QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 09:56 PM) Now the pressure is on the decelopmental staff. That's where you invest that money (Robertson, Frazier, Cabrera, etc.) you can't spend internationally or on Otani...best system, should also supplement with best developmental staff. Chris Getz is still pretty inexperienced to be in charge of all that talent.

QUOTE (kwill @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 09:55 PM) It is really interesting looking at it from the Yankees side of it now having 4 really great relievers for the next 1.5 years. It could very well be the best bullpen in the modern era beating out the Wagner, Dotel, and Lidge trio. Holland, Davis, Herrera, Hochevar, Madson, Blanton...

QUOTE (Lillian @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 09:45 PM) You guys know how important I think it is to have a balanced lineup of right and left handed hitters. The 2020 team could very well have the following guys at the top 2/3 of the lineup: Moncada, Robert, Jimenez, Burger, Collins and Rutherford. That provides two left handed hitters and a switch hitter. That would finally provide, what has been an elusive balance to the order. They could be staggered left, right, left, right, left, right, which would make it tough on opposing pitchers and managers. I'm not sure where Anderson will hit, but if he can't learn to take his walks, I suspect he'll not be in that top 2/3 of the order. Of course we don't know who else will be added from the draft, or free agency, but all of the players I listed are very likely to be part of that 2020 team. I like it. Don't forget Adolfo and Sheets...

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 09:30 PM) Also, consider the GM's Hahn is working with. Cashman is still the longest tenured GM in the game and simply does not lose deals. He has no issues with missing out on a guy because he can always find another, and always has been able to. Theo has been one of the most aggressive GMs in his career, but he's skilled at picking up players at their lowest value and maximizing that, thus allowing him to spend excessively otherwise. Rizzo is just weird. Cashman is a tough mofo to deal with. I'm not upset, but won't necessarily say I'm happy. Will have to let it sink in. Contreras for Loaiza? Not protecting Q? Two pretty significant mistakes.

Let's not forget how much money we're saving on Robertson's deal that had zero value to the Sox. That $20 million or so can be put to a lot of productive uses. Clippard gets hot and we can turn around and flip him with Swarzak/Jennings or Leury/Saladino/Yolmer to complete a bench for a playoff team.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 09:09 PM) I guess Andrew Miller went from some bum who couldn't figure anything out to a guy who turned into the best reliever in the game overnight. Not like a slight mechanical tweak could make that difference. Oh, and Jake Arrieta, he was just some back of the rotation fodder to Cy Young winner with what amounted to a slight mechanical tweak. Hell, let's go back 12 years. The White Sox claimed a fireball pitcher off waivers named Bobby Jenks. He worked with Coop a bit in Spring Training, converted to a reliever, and closed out the most important game in White Sox history in 88 years. No, a slight mechanical tweak doesn't mean s***. Or Jose Contreras...or Matt Thornton. The question is how well Kanhle handles the Bronx pressure cooker.

MLB.com's Mark Feinsand hears that Tyler Clippard might be moving to the White Sox. He's included in the nearly-completed trade sending Todd Frazier, David Robertson, and Tommy Kahnle to New York. It would mostly be a salary offset, as Clippard is a 32-year-old impending free agent making $6.15 million and the White Sox are trying to stack young talent. Clippard has a 4.95 ERA, 1.29 WHIP, and 42/19 K/BB ratio in 36 1/3 innings this season out of the Yankees' bullpen. Jul 18 - 10:34 PM

I have a feeling everything will be pinned on Manafort, Stone, Page...someone the admin no longer has any investment in, already fired/disgraced, etc. Flynn will be pardoned as an "American Hero/Patriot." Civilians, though....beware.

QUOTE (JenksIsMyHero @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 08:42 AM) I'd be curious to see what the question was. There's a difference IMO between people believing that Trump Jr. met with a Russian citizen versus "Russia" or an agent of Russia. Do we know if those Russians in the meeting were agents speaking on behalf of the Putin? Do you really think Putin would expose himself to that type of liability....you can implicitly intimate that the meeting has his blessing, without an explicit admission of his direct involvement. It's the way he and Trump are always covered and underlings can be sacrificed to take the follow and insulate the top dogs. Eventually, they'll have to pick a fall guy (would love it to be Kushner, but unlikely) and pardon most of the others. Everyone gets away without any consequences, that won't play in the media with how long this story has stretched...and it certainly will have legs into 2018 and the November elections. Dems get control of the House again, it will be even more fireworks.

Will we see Reynaldo Lopez in Chicago this year?
caulfield12 replied to KnightsOnMintSt's topic in FutureSox Board
Seems to be a on a bit of a roll right now. Reward him. Let's not pull another Fulmer with him...timing/momentum are important for young pitchers. -
Anderson based on his play this year at the major league level or based on projections coming out of 2013/14/15? Because there's no way he's that low going by the latter criteria. He'd be closer to 5/6/7 IMO, because of his premium position, athleticism and "off the chart" projections.

I didn't even go for the entertainment value so much as "supporting the team" and of course it will be more watchable again with guys like Moncada and Lopez/Fulmer to liven things up a bit and stir debate about the rebuild's eventual path to success (or not). (Otoh, currently reading Pessah's THE GAME makes me NOT want to put any more money in JR's pockets.)

Super-compelling poll questions of the day

Saw one Moncada #10 jersey in the LF bleachers Sat night... -
QUOTE (WBWSF @ Jul 18, 2017 -> 07:00 AM) 1) I read in todays Sun Times that the team is not expecting much in return for Frazier and Robertson after they're traded. You have to see how this plays out but I don't doubt that we will receive next to nothing for them. This only confirms to me that this isn't a rebuild. Its simply a salary dump by JR. I figure by Opening Day 2019 the team will have a payroll of somewhere around $30 million. Considering that the team grosses over $260 million every year, JR is looking at making more serious money. This team will be so bad by then I wouldn't be surprised to see the team have a Turn Back The Clock day with the players dressed in the uniforms of the St. Louis Browns.Hopefully sometime around 2019 this team will have new ownership in place to turn around this train wreck of a franchise. 2) I've always been a fan of Hawk Harrelson as a announcer. I wish this was his last season. It's time for him to go. One of his constant remarks the last 2 seasons is that JR is not going to let the Cubs take over the city. After this Quintana trade I wonder if he's going to use that same comment. The sporting goods stores at I-88 and Fashion Outlet by the TriState and OHare didn't have a single White Sox item. Only the Nike stores. It was insane how many different Majestic Cubs jerseys they had for sale...

Plus they can market Melky Cabrera and relievers as well to all those NL teams looking for corner outfielders....

Q traded to Cubs/Jimenez, Cease ++ to Sox
caulfield12 replied to Sleepy Harold's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Jul 17, 2017 -> 05:48 PM) I'm cautiously optimistic with the return for Quintana. I still can't shake the belief that Hahn could've/should've held out for one of Happ/Candelario/Scwarber as the third piece in the deal. I have no problem with Jimenez and Cease as prospects but I can't be ecstatic over getting two single A level players for Q, a still young, left handed pitcher proven to be one of the best starting pitchers in the majors over the past several years who is under a very reasonable contract for three more years. Cautiously optimistic over their potential, yes, but not ecstatic. When they're offering Schwarber plus for Fulmer? Fulmer's arguably worth the same or even more than Q. The left handedness makes to close to equal. Happ would never have been available for anyone other than Archer, who used to be their property once upon a time. If Q had a 2.75-3.25 era, sure, maybe you can dream that big. Not at 4.49.
