  1. Another nice comeback win in the last week...nice weather, lively ballpark, Robertson got the save.
  2. Anderson should be sitting dead red against Frieri but caught in between...like he couldn't believe it was a fastball when that's pretty much all he threw. And if Giolito and Fulmer are going to end up struggling, and we can't be sure about Rodon taking the next step...keeping Q wouldn't be the worst thing, the old he has more value to the Sox argument. With Kopech, Hansen, Lopez, Dunning and Guerrero, at least two of those five need to make it. Minimum.
  3. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 2, 2017 -> 02:26 PM) I disagree. I get they weren't exactly barreling him up but he also doesn't record outs. He just wastes pitch after pitch after pitch and then walks guys. He can't put anyone away. This isn't anything new. He's a great pitcher when things go well. When he has to pitch out of the stretch, he's a completely different guy. The problem is he has no way to get a FB past Beltre, so he tries to get cute and basically hopes for a trick K with offspeed stuff, but no conviction behind it. Then pitching out of the stretch takes a couple mph off his FB. Still think Swarzak draws some interest.
  4. Davidson below 800 ops now...he, Avi and SANCHEZ all sliding. Leury out, Anderson scuffling as well. The veterans and Smith are carrying the offense, as it is.
  5. Dammit....0-2 count, to boot. Back up to a 4.45 era. 6 hits, two walks in 4.3 ip.
  6. Renteria obviously didn't think Q was confident against Napoli...makes sense. He was starting to nibble and hesitating about what pitches to throw there with Smith.
  7. This team would be 2-4 games under .500 with a real defense...going by rs/ra, we actually should be much better.
  8. http://www.milb.com/scoreboard/index.jsp?s...mp;ymd=20170702 Moncada sitting. Giolito going backwards again...hasn't quite 100% turned the corner. Small steps?
  9. We still think defense doesn't matter at all? Two unearned runs already, God knows how many extra/high stress pitches. Luckily, they can't charge a run to Jose for not backing up third there. Ugly.
  10. One reason for low road attendance....9/10 game per year times two are in Minnesota and Cleveland. 1/4th of their road schedule is two of the bottom dwellers in attendance, and KC is already down quite a bit from last year. So 3/8th's of schedule, compared to other divisions in baseball that only have 1-2 poorly attended teams grouped together.
  11. https://sports.yahoo.com/starting-pitcher-s...-091610868.html Q ranked 17th/18th in fantasy value. Just a bit ahead of his fWAR, which is in the low 20's. $36 Max Scherzer $35 Clayton Kershaw $33 Chris Sale $31 Corey Kluber $28 Carlos Martinez $28 Stephen Strasburg $26 Zack Greinke $25 Lance McCullers *$25 Yu Darvish $24 Robbie Ray $22 Jacob deGrom $21 Jose Berrios $20 Alex Wood $20 Luis Severino $20 Carlos Carrasco $20 Marcus Stroman $18 Jimmy Nelson *$18 Jeff Samardzija $18 Michael Fulmer $18 Jon Lester *$18 Chris Archer $17 James Paxton *$17 Jose Quintana *$16 Johnny Cueto *$16 Justin Verlander $15 J.A. 12. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 2, 2017 -> 12:10 AM) Holland and Pelphrey and Miguel are worthless on the trade market, Lip. You shoulda known that before. They are just bodies that should be in the independent league. They are as tradeable as Humber was. Melky is a lovable clown. Nobody would give up a set of resin bags for him. Ditto Frazier. We get something for Q and Robertson. That's it, folks. Sox have such a bad baseball team. It's hard to be this bad record wise in the day of parity. Anderson needs to be sent down the rest of the year. He can't hit and he can't field. And get him off ss. Put him in LF if you are unwilling to take my advice and make him a catcher. Todd Frazier is basically average, 17th out of the 30 who have 300+ at bats. 1.1 war. Unless the Pirates trade Harrison, the Reds deal Suarez or the Royals trade Moustakas (unlikely now), he's the best on the market and he doesn't have a big contract. Manny Machado is 16th. Bergman 23rd, Davidson 25th. You're closer to right about Melky (33/34, Alex Gordon is 34th), that will be a pure salary dump...as with Holland and Shields if they can find takers.
  13. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Jul 1, 2017 -> 05:33 PM) I had really hoped that Holland could show enough to be traded for a decent future prospect at the deadline but alas he's pretty bad. Just can't see anyone desperate enough to give anything decent in return for him. Regarding Anderson...19 errors now (look out Alan bannister who at least could hit) and hitting .240's. It may not be a bad idea to send him down for a few weeks to take the load off his mind and let him work on the basics. The contract he signed seems to have really put pressure of him. Sox maybe should have waited a year or two. Swanson has 16.
