Sox Draft Carlos Rodon> Draft Day Discussion Thread
ILMOU replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in FutureSox Board
QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Jun 7, 2014 -> 12:27 PM) I'm not watching the draft, who did we take that had TJ and is a good prospect and commit to Mizzou? A guy named Bryce de Oca or Bryce Montes de Oca - not sure. QUOTE (Palehosefan @ Jun 7, 2014 -> 12:29 PM) Too bad we couldn't pull in Curtis Curtis, lucky Brewers. Looking at our picks to this point, we must have ours eyes on a guy named Jake Jake. I hear he's totally jake. -

QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Jun 7, 2014 -> 11:41 AM) Unsignable by all accounts He's a kid from Lawrence, KS committed to Mizzou - he should sign with us for his own safety! -
White Sox at Astros - 5/16 - 7:10 - CSN - Game 1 of 3

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ May 16, 2014 -> 03:06 PM) I can agree with this. I also would respect a manager who is willing to tell him no. I'm with you B. In this particular season, no reason not to be extra careful. -
QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ May 16, 2014 -> 12:50 PM) Gordon Wittenmeyer, Sun Times cubs beat writer when on the SCORE is a must listen. Whose show is he on? I'll check it out.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ May 16, 2014 -> 10:16 AM) Dykstra is pitching for Kanny too. He's worth mentioning, he keeps it up, he will earn himself a promotion also. Yep. Another groundballer. Seems like an org-wide philosophy may be taking hold, possibly. Need to see him in more age-appropriate level before long.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ May 16, 2014 -> 07:27 AM) His approval rating for presidential years is 47 percent as of April 2013. Not as high as I thought but I imagine the liking of him outside that is significantly higher. Yes they are like backup qbs but that's alright. His politics don't really matter here with regards to commish and yeah probably belong in the filibuster. Publicists that former presidents hire are good at their jobs, and are able to exploit an advantageous situation - the fact that negative media coverage has long since ceased, and they can retell the story of their presidency, whether it has any basis in fact, or not. It will happen with Obama too.

QUOTE (SCCWS @ May 16, 2014 -> 06:47 AM) Tigers have 7 guys on the DL. You forgot Jones for us. Injuries are very much a normal part of baseball these days. In fact Texas has 13 on their DL. My concern is Detroit is winning despite injuries. When we get guys heading to the DL, we replace them w average AA/AAA type players. All the rainouts have allowed them to pitch their Aces in a crazy-high % of games so far. This will change. Yeah, it'll take a lot, but not impossible.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ May 15, 2014 -> 04:13 PM) I think everyone loves post president Bush and there isn't anything less polarizing than baseball. With his connections I think he'd be an amazing hire. But more of a pipe dream candidate because why would he want it? His name for the job has obviously been at the top of the list for this job in every article about this for year's now, but just can't see it. Uh, no, not really. But, like Jimmy Carter, his public image is largely rehabilitated, yes. Further discussion along these lines likely belongs in the Buster, I'd think. Former presidents are a lot like back-up QB's.

All is not lost, but then I'm an optimist, glass-half-full kind of guy: Anderson still young for level, and he's raw, so patience will be required, but ceiling is high. I think May could have pushed himself too hard playing year-round. He might be showing signs of pulling out of it, a bit. We're missing Lopez, Bassitt and Brennan still on the pitching side, the first two of which are Top 20's for us. Montas shows a fairly high ceiling if he can refine a secondary or two, and he's plenty young to do it. Micker will be someone to follow before too long - hopefully this summer. A number of the "failed starter" types will still profile as effective relievers. And I could envision Olacio making it to the bigs as a reliever, but still with the possibility of converting back to SP if Coop can make him "repeatable". Very young. Ravelo could be decent trade bait to the right org. TreyM is very intriguing, with a high ceiling. Seems to be sticking at 3B so far, which is a big hurdle for him, if he can hang there. Super young. Rondon, Engel, Kevan Smith and a few others aren't all that far from deserving consideration. Admittedly, I share little optimism for Trayce or Barnum. (Trayce could be 4th or 5th OF, don't see KB in MLB) Need to hit on both of the first two picks, imo, to really boost the overall profile.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ May 15, 2014 -> 03:59 PM) Hopefully George W Bush is ready to get back to work He might do a fine job, but it would be deemed too polarizing/political a hire, so I can't see it.

QUOTE (southside hitman @ May 15, 2014 -> 12:45 PM) Bad arm slot, unconventional delivery, poor secondary offerings. destined for the bullpen. And he's way old for the level. Pass.

