  1. Source...? Just noticed that not only was Jo Adell picked #9 in 2017, right before Burger....Hiura went 8th. Putting up some huge numbers for the Brewers so far in his rookie season. For what it’s worth...Bummer is throwing harder. Just doesn’t know exactly why. https://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/white-sox/ct-white-sox-aaron-bummer-20190620-65qm3vdycrbtbcqga7aaekvj5u-story.html
  2. You can definitely make the argument that the base-stealing Raines of his Montreal days had almost the same impact on baseball as Ricky Henderson. That’s the tough one here...career longevity vs. early peaks, guys like Alomar or Sandberg who were the very best players for 5-6 years but faded fast (another similar argument on the pitching side would be Felix Hernandez vs. CC Sabathia.)
  3. That would be fine had he not been locked into that long-term contract already...plus, most NL teams are going to prefer a better defender on the corners unless they’re convinced he would be content at 1B/DH. At any rate, it’s not clear what #1 starter we could get other than those guys like Stroman, Gray, Syndegaard/deGrom, Bauer, etc., under limited control. The whole point of young players is to take advantage of that cost savings...this would only shorten the competitive window unless you were confident you could turn around Foltynewitz, Freeland, etc.
  4. Like Quentin and Eaton...so the caveat should be only former DBacks...except Dunn played there in 2008, so it would have to be players who began their career in AZ.
  5. Greinke, for example...or Bumgarner has 18 career homers.
  6. We’re pissed AND laughing simultaneously...that’s the only way to get through a decade-long rebuild. And everything in the world indicates ownership and the front office really don’t care that much about fan opinion, anyway.
  7. If you were a Sox fan from 1968-1982 or 1983-1989 or 2012 through today...then you would be almost suicidal without having a sense of humor about it all. I’m going to guess you weren’t around for 70’s and 80’s White Sox baseball.
  8. Well, this is really an observation about age, maturity and perspective...like having a family. Unless it’s your team in the World Series like the Red Sox in 2004, White Sox in 2005 or Cubs in 2003/2016, you’re almost always going to have a big/ger picture way of looking at sports unless you’re gambling on it. When you’re in your teens and twenties, everything seems like life and death. Then we grow out of it.
  9. Actually, Quintana was also very good his rookie season, 2012...with very limited AA experience. Buehrle was very effective from the minute he joined the bullpen and gradually forced his way into the rotation. Kip Wells was very impressive his rookie season.
  10. Well sure, but then that’s diametrically opposed to the root of fanatic, which is fan. If that's the case, if you can just coolly and dispassionately watch a game like Benetti, well then there’s almost no point in having a favorite team unless they’re competitive. But finding things to LOL about in another lost season is part of the entertainment as well.
  11. If you can’t have a sense of humor after seven terrible seasons...realistically, what other coping mechanism besides turning off the game can people choose?
  12. Almost 60 pitches already... Should have followed the scouting report on d’Arnaud, no sliders. Could feel that grand slam coming after the second walk of the inning. Osich coming in if Pham reaches...one of those games that might end up with a 0.0 television rating like the Astros used to manage.
  13. Right now, I’d put it like this... 1) Angels....from Southern Cal, pitched with Bauer at UCLA, LA would have three marketable stars in Trout, Ohtani, Cole 2) Astros...obvious reasons 3) Phillies...need another frontline starter to compete with Braves, willingness to spend (could alternatively go after Stroman, Syndegaard, Bauer, Minor, etc.) 4) Yankees...need more RHP balance, Severino’s recovery a question mark 5&6) Rangers and White Sox...Texas, because they’ll have money to spend, he’s shown that he enjoys environment in Texas and is quite comfortable there, but no pitcher wanted to deal with July/August weather although the new stadium should change that calculus White Sox or Rangers would have to offer $210-240 million over 6 years to get it done...which Reinsdorf is highly unlikely to approve for the numerous reasons discussed dating back to Jaime Navarro.
  14. Not in the greatest fielding position as he finishes his delivery, but nasty stuff. Some fastballs at 98 are easily hittable, his seems to be more dynamic, crisper somehow.
  15. https://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/27026944/mazara-505-foot-hr-ties-longest-five-years Guess that info was out of date...interestingly, Mazara has/had 2 of the 4 longest (Gary Sanchez and Desmond) https://www.mlb.com/news/10-longest-homers-measured-by-statcast-c293547722 He also had another in 2016...these were the longest of the Statcast era, beginning in 2015...two were Coors, one was Arizona.
  16. Why are you not looking fastball there, Leury?
  17. Well...Renteria Ball fails for the opposition, as well. Dave Wills is getting really aggravated, haha.
  18. Oops, guess leadoff guy didn’t reach in the 7th. No point In bunting with Zunino slumping...or they bunt and PH with d’Arnaud.
  19. 6 saves, 6 blown saves....that’s not so good (said in Paciorek voice) Seven innings in a row the lead off man has reached for the Rays, crazy.
  20. It’s almost like that rookie hazing...Ozzie, Ventura and Renteria almost always prefer/preferred to go with the veteran. Nice play, Avi! Haha...even the Rays’ announcers thought he was a mere lumbering oaf. Interestingly, Pham and Meadows have both played a lot more CF during their careers.
  21. It’s not that bad...especially if it’s served with the right mix of spices. Better than goat, a little worse than lamb or veal because it’s usually not as tender.
  22. Power problem due to severe thunderstorm problem. KW and Hahn were right...”Avi Garcia has all the physical ability in the world to be a CFer...”
  23. Kansas City had that fish tacos thing going as well since the mid-90’s, one of the local Mexican ristorantes. Carne asada’s great too. Unfortunately, yak won’t catch on...not even in Tibet, where it’s one of the primary meat choices.
  24. You weren’t satisfied with “Engel returns, ‘Ready to help this team win’”? That’s Rudy-esque stuff, right there. If they were playing at home and the heat index wasn’t 110, you’d probably get an update.
