  1. It feels like every other day there's some stat or tidbit coming across the transom to show just how ridiculous Ohtani is and how regularly he does unprecedented things. Today's might slip under the radar but when you really think about it, it boggles the mind. Wednesday was the seventh time, including the postseason, Ohtani has homered in a game where he also posted a scoreless start. It breaks the record previously held by Hall of Famer Bob Gibson, who was an accomplished hitter tasked with taking his own at-bats. www.si.com
  2. Kelley...unless you meant Joe? Well, just study what the Rays Brewers and Guardians do if all else fails. Seems to be working out just fine.
  3. Only when he's talking about his two real passions, politics and the Cubs. Sometimes playing Devil's Advocate or calling for every young Sox prospect to be brought up immediately at least can lead to somewhat interesting discussions...
  4. Potential. But relying too much on Hagen McDougal Thorpe etc., probably is a mistake too, or at least a bit presumptuous. Do we really believe Davis Martin will finish the year as a Top Ten mlb fWAR pitcher?
  5. Why are we rushing Montgomery? He hasn't had nearly enough time in AA and AAA to overcome some struggles, compared to 75-80% of first round college prospects. Especially considering his missed draft season due to injury.
  6. You're rushing Montgomery a bit. How many combined AA and AAA at bats would he have at that point? And who goes to the bench for Gonzalez? He can only play second SS or DH.
  7. Doesn't have power arm for RF or speed/range/burst for CF. So then he's going to push Antonacci/Hays out this year? And / or Benintendi cut? They won't make that move with AB's numbers in the mid 600s or higher for ops. Seems more logical to trade him for something that's more certain but an older player with established big league credentials. Even then, well that's kind of Peters Hill and Pereira already. Just hold and wait until a team desperately needs a SS 2B. That's what he clearly is. A middle infielder who spots starts at SS and more regularly plays 2B in terms of his tools at the next level.
  8. Isn't Hudson usually at 95-96? 94? Average velo? That's still an above average fb for a lhr.
  9. Kyle Larson?
  10. What would the Cards get for Riley O'Brien right now? Relievers are so volatile. He's going to have to go on a similar run, but the team would theoretically be right in the thick of the race...and to then go back to Dominguez would seem outright crazy. Those trades usually happen as they hit arb years like Hader....or the MMiller trade, which was even ballsier and pretty much unprecedented during this decade of prospect hoarding. Meanwhole, he can't get hurt again or his value would be cut by 50% overnight.
  11. Yamamoto isn't the same pitcher this year. Some of that has to be related to both his post season work load but also the importance of the WBC for Japan. Another two high leverage starts.
  12. That's what part of the draft discussion has been about....finding a pure hitter who makes consistent hard contact to break up the higher K rate guys. Teel could have been it...might still be. Same with 2025 Quero. And back to focusing on that OBP stat for guys like Meidroth Antonacci and Peters. (Another upcoming concern, Braden and Bonemer have lots of K's in general, as well.) Maybe you're in the playoffs soon enough, but elite pitching usually wins out as you advance through the post season. Also Kelenic just adds to the K parade.
  13. Shewmake is playing quite well, but only 50 at bats or so.
  14. No relation to Tanner?
  15. Or China. Works fine with Astrill VPN here.
  16. He's basically Boozer in the NBA draft...without the flashiness of Dybantsa Peterson or Wilson. Three of those dynamic prep athletes might not even make it to mlb though. Only Lackey seems pretty certain to get there in that 1A tier of players, along with Flora.
  17. 4 Martin 38 Burke 95 Kay 111 Fedde out of 116 fgraphs fWAR Schultz 91/146 had to adjust for ip basically a three/four starter so far
  18. Perhaps they bench Meidroth.... But don't see that happening anytime soon. Maybe he should take Colson's late/high leverage ABs lol?
  19. With only 18 milb games played there in the last three years?
  20. RH opener against tough rhb'ers? who though? Vasil role last year
  21. Hill >>> Acuna has to be the end for him tonight
  22. Just crazy to use him that late...put him behind the 8 ball
  23. went from offensive blitzkriegs to trench warfare from one series to next
  24. Ichiro good luck charm for Sox
