QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Jun 25, 2015 -> 12:30 PM) They are running out of options here. Alexei keeps making errors and Gillaspie keeps making errors. Beckham can only play one position at a time And our only other plus defender, Sanchez, can't hit his way out of a wet paper bag. Of course, Beckham looks worse and worse everyday offensively, starting to almost feel sorry for him...

QUOTE (fathom @ Jun 25, 2015 -> 12:28 PM) Not sure how much longer they can keep him out there. Might as well play Bonifacio more and see if he can elevate his trade value...what's to lose at this point? Draft position?
-
We're currently on a pace to score 549, would be the lowest total for the Sox since 1968, the year of the pitcher. The Tigers were the only team in the AL that year to average over 4 runs per game, we're heading for an average under 3. Even the 1984-1987 teams were better offensively.

At this point, I'm not even sure a DFA of Conor is going to send any message... Is that really going to help Eaton, Avi or Alexei somehow play better? Maybe if was Conor and Flowers both.

QUOTE (shysocks @ Jun 25, 2015 -> 12:23 PM) Only one of those guys plays right field and it's the most expensive one. Cespedes could play there for sure. Gordon, though, is really much more comfortable in LF. Or they could move Cabrera to RF, although no matter what you do....those guys are all going to be too expensive since just one of them would blow the whole offseason budget.
-
"This is how they play. That's just ridiculous. Easy play, just airmailed it." LOL.
-
Something on Rodon's left hand is clearly bothering him... Blister issues from that slider?
-
More stellar defense. Hahn needs to add RF to the shopping list now. Cespedes, Heyward, Alex Gordon...hopefully not aging Ben Zobrist.

Last 29 games for Avisail, .155. Sanchez-like. Low walks, high K's, BABIP readjusting as predicted. The only way out of that is getting a ton of XB hits, which hasn't happened. Great, 7 in a row quickly retired. Is that right, we just had a stretch of 6-7 games in a row without any SOX batters having consecutive hits? Just wow.
-
Cespedes has single-handedly kept that offense afloat for much of the last 4-6 weeks. Definitely deserves to be in the All-Star game, not sure if he'll make it or not. Of course, if the White Sox picked him up next year as a FA, he'd probably go into the tank and start airmailing throws from the OF like post PEDS Sosa.

91 MPH slider wipes out Cabrera. (Jenks-esque) He's got those two sliders (one, the more sweeping one like Sale to the back leg against RHB), the much tighter Liriano version in on the hands and he's also throwing more change-ups today. Tigers a notorious fastball hitting team. Best fastball up to 97. Another walk.
-
Cabrera .350 in his last 16 games but still only 10 XB hits nearly halfway through the season...simply astonishing, according to the Tigers' announcers.

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Jun 25, 2015 -> 11:41 AM) I am to lazy and really don't care all that much but didn't he give up three or four runs early in his last outing vs our White Sox only to settle down and breeze through 7 innings? 4. http://espn.go.com/mlb/stats/pitching/_/so...ing/order/false Rodon's OPS against coming into this game was .714. Hard to understand how Oakland isn't better with those three frontline pitchers in the Top 18. Sale 8th. Cole Hamels up to 27th. Hector Santiago 38th. Think the Cardinals regret that Shelby Miller deal? Also, Dan Haren 30th when the Dodgers basically gave him away hurts. Hammel 11th??? (Guess we got the wrong ex-Cub there). And Francisco Liriano 5th in all of MLB, not exactly a Don Cooper success story.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 25, 2015 -> 11:37 AM) I haven't seen a good drop of the shoulders on a popup in a while, well done Gordon. We all miss Konerko's patented shoulder shrug/bat drop when things are going poorly. That affectation would fit in perfectly with this season.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 25, 2015 -> 11:34 AM) 3rd time this year. Actually 2nd. One of the DPs he grounded into was first and second. Considering how many times he strikes out, and contact isn't a strong suit, sending Flowers on a hit and run could be suicide as well. So basically he hits weak ground outs to the middle of the diamond, doesn't drive the ball, strikes out too much and doesn't run well. Perfect.

QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 25, 2015 -> 11:33 AM) Sox finally get a call from NY. http://espn.go.com/mlb/stats/team/_/stat/p...ype/2/league/al 13th/15th in ERA for the pitching staff. 14th in BAA, .271.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 25, 2015 -> 11:16 AM) Dan Hayes @CSNHayes 2m2 minutes ago Robin Ventura wanted to give Alexei Ramirez a day off to clear his head. #WhiteSox http://bit.ly/1LrXDhU Maybe need to try a season off. Or series. 0 for 8 against Simon, 9 for 37 against Price, 4 for 20 against Anibal Sanchez. He is 2/5 against Kyle Ryan, at least.
-
QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 25, 2015 -> 11:27 AM) Conor got him over Wait, what? The White Sox don't advance runners.

