Nationals acquire Doolittle/Madson from As

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Jul 5, 2017 -> 02:38 PM) I still think a Robertson/Swarzak package makes a ton of sense for Washington. Swarzak won't bring back a ton on his own, but as a sweetener it might convince Rizzo to give up a Soto or Kieboom as part of a package. IMO, the Nationals need to add at least two bullpen arms and there is value to be had by leveraging one team (in this case the Sox) to fill all their bullpen needs. Plus, Albers and Turner have done surprisingly well for them...additional anecdotal evidence for the AL is much tougher than the NL argument. -

Man, we really helped put Betances in a slump. Looks as likely a landing spot for Robertson as any at this point... -
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 5, 2017 -> 08:52 AM) The state has a ton of systemic problems that the Illinois Dems don't want to acknowledge. They would rather keep spending taxpayer money versus fixing them. As opposed to the supposed austerity-driven Republican Congress, that wants to increase defense spending at least 10% without having any noteworthy (non hidden) plan almost half a year in for what to do about Russia, North Korea, Iran, ISIS, etc. 0r do you remember when Bush was printing money for the unfunded Medicare B handout? The Republicans want to give away tax revenues in order to force the middle class to bear a bigger burden while the 1%ers are lining their pockets and vacationing in the Caymans.

Semien was 2.5 fWAR last year, 17th out of 30, Anderson was 2.4 and 18th. $20 million per year value on the free agent market. Thompson ended up at just 0.4. -

Where would Tatis rank in our current Top Ten? The worst part is SS/3B is one of our biggest areas of need if Burger and Tim Anderson can't stick at those positions defensively. Still think with that size he eventually ends up over at third like his dad. Would have been almost like getting Devers, too...one way to look at it. That said, it proves we at least successfully identified a very young Latin American prospect. But then turn around and underestimate their value, especially with Preller, the biggest expert on Latin American ballplayers out there. Just the initial ask should have been a huge red flag. But let's see how he handles Advanced A ball before putting him in that elite prospect status just yet. -
Is the American Dream still attainable?

https://www.yahoo.com/news/canada-compensat...-155138676.html The Canadian one certainly is....ex Gitmo prisoner receives $7 million settlement from the Canadian government. "Meet Canada's newest multi-millionaire – Omar Khadr," said the Conservatives as they unveiled a protest petition. Tony Clement, the Conservative Party's public safety spokesman, said "it is one thing to acknowledge alleged mistreatment, but it is wrong to lavishly reward a convicted terrorist who murdered an allied soldier who had a wife and two children". Khadr spent a decade in Guantanamo before being returned to Canada in 2012 to serve the rest of his sentence. He was released on bail in 2015 and lives in Edmonton, Alberta. The Canadian government and Khadr's lawyers agreed on the compensation deal, said the sources, who asked to remain anonymous given the sensitivity. Canada has reached a series of expensive settlements with citizens imprisoned abroad who alleged Ottawa was complicit in their mistreatment. -

https://www.c-span.org/video/?430879-3/wash...m&start=431 Starts at 7 minute mark. What, if any, should be the government's role in protecting/ensuring the American Dream? Do African Americans have an equal opportunity to achieve it?

Will Rick Hahn still be the general manager the next time the White Sox make it back to the playoffs? Who get there first, the Mariners, Padres or Sox (only two teams with longer droughts of no post season play)???
-
Bubba Starling had 478 and now 687 ops numbers the last two go-arounds in AAA. No thanks. 30% k rate, only 20 walks in 400+ at bats and just 8 homers. No, no, no. At any rate, the Royals and Twins could really use some help, but that's even more illogical than dealing with the Cubs unless you're talking guys like Frazier, Cabrera, Swarzak and perhaps Robertson (a lot of money would have to change hands and a big time prospect would have to go to the Sox in return since those clubs are financially strapped.)

http://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=...=&players=0 Still 21st in fWAR, last debacle including two runs on the Lucroy blooper against Swarzak didn't hurt him that much. 4.07 fip, 4.21 xfip For the moment, no way the Royals trade everyone just 1 1/2 gb and tied with the Twins....so Vargas and Moustakas and Herrera being unavailable helps Q, Frazier and Robertson to a large extent. Shark is expensive and more of a 3 than a 2, at his best. The wild card here continues to be Yu Darvish as an impending FA, and Verlander for rich teams who'd rather take on a big contract than lose top prospects.

47 Meters Down 3.25 stars After the Storm (Japanese) 3.75 War Machine (Brad Pitt channeling Gen. Stanley McChrystal/Rolling Stone interview) 4/4. Excellent.

Kanhle's value has dipped from our perception of peak...so unless they're 100% sold on Burdi and Jones making it back, feel like they're going to roll the dice and hold onto without an overpay (which invariably goes to the veteran/experienced guy in these situations.)
-
Saladino out of game already. Lopez looks like the best bet for first starter up.
-
Concentrating on offense? We're good at rationalizing lots of performance issues. Everyone is rushed, unless they're not, like Hansen or Dunning. Kopech really scuffling these past few starts. Dead arm? Innings limit? Going to have to be extra careful with him, maybe skip a start at some point. 5 1 5 2 4 earned runs his last five times out. Only one earned run there due to passed ball. 75 innings now. On pace for 125ish. Overall, ip/h and k numbers are great, but 49 walks and all those wild pitches.

Why all the bunting? And state of team...
caulfield12 replied to caulfield12's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Although unless they're ready to give Leury everyday CF play, Yoan's value is highest in CF. That said, Engel and Leury are miles ahead of Moncada now (defensively), and elite defense from him is hard to project. Maybe he won't have good instincts/quick jumps/proper routes. Seems injury risk in CF is higher as well. -
The same thing happened last year in May and June with our pen after being overworked and difficult schedule with few offdays...Albers has held up much better this year.
-
QUOTE (SoxAce @ Jul 4, 2017 -> 04:53 PM) Error #11 for Moncada. And CS #5.

Yeah, Kanhle's FB was definitely 1-2 mph slower...were fouling it off rather than swinging through it. Seemed a bit tired, like he was muscling them up to the plate.
-
And it's not about having no right to offer a dissenting opinion... It would be better to have specific player/decision-related arguments rather than a generic template of complaints. Say you believe Luis Robert will be a bust and waste of $50 million and why...this is more typical of GreenSox posts. Nobody is happy when their favorite team is nearly irrelevant. I lived in KC for ten years when Royals fans would wear paper bags over their heads and have mass protests whenever the Yankees came to town...but nothing changed until they started making soundcdraft picks and shrewd trades. But it's not like David Glass felt any pressure to sell the team when profitability as well as franchise value were skyrocketing.

QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Jul 4, 2017 -> 06:59 AM) This thread is about team attendance, and therefore the spectrum of opinion can and should be expected to cover a wide range of views. From the excitement of following players this year like Avi, Jose, Yolmer, Kahnle, etc., who have given some reason to pay attention to this last place team, all the way to the frustration with an owner and his management team who have now brought us the fifth summer in a row of completely meaningless baseball in the middle of the summer. A thread like this will cover the whole gamete. To give this some further context, we the fans have not had a reason to get truly excited about a competitive White Sox team since Obama's first term, and the team has not made it to the postseason since George W.'s second term. There's your reason for the "doomsday" posts. Fix that and those posts go away, or at least decrease dramatically. Tigers, gamut
