Chris Getz to take over player development
caulfield12 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Or that other teams are trying to copy the Royals/Braves model of Schuerholz and Dayton Moore. Hostetler and Getz both have connections to it. So does Buddy Bell. -
QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 16, 2016 -> 09:38 PM) Clinton was fed answers in debate. She has media in hip pocket. She communicated with high ranking officials helping her in email case. She blasted Catholics. 1.8 million bucks for a few speeches. Crooked.Hillary.IMO. Greg, you're just digging yourself a deeper hole. Once you go down that rabbit hole for too long, you might never come out again.

Darin Erstad must be coming next as the "grindy" baserunning coach. Or Mark Kotsay... -
Chris Getz to take over player development
caulfield12 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
It's amusing that less than two years ago that article opined his future "ceiling" might be a roving instructor in the minor leagues (if he didn't become a manager), and here he already is IN CHARGE OF ALL ROVING INSTRUCTORS, as well helping to implement pitching, hitting and defensive strategies of a system-wide basis. Looks like the White Sox are the best team for former players to come to for a promotion!! Unfortunately, arguably the best instructional coach of all the former Sox players, Rusty Kuntz, never found his way back to Chicago. -
Chris Getz to take over player development

http://kingsofkauffman.com/2014/11/21/chri...turning-royals/ This is the original argument for why the Royals hired him... When Chris Getz decided to call it a career last summer, retiring after the Toronto Blue Jays sought to send him back to AAA. It was expected that, almost the moment that Getz retired, Dayton Moore would be on the phone, talking to him about a role somewhere within the organization. After all, that scrappy little player who built a major league career despite not having any close to elite skills could end up as a solid coach or manager some day. Sure enough, the Royals did come calling. And now, Getz is back in the organization, accepting a job to be a part of the Royals player personnel and development department. “They offered me a position that was ideal and would expose me to the other side of the game, in all areas,” Getz said. This position certainly appears as though it would be perfect for Chris Getz. Not blessed with the most skill or blazing speed or the ability to drive the ball for any real power, Getz still managed to post a career a .250/.307/.305 batting line, stealing 89 bases in 107 attempts. Getz was, pure and simple, a ball player who played the game hard and played the right way. It may be that Getz will be able to impart that hard work and dedication to the Royals minor leaguers. Even if they are not the most naturally talented players in the system or on the team, they can look at Getz and see that he had a major league career. In turn, Getz can teach the minor leaguers to play the game the right way. Chris Getz, during his career, appeared to be the type of player who could be a future coach or manager, or perhaps a roving instructor in the minor leagues. Now, Getz is fulfilling that destiny. I guess this makes sense, if you're looking at the "new type of hitters" that were drafted in 2016 under Hostetler...with the concentration or focus on getting "already productive/refined players" rather than raw talents with potential. The concern is that all of the players in the current system, other than this draft class...were selected more in the "athletic talent who could be great or totally flop" system that saw us drafting Thompson, Anderson and Hawkins, among others. So who's going to work with those players, the Micker Adolfo's, Hawkinses or Keon Barnum's of the world?? And yeah, this is the type of position that TYPICALLY someone has at least 5 years or more of minor league experience, but 10-15 years and above is more the norm. -
QUOTE (Deadpool @ Oct 15, 2016 -> 10:00 PM) The post of the year is "Cleveland won the NBA championship, so the Cubs or Indians will win the World Series." I would expect nothing less. I bet if you did a survey, 90% of Cubs' fans continue to believe in the curse and history. It was the first thing Charlie Steiner mentioned when Gonzalez hit that tying single up the middle, or Jon Miller when the Cubs seemed to be blowing the series in the 4th game of the Giants' series. Run from it all you want...but it won't disappear until they manage to win it all.

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Oct 15, 2016 -> 09:36 PM) And when did Blanton become the go to pitcher in the 8th inning of a tie game? Look at his numbers the last 2-3 months and into the post-season. Look at the number of pitches thrown by Dodgers relievers two days ago. Walking Heyward is the one that just doesn't make much sense. You go after him or bring in Drayton there. Roberts got too cute trying to outmanage Maddon.
-
Indians/Cubs was predictable as soon as the Cavs won. History has a way of creating just these sorts of match-ups of two long-suffering franchises. Hopefully it comes down to Miller vs. Chapman. The best reliever will win out over the hardest thrower.

