If McCann and Giolito can sustain their level of play...and it’s not the last guy in the bullpen if we trade two of high leverage relievers, it’s almost the entire bullpen, and that’s not as easy as one would think (see Sox problems finding a RFer or DH). If they’re suddenly going to open their wallets with a series of at least 2-3 $80-140 million contracts, sure. But if they do crash and end end up in the high 60’s for win count, one gets the feeling that will be the excuse to wait yet another year before pulling the trigger in free agency...playing it conservatively again because there are so many question marks in Kopech, Cease, Lopez, etc. Meanwhile, we have to go from the second worst defense to the opposite.

So basically we have the equivalent of C Lee to trade in Abreu...and are going to have the most fortuitous series of acquisitions in 15 years. Okay. Well, if Minnesota can supplement their young core, why not? Although the collective fwar or bwar of that group probably isn’t far off our current yearly total in 2019.

Nope, Wellington Castillo gets to lose 12-15 pounds in 100 degree temps tmrw at 1 p.m.

Repeating that title after Giolito’s 2018....quite the accomplishment.
-
He was limited in range at that point after the leg injury and typically threw flat footed, but he was surely more competent than Avi or Palka and had a pretty strong throwing arm compared to most of today’s players.

Oops, 42-9. Kicked a field goal at Arrowhead.

The Acceptance Phase of James Shields and Tatis Jr.

Tatis Jr. is human after all. 0 for his last 9, six strikeouts, two careless throwing errors (#11&12).... -

More concerned with programming/DJing the clubhouse music score. -
All we need is Mike Human Rain Delay Hargrove hitting to make this the slowest possible pace in MLB history. Btw, White Sox second in errors in the AL, have averaged 109 the last six seasons. Fry on....trade showcase.
-
Tilson/Engel in CF or Goins starting, it’s a toss up which is worse. At least Engel will run into one every 75 at-bats or so.
-
Polanco is actually a case quite similar to Giolito...went from the depths of underperformance to All Star/Cy Young in half a season.

Goins Called Up; Minaya Clears Waivers, Outrighted to AAA

We should be thankful we had those three guys to trade or we’d currently be on a 10-15 year rebuild and selling off Luis Robert after he hit arbitration eligibility to the highest bidder. -

A top #1-3 system in baseball better go deeper than the Top 4-5 guys in terms of impact. -
“According to a report, Minnesota tried to extend outfielders Byron Buxton and Max Kepler, right-hander Jose Berrios and two other unnamed young players, but all five players turned down the long-term deal. MLB teams have long used long-term extensions to buy out young stars' remaining years of arbitration eligibility in exchange for more monetary security for the players. The Twins young stars refusal to sign long-term deals does not mean they don't plan to stay with the team, but simply that they believe they will be worth more in the future than what the team offered them.” Guessing the other players were some combination of Rosario, Sano or Polanco....and guessing there’s no way the White Sox could come up with what Rodon/Boras (past tense), Robert or Moncada feel they’re worth. To complicate things even more, Giolito’s family is extremely wealthy. That just leaves McCann. The myth of Hahn: Master Negotiator, will be greatly tested. Including Anderson, he’s had four successes in this arena. And it’s not like it’s a sure thing the Jimenez deal will be a great bargain, if solely measured by fWAR.

The ulnar nerve runs down the inside of the elbow. If you knock the inside of the elbow, you can hit the ulnar nerve (or funny bone) which causes a numbness or tingling down the forearm into the fourth and fifth fingers. When this nerve becomes trapped or damaged through repetitive strain or a direct impact, it creates this sensation and can cause elbow pain. Symptoms Pain on the inside/back of the elbow. Tingling or numbness in the ring finger and little finger and possibly along the inside of the forearm. Pain which increases and radiates to the outer two fingers of the hand. Reproduction of symptoms whilst tapping over the ulnar groove on the inside of the elbow (between the bone at the back of the elbow and the one just to the inside of this) What is the Ulnar Nerve? The ulnar nerve runs down the inside of the elbow. If you knock the inside of the elbow you can get numbness or buzzing down the forearm into the fourth and fifth fingers (hitting your funny bone). It is the ulnar nerve that is being hit when this happens. The ulnar nerve can become entrapped, compressed or damaged for several reasons, including traction injuries (common in throwers), progressive compression due to inflammation and adhesions caused by repetitive strain, direct trauma and bony growths in the ulnar groove. The symptoms of ulnar nerve entrapment are similar to that of golfer’s elbow (medial epicondylitis). Treatment What can you do? Rest the arm. Apply cold therapy. What can a doctor do? Prescribe anti-inflammatory medication Immobilize the arm for a short period. Use soft tissue therapy to break down adhesions that may be restricting the nerve. Demonstrate neural stretching exercises. Operate in severe or persistent cases.

https://www.minorleagueball.com/2017/1/3/14156566/chicago-white-sox-top-20-prospects-for-2017 It’s almost shocking what has happened to every player on this list from 2017, starting with Fulmer...the value of every single one of them has regressed, other than Omar Narvaez. Of course, it doesn’t include Luis Robert, the Q trade, the 17/18/19 drafts (we all know the Burger story), Gonzalez/Rutherford/Walker, but WOW and not exactly in a good way. -

Would have been a mildly exciting move back in 2012... -
He never was going to be a plus arm to begin with...but that surgery would cause him to miss or be behind in what was originally slated to be a competitive 2020 season.

Shake-up Needed in Coaching Staff, ASAP

DJ noted the way the players are supposed to handle these situations in my OP. Renteria just reinforced that with his quote. So the obvious question is why isn’t it happening...maybe they need one of those infamous Guillen/Cora “fundamentals mini-camps” on an upcoming off day before Moncada, Abreu or McCann get hurt, too. -
Maybe they can hold an informative and enlightening press conference on why Reinsdorf and heirs are stuck with us...or fans with them.
-
Maybe we can acquire Domingo Santana from the M’s, he might be the only outfielder worse than Jimenez defensively? Still pretty surprising with those offensive numbers he’s going to be sent to his fourth organization at such a young age. “Boston will fix ‘em!” Quotes never ever said at SoxTalk for $200, Alex.

Shake-up Needed in Coaching Staff, ASAP

Here’s the telling quote... “I’m sure they were both commanding the ball,” Renteria said. “When you talk to your outfielders, you have to call it as loud and constantly as you possibly can, and they remember the priority guy. And one has to deviate. It kind of looked like Eloy was going behind him, but I don’t know if ... obviously they made contact.” -
MRI scheduled for today in Chicago...