Why was Garcia playing so deep there? SIGH. New day, same 'ol story. Complete breakdown. It's nice that Melky finally has decided to started hitting for XB power when the season was already over. Garcia with a healthy knee is on 3rd base right now...Garcia just 7 for 36 against his former team, but 3 homers and a double, so at least he's hitting for power.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 25, 2015 -> 11:15 AM) And apparently turn him into MLBs worst SS defensively? By defensive runs saved? http://espn.go.com/mlb/stats/batting/_/pos...ARBR/order/true Here, he's ranked 11th in the majors. Among qualified, 7th out of 20. Alexei Ramirez is last at 20th. Starlin Castro, Rollins and Ian Desmond are the 3 right before the bottom, in negative territory.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 25, 2015 -> 11:11 AM) Semien isn't with the White Sox. Of course, you can argue the "aggressive promotion strategy/push them to the point where they need to turn to the coaching staff for assistance when disaster occurs" hasn't exactly been the best one... See Brian Anderson, Beckham, Courtney Hawkins, Walker, T. Thompson, Semien, Micah Johnson, Chris Getz, Brandon Allen, Jordan Danks, Phegley, Josh Fields, John Shelby, Jr., etc.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jun 25, 2015 -> 10:35 AM) To say again...the White Sox have a full month before there is actual "pressure building" to sell. They're not anything close to a playoff team, but they've got a month where they can wait for a team to get anxious or for a key pitching injury to occur and thus to have the price go up. The only downside risk to that strategy is Samardzija being the one who gets hurt. See Jesse Crain or Gavin Floyd in recent seasons....Bobby Jenks, Joe Crede, etc.

Now Molly Knight tells the story of the Dodgers’ 2013 and 2014 seasons with detailed, previously unreported revelations. She shares a behind-the-scenes account of the astonishing sale of the Dodgers, and why the team was not overpriced, as well as what the Dodgers actually knew in advance about rookie phenom and Cuban defector Yasiel Puig and how they and teammates handled him during his first two roller-coaster seasons. We learn how close manager Don Mattingly was to losing his job during the 2013 season—and how the team turned around the season in the most remarkable fifty-game stretch (42-8) of any team since World War II, before losing in the NLCS. Knight also provides a rare glimpse into the infighting and mistrust that derailed the team in 2014, and resulted in ridding the roster of difficult personalities and the hiring of a new front office. Hanley Ramirez is portrayed as the main reason there was infighting in that clubhouse... http://www.amazon.com/Best-Team-Money-Can-...m+Money+Can+Buy You want to get rid of Hanley? Tie Mookie Betts to him." He paused and reconsidered. "OK, maybe not Betts," he said, "but someone of value." The Red Sox are not yet that desperate with Sandoval. Even Ramirez, whose attitude has irked some respected members of the Red Sox's clubhouse, is not at the point of no return. Ramirez wore out his welcome in the fissured clubhouse of the 2014 Los Angeles Dodgers, according to "The Best Team Money Can Buy", a soon-to-be-released book by Molly Knight that chronicles the manifestation of a dysfunctional team worth nuking. Boston bringing him back despite his habitual bridge-burning – Ramirez was traded from the organization as a minor leaguer in part because of his tremendous ability to anger those with whom he played – hasn't exactly worked out as planned. Age doesn't always equal maturity. As Ramirez continues to play polarizing figure and manager John Farrell faces blowback from certain corners of the clubhouse as he tries to wrangle a group still capable of going on tilt, hitting the doomsday button on this incarnation of the … from the Jeff Passan article http://sports.yahoo.com/news/10-degrees--t...-043408970.html

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Jun 25, 2015 -> 08:02 AM) I don't know man, maybe the guy could play adequate defense if he was able to stay at one position but to acquire Guerrero means moves have to be made plus the Dodgers would have to absorb some of Guerrero's contract or be willing to take a contract from the Sox as part of the trade. Possible Samardzija/Guerrero swap in some form? I'm kind of confused on the contract status myself after reading what BR has to say.. http://www.baseball-reference.com/players/...shtml#contracts Says earliest Arb/FA is 2018/2021. Can anyone shed some light on this? Someone else said he automatically becomes a FA at the end of the year if he's traded. You might want to search under "Cot's Baseball Contracts"

Two things I would do, starting today. Hire Jose Molina or Yorvit Torrealba to work with Sox catchers on improved pitch framing. Hire the best quant/data analysis people from Sportsvision, which is already located there in Chicago. We have Fabian and Jeremy Haber, but we need to have at least 4-5 more industry experts working on this (not interns)...the most important point, they absolutely need to convince Ventura to adopt at least some of the changes, because the White Sox feel like they're in the dark ages defensively. We've already seen breakdowns with our video replay people, for another example.