  14. Schwarber has a two homer game already... 7/19, 1.113 ops.
  15. Is he a productive hitter at given K rate? Obviously for the level he's at, the answer is yes. The next two levels up will be the real challenge. Where Hawkins and Mitchell essentially hit a brick wall.
  16. https://www.milb.com/milb/news/houston-astr...mes/c-239861954 Astros' Paulino suspended for 80 games, PEDs. Boldenone. Dash bullpen blew 5-0 lead and Hansen's win... Fulmer start about to begin after rain delay.
  17. http://www.cnn.com/videos/politics/2017/06...-orig-vstan.cnn But we can't talk in a confrontational way or criticize the new healthcare bill because it's insensitive to do so in the wake of Steve Scalise almost being killed, according to Paul Ryan... This is only going to provoke MORE violence, which is EXACTLY what leadership wants...because it leads to even more fundraising success. But kudos to SOME members for speaking out and saying "this is not who we are." Meanwhile, US deaths by police gunfire for 2017 expected to eclipse CUMULATIVE total from 2014/15/16... https://www.yahoo.com/news/u-deaths-police-...-201616742.html
  18. Sarah Huckabee Sanders Suggests Chicago Has Crime Problems Because Of ‘Morality' https://www.yahoo.com/news/sarah-huckabee-s...-202855606.html
  19. Top of AL Central race tightening...keeping Vargas, Moustakas, Hosmer and Herrera off the market really benefits the Sox, especially Frazier and Q.
  20. So basically a Daniel Murphy type of player...? Or Hiura in the recent draft? Has anyone actually watched him play on milb.com?
  21. Josue Guerrero finally got his average over up over .200. Robert 0/1 with a k, game suspended early.
  22. That's why Cabrera is one of the worst defenders in baseball...
  23. QUOTE (Two-Gun Pete @ Jul 1, 2017 -> 10:09 AM) Look, I leave open the door for Adolfo, IF he can drop the K-rate. I just reserve the right to not count on a K machine in Low A. I can't believe this is so controversial to some. I'm interested in having good players in the system, so that they can make the Big club good one day. Take away the kid's name, & his signing bonus for a second: Would you get as butt-hurt about a hypothetical 4th year player in low A with Adolfo's disappointing track record being called a "suspect?" You can't teach tools or raw power...it's like the former pitching phenom who gets opportunities with seven different organizations because he can touch 99. There will always be 95% of prospects who have to prove themselves every year, and that other 5% that every scout keeps waiting on that long-expected breakout.
  24. QUOTE (Two-Gun Pete @ Jul 1, 2017 -> 09:34 AM) I don't disagree that his injuries have let others pass him in a theoretical depth chart. But, given that at least one OFer in the MLB roster (Melky) WILL be gone before year's end, & perhaps 2 or more might be gone as well, having depth matters. After all, they'll still need to field a team. But, once you get past the OFers already in Chicago, it's not as though there are any prospects to block. Basabe probably struck out again as I was typing this. Call has been just as injured as Tilson this year. Fisher's still in high A. Adolfo's numbers are in free-fall, as his Babip drops and the Ks pile up in low A. Robert is still n the DR. So yeah, Tilson may never make it, but then again, most of us wanted Leury gone before this season, too. We'll see. http://www.milb.com/player/index.jsp?sid=m...itting/2017/ALL Where do you get that idea about Adolfo's numbers...trending up for the past month. Also has five walks in his last ten games. Tilson, if 100% healthy, is Pods lite at a time and place when the homer reigns supreme again. If healthy.
  25. QUOTE (Two-Gun Pete @ Jul 1, 2017 -> 08:38 AM) I get that we're all disappointed in him being seemingly perpetually injured. But before you advocate cutting him, let's think about how many "ready" or "near-ready" OF options there are in the system. Also, let's think about exactly WHO is he blocking right now? And lastly, given that we should hope that Melky will be moved for prospects, and (perhaps) Avi may be moved before he turns back into Avi, OF prospect depth may matter more than you'd think right now. Sucks for the kid that he's injured. But again, who is he blocking right now? Leury, Engel, Hanson, W. Garcia are all ahead of him, even May. Then you have the possibility of Moncada or Anderson. He's not going to be cut, but his odds of making it with the Sox now are pretty much infinitesimal.
