  1. Crushed that one, around 420-430 feet. Good thing Ozzie played the infield in Bill, we're still in this vitally important/crucial game. Josh Fields does look a bit quicker with his hands this year...he waited nicely on that breaking ball and yanked another double. Lefties are afraid of Brian Anderson, so they want to go right after Chris Getz. LOL!!!!! Nice camerawork...showing Fields running instead of the ball that looked like it could have been a double to the gap.
  2. More insight, Bill. Ryan Rowland-Smith is a unique name. Thanks for that contribution to the broadcast.
  3. Melton: Alexei Ramirez was the best 2B in the American League last year. A young star. Ummmm....maybe Bill, in the first half of the year, but definitely not over the full season. Apparently the White Sox don't care if their pitchers give up runs at all...only if they have a good BB/K ratio. Good news, Bill. And an error on Dye allowing the double. A woeful AA/AAA roster is dominating the White Sox (minus Beltre) and sending Wasserman to Charlotte again. Is Melton serious? They're playing the infield in because they don't want to go down one more run (from five to six) and they have the offense to come back? REALLY? Carlos Quentin did a good job last year defensively (WHAT?) and he has the best pop-up/sliding catch that Bill has seen, lol. UGH!!!! Don Wakamatsu is apparently a "good baseball man." Glad to think they might have hired a bad one was GM, but didn't. You would think Melton would be more familiar with him due to his White Sox ties.
  4. Josh Fields looking like Carlos Lee on the basepaths. He just went too far around third, was caught napping a bit and the catcher threw behind him. What the heck was he doing? He wasn't going to score from 2nd on a wild pitch...pretty horrific. Wasted a leadoff double with poor execution by Getz and bad baserunning by Fields. Bender with the fact of the inning. I had no idea Wasserman hadn't given up a homer in 57 career appearances. At least he's done some homework. Melton wants the DP to get out of the inning and there's ZERO outs. He's managing to make Singleton look like a combo of Vin Scully and Ernie Harwell.
  5. Nice recovery by CR. Realistically, most of those balls in that inning could have been fielded. They would have been pretty good plays, but I think Beltre's past Konerko definitely could have been stopped...or if Fields had at least knocked down the double and kept it in the infield. Or if Getz had nabbed that liner. It's not like he was getting rocked, just bad luck compounding on itself. "Josh Field"?? "Versatility with your knees?" You mean flexibility? Not a productive out there Getz.
  6. Funny, Konerko. That posture is about as symbolic of you as Thomas and Crede popping up to RF. The typical pull/yank to the left side of the INF with the head down out of the box and it actually goes through...I thought it was going to end up a routine ground out. Why do I have the feeling Ramirez would have speared that ball that Getz just missed? Joe Crede would have had that one!!! Just kidding. 2-0 M's, 2nd and 3rd with 1 out. (shouldn't have had a runner on 2nd, sloppy) 4-0 M's...Richard looking shaky for first time, giving up some perfectly placed groundball singles and doubles.
  7. Trey Bender, Gary Bender's son. Normally does ASU baseball...obviously from a broadcasting family, that helps too. Former White Sox Mike Morse still on the M's roster. He never really found a position where he could be a plus offensively, as he was too big and lacked range for SS. I guess the 90 degree heat is the reason for the small crowd? Being positive. Of course, it's a weekday game, too.
  8. I'm really glad Belton doesn't do the radio or TV on a consistent basis. Quentin hasn't looked locked in yet this spring...I'm sure he will come around and get locked in eventually.
  9. That's 3 scoreless innings for him so far. I think they'll definitely have to enlarge that hitter's background or hope those trees grow out there in CF. It does look like the Williamsport one, that was Konerko's joke.

The question, I guess, is "how much is plenty?" and whether they saved any or all of it. Rumor is China's Zhang Ziyi never dates a guy with less than a billion dollars, lol. I would think B.A.G. might have the best situation of the three, with the seemingly two decade long residuals from 90210 episodes. I guess it's rough for the former gang, Jason Priestly and Luke Perry have pretty much stalled out in their careers, and Ian Ziering was dumped by his Playmate wife. Who would have thought ten years ago the most successful member of that show would turn out to be Hilary Swank?
