They mentioned today Wilson Contreras was exposed to Rule 5 and nobody took him... Our brush with glory was Adrian Nieto, and then Dylan Covey. Oh well, at least they came up with Q. And who is supposed to be instituting the Steverson hitting philosophy in the minors, Jim Thome?????

But Republicans said they hoped they wouldn’t need McCain to get over the hump. And to get their members on board, they are being as vague as possible about what the final bill to replace Obamacare would include, after two recent drafts met fatal opposition. “We’re trying to maximize the number of votes. I’m sorry, am I guilty of telling the truth?” said Senate Majority Whip John Cornyn (R-Texas), explaining the GOP’s intentionally ambiguous strategy. ... Republicans are strongly considering a strategy that would tee up two separate votes — one on the repeal only and another on the plan the Senate has been working on to repeal and replace Obamacare. If one fails, "you set up a vote on the other one," said Sen. John Thune (R-S.D.). The theory behind the strategy is that by making that assurance, Republicans could pick up votes to start debate from ardent conservatives as well as waffling moderates. Politico.com

Who should be there instead? Delmonico, Willy Garcia, Asche or Liriano? And why does it really matter? Leury coming back will force a subsequent move, anyway...

MiGo will likely to be traded now, with Rey Lopez the only logical candidate to replace him. Nobody wants to watch Danish as a starter.

07/24 GT: Cubs vs. Sox game 1, 1:20 PM
caulfield12 replied to LittleHurt05's topic in 2017 Season in Review
The k's today and two near defensive miscues today weren't good...but he hasn't generally looked intimidated out there. Easy to becswallowed up by that environment in Wrigley, too. At any rate, both Yoan and Anderson are going to get all the time in the world to prove themselves, so the first thing they're going to have to iron out is communication, whether it's Timmy (or Engel), they have to start taking charge more. -
Hawk said recently they're practicing "butcher boy" plays....Hanson is consistently the best.

Hard to imagine Milwaukee holding the Cubs and Pirates off without adding Sonny Gray...
-
Tied for first place.....doubt the Brewers make desperation move now, maybe someone like Swarzak Cabrera MiGo. Plus they have Twins, Cubs get Sox before next Fri

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jul 23, 2017 -> 08:47 PM) Why is there a huge wall in CF? Hitting backdrop...more interesting than typical 8-10 foot wall?

Anderson sitting two consecutive games...

Anthony Swarzak to Brewers; Sox receive Ryan Cordell

Royals have to keep Soler...no point dumping him now. But they could really use Swarzak and Cabrera. -
QUOTE (WhiteSoxfan1986 @ Jul 23, 2017 -> 11:01 AM) Dunkirk was great. I rarely see movies in the theaters but made sure to go see it. Only complaint was I wish there could have been some more dialogue. Either way, great movie. In some ways that wratched up the tension, especially the Spitfire duels...you got a real sense of how there was no place you could safely take cover. The minimalist nature of those sequences was cool too...usually a Bay will overwhelm you with planes in the sky. This was the exact opposite, like the first Spielberg movie Duel.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jul 22, 2017 -> 09:42 PM) The Houston Astros have an opening day payroll this year of $125 million and it took them 6 years to pull together the collection of talent we pulled together in 8 months. But the bar/benchmark will be that both the Astros and Cubs made it to the playoffs 1-2 years ahead of schedule...which would be 2020-2024 for the White Sox.

Losing to the Royals helps the White Sox in two ways. The End. There's no benefit to beating them, really. We've lost 21 of our last 28. Over a full season, that's a 40.5 and 121.5 record

Thames lead off double for Brewers...wiped out on bunt attempt.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 22, 2017 -> 08:28 PM) Brewers bullpen just blew a 7 run lead vs Phils Sounds like the Cubs in their two bad games recently....one they managed to win, though. Still no outs in Philly. Yet another reliever from Brewers throwing upper 90s, but not getting outs.

Alen Hanson sounds like downhill skier from Seattle...

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jul 22, 2017 -> 08:23 PM) I guess we'll finally know what Nationals fans go through every game. No...because those losses have real consequences for seeding, team confidence, post season...

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 22, 2017 -> 08:20 PM) Late 2007 may be worse Wasserman... MacDougal, Aardsma, Sisco, haha. Led directly to Dotel and Linebrink contracts. This will be 20 losses in past 27 games, btw. Al Albuquerque on the way. Blast from the past. Along with Neftali Feliz.

Harrelson's nuts thinking the Royals can afford Hosmer or Moustakas. Cain probably goes close/r to his hometown with a Braves' deal for 3-4 years.

QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 22, 2017 -> 08:15 PM) Um he got screwed by ump that AB Quite a few times this week he got the close call with two strikes. Feels like 5-6 at least. Francisco Lindor walkoff in bottom of the 10th inning.
-
QUOTE (Quin @ Jul 22, 2017 -> 08:14 PM) Rex Hudler on Moncada: "He's like the Royals' Raul Mondesi" Maybe his father...but faster. And a infielder, not RF. Mondesi Sr. had an amazing arm, but not Jr.
-
Already getting respect from umps on those close calls. 1/9, two walks, triple, no K's. Couple really nice swings against LAD with no positive results. And at least Melky can be easily traded now, if there's any benefit of tonight.
-
Could be Cleveland up by just 1/2 over MN and KC after tonight. Blue Jays just blew gift-wrapped opportunity to win, now in extras.

QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Jul 22, 2017 -> 07:50 PM) The bunting with Yoan was a bad decision. Your six hitter is up with two men on and you're going to have him bunt? I understand implementing a system, a style but that was just a bad move. It helps Yoan in his development to get opportunities to swing with men on, not bunt. Yeah, Yolmer has been slumping...you don't want to put the RBI opportunity in the hands of catchers or Engel, either. Oh well...that's probably why Renteria was cut loose, but Maddon tries to get cute all the time, too. The big difference is that he has the talent to overcome it.