Jesus=Peace and Justice, Social Gospels, etc. How that would equate to it being a sin to vote for a Catholic is beyond me...see the election of John Kennedy in 1960. Besides the fact that the Republicans being "pro" death penalty runs just as strongly against Catholic doctrine. Sinners, tax collectors and money changers, prostitutes=99% Donald Trump and family=Top 1% If Trump has more "faith" than Obama and the Clintons, it would be extremely hard to make that case.

QUOTE (iWin4Ron @ Oct 15, 2016 -> 08:42 PM) Posts: 44,492 Cubs bullpen should be able to finish the job from here. Dodgers hitting is extremely weak. But none on a Cubs board...it has never occurred to me to think that would be enjoyable.

QUOTE (iWin4Ron @ Oct 15, 2016 -> 08:13 PM) Why are there 12 guests watching this thread? Sign up yall and talk . Since you and Deadpool are the only ones openly rooting for the Cubs but occasionally attempting to disguise it...good luck finding more Cubs fans who want to exert the effort of pretending not to care while posting on a Sox board. Surely, there are more productive things to do with your life.

Well, seems the Cubs were wise not to dump Baez after his K prone rookie campaign.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 15, 2016 -> 08:03 PM) He served in the military though. So if he wants to protest, fine. I watched him on youtube saying he loves Colin for his stance cause we all have the right to free speech. I am against kneeling or sitting during the anthem, sure I am. But more than anything I was mad at the fact Colin was putting all the attention on himself in a team sport and I thought that was incredibly selfish and if I were the owner I'd be PISSED. Also I am standing up for the military who treat the anthem with such respect. But you also have to consider that minorities are disproportionately represented in the military. http://www.mintpressnews.com/whos-joining-...targeted/43418/ There's no such thing as a Captain America-ish or Pat Tillman super patriotic soldier being the norm for all. Many African-American soldiers come from those same exact neighborhoods that have witnessed numerous racial profiling incidents as well as police shootings. When you have to compete with the likes of Donald Trump and the Kardashians for media coverage, simply organizing community marches and local protests simply doesn't move the bar anymore. Taking a knee is much more respectful than flag burning, for example.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 15, 2016 -> 01:25 PM) Don't mean to fight. But I'll get this straight. If my post is about a Democrat (Hillary) but is negative or extremely negative, I should put it in the Republican thread. But if a post is about a Republican (Trump) and is negative, put it in the Republican thread or the Democrat thread cause there are posts in here about how bad Trump is too. I think I've got it down pat. Just trying to figure out the rules and stay out of trouble on here. Greg, how can you actually be for Jesse Ventura when he stated he would never stand for the playing of the national anthem again? He claimed in 2011 that would raise his fist in the air ala Smith and Carlos in the 1968 Olympics. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jesse_Ventura See third paragraph, political criticisms.

QUOTE (bmags @ Oct 15, 2016 -> 07:39 AM) Remember when it was kind of funny when trump was running? That ended. http://www.bostonglobe.com/news/politics/2...UdsM/story.html I've never seen an article that felt so close to an Onion satire piece turn out to be so scary...tough/er times lie ahead before these people just go away. Every day, something more and more outlandish. It's starting to sound like the plot from Designated Survivor.

Or the Boston and Steverson as KW spies...between Cooper and the rest of them, the White Sox deserve their own John le Carre or Ian Fleming novel.

The Indians have six OPS+ guys in Napoli, Kipnis, Lindor, Santana, Jose Ramirez and Naquin. Seven if you count Brandon Guyer. Four of those guys totaled 57, 60, 78 and 99 walks (Santana). They also were extremely proficient at stealing bases. Only when you compare to the Blue Jays hitting all those homers (six with 20+)...with that similar offense to the 2000 and 2006 first half White Sox do they come up short.
-
Miller is a huge weapon they were lacking. And the Indians still have Lindor and Kluber...which just might be enough to overcome the losses of Salazar and Carrasco. Good luck AL Central in 2017.
-
Meanwhile, prioritizing scouting and development at both the major league levels paying off for the Indians...it all started with the addition of Francona, the surprising commitment to pay a Top 5 managerial salary for a perennial doormat revenue-wise, HUGE.