  11. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 2, 2009 -> 10:53 AM) Its not only Toronto's pick the Sox would lose, but the supplemental as well. You would have to figure that's at least $2 million in signing bonuses. If they want OC bad enough either make them give up a guy like League (who I would rather have than pay the picks who chances are won't pan out) or make them give up their pick or let OC rot on the sidelines. He had his chance to accept arb and screwed up. Seeing how TOR has pretty much pwned us this decade (especially up there), I think KW has a very good idea who we'd target from that relief staff. If anything, they might be OVERVALUED because they look so good against the White Sox on almost an annual basis. Plus, we picked up Jimenez when they let him go as well.
  12. QUOTE (Jenks Heat @ Mar 2, 2009 -> 10:22 AM) I get the feeling Viciedo is not in their plans at third. Based on what? If KW wanted to spend $10 million on a kid whose best years undoubtedly could be with another organization, I think he did it envisioning Viciedo at a position where his bat was at a premium weapon, which is 3B and possibly RF (because of his arm). If he's going to play LF/DH/1B, there are 20 of those types of guys on the market...the Scott Hatteberg/Lyle Overbay/Kevin Youkilis/Dan Johnson value pick-up highlighted in Moneyball. Unless KW really has the prescience to project almost Miguel Cabrera/Pujols type numbers, that contract's not going to turn out to be a bargain unless he's at third or RF. Same thing with Beckham and Alexei Ramirez in the middle infield....move Beckham to 3B or Alexei to CF and they're not going to produce much more than the major league average. Lillibridge, same thing, if he comes around offensively, his prime value to another club would be at SS...but in this market, "defense first" SS's like Cabrera, Uribe and Everett aren't getting much love.
  13. The popular rumor right now is Rolen, future closer Brandon League + cash subsidy for Rolen's contract FOR Fields and another prospect.

Well, the inevitable happened...just as Freida Pinto broke up with her fiance, Megan Fox finally dropped poor Brian Austin-Green of 90210 fame. If he had managed to marry her about 2 years ago, he would be set, with all those potential earnings from the Transformers series. It's like the Reese Witherspoon/Ryan Philippe or Jennifer Garner/Scott Foley thing...the law that stars should be very close in "prestige/power" or one will have to leave the other.
  15. My sister's bf is a big white sox fan and also interned at the radio station that Ozzie Guillen Jr does a radio show at in spanish and he says has heard ( I assume off the air) Ozzie Guillen Jr talking about stuff that Ozzie told him about Cabrera. Basically I guess he called him the biggest, most selfish tool to ever put on a White sox uniform in both his playing and managing days. Bigger then Thomas, Belle...supposedly when KW offered Cabrera arbitration ozzie told him if he accepts it and stayed here (which it looks like now he should've) he was prepared to use 24 men and charge his ass rent for it to stay on the bench all year... Don't know if it;'s true but certainly sounds like ozzie loved this quote from mlbtraderumors.com Well, Josh Fields for Scott Rolen and Brandon League would make sense for the White Sox, if they ate $6-8 million of Rolen's contract and/or the signing bonus, but it would block Viciedo for two seasons at the position where he has maximal value. Otherwise, it's not hard to imagine the logic of spending $5 million per season on someone like Abreu for LF/DH/1B. In other words, which would have the higher payoff statistically, Bob Abreu for the 2009/10 seasons for $10 million or Dayan Viciedo for 4 years at $10 million??? In all fairness to KW, that contract now seems a little like an anomaly, but it's still nothing compared to the money teams like the Yankees, Cubs and Braves have outlaid on multiple players over the long-term...or that crazy Raul Ibanez one in Philly.
  16. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/chi-0...,0,570375.story You would think this was even more important than Beckham's first homer at the new ballpark or the Sox comeback. Of course, they still have the 13-0 score from the Cubs/Sox game the previous day. I'm sure that would have conveniently disappeared had the scores been reversed.
  17. Forget Snider. He's not going anywhere... We could possibly get Van Snider, but not Travis. Or even Snideley Whiplash.