QUOTE (Dunt @ May 15, 2014 -> 01:51 PM) He said that exact same thing about Sale. Let's get the lefty version (Medeiros) in this year's draft so he can go for the trifecta. QUOTE (raBBit @ May 15, 2014 -> 01:48 PM) I am cautiously optimistic here. Definitely would like the velocity to return to where it was when he was drafted. I just noticed something in watching his videos again. Compare his most recent Kanny videos with his HS video. He seems to exert himself much more on the HS tape, and relatively looks like he's not even breaking a sweat at Kanny. Gotta believe this is by design.

QUOTE (raBBit @ May 15, 2014 -> 01:38 PM) Exactly. Everyone should read his chat from today. All he did was talk about what he's hearing. It wasn't the "White Sox have been known to draft athletic college arms so they'll take Nola here" bulls*** we get from other mocks. He said things like "I'm hearing the White Sox love Kolek." "I know that Rodon won't fall past four." "I'm hearing Philadelphia is looking to go college/more ready prospects if Gordon doesn't fall to them." "I hear Houston is seeing if they can shave 1 or 2 million off their first pick with a certain guy so they can put that money towards their second rounder." "Every year it's hard to get info from Seattle and their pick." This stuff really is interesting, and makes one wonder just how much posturing/smoke-blowing is going on. The bolded being contrary to recent earlier rumor is fascinating.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ May 15, 2014 -> 12:35 PM) This is almost certainly a hot little fluke run from Gordon, he has like 1200 PA in MLB and his body of work is not good. That said, I hope he continues to mash. We could use a fluke on the positive side for once. Flowers not flukey enough for you? -

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ May 15, 2014 -> 11:00 AM) Really hope Bassitt can come back soon, he's already 25 and in AA, I think it would be huge if he lost a year. I too am very interested to see Lowry with Kanny. I also want to see Chris Fruedenberg in Kanny at some point this season. That's crappy news about the Hound (Bassitt). Seems like he's attending the Derrick Rose school of slow healing. Looking forward to seeing how Lowry does at Kanny.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 15, 2014 -> 11:36 AM) Discussed yesterday, and again today, in the transactions thread. Recchia to AA, Danish to A+, Lowry to A. Sorry, missed it. But still threadworthy, imo. This guy's going to be as polarizing as Hawk around here. It will be interesting.
-
can't believe I missed this. Colleen Kane @ChiTribKane Tyler Danish is going to be promoted to Class A Winston-Salem tomorrow. He is 3-0 with a 0.71 ERA in seven starts with Class A Kannapolis. 1:55 PM - 14 May 2014 Youngest player in the CL, I believe. A few folks here need to look up the definition of overrated, as I see that being tossed around so loosely. Quite the reverse. You guys might compel me to go all Caulfield-Puig on yo ass, and nobody wants that. Timing is good. Barring setbacks, which are, of course, very, very possible, if not probable, seeing as he's a pitcher, he'll be ready for 2016 - and he'll be our second best arm. But first things first. Futures Game, then a few starts in B'Ham before the shutdown.

Cespedes has the kind of physique that could excel at any athletic endeavor, Puig too. The other guys all look like "baseball players"

QUOTE (greg775 @ May 14, 2014 -> 12:20 PM) Good call. I wish I'd seen it so I could have relaxed. Not a Kepp fan. Wait, this is possible? I've mailed you a brick of pure Mexican heroin - it will arrive in an unmarked wrapper.

QUOTE (Brian @ May 14, 2014 -> 05:51 AM) Do goalies crap themselves when they see Kane coming at them in space with the puck? They should. Kaner is an assassin.

QUOTE (raBBit @ May 13, 2014 -> 01:51 PM) Not only do I agree with this, but it brings me to one of the positives with Aiken is how well taken care of he has been by his coaching staff. Aiken has taken huge strides his junior to senior year. Not to say Kolek has been abused because he hasn't, but it's something to consider. Not to seem ignorant, but Kolek is blessed with a big, strong body and serious arm action where Aiken seems to be close to a polished, well-rounded product. Anyone who understands pitching mechanics has to love what they see in Aiken's easily-repeated, smooth delivery. It's hard not to love a left-hander who works mid 90's but still goes about his pitching by utilitzing his change up. Certainly everyone is going to make the parallels to Clayton Kershaw being a the last big time prep lefty but the comparison I really like is Cliff Lee. Sure, his control would have to be next to impeccable to be a Cliff Lee type but there are a lot of striking similarities with the easy motion and the pitchability. He is the type of pitcher that you can tell to throw 90% and he still has the stuff to dominate. Being a lefty with a change up like his, any velocity over 92 could be called excess. I'm with you Hare. Aiken is the best plausible scenario at this juncture. I'm liking that Nolan and Co. are scouting Kolek - hopeful local sentiment wins out.

QUOTE (ptatc @ May 13, 2014 -> 01:45 PM) No, i don' t think it was from that pitch. Just over-throwing then? Too many pitches too young? What would be your guess?
