https://www.yahoo.com/gma/trump-calls-guam-...topstories.html What next, Trump Intl. Tower in Guam? Insanity. Well, the new D.C. Hotel has already made $2 million in profits, so why not? Can't believe the biggest concern here is Guam tourism increasing and hotel occupancy rates. He can invite this Guam governor the next time they have a cabinet meeting where everyone obsequiously praises Trump as they go around the table...

Who didn't love Uribe, Sandy Alomar or Omar Vizquel? I can see nearly everyone disliking Alex Rios, and maybe getting annoyed with the antics of a Melky and now Yolmer, but it hasn't seemed like he has gone particularly overboard about it. -
QUOTE (Quin @ Aug 11, 2017 -> 11:23 PM) Idk man, might have prevented my grandmother from blowing generational wealth in the 80s. Two sides to every coin, industry insiders vs. "mom and pop" investors who can't easily recover from a major investment setback in their 40s or 50s.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Aug 11, 2017 -> 04:47 PM) Last I checked, the Royals played in Missouri- not England. He has no place to talk. It comes from the American Royal... https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Royal The Kansas City Royals began play in 1969 as an expansion team. The year before, the team held a name-the-team contest that received more than 17,000 entries. Sanford Porte, a bridge engineer from the suburb of Overland Park, was named the winner for his “Royals” entry. His reason had nothing to do with royalty. “Kansas City’s new baseball team should be called the Royals because of Missouri’s billion-dollar livestock income, Kansas City’s position as the nation’s leading stocker and feeder market and the nationally known American Royal parade and pageant,” Porte wrote. -
4. The fiduciary standard gets punted Perhaps the biggest financial reform of the late Obama era was the “fiduciary rule,” the 2015 Obama regulation that requires investment advisers to act in the best interest of their clients when selling products like retirement investments. (The concern was that many advisers were pushing investments with a higher commission for the adviser, rather than a better return for the client.) It was assumed to be doomed under the new administration, but Democrats enjoyed a brief moment of celebration in May when Labor Secretary Alexander Acosta wrote in a Wall Street Journal op-ed that he would allow the rule to take effect in early June. It now appears the celebration was premature. Only part of the rule took effect in June, and the Labor Department isn’t enforcing that part until the entire rule takes effect on January 1, 2018. But now even that won’t be happening: This week, in a court filing, the Labor Department revealed that it had sent a rule to the White House for review that would delay full implementation of the fiduciary rule for 18 months, until July 1, 2019—enough time for the Trump administration to make significant changes or repeal it altogether. Let's not forget Tatis, Jr., haha. (The one trade that's almost indefensible.) At any rate, hopefully Burger can hold down 3b for a decade and we don't-won't have to rue losing Manny Machado Jr. for Juego Grande Shields. Ironically enough, that position is soon bringing forth Donaldson, Machado and Arenado, three names most often bantered about in future FA discussions around here.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Aug 11, 2017 -> 11:12 AM) I have to admit I was worried after the first 10 games or so that he was going to have trouble gearing up for MLB fastballs. Let's just say, after he ripped a 99 and 95 mph fastball for the HR and walkoff last night those fears are greatly diminished. Glad to see him pick himself back up after a tough stretch in the middle of the game as well when he struck out with RISP and dropped a surefire double play ball. The last Martes hit showed 97 on the screen...and fairly effortlessly pulled.

QUOTE (2005thxfrthmmrs @ Aug 11, 2017 -> 03:40 PM) Then teams like Astros (Bregman, Correa, McCullers) and Yankees (Judge, Sanchez, Severino) would have us beat. Let's not pretend that the Sox farm system actually produce a lot of quality starters in recent years. Bellinger, Seager, Chris Taylor, Puig, Urias....all 26 or younger. Joc Pederson, star diminished at the moment. Grandal and Barnes not much older. Alex Wood is also just 26.

Even if the Democrats are able to rebrand their agenda—the party's new motto is "A Better Deal: Better Skills, Better Jobs, Better Wages," which has been compared to pizza company Papa John's slogan—and win back some seats in areas where Trump barely clinched a victory, it likely won't be enough to give them a majority in either house of Congress. "Even if Democrats were to win every single 2018 House and Senate race for seats representing places that Hillary Clinton won or that Trump won by less than 3 percentage points—a pretty good midterm by historical standards—they could still fall short of the House majority and lose five Senate seats," David Wasserman, of poll analysis site FiveThirtyEight, wrote Monday. "Today, Republicans don’t even need to win any 'swing states' to win a Senate majority: 52 seats are in states where the 2016 presidential margin was at least 5 percentage points more Republican than the national outcome," Wasserman added. But Democratic operatives tell Newsweek the party could see major wins against the GOP in the upcoming elections if they further embrace the progressive, Bernie Sanders-style politics that grew increasingly popular throughout the 2016 primaries. "Sanders supporters are forceful, they're vocal, but they haven't learned how to win yet," says Scott Bolden, a Democratic strategist and former chairman of the D.C. Democratic State Committee. "I think the Democrats are still trying to win support from Sanders supporters, and whether they have been successful to date is still an open question." Progressives continue to lean on the Republican Party's stalled agenda in their efforts to unseat the GOP with liberal newcomers, believing a shift further to the left could be the most effective way of garnering anti-Trump voters, instead of embracing the centrist governing style employed by Clinton and Obama Democrats. "Is it convenient someone as horrific as Trump, with his destructive agenda, is in the White House? In a way, yes," says Lucy Flores, a former Nevada assemblywoman and founding board member of the progressive group Our Revolution. "It helps engage people who otherwise may not be involved in politics take a stand for the issues they believe in. It's why we've been able to field and train so many new people to run in local elections." https://www.yahoo.com/news/trump-may-win-20...-153122679.html

