Devenski makes no sense because: 1) We already have Fulmer, Burdi, Stephens, Hansen and Adams for those innings (now and in the future). (Or Shields). 2) Taking him back would make the White Sox look a bit like they made a mistake in the first place. 3) You gamble on position players with higher ceilings/bust rates at the lower levels of the minors before trading for players on the major league roster that you're more than likely just going to try to flip anyway. -

And don't take Tyler White back instead of Reed. That would be good bargaining. -

2016-17 free agency thread (NON WHITE SOX RELATED)

Walker still has a ton of upside, but it's in the same erratic/inconsistent way that Rodon does... Imagine if we got that return for, let's say, Rodon and Frazier (or Saladino), would anyone be happy? Segura was almost a non-tender guy last offseason and had a huge bounceback year, but can you count on that if you look at his numbers year by year? -

Yeah, if you can get huge offensive production at 3B, 2B, C or CF, you're still much better off. SS as well, obviously. Looking at some of the AL DH numbers this last season, you can almost say that about a hitting-only position as well, crazily enough. -

QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Nov 23, 2016 -> 08:40 PM) Sale and Frazier for Bregman, Martes, Reed, Paulino, Cameron, and Stubbs I think that trade helps both franchises out a lot. Only if they're convinced Gurriel can't play 3B competently. One would think they would want to diversify their offense away from high K, high homer but mostly lower OBP guys. That's not the type of offense that's going to successfully manufacture runs in the postseason, after you get through Altuve and Correa. Sure, they might all get hot at the same time, but the odds of that happening against elite pitching aren't that substantial. -

Yeah, the whole idea of trading your two best pitchers and then plugging in the holes with Springer and JBJr. (for example) and competing "on the fly" would just require way too much going right with the remaining pitching staff. It would require bullpen repairs (costly) as well. That would leave a rotation of Rodon, Gonzalez, Shields, Fulmer and ?????. You basically have to hope breaking those established major leaguers into 2-3 prospects (depending on their Top 100 ranking) gives you AT LEAST two 3-4+ WAR players back, and improves the overall depth/quality of your team. You can argue back and forth about which is more valuable, a 3 WAR CF and a 3 WAR 2B or C, but you're always going to be generally better off having a solid line-up 1-9 than 2-3 superstar players and 5-6 stiffs. -
If he HATED Jewish people, he wouldn't have allowed Ivanka to marry Jared Kushner, especially with a criminal probe hanging over Kushner's father in NJ. Netanyahu apparently prefers to work with Trump. In fact, between Putin and Netanyahu (I guess you can add Duterte now as well), those are the three foreign leaders most outspoken about disliking Obama and US foreign policy in the last 2-3 years. Of course, when you make flippant statements about preferring for them to count your money (compared to African-Americans) or that your son-in-law is somehow qualified to mediate the Israeli/Palestinian conflict simply because he has a high EQ and is also Jewish is dubious at best. https://www.yahoo.com/news/clinton-leads-tr...-184044245.html Clinton up by more than 2 million votes now in the popular vote, almost 4X the spread as Gore over Bush in 2000

If Springer was a Gold Glove caliber CFer, or the equivalent of Heyward on the corners...it would be Springer and a tier B prospect for Sale (because Sale will actually be cheaper). Of course, Springer isn't that type of defender. But getting both Bregman and Springer for Sale is probably unrealistic...that's where you have to throw in another player like Frazier or Jones and go after guys like high ceiling but 2-3 years from the big leagues prospects like Tucker/Cameron. -

Yeah, Springer is like the JBJr. Debate all over again...would be shocking if Astros dealt him. -

Buying low on Cameron as the fourth piece would be huge too...but might be overreaching with those top three. Two simultaneous supertrades with the consolation prize of Quintana going to the loser for Sale? -

Gonzalez/Gurriel/Reed/Gattis/McCann/T.White=no need for Abreu Buying low/er on Reed unless he's deemed fatally flawed makes sense, but you obviously need Bregman. Springer going to the Sox makes a lot less sense. He's their best outfielder. Like the Red Sox dealing Bradley or Betts. -

QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Nov 23, 2016 -> 11:46 AM) The media oversaturating a small yearly gathering of neonazis is deplorable. There's only one reason to give all this airtime to a few hundred hateful idiots. Only one reason. And that makes me really really sad. Everyone's job on Earth is to help out their fellow man. People are probably going to end up getting hurt because of this false narrative. That really sucks. Trying to divide people and cause rifts? f***ing stop it already, people buy into this s***, even people claiming to be smart. http://www.cnn.com/2016/11/23/opinions/chr...-era/index.html You're not going to like it one bit, but reading this article will give you a pretty good idea of what to expect during the next four years from the media. Her voice carries a lot of weight, especially with female writers. And she probably has the ear of more foreign leaders than Trump by a factor of 3-4x. http://finance.yahoo.com/news/trump-tv-qui...-145321398.html Trump TV quietly launches. Wait until they start getting paid advertisers and every liberal reporters starts digging into favorable government treatment, access/meetings with Breitbart/Kushner or the admin, booking at the Trump Intl Hotel in DC, etc. Let's not forget, Trump recently opined Jared Kushner can resolve/mediate the Israel/Palestinean crisis because he is Jewish...and moving the Israeli embassy to Jerusalem won't ruffle any feathers, either. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_DeVos I'm going to take a guess that we don't want to model our education system on a charter school version of Amway. http://www.cnn.com/2016/11/23/politics/bet...tary/index.html Trump can't even decide which position he has on Common Core he's flip flopped so many times

QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 23, 2016 -> 02:12 PM) That seems like such a bad move for Haley. Admin jobs just aren't much of a way of career booster when already an executive position. It might be the most important position of all. Convincing the rest of the world for the next four years not to go to war with us. More high profile and foreign policy experience accumulation (weak spot on her resume) than serving as a rural southern state governor. Plus, India becomes even more important as a counterweight/hedge against China and Russia.

Evolution of "high leverage" relievers....

QUOTE (soxforlife05 @ Nov 23, 2016 -> 12:38 AM) I'd rather Shields be that guy. Fulmer should be starting if he's good enough to hang at the major league level. Possible, but VERY long odds. Worth a shot if he continues to struggle in the rotation so we can salvage some type of return or lessen money going the other direction by 25%. -

http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/1803278...as-game-changer Skip halfway through the article, past where the Cubs have changed the face of the world itself... http://www.espn.com/mlb/story/_/id/1803278...as-game-changer Clubs not seeking longer relief in 2017 (but they're definitely thinking about it) This would be an area the White Sox are going to have a lot of freedom to experiment with in 2017, particularly if they hold onto Robertson until at least July. Can Nate Jones go multiple innings, in terms of his health? This would seem to be, at best, questionable. Burdi? He's still being looked at some as a starter, so why not let him be the long man and eventually go into that Joel Zumaya/Miller "high leverage from 5th-8th inning guy" who goes multiple innings? See how his stamina and repertoire of pitches hold up. Petricka's coming off an injury as well, so you can probably cross him off the list. In terms of the minor leagues, a couple of guys who might thrive in that role would be Jordan Stephens and Spencer Adams. Hansen's another name to watch, as well. Then there's Carson Fulmer. So if we're rebuilding, we might as well try to build up our own cache of "high value" relievers, right? Obviously, you would RATHER have them make it as starters, but this seems like the best alternative. Bullpen depth/quality after the top 3-4 guys last year was one of the biggest issues for the White Sox (and your 3/4/5 guys going down to injury/ineffectiveness/overuse). In theory, instead of pitching your 12th/13th guys 50 innings or so, you can spread the load amongst 2-3 "high leverage" guys like Burdi, Fulmer, Stephens, Adams or Hansen. That would improve the overall bullpen results by, let's say, 10-15%, conservatively.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Nov 22, 2016 -> 07:19 PM) I'm pretty sure she has legitimate brain damage iirc Maybe it won't be clinically diagnosed for another generation, but all this fascination with social media/fame/attention has to be connected. She might have drug/substance abuse injuries that damaged her brain, but the root or endemic problem is almost always related to self-esteem combined with the loss of attention/fame causing one to go in a downward spiral. It's really not so unusual, we see it in the sports and entertainment field all the time. https://www.yahoo.com/news/the-angry-white-...-223547456.html Hearing out the ANGRY WHITE MAN next door http://sports.yahoo.com/news/trump-support...zlfMQRzZWMDc2M- Trump Supporters Are Protesting "Anti-White Discrimination" at Starbucks by....Buying More Starbucks
