QUOTE (beautox @ Jul 22, 2017 -> 05:09 PM) The FO was likely debating if they could sign Rutherford with his love of the yankees and commit that he signed when he was 14 and passed, they viewed collins as the best college bat. Benintendi was their target but was off the board when they picked, nothing you can do about that and Fulmer was rushed through the minors in order to help a dying team. Some are already saying the sox have a historic farm system no one has ever had 10 ranked in the top 100 even if you throw collins and fulmer off Hansen and Dunning should get consideration. Tatis was a mistake hopefully they make less of those going forward, the good news is the latam was able to identify him. Also even the vaunted Astros aren't with out their missteps; Appel over Bryant, Aiken over Rodon and releasing JD Martinez in '14. So again whats the point of this thread? Can the White Sox overcome that level of miscalculation? Appel, Aiken, JD Martinez, Robbie Grossman, Singleton, Chris Johnson/Matt Dominguez... They're still going to have to spend roughly half the Cubs' $440 million invested just in Lester, Heyward, Zobrist and Lackey.

The newest and most expensive aircraft carrier ever built entered the U.S. Navy fleet Saturday, but almost three years behind schedule and billions of dollars over its estimated budget. With Saturday's commissioning, the carrier will go back into testing and training, and isn't expected to be fully operational until 2020 at the earliest. The ship's catapult has yet to launch an actual aircraft at sea and the vessel has only had helicopters land on its deck. Although it has yet to be put to the test, some already say the USS Gerald R. Ford is an example of the Navy's costly and risky bet on "immature" technology. Experts say the Navy's decision to roll out some untested technologies in its next-generation classes of ships has been a costly lesson. For example, the new Ford aircraft carrier going into the Navy fleet cost nearly $13 billion, or around $2.4 billion above plan. http://www.cnbc.com/2017/07/22/ford-carrie...logy-costs.html

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 22, 2017 -> 07:39 PM) I'm leaving the game thread now to take cover. Kidding ... I just feel my "hate the White Sox" mode is surging through my body so I better calm down lest I explode on here and get banned. Can I have $1 for every time you've been concerned about being banned or suspended and nothing happened...?

Renteria is trying to inculcate a team concept, right or wrong. Similarly, there was a lengthy debate on the Score today saying not even Lopez should come up this year to be around a losing atmosphere...so two sides to every coin. Personally, I believe Lopez, Giolito and Fulmer would all benefit from being around Cooper. I also believe they (the young starters) SHOULD have strong enough constitutions to weather the bullpen blowing most of the leads they do get.

Well, at least Moncada hasn't struck out. No errors. Bunting is more understandable hitting RH against Alexander. The hits will come eventually if he keeps making solid contact.

QUOTE (Quin @ Jul 22, 2017 -> 07:40 AM) What's the point of this thread? It can't always be infinite rays of sunshine...everyone will get bored thinking we're infallible, which might lead to disappointment. Just seems strange that one guy can be top twenty and the other barely making the list when the latter player has actually been healthy for that entire time, and improving his defense at a premium position.

Dunkirk is way intense....you have to watch on IMAX with surround sound. Excellent work from Nolan as usual. WOnder Woman 2 greenlit, Batgirl, sequel to Suicide Squad as well...

https://www.milb.com/milb/news/seattle-mari...968/t-185364810 Positional need for a catcher? Can't remember what was the basic argument last year. If we also had Benintendi/Happ, Lewis and Tatis Jr., oh well....that would have been the best farm system in the history of the game. It's a nice dream. And Happ's defense is holding down his (future) projections, not unlike Schwarber.

No relation to John Rocker I hope...

QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 21, 2017 -> 11:35 PM) I get so mad watching the games. I can't remember a Sox team that has ever trotted out such horrendous starting pitching. It's really an insult to Chicago sports fans everywhere. I just don't like it. As a proud Sox fan I have the right to feel embarrassed and saddened by this horses*** team. What happened to new and improved Greg? Keeping the Royals from trading all their core assets (free agents) sets them back another year or two...they will offer Moustakas, Cain and Hosmer arbitration, but that's not going to nearly as helpful. Big roll of the dice, but they have as realistic a chance as anyone because of so many AL Central games remaining on the schedule.

