  1. Can't get the feed from here in China to not jump...so this thread has at least been amusing to read, more entertaining at least than the Cubs' boxscore.
  2. Bill Plunkett@billplunkettocr Not sure what they saw/didn't see in NY. But around 54,000 of us in LA thought we saw Gonzalez get his hand on plate before tag applied.
  3. First, Trump. Now the pro-Cubs/t.v. ratings/series must go seven conspiracy. Jesse Rogers@ESPNChiCubs After further review, MLB believes a longer series would be more beneficial for the popularity of the sport. The call stands.
  4. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/chica...1019-story.html In something of a non-shocker, Chris Sale's father is voting for Trump. Automatic win!
  5. Otoh, the Marlins have two more World Series trophies than the Tigers in the past twenty years despite those massive Detroit payrolls...would they rather have a World Series win or Hall of Famer in Cabrera?
  6. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 19, 2016 -> 03:44 PM) Better yet, The Clinton's lecturing people on morals. How did the GOP win 7 out of 9 presidential elections with such an overwhelming right-wing media bias aligned against them? Seems it would be nearly impossible to win for the GOP to ever win again to read these threads. And yet they do just fine in Congressional, Governor's elections, state houses and assemblies, school boards and city council elections. They should all read The Fountainhead again and find a better way to articulate a vision for the country other than obstructionism, tax cuts for the rich and corporations, destroying labor unions and benign indifference about the environment and climate change. Kasich was the only one who even came close to a Reaganesque message of optimism and good will. He barely won his home state primary and lost all others. That's quite telling.
  7. QUOTE (raBBit @ Oct 19, 2016 -> 01:14 PM) The video was released Monday morning. The mainstream media was quiet on it the entire day. Foval got fired and finally Hannity reported it on Monday night. So Hannity really broke down the MSM black out. Then when Creamer had to resign yesterday a lot of people on the right freaking out at all the MSM outlets and their anchors. Finally Jake Tapper covered yesterday afternoon and Cooper, who hasn't been afraid to call HRC on her bs in the past, did cover it too. If the Clinton Campaign didn't do away with Foval and Creamer for damage control I am not sure the MSM would have ever covered the story. The Clinton Campaign can't fire them. That would be illegal, according to Supreme Court interpretation of the current laws governing PACs and soft money contributions.
  8. Newt Gingrich lecturing us on morals...and the hits just keep coming. What next, Rudy Guiliani or George Pataki will claim to have had an affair with Hillary?
  9. Proving points with WSJ or Forbes...good luck with that. Might have something to do with the $5-7 trillion projected deficits Trump will instantly add by himself by providing all top wage earners (including capital gains) an average of a $316,000 tax cut. That's quite convenient for 1%ers and not so much for the lower middle class blue collar workers predominantly supporting him.
  10. QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Oct 19, 2016 -> 01:28 PM) Rabbit if you don't know anyone attached to the Trump campaign, what was the point of this response to NSS? Why would it be worth noting that someone who doesn't know anyone in the Trump campaign at all doesn't know any disgraced official from his campaign? If we went through all the wrongdoings and disgraced officials in the rightwing PACverse...it would stretch all the way around the world. And the fact is that HRC or Huma Abedin would ne vilified for communicating or coordinating with them in any way. That's the way the system was set up to work, and also why the GOP has had so much troubled with coordinated messaging the last three election cycles, with those on the outside exercising different and often contradictory agendas. You have Mark Foley, Ed Klein, Manafort, Ailes, Lewandowski, Christie might be indicted over Bridgegate in NJ, David Duke/KKK, Bannon, Roger Stone, Robert Mercer, Paul Nehlen...the hits just keep coming. http://www.bbc.com/news/election-us-2016-37108732
  11. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 19, 2016 -> 08:30 AM) Yea, im sure every time a trade is made, teams make sure every player traded away wont be good Well, we've heard Don Cooper say similar things for years and years about guys like Nestor Molina, Zach Stewart and Jeff Marquez. If they can also turn Montgomery into a stud, we should be pilfering more coaches from that staff instead of former Sox players.
  12. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Oct 19, 2016 -> 08:04 AM) Crazy how different cubs fans sound today on the score than they did after Game 1. It went from "who starts game 1 against Jays/Indians?" to "Maybe David Ross should start at first over Rizzo, and Almora needs to start the rest of the series" and "Maddon is not as good of a Manager as you think he is" in 4 days The cubs dont need an ace. They have Lester and Hendricks, and the both of them have been dominant. Another cost controlled arm will do them very well, but they may have already aqcuired that in Montgomery(at least it seems that way with how Maddon talked about him the other day) The Cubs need to figure out how to hit in the playoffs, specifically the guys who got them there(rizzo and russell) need to figure it out Don't think the Royals and especially the M's would have dealt him if he was perceived to be a future quality starter. Seattle gave him 18 starts over two seasons but had him in the bullpen for most of this year. He's also had one major injury, think it was TJS.
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 18, 2016 -> 05:40 PM) Wait, no one complains that Gore got hosed? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA Read the third sentence closely. At least Gore, even if you strongly dislike him, put the interests of the country first by gracefully deciding not to push his case any further. We'll see if Trump is willing to do the same.
