  1. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Mar 10, 2014 -> 09:54 AM) It makes a lot of sense for Seattle, less so for the White Sox. ^
  2. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Mar 10, 2014 -> 07:32 AM) We are still talking about Dayan Viciedo right now, right? I understand the guy has a high ceiling, but he's no where close to reaching it, and Saunders' ceiling is just as high or higher. There is some severe overvaluation going on here. Not. Even. Close. And Saunders is 27.5. He's likely AT his ceiling. And we're going to move Tank to DH ideally anyway. Makes NO sense whatsoever. QUOTE (raBBit @ Mar 10, 2014 -> 09:41 AM) Considering this report is coming out of Seattle, Rock doesn't see any validity to it and it doesn't necessarily make sense for the White Sox, maybe this is just bulls*** coming out of Seattle because they may want to move Saunders. Gotta be, right?
  3. QUOTE (daggins @ Mar 9, 2014 -> 04:34 PM) He isn't good but his defense alone makes him more valuable than the last two years of DV if neither of them progress. The ceiling is so low for Saunders, he's not nearly the plus player we need. If they're angry with Dayan, trade him someplace else.
  4. QUOTE (daggins @ Mar 9, 2014 -> 04:29 PM) Are these Tweeters reputable? If they don't think Dayan will ever lay off the slow stuff getting Saunders back would be a major coup. The trade makes no sense for either team though, they are just swapping disappointing assets without solidified positions. Huh? He's bad. We've got about 6 guys in the system that could be better in the two hole.
  5. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Mar 9, 2014 -> 03:52 PM) We're going to get sick value out of our last three 2nd round picks. Need one of our last two 1st rounders to pop. I'll settle for one. Micah making stuff happen. Staff has to like what they see.
  6. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Mar 9, 2014 -> 04:05 PM) I see very little validity in Viciedo to Seattle. Please be so.
  7. QUOTE (GoGoSox2k2 @ Mar 9, 2014 -> 04:02 PM) I actually a really intrigued and would really enjoy a 1-2 at the top of the lineup with eaton and saunders Career OPS 64 points lower than DV, 2 1/2 years older. He's Jordan Danks if we gave Jordan Danks more ABs. This would blow, horribly.
  8. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Mar 9, 2014 -> 03:54 PM) Just read tweets that Saunders is indeed one of the names involved. I would hope there's a + to that for Viciedo then. I hate that trade already. Need higher quality than what we've got. Don't think Saunders is any damn good, we've got version of him already. This is way overpaying, for left-handedness? Say it ain't so.
  9. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Mar 9, 2014 -> 03:26 PM) He's a good one. We're going to get sick value out of our last three 2nd round picks. Need one of our last two 1st rounders to pop. I'll settle for one.
  10. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Mar 9, 2014 -> 03:25 PM) Tweeters are now saying Michael Saunders Astros have a quality C prospect behind Castro. I wouldn't overpay for Castro at this point. See how he does this year. I'd deal Viciedo/De Aza et al for prospects in a heartbeat, even if in the low minors. Saunders, please no.
  11. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 9, 2014 -> 01:24 PM) If they were just looking to dump one or both, someone would have been gone already.Power is at a premium in today's game. Giving up on Viciedo without getting anything of significance back would be something the Sox aren't going to do. This, I hope. Seager or Franklin or no deal.
  12. QUOTE (Dunt @ Mar 9, 2014 -> 01:04 PM) Franklin is gonna be awesome If they like Franklin better than Seager, maybe they trade Kyle to move Nick to 3B. (And he can trade positions with Cano a few years down the road) With Miller too, they're loaded with lefty/SH IFs.
  13. QUOTE (coco1997 @ Mar 9, 2014 -> 11:47 AM) http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2014/03/whit...medium=facebook I don't see any lefty power among their prospects. Guillermo Pimentel is the closest thing and looks very marginal. Davidson plus DV for Seager?
  14. Beede has a musical side as a rapper. Black Jack for the hip-hop generation? And I learned it's pronounced BEE-dee, not Bead.
  15. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Mar 8, 2014 -> 02:26 PM) Levine, Bernie Pleskoff, and Jon Heyman have all mentioned Mariners interest in Viciedo now. Levine said this morning that Zduriencik was in camp watching Viciedo. What would the Sox even be interested in from them? Tyler Pike, Luiz Gohara and Julio Morban may all be interesting to us to varying degrees.
  16. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 8, 2014 -> 08:07 AM) They're losing the 9th pick in the 2nd round, so that's even less than we'd have had to give up, and to some degree they do have a roster that "if things work out" could make some noise potentially. I probably wouldn't have done it either though. That's the second least valuable draft pick that can be lost. But we hear it's a deep draft. Our high second rd pick could be a stud, if we're smart. It will be verrrrvy interesting in late September how the lineups are made if the Sox are teetering somewhere between the 9th and 12th worst records in baseball. Last season, the 10th worst team was in a tie with 74 wins. An 11 game improvement, or thereabouts, for this team is a very plausible scenario, putting us in that conundrum of wanting to stay 10 worst. I believe we'll have a "tiebreaker" against all teams except the Stros and Fish Hoping we blow away the projections and prepare to eat whatever draft picks necessary next year after a successful campaign, however.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Mar 8, 2014 -> 07:52 AM) If we don't have an obvious guy step up and take the 5th starter spot, then we can sign him next offseason and have saved $14 million in the process. It's one more guy in the market, which should slightly help overall costs for whoever we possibly target. Don't think there will be as many FA's in general available, next year and beyond, as I'd hoped. The trend is to stay put and sign long term deals. Draft and Intl. stuff will be all the more important for acquiring key talent.
  18. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Mar 8, 2014 -> 07:14 AM) http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2014/03/ervi...th-al-club.html The truly great thing about this is that ES will be a FA again next year, most likely, so the fabulous debate can rage all year.
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 7, 2014 -> 11:51 AM) Scott Merkin ‏@scottmerkin 3m Daniel Webb threw a bullpen today and Don Cooper was very happy with it. Said Webb will get a day off and then throw in a game Sunday Both Nate Jones and Scott Downs make their Cactus League debut Saturday against the Diamondbacks Projected bullpen pieces coming together it would appear this weekend. Enough time left that the early absences shouldn't matter a whole lot. Lindy is the one to worry about, I suppose. Those obliques need time.
  20. Beede real strong again last night vs. Winthrop: 7IP 6H 1ER 0BB 9K. Having a nice year. Our Guy?
  21. QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 7, 2014 -> 01:19 PM) When do we start worrying about Paulino? Just now, for me.
  22. You know it's spring training when Tank looks at three straight strikes and Votto swings and misses on first three pitches.
  23. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Mar 7, 2014 -> 05:56 AM) Yeah, if my agent was a string bean I'd be looking to make a change as well. I read he's now considering the other Stringfellow brothers, Shoe, Silly & Cheese.
  24. QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 6, 2014 -> 02:14 PM) Viciedo and De Aza double in separate games. Trade 'em! Yep. They're both at peak value.
  25. Loving Eaton as a lead-off man so far.
