The great thing about Happ is he wouldn’t cost any talent and the Yankees would probably send over $3-5 million to make it more palatable. It wouldn’t impact ant aspect of the 2021-23 contention windows unless he pitched well (165 IP and 27+ starts.) Clevinger and Snell are pipe dreams. Price requires the Red Sox to eat almost $50 million to make it a sound bet for the White a Sox. That’s a non-starter for them. Happ was really a decent pitcher in 2018 and 2017, right in the vicinity of 3 fWAR. He consistently gives you innings and is durable and takes the ball every fifth day. If they go back to non SuperBalls, he becomes even more valuable as he does surrender quite a few fly balls. The Red Sox are going to expect the White Sox to pay him $71 million over 3 years AND send them ANYTHING? WHY? WHY? WHY? Or the White Sox are going to get $71 million from the Red Sox (that seems even more unrealistic)...

Some are just enamored with the brand-name and remembrance of 2008 peak David Price with a high 90's fastball and devastating slider. That version no longer exists.

If the Yankees just gave him to us for salary relief...that would be a lot better than assuming a ton of risk with Price in the middle of our contention window. IF IF IF he can get back to being a 3 fWAR pitcher in a much weaker division, that's a HUGE win for the White Sox...and allows us to compete in 2020 if everything goes right instead of mortgaging their future by trading away Vaughn, Madrigal or even Collins. Happ has 7.2 fWAR the last 3 years, for an average of 2.4 fWAR. David Price has 6.2 fWAR the last 3 years, for an average of 2.1 fWAR. So we're only talking about 3 years of difference in age, and Happ being a much more durable pitcher at this point in his career who doesn't rely purely on his stuff to keep teams in games.

All depends on the cash subsidy....they're not going to send $60+ million, and Collins is our only expendable prospect, all things considered.

Just the fact that we've gone from Zack Wheeler to David Price and Teheran shows you the rebuild is in serious trouble if all the young pitchers don't fulfill their optimistic projections (and when has that ever happened?) You can't have two full years of PRIME Moncada/Giolito jeopardized by one Tommy John surgery to Kopech and one misread Zack Wheeler market (by the entire front office), following a severe misread on the Machado market the previous off-season... The Twins and Indians can survive those kind of misses. We are not yet in that position. We're the large market team in the AL Central. We have unprecedented financial flexibility, SUPPOSEDLY. Clelveland is abandoning ship and the Twins haven't done anything major other than keeping Odorizzi and Pineda in house. Yet we're acting like the freaking Royals in the 1990's and 2000's for god's sake. We have conservatively another $50 million in broadcast revenues coming in, as well. It's ridiculous that we're in this completely desperate position...instead of being on the offensive, and making some aggressive low-risk moves with the "rebound/bounceback" pitchers like Wood, Walker, McHugh, Teheran, etc.

When's the last time we had a consistent 2+ fWAR RFer? One that was above-average defensively? Sure, Avi had his one peak season in 2017, but other than that...you have to go back to Adam Eaton in the season before he was traded. (And very few around here wanted to sign Avi Garcia to a long-term extension, correct?) Before Eaton, it has been a wasteland of RFer's that takes you all the way back to peak Jermaine Dye in the middle 2000's.

In fact, he's averaging 2.1 (over the last three), with a peak of 2.8. That still puts Mazara's fWAR numbers to shame. If you believe defense is important, like the Cubs did when they gave Heyward a boatload a money or the Royals with Alex Gordon, then it's something you at least have to consider if you actually want to compete in 2020.

There's just no way that happens. #1, I'm one of the biggest Madrigal fans on here, that would be completely contrary to every argument why he's so important to this organization. Not to mention that he goes to the Red Sox and automatically becomes Pedroia, Jr. It's almost guaranteed. Like death and taxes. Since they're forcing Abreu onto the roster for 3 more years, Vaughn is MORE expendable, but that would STILL be idiotic to trade him...Hahn would rather have one more rebuilding year and sit it out than run the risk of a prospect trade blowing up in his face, especially if the starting rotation completely goes south and we end up with a 75 win team. Arguably, that SHOULD get him fired, but it probably wouldn't.

The proposal was $60 million to the White Sox, Price, JB Jr. for Collins and Tier C/D prospect. If we're going with all young pitchers and one veteran castoff, you can't have Robert out on an island with Mazara and Jimenez surrounding him. Mazara or Jimenez both belong at the DH spot, but Mazara is the obvious one to put there. That's the ONLY way they can realistically compete in 2020...if Bradley has one of his better offensive years and you get Mazara off the field so you have two strong defenders and make that a strength rather than a weakness. It doesn't matter, because it's not going to happen anyway. Hahn will want Benintendi, the Red Sox won't give up more than half Price's contract ($48 million) and Hahn's not going to trade Vaughn/Madrigal with Benintendi off the table, so it's pointless to even discuss.

Wade Miley would give you similar fWAR for $30 million less...Nova, Wood, McHugh, Walker, Teheran, etc. We have to stop thinking of David Price as the 2008 version with the high 90's fastball and killer slider. That guy is LONG gone, never to be heard from again. Not only that, but you're at least partially allowing Boston to retain Mookie Betts...and taking him as an option off the table for 2020-21. Do that, all of a sudden the Astros extend Springer, you're looking at only platoon bat Joc Pederson and an aging Brantley as your RF solutions. Not GOOD!!!

We heard the exact same thing about Santana...but he was already toast. Teheran put up decent numbers in the NL last year, but has SO SO SO much mileage already on that arm going back to age 15/16. At GRF, I wouldn't think he could do any better than Ivan Nova.

Eaton coming off his peak season had/has a lot more value than Benintendi currently does...especially with the increased focus on homers/power (who knows what baseball they'll use next year). Adam picked up so much defensive value moving from CF to RF and collecting a pile of assists from that position. Benintendi, at best, is neutral. It's all academic, because they will attempt to dump JBJr. on the White Sox, not AB.

The only way that you think about Vaughn or Madrigal is if the Red Sox are sending $60 million and giving you JBJr (I think we can forget about Benintendi.) Even then, do you really want David Price on a 3 year contract for $36 million? Anyone? JBJr. is just a salary dump, again...going into FA next year. The one thing about Bradley is he would improve the defense by leaps and bounds. You could play him and Robert together and DH Mazara and/or Jimenez. But still don't really like it for the White Sox because of all the concerns overhanging David Price going forward...and then losing Bradley into FA and having to fight to fill the position yet again (assuming one of the minor league OFer's doesn't break through next year.)

Everyone in the world though Alexei was a bit older than his stated age...and was nearing a decline. And jumping the rawest prospect in baseball in terms of actual playing experience from AA to the majors was never going to be the best path for his development.

Did he link the Sox to Ryu/Boras yet? It would be funny if he went to the Rangers with how many pitchers they’ve already added the last two cycles...Hahn will quickly out out the statement “we simply couldn’t compete with their sparkling new facility and the ability for him to be reunited and become teammates with his countryman Choo as both conclude their impactful careers.”

Alexei was nearing the end of his effectiveness by then...they projected he (Semien) was just going to be a utility player, the end. A more versatile Micah with some pop and less speed. They also had Saladino, fwiw.