  14. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 19, 2016 -> 06:22 AM) 96% of all donatations made by journalists have going to Hillary Clinton. https://www.publicintegrity.org/2016/10/17/...n-campaign-cash What about media corporations/conglomerates? Mark Burnett, etc.? Btw, that amount is still not anywhere close if you add them all together to Adelson and the Ricketts Family. Plus, can you imagine many top female executives being on record as donating to Trump? Wouldn't exactly help their businesses in the future...
  15. QUOTE (JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Oct 19, 2016 -> 06:31 AM) Why would they trade Contreras? He's their starting catcher next year. I also don't see them trading Baez or Russell. Soler isn't bringing back anything of value and Schwarber still has a long road ahead. Even if he returns fully healthy, he's a DH which severely limits his trade value. We'll just have to wait and see how well he does playing 120-130 games there...especially from a defensive standpoint. The feedback has been pretty mixed so far?
  16. Between Baez, Contreras, Schwarber, Soler and possibly Russell, they can afford to deal at least two of those guys... If they continue struggling the rest of the series with lefties, there's going to be a temptation to overreact and try to find another RH hitting power bat. Of course, Soler is the obvious odd man out, but he won't bring back much at this point. A lot depends on whether Fowler returns. I'm not sure they want to pay him $17.2 million next year. They can move Heyward back to center, which gives them room for another power bat on the corner but weakens the defense a bit. Schwarber can't be traded until his value is back up and he returns to form from his injury.
  17. Schwarber has nothing to do with their losing this year. It would be quite easy to argue that it gave Baez an opportunity to emerge, and Contreras as well. Not to mention they had Soler there in reserve as well. The odds are greater of a pitching going down next season, and that will have much more of an impact than removing one cog in that offense.
  18. https://www.yahoo.com/news/what-hillary-cli...-193545234.html Would love to hear any Republican (and/or Greg) respond to what's being reported and what it is that you actually find so offensive...this actually sounds a lot like something John McCain, Mitt Romney or Jeb Bush would say. Pretty centrist. https://www.yahoo.com/news/inappropriate-an...-204047397.html Likewise, read the paragraph 3rd from the bottom. Do you really believe this, and you can maintain a straight face when nodding your head? It's called damage control. One thing's for sure, though, Ivanka's brand is selling well still. That might be the ONLY positive to come out of this entire election cycle for the Trump family.
  19. And no J4L, either...Ron is at least maintaining some illusions of being more of a Sox fan while straddling the line with excitement about living in his Wrigleyville environs.
  20. Plus, he's a free agent and it's doubtful the Dodgers are going to pay a fortune to bring him back. Maybe. 98 mph cutter there. 5-0. And 6-0. Can rest their big arm now. Further reinforcing the need for "lockdown" bullpen guys this offseason. That also means Nate Jones and David Robertson at least should get some nibbles. And a certain bar in Curacao will get a lot more business.
  21. Now it makes the decision with going Maeda or Kershaw for Game 5 even more interesting...it feels like you have to go for the jugular with Kershaw, but the Cubs win that game and the Dodgers are back in trouble. That said, Hill is a nice back-up option to have behind Clayton. This also takes a ton of pressure off Urias, and puts it squarely on the Cubs' LH hitters in a nearly must-win Game 4.
  22. This. That whole idea about finding the "next big thing" or a market niche to be exploited. The Royals created that idea of loading up the back of the bullpen. Everyone copied it and now 7th and 8th inning set-up guys (Giles/Miller/Herrera, etc.) are becoming just as valuable as the traditional 30/100 everyday players because of specialization. If Getz was presenting some type of "grand vision" for changing the way the organization does things, that would be one thing. Kapler came on board with a glittery press conference. I'm not sure anyone noticed the Getz hiring outside of insider baseball circles and the industry itself. Maybe Phil Rogers can be convinced to write an article, but even that's doubtful.
  23. Uh, oh....now you're adding on to the current conspiracy theory by creating in Greg the belief system that not only is the media biased unfairly, but that we just call those who disagree with us names, burn down offices, spray graffiti and make a nuisance of ourselves with all "Trump/Ventura" supporters, lol. Thankfully, religion/God/Catholicism wasn't mixed up into that taunt.
  24. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 18, 2016 -> 05:42 PM) Yeah, it is hard to call writing large checks a strategy. The Dodgers are like a MUCH larger budget version of the White Sox. It seems Friedman knows what he wants to do in terms of retooling the franchise, but he's also under pressure (hence, all the veteran pitching signings and reclamation projects) to get to the playoffs each and every year. At best, the idea that a GM who can be successful in a small market and instantly translate those same concepts on a bigger scale is a mixed bag so far...we'll see what happens when they've cleared all those guys he inherited like Ethier and Puig and it's almost all his own blueprint except for Kershaw. Their minor league system is in very good shape, Urias looks like a keeper and Seager a future MVP, Toles came up and made a big contribution, Ryu and Maeda were both promising international finds who weren't "top dollar" guys, but there have also been plenty of relatively big mistakes as well.
  25. QUOTE (iamshack @ Oct 18, 2016 -> 03:35 PM) And if the White Sox had the development in their system that the Dodgers have had over the past 10-15 years, I probably wouldn't have questioned the hire. Or the amount of investment...where they just write off the Hector Oliveras of the world and go back to the drawing board.