"American Assassin" movie is coming soon...perfect companion film that's 100% anti Palestinian. Just read the book last night. True Lies 2 with Arnie up next in the queue of scripts waiting approval in Hollywood. -
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 21, 2017 -> 07:36 AM) Well, if Leury becomes a better player, I would certainly have to re-evaluate. But, in general, I think it's easier to find a competent bench outfielder than a competent bench infielder, especially one who can play three positions. I like that Leury can fake infield, but still. Look how many career games he has at SS. http://www.milb.com/player/index.jsp?sid=m...elding/2017/ALL

Can we interview Haber on what they're planning to do with all the MLB payroll cost savings? Japan/Korea market? Minor league development/staffing? More scouts? More invested into Fabian's high tech databases and proprietary algorithms?

QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 21, 2017 -> 07:15 AM) I understand that Leury has had a better season, but I still think Sanchez is the better player. What if Garcia improves in CF, though? Stops showing off his arm by holding the ball and daring runners to advance, throws to cutoff man every time, better routes/reads, etc.

https://www.yahoo.com/gma/trump-expected-na...topstories.html And a new Communications Director is named, primarily due to campaign contributions and defending the honorable Don Jr. This keeps getting better and better. Spicer and Huckabee back to vying for #1 in ghosting press conferences offcam.

7/20 Games (Giolito, Kopech, Dunning)

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jul 20, 2017 -> 08:12 PM) What would you call that? A 5LB Burger? R-House on I-80 challenge to eat it all for free if not puking...the bread will get you. Honestly zero interest in any burger over 1/2 pound. -
QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 21, 2017 -> 06:57 AM) I think Sanchez is the best of all the guys you listed, and I don't think he'd bring back a significant return. IMO Leury is STILL barely behind Abreu in fWAR, 1.7 to 1.6. SANCHEZ at 1.1 and holding.

The holes of the system:shortstop and catcher
caulfield12 replied to Dominikk85's topic in FutureSox Board
QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 21, 2017 -> 06:31 AM) I'm really not considering ML pieces at all, and even if Anderson was Francisco Lindor, it's still a position you want talent in because a good SS can be anything. Jose Ramirez...Baez...Desmond, Profar, etc. A SS can play almost anywhere. Robin Yount, HoF example. We have four guys like that right now, although SANCHEZ and Hansen are lacking arm for regular SS play. -

That's when we bring in Molina, haha...we have to collect all HoF players at the end of their careers. KW special. -
QUOTE (beautox @ Jul 21, 2017 -> 06:12 AM) Thanks and thats fair, like I said pick 5 out of a hat I doubt you'll be disappointed. Kolek, Aiken, Rodon, Schwarber....

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 21, 2017 -> 05:55 AM) Great write-up! The only thing I disagree on is Lopez not being in the rotation. Davidson at 0.0 now...

QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 20, 2017 -> 07:25 AM) Yeah I disagree on catcher. For one, no org that I've seen is STOCKED with sure catchers. But everything behind Collins is where our depth is. Skoug, Alfaro, Zevala, Perez, Hickman. More interesting than it's been in a while. SS I totally agree but I think we see a pretty good shortstop enter the system around June next year. Anderson... -
Q traded to Cubs/Jimenez, Cease ++ to Sox
caulfield12 replied to Sleepy Harold's topic in Pale Hose Talk
I feel you. Will be flying over the Pacific Ocean/Alaska/Russia on the way to South Korea when the trade deadline officially hits. Fortunately, all the big trades have been made by the Sox. Just Swarzak and Cabrera, maybe maybe Avi to go....one of their utility infielders, and potentially MiGo, Pelfrey or Holland I guess. -
Some movies just get you. Field of Dreams, for similar reasons, the scene with Ray's father back to his younger days playing catch near the end. Up! Gladiator, the scene where Maximus turns around in the Colosseum and takes off his mask and stares down Commodus. Beauty and the Beast Hachi: A Dog's Tale (anyone with a dog, no way to watch that without getting emotional, much moreso than Marley & Me)
