countless trips to the playoffs. Let's see what they get out of Franklin Perez, Jake Rogers and Daz Cameron as well.
  23. So we're saying it wouldn't be worth another World Series trophy if we were to be in the same position as Detroit and Boston today? Because with Mize and another overall #1 pick next season, the Tigers' situation is going to improve appreciably. And, for all we know, the Cabrera contract was just as much Ilitch as DD.
