  1. The problem is that (seemingly) Ventura and Renteria aren’t/weren’t the kind of managers to deal well with clubhouse cliques. Ozzie was the last manager who got all the various groups to integrate well with each other, partly by taking media attention and focus off the players and putting on himself (Maddon is somewhat similar.) After all the issues in Baltimore and Washington last year, you wonder how much the manager factors into the decision. Yes, the obvious caveat that the most money wins out 90-95% of the time.

Bumblebee is definitely the best film in the Transformers franchise (low bar, there) and a good family film for the holidays, similar to the first one in many ways. It’s also the first one without Bay directing. Mortal Engines is quite a bit better than the reviews. Far from great, but if you like dystopian visions of the future with lots of imaginative cinematography, this is not a bad watch at all.
  3. So theoretically we would have surrounded the core of Eaton/Sale/Abreu/Quintana with a lot more talent if the t.v. deal expired in 2014 or 2015? Thank god there’s motivation the Bulls apparently don’t have (ticket sales/attendance/merchandising/inflated t.v. deals) to actually land a whale or two.
  4. Not revenue sharing, I should have listed it as a subsidy of a little more than $2 million when gate receipts are divided and split up with all the other teams. I had every team listed in a thread before but now all the data is hidden behind a paywall and I can’t find the old thread. Teams like the Cubs are kicking $5-7 million back into the pool because they’re doing so well.
  5. Don’t forget Rudy Law and Julio Take Me on A Sea Cruz.
  6. You’re also looking at a $5.0 - 7.5 million negative swing in revenue sharing....as we’ve been a net positive recipient of subsidies the last five years due to poor gate revenues, that’s going to swing the other direction where we would actually be making payments to be distributed.

  8. https://www.mlb.com/news/yonder-alonso-traded-to-white-sox/c-301883238 Alonso played 138 games at first base in 2018 for the American League Central champions, but if all things stay the same with the White Sox roster makeup, he figures to split time with Jose Abreu between first and designated hitter. The move, which followed the free-agent signing of catcher James McCann on Friday, might indicate a change in direction from fellow premium Bryce Harper. Or the relationship between Machado and Alonso could be just an interesting side note. The White Sox still have plenty of contractual room even with adding Alonso's salary, as Spotrac has them just over $33 million pre-arbitration for '19, so this trade won't influence moves in that way.
  9. Yeah, we haven’t considered fully the effect on Abreu and whether Renteria could even handle that team...would Castillo/Alonso/Machado start clowning like Melky and Yolmer as they cruised to 68-72 wins together? In other words, are those the best veteran leaders for Moncada, Anderson, Jimenez, etc. to emulate?
  10. Contract Notes: 2020 Vesting Option includes a $1M buyout, vests with: 550 PA in 2019 or 1,100 across 2018-19 574 plate appearances in 2018, so the Sox would be on the hook for the next year (age 33 in 2020) if he reaches just 526 this season.
  11. Sure, if we’re willing to field $160-180 million payrolls on a yearly basis. It’s still going to require at least a 40% hit rate on our Top 12 prospects, and assumes Jimenez will be a hitting star. $80-90 million spread across 3 players (logically, they need at least one veteran stud pitcher to solidify the rotation) for an organization that only operated like a large market team from 2006-2008 would be a huge leap of faith.
  12. Guess that depends...if the Indians win three more division titles from 2019-2021, probably not.
  13. https://www.cleveland.com/tribe/2018/12/cleveland-indians-trade-first-baseman-yonder-alonso-to-white-sox-after-acquisition-of-carlos-santana-jake-bauers.html “Let’s see EE 2 on in scoring position..... oops another K. Alonso. Take strike 1 Take strike 2. Swing and a miss. K. Won’t miss it at all.” According to Larry, Alonso will fit in well with Moncada. “Lets get really crazy and trade Kluber to LA Dodgers for CF Verdugo, a virtual Brantley clone, Caleb Ferguson LH SP, and C prospect Diego Cartaya (age 17). Then trade Bauer since there's no way you will ever re-sign him to the Cardinals for OF Tyler O'Neill (RH power bat), RP Jordan Hicks (105 MPH), and a player to be named low level prospect)/ Then sign Lindor to a 10 yr, 300 Million contract extension.” It’s kind of amusing, many of the Indians’ fans are all ready to jump ship and trade Kluber and Bauer and aren’t even sure they will pony up the money for Linder/Ramirez. The front office has managed to cut about $27 million in 2019 payroll, and that’s before the predicted trade of Kluber. They’ve also lost 86 out of 216 homers last year, although Santana should be good for 20-25 back.
  14. McCann at least can stop the automatic doubles and triples when we’re leading the world in walks...
  15. Pretty hard to do from Wuhan, China. Unless I’m Aquaman and can just traverse the Pacific in a matter of seconds. I could go Columbia River to the Missouri to Mississippi but then things would get complicated. I guess Illinois River to the Des Plaines River.
  16. Southsider2k5 is doomed now, too.
  17. Yes, because he’s made more spelling/grammatical errors in ten days than I have made in a decade. We must be the same person! You got me.
  18. Because the Indians don’t even see us as a legit threat to their 2019-21 window, lol... Or they simply refuse to believe that Reinsdorf will sign off on a contract 4X the largest one in Sox history.
  19. Now we’re DHing him when he’s a much better fielder than Abreu...sigh.
  20. Everyone is saying this tonight, when we are practically guaranteeing a Machado signing. Let’s see what this all looks like on July 1st, 2019.
  21. Okay, I’ll let Lilian criticize Machado’s character for awhile then...if you can convince her to change her mind on him.
  22. And your position on Hahn if this backfires? He gave it the ‘ol college try, that’s the best we could do, let’s just move move on?
  23. And your position on Hahn if this backfires? He gave it the ‘ol college try, that’s the best we could do, let’s just move move on?
  24. So it’s more logical to assume that this move guarantees Machado? Then the Indians would have figured that out first...and traded Kluber to the Dodgers last week to free up just enough money to fit Machado in for the 2019-21 seasons.
  25. The Indians were still going to be desperate to trade him, next week, next month or next March 1st.
