Colome remains with White Sox, who always had ample interest in him
caulfield12 replied to Sockin's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Wait 'til next year...then the trade value of Colome will still be there, just like with Quintana (except we were incredibly fortunate Epstein got desperate, his performance fell off enough that the first 2-3 months of 2017 were spent constantly worrying about his eroding trade value). It worked out that time, but it usually doesn't. Anyone want to post early odds on Colome repeating his first 100 game performance in 2019 over the next 162 games? -

That would be the fans in Miami. After the Yelich/Ozuna/Realmuto/Gordon trades, they don't even care anymore...which seems much worse than what's currently going on with the White Sox fanbase. At least love is the opposite side of hate, instead of apathy. -

Which indicates that if he's already fairly-valued in terms of his salary, another year of control wasn't a huge factor here. The problem is that the top teams in baseball would never view him as THE closer they could actually count on in the playoffs...or someone would have paid the asking price above a Tilson/Cordell level. -
Sox Trade Nate Jones/INTL Slot to TEX for 2 Minor Leaguers

This write-up from Ben Badler is hilarious for TWO REASONS.... The Rangers traded for $1 million of international bonus pool money today to be able to finalize their signing of Bayron Lora, a 16-year-old outfielder with huge power from the Dominican Republic. Lora has been playing for the Rangers' team in the Tricky League, an informal league in the Dominican Republic for recent July 2 signings, with clubs supplementing their rosters with unsigned amateur players as well. He homered yesterday, his third home run of the Tricky League, which opened two weeks ago. Lora will add to an international signing class that also includes shortstops Maximo Acosta from Venezuela and Zion Bannister from the Bahamas. WHITE SOX ACQUIRE Joe Jarneski, RHP Age: 19 Ray Castro, RHP Age: 22 Jarneski and Castro aren't prospects, so it looks like the White Sox are just moving Jones' contract to save money. My comment: I think this is the first time I've ever seen BA do a trade write-up without any information...and "where's OUR TRICKY League team, Hahn?" -

The bottom line is that rebuilding teams should be taking advantage of EVERY opportunity that presents itself. We shouldn't be more concerned with saving money or helping out other GM's. It's that same mentality that led to us being satisfied with signing Luis Robert and not going on to spend another $25-30 million to have a superclass. Instead we spend that exact same amount on Nova, Herrera, Jay, Santana and Alonso. -

And if nobody acquired Alonso (the White Sox were probably the only ones interested after his second half)...they would have released Alonso to make way for Reyes? -

Yes, from Venezuela...not the Dominican. I just don't understand why we can't find our OWN players from the Dominican Republic, it's not like every single kid under age 16 doesn't want to play professional baseball... -

DUH!!! That's all we do, HELP other teams. By taking on Alonso's salary, we've now opened a spot for Franmil Reyes to beat up on us for the next five years. By providing them the money (the Rangers), they get to sign their targeted players and we spent it writing insurance checks for Burger and all of our pitching prospects. WHEN DO WE ACQUIRE INTL BONUS POOL MONEY so we can actually sign someone? It's like...yay! we signed Robert, it looks like he's the coup of the decade, so we can go back to business as usual. -

Okay, here's a question. What have we received in terms of all that supposed investment into the Domican Republic? How the heck can Jesus Pena be the last player to come out of there....is the Ghost/Shadow of Dave Wilder THAT long? -

Sure it does, one more potential multiple tool player we don't have for our outfield... Why does it seem the SAME organizations year after year (Dodgers, Braves, Padres, Rangers, etc.) always have the connections to these players that we don't despite Paddy, who we keep hearing is the best in the business...? -

Of course, he will inevitably go on to become the next Trout/Tatis...at least with Bush last year, there was a narrative that we'd produced this gem out of nowhere that would show how brilliant the scouting department was at their jobs. Just surprised Bell or Jordan isn't part of his name. -
http://www.milb.com/player/index.jsp?sid=milb&player_id=668709#/career/R/hitting/2019/ALL JJ Bleday was the first one in the class up to an advanced A league...struggling so far in his first 11 games. At any rate, Vaught will start next season at Winston-Salem and be a fast mover, similar to Madrigal. Can't imagine they'd push him into the Arizona Fall League, but that could change if he lights up the stat sheet over the next month.