  18. 1) I think they might have to take Lillibridge as the back-up (even if he's not starting in CF or 2B) because it's obvious Betemit can't be trusted at SS. 2) Nix has really come to play...maybe it will work out like Quentin (change of scenery/outlook), he's about the same age, even though he's been around forever seemingly because he was a draftee out of HS. 3) Was nice to see/hear Corky gun down a runner...when's the last time that happened? He also had a double. This whole race with Corky, Stewart and Armstrong will have lots of twists and turns, and I wouldn't rule out KW picking up someone that's been cut the last 7-10 days either. 4) Seems like Owens or Wise will be the one to go...DJ was arguing that Owens should put a .375.-385 OBP to be effective, but the reality is that the most we can realistically hope for is .270-.280 with a .350 OBP. One of many major concerns with Owens is he just doesn't get on base consistently...he's super streaky, at least he was in 2007. He's not the sort of player who seems like he has the ability to get on base 15 games in a row at this point in his career. 5) Beckham and Viciedo have impressed enough so far to make themselves part of the conversation for Opening Day, but it's still a long ways to go and Viciedo will need to prove he can field bunts and make that running, sidearmed, off-balance throw coming in towards the plate. He has the arm, but does he have the athleticism as a fielder? We'll soon find out. I'm sure Cora is working on that with Fields and Viciedo everyday. He apparently needs to work even more with Betemit, who almost made 3 errors.
  19. QUOTE (SouthsideDon48 @ Mar 1, 2009 -> 01:08 PM) It's very possible that John Shelby will find a place on the team. If I'm not forgetting anyone, here's how the team might look 2 years down the line: c: flowers or AJ 1b: Viciedo 2b: Beckham SS: Alexei 3B: Fields rf: Quentin cf: jordan Danks lf: Shelby DH: Konerko or Dye That's the type of team I hope to see 2 years from now, and most importantly I hope Brian Anderson is nowhere near this team in 2 years from now. So you're not going to fit Brandon Allen in there at 1B or DH? Do you really think either Dye OR Konerko will be here in two years? I guess it's possible, but not very likely, unless the "recession" becomes a fullblown depression and the economy of baseball worsens even more.

I watched Joaquin Phoenix on Letterman. Too funny. Saw Zack & Miri Make a Porno and Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist. The second one reminded me of High Fidelity, but not nearly as good...more of a 15-25 year old audience for that movie, although good soundtrack. I'm really starting to like Elizabeth Banks. Jason Mewes was strange to watch in that one too, after seeing his normal Jay/Silent Bob routine. Seth Rogen should ride his moment in the limelight and milk it for all it's worth for as long as he can, lol. I do like him more than say, John C. Reilly, as a leading man...but still prefer him as a supporting actor. I guess Knocked Up had its moments as well, but I was never convinced SuperBad was the greatest teen movie in the history of the world. I'm not even convinced SuperBad is much better than Can't Hardly Wait.
  21. http://www.suntimes.com/sports/baseball/wh...T-sox01.article Pretty decent, in-depth Cowley article on Lillibridge and his struggles from last season and perceived role coming into ST.
  22. That's a great line....ask if you can get a 25-50% discount (50 to 75 cents on the dollar) because you could barely afford to pay for your White Sox season tickets AND eat at KW's restaurant. Somehow I have a feeling it won't be cheap. Or if there's a smaller crowd of people, offer to turn off the lights to save on their electricity bill.
  23. I wouldn't mind Ramirez in the 2 hole, getting a steady diet of fastballs, especially if Owens is actually leading off. I would rather see Getz/Lillibridge/Anderson at the bottom of the order, if possible. With that said, he'll probably be 6th or 7th most nights. I just don't want AJ back there again...he did the best job he could, but he just doesn't move well enough on the basepaths to be a 2 hitter. I think in the long run, we might see Beckham at the top of the order, 1st, 2nd or 3rd.
  24. http://www.chicagotribune.com/sports/baseb...0,594677.column With all the attention on these four guys, it's quite easy to overlook Fields, Lillibridge, Getz, Shelby and Jordan Danks. Nice problem to have...too many young sluggers to fit into one article. It's kind of becoming the inverse of the 1999-2000 rise of all the stud (alleged) pitchers, when we really only had Crede and Rowand on the horizon at that time. This current crop of youngsters is overloaded on the hitting side instead. Hopefully they will pan out much better than that group of young pitchers.
