White Sox @ Royals 7:10 CT
http://espn.go.com/mlb/player/batvspitch/_...8508/john-danks Hosmer is the only one in the entire line-up to put up an OPS approaching 800ish against Danks. The rest of the Royals have been terrible against him. At least, up until tmrw afternoon.

QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 8, 2015 -> 09:59 PM) Danks- 16 career starts vs KC 7-0, 2.43 ERA 10 starts at KC 4-0, 1.73 ERA How does he only have 16 career starts? Twins- 27, Cleveland and Detroit- 22 Post-surgery? I would imagine that the specific 2009-2011 the numbers looked a lot better...Danks was shaky, especially to end, in 2008. Could be wrong and he just has their number...

White Sox @ Royals 7:10 CT
3-1 (end of 2013) 13-6 2-0 Royals have won 18 of their last 25 head-to-head meetings. 72% Probably lower than the betting odds going into tmrw afternoon's game with Danksie. The Royals ALSO won 10 of their final 12 games against the White Sox in 2012 (when the Sox desperately needed those wins). All the White Sox needed was 6-6 or 5-7.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 8, 2015 -> 09:26 PM) Why are the Sox so lousy against teams in the Central? Do you guys like our chances in any game played at Kauffman? Royals on paper are so much better than the Sox it's scary and sickening. 6-13 is probably about as good as we can expect vs. KC until things start changing drastically. The White Sox are flat...the Royals are flying high and feeling confident, especially with all those HBP's. Keep in mind, until the World Series (and Bumgarner), they were on an amazing streak. And Rios/Morales seem to be fitting in quite well into that line-up. It's like KSU or Missouri going into Lawrence and trying to win right now. Not easy at all. Not with KC so jacked up and on a carryover high from last season.

RODON TO THE RESCUE! No pressure, kid.

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 8, 2015 -> 09:20 PM) That made no freaking sense Ventura had already given up with the Cain homer landed? You have to at least try a lefty there....Conor, Bonifacio or Shuck, etc.

White Sox @ Royals 7:10 CT
2012 Jesse Crain doesn't give up a homer like that... Unfortunately, we have 14/15 version Crain. Without Petricka, there's nothing comparable on our staff for the "Davis/Escobar" innings.

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 8, 2015 -> 09:13 PM) Hey look, another inner half fastball. Just a bad, bad game plan by Cooper and Flowers Whatever it was, Putnam, when his sinker's not on, doesn't have the stuff to fool anyone. His FB is usually 85-88, so hard to tell. Have a feeling he'll join the ranks of Ehren Wasserman or Cotts/Politte as one year wonders.

Why are we using Guerra instead of Jennings here against Hosmer?

Man, this game is REALLY dragging along.

Gordon Beckham for MVP Jeteresque, lol. Duffy and Q look equally bad to start the season.

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 8, 2015 -> 07:15 PM) All the damage done that inning on fastball calls that Flowers wanted inside. Q probably aiming to avoid hitting the guy That's the other factor. When you're not pitching with confidence and "aiming" instead of throwing the ball because you're afraid to hit a 3rd guy and get tossed from the game, you're pretty much inevitably going to make some mistakes.

QUOTE (Mike F. @ Apr 8, 2015 -> 07:13 PM) Please don't crucify me for this, but does anyone think that Don Cooper isn't as good of a pitching coach as people make him out to be? That's not the problem. Q's just not sharp, and he's always had that one knock against him of not having a plus plus pitch he can go to on demand for a K. (See Santana, Johan change-up or Liriano/Rodon takeout slide piece). It's the same issue Danks has, albeit at lower velocities and with less different between FB and off-speed stuff.

QUOTE (JoshPR @ Apr 8, 2015 -> 07:10 PM) Rex hurdler is brutal I think you gave him a new nickname, HUDLER. Or that's your pet name for him? Quintana already at 63 pitches and not out of the 3rd inning yet. Early bullpen appearance/s looming....not the strength of this White Sox team.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 8, 2015 -> 07:09 PM) They would know. They've seen it exactly for one year. But against the White Sox, it's now a 3-4 year trend, right? At least since 2012, if not 2010 and 2011. Would have to look it up again.

QUOTE (daa84 @ Apr 8, 2015 -> 07:07 PM) because hosmer and moustakas have been so mediocre in the beginning of their careers, it's easy to forget that once upon a time they were the kris Bryant/Jorge soler of 3-4 years ago Yep, maybe even more was expected of Moustakas on draft day than of Soler the day he signed with the Cubs.

White Sox @ Royals 7:10 CT
The mood of the fanbase is going to be very angry if they open at home down 0-3 already. 1-2, you can live with, and pretty much expected, especially without Sale going the first series.
-
White Sox @ Royals 7:10 CT
You know you're in trouble when you're either hitting lefties or getting hit hard by them...Hosmer was in single digits for taters last year. Young Royals hitters playing with confidence. Plunking two of their guys is knocking over the hornet's next.

2015 AL Central Thread
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Apr 8, 2015 -> 03:04 PM) That sucks for the other teams in the division If Rondon and Soria aren't healthy (they say Soria's looked pretty good SO FAR), they might be forced into making an early move. Obviously, the offseason and then spring training didn't go well for the Nathan-Tigers' fans relationship.

Duffy sucks according to Dick Allen. Hope we dont miss hims start...although he probably would get pushed back a day, not skipped.

Opening Day Grades: Filler until Wednesday
They went through this with Frank Thomas. The belief that a player in the prime of his career is more engaged if he's out on the field and involved in the entire game...plus, there's the theory that Abreu can become average or above-average as he gets more big league instruction/coaching. We wouldn't want to have LaRoche play 1B for two seasons (primarily), then turn around and stick Abreu out there again two years from now. As long as he's not as bad as in the first month or so last season, it won't kill the Sox.

NCAA basketball 2014-15 thread
QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Apr 7, 2015 -> 07:12 PM) How could incompetence like this be allowed to exist in the crown jewel event of an incredibly powerful and wealthy organization like the NCAA? Incredible. Wisconsin fans are going to have a difficult time living with the referees' decisions (and non-action, in this case) for a long time. Especially with tv cameras clearly showing Winslow's foot on the line and the ball going off his fingertips. Those are not debatable. Then there were the three charges/blocks that all went Duke's way. Pretty much five significant/game-altering events going against you...Wisconsin could have won if it was only 2-3, but couldn't withstand all 5. That's not even mentioning time Wisky was called for a foul while their defender was getting smacked with an elbow while the Duke player jumped into him, initiating contact.