Trevor Bauer traded to Reds - Puig to Indians

WHAT THEY’RE SAYING ESPN’s Keith Law: “The San Diego Padres look like the biggest winners here, although that’s assuming that Taylor Trammell is the player we saw the last two years and not the guy who has had a disappointing season as a 21-year-old in Double-A this year. … Trammell is a four-tool guy, lacking the arm for anywhere but left field, but shows good bat control, plus speed , potentially plus range in left, and projected above-average power.” Baseball America: Trammell “has continued to show the ability to control the strike zone and get on base, but has struggled to make much impact at the plate in his first taste of the upper levels. Still, scouts see above-average raw power and above-average footspeed, which gives them hope that he could blossom into the coveted power-speed prospect. He’s made strides this season in left field but is not an average defender and would need to play center field if he doesn’t develop the power needed to profile in a corner-outfield role. Still, he was one of the youngest players in the Double-A Southern League, so there’s still plenty of time for him to develop.” The Ringer: “San Diego also had so many outfielders and so many pitching prospects that it evidently felt like it could sacrifice one member from each pool to try to fix Trammell’s swing, and thus, like Cleveland, use a position of strength to address a position of weakness. The only difference is that Cleveland made the trade for the next three months; San Diego, with Trammell still in Double-A, made the trade with the next three years and more in mind as it builds its next contending roster.” The Athletic’s Jim Bowden: “Padres GM A.J. Preller continues to follow his blueprint of always trading for quality over quantity and lands the best overall prospect in the deal in Trammell. The Padres love his tools, his ability to get on base and his potential to be an exciting table-setter and long-term answer in center field. This trade follows the same philosophy Preller used when he acquired Fernando Tatis Jr. from the White Sox and Chris Paddack from the Marlins for veteran reliever Fernando Rodney.” https://www.sandiegouniontribune.com/sports/padres/story/2019-07-31/padres-reds-indians-trade-taylor-trammell-franmil-reyes-logan-allen -

Except Allard would be our 3rd/4th starter right now...Medieros is buried behind 5-7 pitchers on the depth chart, still. -

He catches the balls he can get to...sure...but his range is like Palka’s and he doesn’t have the arm for RF. He’s like a statue out there. If they really valued him that highly, they would have traded Renfroe at peak value. -

On paper, it makes sense because Bauer is half the pitcher he was last season in terms of fWAR, 2.7 to 5.8. That said, I would be shocked if he wasn’t at least a 3-5 fWAR pitcher in the NL. Change of scenery will do him wonders. At their peaks, Puig and Reyes will contribute around 2 each. Indians still better hope Carrasco and Kluber return to form or they will be knocked out early from the playoffs. Of course, it’s also about saving $18-20 million on Bauer next year in arbitration. And another example of how the Alonso trade came back to bite us...as now they have someone cheap/cost controlled at DH for another half decade. https://www.theringer.com/mlb/2019/7/31/20748126/yasiel-puig-trevor-bauer-trade-cleveland-indians-cincinnati-reds-franmil-reyes -

Wonderful contribution...and lol at anyone who thinks Reyes doesn’t give up as many runs defensively in RF as he puts on the board offensively. Plus, even Allard has a brighter future than Logan Allen. -

That decision in the 8th, with Abreu scuffling, makes even less sense now because Goins was up next instead of Moncada...unless Goins is now our most trustworthy “clutch” hitter and Renteria overlooked the GIDP possibility likelihood staring him right in the face. -

16 remaining...guess we can see how Puig does against the AL Central when he’s not being held back by teammates from a fight. jimenez with the Golden Sombrero...Moncada with another ouchie, this game sucks...except for submarining Diaz’s trade value I guess. -

Fulmer warming, lol. Marianne Williamson, arguably, could do a better job managing this team with her “physic powers” than Renteria.