Here we go again...maybe it would be better if he just stuck to golf!!! Bridgewater, New Jersey (CNN)President Donald Trump further escalated his rhetorical standoff with North Korea Friday morning, saying the US was ready to respond militarily should the rogue nation "act unwisely." "Military solutions are now fully in place, locked and loaded, should North Korea act unwisely. Hopefully Kim Jong Un will find another path!" he tweeted. Trump has refused to back down in his verbal confrontation with the North Korean leader, suggesting to reporters Thursday that his threat to unleash "fire and fury" may not have gone far enough. "Maybe it wasn't tough enough," Trump said at his golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey. Trump said past administrations had not done enough to take on North Korea and that it is time a President "stuck up for the country." http://www.cnn.com/2017/08/10/politics/tru...orea/index.html

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 11, 2017 -> 06:41 AM) NK is not threatening to actually attack Guam. They are threatening to bomb the water 40km away from Guam. Don't let the chicken hawk warmongers beat the drums with false claims. The biggest problem is a misfire hitting Japan accidentally....

Or trying to fight everyone on the Royals off the field...let's see how Sale holds up in the playoffs when things go the wrong direction. Fwiw, that will be a huge test for him, maturity-wise. So far, he has handled Boston a lot better than David Price. (Well, I know what some will argue there, and it's also a valid point.)

"Yes, in my life. First time (walk off hit)," Moncada said through interpreter Billy Russo. "I feel very excited." (97 mph off Martes). After striking out with runners on base in the fifth and seventh via a slider and changeup, respectively, Moncada turned a 2-0 fastball at 98.7 mph from closer Ken Giles into a game-tying home run to left-center with one out in the ninth. "Got to tip my cap off to him," said Giles, who felt as if he made a good pitch on the black of the plate in the ninth and even checked the video for confirmation. "He put a good swing on it and drove it the other way. Nothing I can do. Can't really be mad about it. Good pitch, good swing. Hats off to him." That pitch marked the second-fastest hit by a White Sox player for a home run this year, with Todd Frazier going deep off a 99.3-mph fastball on June 8. Moncada also became the first South Sider since Tyler Flowers on Sept. 8, 2014, against Oakland to hit a game-tying homer in the ninth and then walk it off in extras. Joe Crede stands as the last White Sox rookie to accomplish such a feat on Aug. 27, 2002, against Toronto. Moncada was hit with pretty much everything his teammates could find in the postgame celebration and had his jersey shredded during the scrum. As for memorabilia taken from the night, Moncada said the memories were enough. "I'm going to say from my heart is just the celebration, the moment," Moncada said. "I had a chance to watch Moncada in Triple-A, and I tell you what, it was something special," said White Sox starter Carlos Rodon, who finished with a no-decision after allowing two runs over eight innings without walking a hitter. "That patience up there, you see it, lot of 0-2 to 3-2 to walks. He battles and it's about time. He's got a good bat. Just a special player, man." Including Thursday's results, Moncada has reached base safely in 17 of his last 31 plate appearances (seven walks). Moncada's average has reached .213, after starting the season at 4-for-42, and his on-base percentage is a robust .377. Those walks are all part of the process, according to Moncada. "It was something indescribable," Moncada said. "All my emotions were to the roof when I hit that ball and then when I was running the bases. It was something unique." http://m.mlb.com/news/article/247593280/yo...r-walk-off-hit/

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 10, 2017 -> 10:10 PM) Caulfield is this a hot topic in China? Are you concerned? You are an international expert. How will this play out? Personally I'm a little surprised Trump isn't calling for all Americans to get out of S. Korea now and all Americans to get out of Guam except military. Nobody is overly concerned, this is SOP for North Korea for three generations of leaders. But adding Trump as the unknown variable makes for a pretty combustible situation if his military advisors can't reign him in.

http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=...0&sort=10,d This would put him between 22nd out of 31 in ops for 2b with 200+ at bats. Yolmer is dead last. Basically, to be Top Ten you need to be over 800 (Happ at .802) Altuve, Daniel Murphy and Jose Ramirez are the only 3 over 900. Average 2B fWAR is equal to 2.97 for the Top Ten, with Happ being last at 0.7 due to fielding/defense. Altuve is the huge outlier at 5.9. We are talking about Moncada being at least a 3.5-4.5 war guy, if not higher. As it stands now, Avi and Abreu would be fortunate to end above 3.

Best road record in baseball...just swept by the Sox. Moncada with impressive tying and game winning hits.......huge breakout game, especially the oppo homer against Giles in the bottom of the 9th. Just had a feeling a 1-1 fastball was coming there from Martes. 213/754

Moncada ops all the way up over 700, now a more respectable 735.
