  1. Adisyn Coffey...and don't forget Schoenle! You must have Addison Russell/Street/Wrigley on the brain Trey McGough sounds like either an Irish golfer or an offensive lineman. Carela, Bush and Eder were the guys picked by FutureSox podcasters to be traded due to "too much depth." We shall see.
  2. Dick was an exceptional two-sport star at Wampum High School in western Pennsylvania. He starred on state championship basketball teams. But his ability to hit a baseball overshadowed his hoop skills. Baseball scouts began following Dick as a junior. Scouts in those days doubled as salesmen. Era Allen served as her son’s negotiator. She was most comfortable with a 66-year-old Phillies scout, John Ogden. Upon graduating from in 1960, Allen signed a pro baseball contract that included a $60,000 bonus. Ogden also signed Dick’s older brother, Hank (1960) and young brother, Ron (1964). Each played in the Majors. Hank was a teammate when Dick made his pro debut, an 18-year-old shortstop with the Elmira Pioneers of the Class D New York-Penn League. Dick joined the team in Geneva and homered in his first game. A sign of things to come. After 1969 season, the Phillies traded him to the St. Louis Cardinals. He also played for the Dodgers and White Sox (1972 AL MVP). His 15-year career ended in Oakland in 1977. 7 All-Star teams, 351 home runs, .292 average. In today’s metrics his 165 OPS+ from 1964-73 led the Majors, better than Hank Aaron, Harmon Killebrew and Willie McCovey. For a stretch of 11 seasons (1964 through 1974), he had a .940 OPS, second only to Hank Aaron’s .941. Ten years after his 529-foot home run, No. 15 returned to the Phillies. He singled in his first at-bat, May 14, 1975, against the Cincinnati Reds at Veterans Stadium. Dick drew a standing ovation from the 30,908 fans. The past was forgotten. With Allen in the lineup, the Phillies won the NL East in 1976, ending a 26-year postseason drought. https://www.mlb.com/news/phillies-alumni-hall-of-famer-dick-allen To be totally fair, his Pennsylvania roots run REALLY deep. You also have to consider his career coming "full circle" and ending up playing for the Phillies in 1976 and helping them to the post-season.
  3. Allen's family has decided that he will wear a Philadelphia Phillies cap on his plaque, honoring the team that gave him his first professional contract in 1960. The Pennsylvania native made his MLB debut with the Phillies in 1963, then won NL Rookie of the Year in 1964. He remained in Philadelphia through the end of the 1969 season, at which point he demanded a trade and got sent to the St. Louis Cardinals. 6 years in Philly versus 9 with the White Sox, lol... https://www.si.com/fannation/mlb/fastball/news/former-chicago-white-sox-mvp-winner-dick-allen-to-wear-philadelphia-phillies-cap-on-hall-of-fame-plaque-class-of-2025-classic-era-committee-01jkrjp82q71
  4. About five years too late? Six??? Joc Pederson somehow keeps eluding the Sox every single offseason.
  5. Should have signed Rizzo and/or JD Martinez for marketing purposes, lol. Martinez will probably end up with the Padres, too. They tried Nelson Cruz and Matt Carpenter just TWO years ago.
  6. Let's see if we can somehow manage to achieve the oldest (and cheapest) line-up in baseball... DH Joey Gallo amazing he's still only 31, seems that he's been around at least five more years promoted as two-time GOLD GLOVE winner (LOL now) and Boras CORP client https://www.bing.com/ck/a?!&&p=479ac06929fde3e730d237f1f38de3ed29776ae41e52d034515bdf2def1b03d4JmltdHM9MTczOTQwNDgwMA&ptn=3&ver=2&hsh=4&fclid=03c24136-0107-6bcf-19e3-529f00f66aa7&u=a1aHR0cHM6Ly93d3cubWxidHJhZGVydW1vcnMuY29tLzIwMjUvMDIvd2hpdGUtc294LXNpZ24tam9leS1nYWxsby10by1taW5vci1sZWFndWUtZGVhbC5odG1s&ntb=1 LF Tauchman 34 RF Slater 32 3B Rojas Josh (a relatively spry 30) CF Michael A. Taylor 33, 34 on Opening Day C Matt Thaiss a spry 29, which is like 34 for a catcher, lol 2B Brandon Drury just 32, turns 33 at the end of the season 1B Andrew Vaughn 26, 27 on Opening Day P Martin Perez 33, 34 on Opening Day SS Jacob Amaya 26 1/2 Bench Luis Robert 27 1/2 (too young to play) Corey Lee 26 1/2 Andrew Benintendi 30 1/2 (barely younger than Joey Gallo, haha) I'm giving up here....maybe Moustakas or Hosmer can come back? Alex Gordon? No more ex-Royals?
