  1. As it stands already, the YES Network struggles to come up with additional content for one of the most storied franchises in sports. Sure, you've got Santo, Harry Carry, the Billy Goat, Billy Williams, Fergie Jenkins, Lee Smith, Maddux and Sandberg...but that's nothing compared to what the Yankees can work with. I also think that "winning fatigue" (see ATL Braves) will slowly set in as well.
  2. Well, yeah...Moncada hitting first or second pitch fastballs will even out (to his advantage) over time in terms of BABIP.
  3. Moncada first pitch hunting tonight...change in his usual approach of being super patient. (Yes, I realize he does have a walk as well, but that's the second time tonight, the first was lineout to 3B in the bottom of the first.)
  4. Hey, Ozzie benched Alex Rios. Once. It nearly set off a firestorm.
  5. That deserves a like, lol. Only my second vote. The first was for Dick Allen's joke to Lillian about Adam Engel being better suited for a batboy career.
  6. They have Morrow still under contract in 2019 as well, right?
  7. They're going to have no choice but to go with Saunders or Tilson sooner rather than later..
  8. Probably because Engle and Thompson are batting ahead of him when there's a RH pitcher on the mound... On the "plus" side, these games against Baltimore and KC give us opportunities to open up some breathing room for the #1 pick in 2019, so there's that.
  9. Do we actually know what we have in Anderson, Yolmer or Davidson??? Might as well make Leury the starting SS and see what Anderson can do playing all over the field...
  10. See also Jose Ramirez, Chone Figgins, Whit Merrifield, Marwin Gonzalez, Bregman, Baez, etc.
  11. Givens always seems to give the White Sox fits...
  12. Because the White Sox have been nearly invisible on a national basis for a decade. I think the ONLY one who could have broken through all that indifference would have been Ohtani, Trout or Harper...
  13. $10 million more probably isn't even enough...because the Cubs are still getting so much more attention in the Chicago, and NYC, Boston and LA are better markets for top athletes in terms of marketing. Let's say it's $350 million....how much more would he be able to generate in sponsorship deals/marketing opportunities with the Yankees, Dodgers, Cubs, Giants, etc.? The White Sox would need to be $25-50 million higher, at a minimum. About the only argument against the Cubs is that Bryant is already established as "the franchise" over there, but it just depends on how important it is for him to be on an "instantly contending" team.
  14. Well, I didn't argue for McCutcheon...trying to think of any outfielders other than AJ Pollock that realistically would be long-term targets and struggling to identify any that make sense.
  15. Probably because, like Arenado, there's at least a 50/50 chance he stays with the Red Sox...probably better in the case of Betts than Nolan, actually.
  16. Pollock being 31 Opening Day 2019 will be one factor limiting his FA deal to the $100 million range. You're not going to find a better player at that price, and you're not going to find someone in their 20's unless you're willing to give Harper or Machado $300-500 million and a share of the club, lol.
  17. Why do I have a feeling KW will sign Adam Jones a FA three years too late and try to "spin" his addition to the fans as being a move to compete in 2019...?
  18. That intentional walk was ordered by Renteria? Btw, Palka can join that long list of fielding-challenged, offensively competent 1B/DH/LF/RF types we've accumulated over the last twenty years...a list too long to even bother with.
  19. They're going to have to be happy with AJ Pollock, a closer and a "higher quality but not ace level" veteran starting pitcher...
  20. Paying Machado that much money would be nuts. It's the old "walk year" syndrome. How many times in baseball history have big-time FA's signed huge deals coming off career years and then wet the bed the following year? Can anyone think of someone who outperformed their walk year in their first year after signing a huge extension?
  21. https://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=1b&stats=bat&lg=all&qual=y&type=8&season=2018&month=0&season1=2018&ind=0&team=0&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0 Abreu should be tied or ahead for the 4th "best" 1B in the majors after statistics are added from tonight's game...
  22. https://www.fangraphs.com/leaders.aspx?pos=ss&stats=bat&lg=all&qual=y&type=8&season=2018&month=0&season1=2018&ind=0&team=0&rost=0&age=0&filter=&players=0 Anderson ranked 16th out of 26 qualified SS's 0.6 fWAR, 1.0 fWAR is 15th. Pace for 2.0-2.5 at the moment.
  23. Off topic...when is there going to be a COMPELLING NBA playoff game...talk about snoozers. 85.4 MPH change-up blasted into near-earth orbit.
  24. If we mention Collins is 0 for 2 with 2 K's, that means his next hit will be for XB's, right? Clarkin sporting a Gio/Fulmer-esque 7.02 ERA in AA. Pretty pretty bad.
  25. Moncada now 6 for his last 25 (3 of those hits came in one game)...has had some hard hit balls and "just fouls," but he and Abreu have been trending in opposite directions recently. One plus, K rate has been slowly falling. Yolmer nearing "super-sub"/not quite playoff-caliber starter territory again.