See Sarah Palin. Drudge. Coulter. Huckabee. Etc. That's a drop in the bucket. Think how many more followers he already has compared to Limbaugh.

http://mlb.nbcsports.com/2016/10/13/giants...hoo&ref=yfp Giants "fail" to win their fourth consecutive even year World Series, fire 1st and 3rd base coaches.

One positive is the entire Trump family has pretty much been wiped out of a future run as well... Guess we still have the Kanye and Kim ticket to look forward to in 2020, along with George Clooney. Too bad we will never get to see Amal wipe out everyone in a debate due to her citizenship. Theoretically, the next barrier for our country to break will be having a presidential candidate of Muslim/Middle-Eastern roots, especially a woman. Bobby Jindal was the first Indian-American.

Who exactly does the Steverson/Sparks hitting system supposedly point to in terms of organizational or system-wide approach results? Anderson? Saladino? Carlos Sanchez's final month? Leury Garcia? I hope the answer as it is to all things isn't that this year's draft and Hostetler will fix everything that was broken...along with 2-3 future Jeremy Reeds.

QUOTE (JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Oct 13, 2016 -> 07:33 AM) Regardless of whatever else it suggests about Donald Trump’s ethical sensibilities or business acumen, the undisputed revelation that he hasn’t paid income taxes for nearly two decades, by most accounts legally, stands as convincing evidence that we the people don’t really share one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all. Rather, we’ve become at least two nations with distinctive liberties and systems of justice, one for the super-wealthy and a very different one for the rest of us. In one, you can blow a billion dollars on bad investments and inept business decisions and then get the rest of us ordinary tax-payers to absorb this financial hit, while you go on with your lavish lifestyle and benefit from billions more in tax breaks on properties and new ventures. This makes you a genius. In the other, you can get laid off despite years of loyal service and end up with nothing thanks to the whims of those who toy with fortunes, companies, and the countless workers’ lives like pieces on a Monopoly board. The high-rollers will see that your temporarily displaced CEO walks away with $100 million or so as a consolation bonus, but you get nothing, and God help you if you don’t ante up when the IRS comes knocking next April 15th. This makes you a sucker. One of these nations, the one whose arrogance and greed brought it about, has recovered nicely from the collapse of 2008. Not a soul among them served a day of prison time for their shameless deceptions. The other nation, whose taxes funded the bailouts that saved the scammers, still struggles. Most have found work again, but not the pay or job-stability they had before. State officials in Indiana rejoiced this week over news that Indiana ranks among the top ten states with tax-friendly business climates. The congratulatory press releases don’t mention, however, that Indiana also ranks among the lowest states for per capita income, partly because the legislature has passed right to work legislation and other measures that systematically push down wages. Since both the nations within our borders still need roads, clean water, education, and law enforcement, guess who pays for all these by coughing up taxes that businesses we treat like guests don’t have to pay. We have a welfare problem, but it’s hardly the poor who siphon off scandalous sums of our collective wealth. No one is supposed to mention all this, of course, because it sounds like the rhetoric of class conflict. Moreover, trickle-down economics remains a kind of cultural orthodoxy in this country even though it has consistently proved itself flawed and inefficient as Soviet-style communism. Neither takes into account the deep truths of human nature. Nevertheless, people on each side of our divide want a shot at revamping our tax system as a way to address economic problems. Ironically, the loudest applicant currently is Mr. Trump, who says his experience at gaming our tax system longer and more effectively than anyone else makes him the only person who can fix it. However, he has not pledged to close the loopholes that allow him to have the rest of us cover his losses. If you think a fox who has spent his life raiding the chicken coop will suddenly switch to protecting the chickens against his fellow-foxes, well, I have a bridge in Brooklyn I’d like to sell you, and maybe a water carburetor patent, too. We may never again be one nation, indivisible. If we’d like to try, we mustn’t trust in predators, but in people willing to make sacrifices for the good of all. But can't the same argument be made that the Clinton Foundation and access to it as well as the Secretary of State's office was similarly "gamed" by 1 percenters? Isn't it also on the Congresses who enabled real estate developers to get away with legally walking through those loopholes? Wouldn't it be criminally negligent for Trump's tax attorneys not to take advantage to shield his or the company's worth/valuation? Wasn't Marc Rich just as bad, if not worse, arguably...than Trump? The reality is neither side will effectively protect the middle class...it's simply that Democrats will do a slightly better job at it.
