  1. I don't mind the 83's again, but they should be honoring the '64 team in the 50th anniversary. They won 98 games, and the blue looked real good.
  2. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Feb 25, 2014 -> 08:13 AM) Kolek's biggest issue is that he is not very projectable, his frame is very mature, though it doesn't all look like good weight. On the other side, he already has elite velo, and a pretty good arsenal. I could see him sneaking in as the #1 pick if he will give the Astros a hometown discount. As a local kid, it would help a lot with their marketing efforts and he has a chance to be a top of the rotation arm in the not to distant future. Not that I'm comparing them or anything, but you should see pictures of Roy Halladay from high school. Kid was fat. His HS uni is on display at his alma mater. Huge.
  3. QUOTE (Dunt @ Feb 24, 2014 -> 09:17 AM) Cutch I'm a Cutch guy as well. Love his humility as well as his game.
  4. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Feb 24, 2014 -> 10:56 AM) Isn't that what Johnson and Paulino are? Ramping from 170 to 200 (or close to it) should not be a big deal. Pretty typical. In '12, for instance, Sale and Q started losing effectiveness only after exceeding previous loads by more than 50 innings. May be an issue with Paulino, but only if we're competing will it matter.
  5. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Feb 24, 2014 -> 10:19 AM) Harold Ramis, writer/director/actor, 69. Going to have to watch Caddyshack tonight in his honor. Bummer. That guy just looked funny. Did most of his best work behind the camera, but I always thought he should have acted more.
  6. QUOTE (flavum @ Feb 24, 2014 -> 10:51 AM) 6-man rotation is a horrible idea. Here's what the need to shoot for: Sale, 34 starts, 230-240 innings Quintana, 33 starts, 215-225 innings Danks, 32 starts, 210-220 innings Johnson, 32 starts, 190-200 innings Paulino, 31 starts, 180-190 innings Obviously things come up during a season, but they should never plan for a 6-man rotation. This. Only with multiple pitchers incapable of getting to 200, but who need to build innings, should it even be considered.
  7. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Feb 24, 2014 -> 10:39 AM) Isn't it typical for a starter to get ~200 innings/season based on a five man rotation, barring injuries? All of our starters this season, with the possible exception of Paulino, should be able to approach 200 innings without major fatigue, if necessary. Even Rienzo logged ~170 last year, if we need to get a large number from him due to injury or other circumstances. If we happen to surprise and compete, pitcher fatigue shouldn't be a major issue like it was in '12.
  8. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Feb 23, 2014 -> 01:23 PM) But we lost because Sale wasn't started in the minors the year previous? Please. Viciedo had no business playing against RH'ers after the All-Star break for a contending team. I did not say this. I have zero issues with how we handled Sale. '12 was only a skeleton of a contender as mgmt. acknowledged. Just that DV's performance in '12 ranks towards the bottom of reasons we didn't ultimately win the division.
  9. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Feb 22, 2014 -> 08:15 AM) Dick Allen is right, it's far-fetched to think Sale's development was slowed in any way by how the Sox have handled him. In fact, had they started him in the minors in 2011 as you suggest, there's a very good chance the Sox do not have their best asset in this rebuild, Chris Sale's team friendly contract. As far as 2012 goes, Viciedo was allowed to get 410 plate appearances against RH'ers where he put up a .650 OPS. They lost the division because they did not fix fixable problems. We didn't lose out in 2012 because of DV. We lost out because Konerko and Dunn fell off a cliff after great starts, and the two pitchers who'd carried us were completely out of gas down the stretch. DV was consistently mediocre throughout the year - was actually much better than the other two in Sept.- and replacing him with Juan Pierre or whoever would NOT have made a difference - at least not in a positive way. But go ahead and keep pushing that.
  10. QUOTE (Stan Bahnsen @ Feb 21, 2014 -> 07:50 PM) They'll likely sign Morales soon, imo. Or perhaps Cruz.
  11. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 21, 2014 -> 01:49 PM) MLB ‏@MLB 50m The @Orioles are more interested in adding a bat than signing RHP Ervin Santana: http://atmlb.com/1fG0Si7 They'll likely sign Morales soon, imo.
