So who's the next manager?
Still younger than next US president, a slightly more stressful position...

Garver, sure. Sano has always had the potential to be the next David Ortiz.

That was the kind of the whole point of adding hitters like Grandal and Madrigal, even Encarnacion, to a lesser extent (although he's more of a classic, fastball-hunting high strikeout feast or famine hitter except when he's completely locked in on one of his 7-10 day patented tears that can carry a team.) And, conversely, the biggest strike against adding a similar type of "all or nothing" guy in Mazara, who puts together lots of empty at-bats.

Well, missing Hill and Odorrizi doesn't help very much.

The poster or the 1972 slugger with the cigarette in his mouth?

They're sliders mostly just off the plate and low. The book on him was bust him in the hands (Keith Law theory) and he won't be able to take advantage of massive power/leverage and get extended and out over the plate, driving the ball to CF and RCF. It turns out that the slider and fastball just above the top of the zone, at least so far, have been the two biggest weaknesses. All that said, he's got a mid 800's OPS still, it's not as if he's scuffling along like Brian Anderson in 2006 in the 500's and low 600's, or Adam Engel for most of his career. He's shown the ability to take more walks than everyone projected, and he's certainly going to have to make adjustments. One major positive is that he has been (sometimes) cutting down on his swing with two strikes, working back into the count if behind, and fouling off some pitches in those situations. So I'm going to choose to read that development positively. When we start facing "inferior" pitching, he'll catch up again and pretty quickly, IMO.

So who's the next manager?
2012 he was fine...the whole team, with 12 rookies, until collapsing down the stretch, something like a 4-11 finish. Defense was MUCH better than the 2011 Ozzie FInale Year. Dunn recovered from his funk, somewhat. If Moncada's going to keep "fake bunting" every at-bat, then Omar Vizquel would have been perfect.

Considering they're facing the likely Cy Young winner tomorrow night, that game had added importance. But yeah, if they're going to hit 0.050-0.075 all season with RISP, they're not going to be going anywhere, let alone the playoffs.

COVID-19/Coronavirus thread
Not only that, but how we educate, in general...online vs. in-person, access to technology, equalizing opportunity of access, future roles of teachers (can make more money if you're a great teacher reaching hundreds if not thousands online simultaneously). Educating for "value added" white collar jobs, or refocusing on practical things (in my time, shop/industrial, plumbling, carpentry, the trades, electrical, HVAC, etc.) 25% of the former economy is essentially going to be wiped out. Then there's renewed US focus on maths/science/STEM, AI, AR, VR, AR and IoT, as well as coding/programming. Bill Gates, the tech billionaire philanthropist who is helping to fund vaccine research for a number of deadly illnesses including COVID-19, is feeling optimistic about COVID-19 treatments and vaccines. Thanks to this work, he thinks the pandemic should be under control by the end of 2021 for the world's richest nations and by 2022 for the developing world, he told Wired in an interview. While that represents record-speed scientific progress, it may be disappointing to think about living in a pandemic for another year or longer. Meanwhile, Gates warns people not to let their guards down because he thinks COVID-19 could surge again in the fall. https://www.businessinsider.com/bill-gates-thinks-pandemic-could-over-at-the-end-of-2021-2020-8

Ozzie isn't very good on the Pre/Post-Game
Seems pretty much only 1-2 people have come out here on the side of Rongey. A real shocker, that is. Not likeable. If you're going to be unlikeable, you have to bring something unique/authentic/interesting to the discussion, at least. Sports are supposed to be fun, not blood sport or mockery of people who don't have the opportunity to learn everything about the team from being around the players and coaches 24 hours a day.

So who's the next manager?
Or Tony LaRussa, haha. Somehow, all the HoF managers/coaches are banished.

Against one of the teams in your own division, competing for a playoff spot, at home. The way the CLE offense was going until Anderson was inserted into the game, it was quite possible CLE was going to be shut down again. They had gone something like 25 consecutive innings without scoring off Sox pitching, for what it's worth. Could easily have been White Sox at +3 and Indians at E, instead of White Sox at +1 and Indians at +2. Two game swing.

Sense of immediacy, zero. Anderson’s not a prospect. We cannot afford to waste opportunities at key wins developing AAAA pitchers who are not even a part of the future...while demoralizing the entire team in the process. It’s exactly the type of comment a minor league manager would make to the GM. Trust what your eyes are seeing, not written reports.

Confident. Was getting the ball and throwing it. Not thinking too much. Not a great amount of movement on his pitches, but velocity was overwhelming. Slider was a bit flat and would be better at 85-87 than 88-89. Change-up showed potential. Grandal philosophy seemed to be frame the middle of the plate and just let him throw it to the center and see what happens. Definitely would have been a helluva better option than Drew Anderson out there.

I think we managed to jinx both the White Sox and Tiger Woods at the beginning of this Game Thread. UGLY UGLY days for both.

What I don't like is Bieber coming off a loss in his last start. I think he only gave up 2 runs while CLE was getting shut down, but you can't expect him to have two consecutive losses very often in a season.

Now Leury hurt his foot and strained his back. Seems he's okay. Guess we can blame this one on the Bossard family, lol.

Without Ohtani able to be an ace as a pitcher, just don't see them having a big enough offense. Adell would have to start carrying the team along with Trout as a rookie.

3-6 against MIN/CLE can easily be offset by KCR/DET/PITT. But they're really going to have to win at least 2 out of 6 against a suddenly revitalized Cubs' team.

Hit it off the end of the bat. At least had the right idea, going up the middle or opposite direction.

Torkelson, Manning, Mize and Riley Greene are going to be pretty awesome. Royals, it remains to be seen, their young position prospects are lacking, pitching could be okay.

About as strong a big league debut as you could possibly ask for. Ball on Moncada took a bad hop and came up on him, but at least ONE positive/encouraging thing came out of today. Well, two, if you count Foster continuing to impress on the bump.

Grandal "defense." Lindor swim slide turned the whole game around with the gator arm to deke Mendick.
