  1. Self-inflicted wounds. Not going to get THAT upset, but eminently avoidable nonetheless.
  2. Like punting at that point on Delmonico...
  3. Kevin Gausman is hitting 100 today against LAD. Bauer, Stroman, whoever it is, we need another pitcher for next year with Lopech’s future ruddled with uncertainty. Gausman would be a poor man’s Wheeler without the extreme contract risk.
  4. Luplow was something like 0/20 coming into game, Taylor a catcher best known for defense (not really known at all compared to the likes of Gomes and R. Perez) and DeShields just MEH as a hitter. Context matters.
  5. Comments about taking him #1 overall will remain associated for a long time with Hostetler...
  6. Bumgarner is absolute toast. Bullet dodged. Average FB velo down about 4 mph. Someone just homered for his 8th of the year (and 4th of series) against him and shimmied across the dugout, playfully ignored by teammates with the silent treatment. Bumgarner will be royally pissed LF didn’t even bother to turn around.
  7. MLB Pipeline has already ranked Basabe as the 18th-best prospect in San Francisco’s farm system, with a scouting report noting that he “has the tools to be a worthwhile fourth outfielder,” even if his hitting is still a question mark. Basabe has batted .248/.345/.392 across 2570 PA in the minors (none above the Double-A level), and he has shown a lot of swing-and-miss in his approach at the plate. Luis Basabe, a 23-year-old Venezuela native ranked as the No. 11 prospect in the White Sox farm system by MLB.com, is headed to San Francisco in exchange for cash considerations. “I think this is what makes Farhan and Scott so good at what they do,” manager Gabe Kapler said. “To be able to bring in a guy who slots immediately into our top prospects list without giving up too much in return. Basabe is tooled up. This is a guy with arm strength and speed.” The White Sox designated Basabe for assignment earlier this week. To clear a space on the 40-man roster for Basabe, the Giants placed right-handed pitcher Jordan Humphreys on the restricted list for what Kapler termed, “family reasons.” Humphreys was acquired last Sunday in a deal with the Mets that sent outfielder Billy Hamilton to New York. Basabe has never played above Double-A, but the former White Sox prospect has a long track record in the minors of playing an above-average center field and drawing a considerable amount of walks. “A real ceiling, so he’s an exciting add to our system,” Kapler said. A career .248 hitter with a .737 OPS in seven minor league seasons, Basabe has struggled at the plate for much of his professional career but has demonstrated tools that lead some industry analysts to believe he could hit 15-to-20 home runs per year when he does reach the majors. https://www.mercurynews.com/2020/08/09/sf-giants-acquire-outfielder-in-trade-with-chicago-white-sox/
  8. Congrats to Eddy Alvarez of the Marlins. First big league knock off the best in baseball, Jacob de Grom. Smashed a 3-2 fastball to the opposite field on the ground, snared by Davis of the Mets to prevent his first RBI. Couldn’t get up and make the throw, had to eat it. Now 1/10.
  9. Only during the heart of a pandemic....could such an idea be snuck through without anyone batting an eye, Washington (CNN). White House aides reached out to South Dakota Gov. Kristi Noem last year about the process of adding additional presidents to Mount Rushmore, the New York Times reported. According to a person familiar who spoke with the Times, Noem then greeted Trump when he arrived in the state for his July Fourth celebrations at the monument with a four-foot replica of Mount Rushmore that included his face. Noem has noted before Trump's "dream" to have his face on Mount Rushmore, the Coolidge-era sculpture that features the 60-foot-tall faces of Presidents George Washington, Thomas Jefferson, Abraham Lincoln and Theodore Roosevelt. According to a 2018 interview with Noem, the two struck up a conversation about the sculpture in the Oval Office during their first meeting, where she initially thought he was joking. "I started laughing," she said. "He wasn't laughing, so he was totally serious." "He said, 'Kristi, come on over here. Shake my hand, and so I shook his hand, and I said, 'Mr. President, you should come to South Dakota sometime. We have Mount Rushmore.' And he goes, 'Do you know it's my dream to have my face on Mount Rushmore?'" Trump also toyed with the idea of adding himself to Mount Rushmore in 2017 at a campaign rally in Youngstown, Ohio. And speaking of that beloved state of South Dakota...
  10. No, not serious. He dud something last year (prioritizing winning or bunting over development) that really pissed someone off. Maybe still starting Robert in a game with treacherous field conditions due to weather...who knows.
  11. Gall, Gauls, Visigoths, it was total BS. looking at their recent pitching looks, and respective performances, there were at least 5-6 better options in the third and certainly against their four best hitters in the top of the 4th. Now we can argue Mendick getting deked and Grandal aided and abetted the meltdown, but Anderson was never any good in the first place. I can’t remember a singke spring game the last two years where he was unscored upon.
  12. Victor Diaz is already out of the organization, yes? And then there were two...
  13. Too bad Steinbrenner/Costanza is not our ownership group...how many times did Billy Martin return to the fold?
  14. This makes Renteria’s comments about stretching him out for 3-4 innings look even more inane in hindsight.
  15. We didn’t send any more out, did we?
  16. A poor man’s Manuel Margot...
  17. Isn’t Joe Francis in jail...? Or hiding out in a non-extradition country?
  18. We don’t know yet. Idle Speculation. Guessing he probably does, but considering how tough Bieber is and that Robert’s picked up his strikeout pace pretty dramatically the past 3-5 games, it wouldn’t be a total shock to see Engel in CF and Mazara in right.
  19. Not playing Robert tonight is one of the myriad reasons baseball is struggling to fend off the NBA for second place in the world of professional sports. Giannis vs. Doncic is celebrated around the world as a match-up that defines the future of basketball, whereas Luis Robert has yet to make a name for himself outside of the Chicagoland area because he plays for a "second tier" franchise. In the NBA, if you're a future star, say, like Ja Morant or Tray Young, no matter what team you play for...you'll be discovered, embraced, celebrated. Whereas MLB increasingly becomes a regionalized sport. That said, watching baseball games in the Covid-19 format isn't as bad as other sports like football and basketball that are even more fan-participation centered.
  20. The Reds have one of the best starting rotations in baseball...getting Votto back again will help immensely, especially if he can return to 2018 form.

  22. https://www.usdebtclock.org Here’s a number for Rabbit. $26,620,000,000,000. Added another $1.3 trillion over the weekend with four executive orders, so let’s just call it $28 trillion for now to round it off. https://thehill.com/blogs/blog-briefing-room/news/510973-arizona-teacher-fined-2000-for-quitting-over-in-person-school
  23. Still younger than next US president, a slightly more stressful position...
  24. Garver, sure. Sano has always had the potential to be the next David Ortiz.