  12. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 21, 2014 -> 09:01 AM) The elite upside pitcher will be in the system in June. That number three pick in the draft is the future #2 to Chris Sale. Future #3 after Sale and Danish is what you meant to say. Tyler will be considered elite in...oh, about 90 days from now.
  13. QUOTE (The Baconator @ Feb 19, 2014 -> 09:40 PM) I think it 's a positive note that he wants to be able to communicate with the media. The media basically controls his image to the fans, and the fact that he wants to be part of that makes me think that he wants to be fan-friendly, or at least approachable. The White Sox need players that are approachable and "everyday kind of guys" so people can relate to them and buy into something (if we aren't winning). Something to make young fans and families enjoy the team we have. I'm all for it. He's going to be the new team leader very soon, and the new team Captain not too much later.
  14. From their perspective, I don't think CG has enough power in that position for a team that still needs more of that.
  15. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Feb 18, 2014 -> 03:21 PM) Dan Hayes ‏@DanHayesCSN 2h Also on the site: Adam Eaton thinks his elbow injury hurt him at the plate last season. Elbow is good now. #WhiteSox http://bit.ly/1hsKpVc But why were the SB numbers down so much?
  16. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Feb 19, 2014 -> 05:02 AM) You're not even trying anymore. And yet he's still succeeded brilliantly. Page 38 and counting...
  17. QUOTE (Dunt @ Feb 17, 2014 -> 10:59 PM) Heard Laurence Holmes say on 670 earlier tonight that Abreu was putting on a clinic in the batting cage today. Everybody is taking note of his work ethic and approach. I am really excited about this guy, I think we have the steal of the offseason. Hope some of this rubs off on Tank.
  18. QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Feb 18, 2014 -> 11:45 AM) Yeah, I'm pretty sure you could do it better with RF transmitters and sensors triangulating signals. I can't imagine that would be all that costly either. Sure, there are several ways, the key will be a high degree of accuracy. They can already track ball movement very accurately on pitches - IF you can track it that effectively throughout the field of play and foul territory, and have that movement synchronized with exact player positions - from their starting-point to the time at which a ball would travel through their possible fielding zone, then you would have accurate measures of range for infielders and outfielders. Lots and lots of data, but it must be coming before too long.
  19. My wife wants to go to Puerto Rico at end of April. Would love to get some recs./things to avoid from anyone who's been there in the past few years. Thanks. Best beaches/cool things to do are at the top of my list.
  20. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Feb 18, 2014 -> 09:55 AM) I would hope not. That type of information would be so helpful in determining a ton of things - how fast a player is, how well they takes routes to the ball, how well they run the bases. Seems like it would be a bit spendy, but nothing MLB couldn't handle. I agree. Make it so.
  21. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Feb 18, 2014 -> 06:49 AM) The reason they never used to look at the starting position of the fielder wasn't because it was overlooked, it was because they didn't have the technology/math to factor it in. What they did instead was simply throw out all plays where an abnormal shift was detected, and allow the fielder's instinct as to where to position himself get baked into the total number at the cost of precision. But with the frequency of extreme shifting continuing to increase, I'm glad they've found a way to start factoring it into defensive measurements. As far as the Sox go, I can't see any reason for them NOT to start using it, especially given the fact that, outside of Sale, our pitchers aren't exactly "high K" guys. I will say, however, that the shift seems to be primarily a trick to improve range, whereas a lot of what made the Sox defense bad last year was physical and mental errors. I've maintained that defense will be much better evaluated when all players' positions are accurately GPS'ed. Featherweight sensors that could be put in the belt area of the pants could easily be done with present technology, I believe. Would players' union have a beef with this?
  22. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Feb 16, 2014 -> 07:50 PM) Enjoy it. Three weeks from now it's going to be all about spring training numbers and Hawk for the 2934833 year in a row talking about how much he likes the Sox chances. You're a sadistic bastard, J4L, and I mean that in the best possible way.
  23. QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Feb 16, 2014 -> 12:23 PM) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Confirmation_bias Well played, sir.
  24. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Feb 16, 2014 -> 09:52 AM) They have five starters without Dempster, so this doesn't change anything. Nothing to see here for White Sox fans. Classy move by Dempster to walk away from $13 million. Except that one of them, Buchholz, is literally made out of porcelain. This is strange, imo.
  25. Not to worry, these problems will soon be behind him.