  7. For pitchers, it seems (for the Sox) more and more the trend is going to be to completely SKIP over Charlotte and keep them down at Birmingham competing for league championships as long as possible as collective units/rotations. But it also obviously skews offensive numbers. Which is why Montgomery should be pushing a 850-900ish OPS and not low 700's if he really wants a promotion. Ofc, the White Sox are going off his last 4-6 weeks of play and the AFL and largely ignoring the rest of his struggles.
  8. https://www.dukechronicle.com/article/2025/02/duke-university-kennedy-center-president-donald-trump-fires-multiple-board-members-david-rubenstein-appoints-himself-chairman-truth-social-announcement President Donald Trump announced his plan to fire multiple board members of the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts and appoint himself as chairman, replacing David Rubenstein, Trinity College ‘70 and one of Duke’s top donors. Trump posted the announcement on his social media platform Truth Social Friday, claiming that neither Rubenstein — in his role as board chairman — nor other board members “share [the country’s] Vision for a Golden Age in Arts and Culture.” Established in 1958, the Kennedy Center is considered “the nation’s cultural center” and “a true ‘artistic mecca.’”

  10. He certainly had some time to study the Royals, which is basically a case of being in the right place at the right time to draft Witt, Jr., and spending more than anyone in the division last off season on Wacha/Lugo as well as making the Ragans/A.Chapman trade. Oh, and having veteran leadership from Salvy Perez (and an outlier of a 2024 season statistically). Lesson over.
  11. Money/greed/fame is a great motivation for players...especially when the gravy train of "easy money" on that early extension came to an abrupt end. Why the White Sox "coddled" their players and DIDN'T force them to get into the "greatest shape of their lives" over the off seasons is a question best addressed to Hahn and Getz, especially in the past cases of Anderson (more off-field distractions), Grandal, Lynn, Rodon, Jimenez, Moncada, etc.
  12. No way they're going to trade Burns or Lowder at this point...
  13. And can the owner (JR) override the wishes of the family? The Phillies and their owner have simply embrace Allen's enshrinement. Much different reaction at 35th and Shields.
  14. The Fisk argument. More games with White Sox...but iconic moments in 1975 and forever connected to Boston Red Sox lore, also originally from that region of the country if I remember correctly.
  15. More like Reinsdorf abandoned his cause...invested all his efforts into Baines instead.
  16. We have been discussing it a lot. Apparently the player’s family isn't the finally arbiter with a previously deceased player.
  17. A code whose name is derived from Jon Garland lol? Priceless. Also, might not want to trade Luis Robert now with all those enquiries coming in on the hotline...Oops it's already ovah. Workers weren't willing to answer non-ringing phones for more than 2 hours at a time?
  18. I wasn't really being serious. Just not a big fan of the SEC in general. Yes I know Frank Thomas Bo Herschel Walker pre-politics etc. At least nothing about the greatness of Todd Helton Waffle House and NASCAR.
  19. Go Wolverines! Oops that was Red Dawn...
  20. Martin is still learning from Michael Kopech at least lol. They maybe could/should have realized that AJ Pollock wasn't a right fielder...for example.
  21. Hibbard Jerksticks and poppy were five of the most optimistic posters here and look what the Sox have done to sap all of their collective enthusiasm. Fathom is right. I don't think Reinsdorf and Boyer understand quite yet exactly how battered and bruised this franchise is right now. It will definitely be apparent in April and May crowds...spring training attendance, will probably get more Dodgers' fans blocked out of tickets for their half of Feb/March who just want to watch other teams play. Glendale will definitely be a ghost town during the Tokyo Series against the Cubs. I suppose it's a unique opportunity for that "dirty dozen" still persevering in their coverage of the Sox to gain all-encompassing/exclusive access...guys like Fegan and Margalus and Connor McKnight.
  22. Okay. Hopefully you won't be so grumpy with the new Captain America movie coming out...and Valentine's Day to top it off.
  23. A lot of speculation Bregman was going to be moving to 2B with Altuve to LF had he stayed in Houston. Shaw will be much better than Morel Paredes Candelario at third.
  24. Barfield and Venable much quieter. Must be Getz positioning for same AL Executive of the Year Hahn won in 2019. The same Hahn and Haber that are totally out of baseball now.
