  1. Trade him to a too-desperate Yankee team after Jeter gets hurt midseason. I'll want to see if any of their, more valuable than Cervelli, C spects are worthy by that point in time.
  2. QUOTE (oldsox @ Mar 17, 2014 -> 07:06 AM) Kershaw was a HS grad when drafted by LA. Still very risky, but if Sox can't sign the pick they get a very high pick next year. Is Kolek reputed to be a tough sign? Inquiring minds wanna know.
  3. QUOTE (ptatc @ Mar 16, 2014 -> 09:04 PM) The Sox will not draft a high school player with the third pick. You are mostly likely correct, but going back just a few years, they never would have picked the Sale or Danish types either. Things change.
  4. QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Mar 16, 2014 -> 12:16 PM) Workouts can be moved, games need a good reason to be moved. Frost under the sod is probably not a good reason The hideous winter b**** goddess you folks have been grappling with was bound to affect the season, it's only fitting.
  5. QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 16, 2014 -> 08:43 AM) I'd rather have a younger PBP voice that didn't play, and a former player doing color that at least played in the last 20-30 years. Really, I just want broadcasters that do a solid job, and stay out of the way of the action on the field. Hawk gets in the way of enjoying the game. AJP is a couple years from retirement. I think I'd like him as a color guy. Maybe we should just go with a "great voice" at PBP, regardless of baseball knowledge, kinda like Dwayne Staats. I could listen to Dennis Haysbert or Sam Elliott all day. Hawk has a terrific voice, but like you say, the other stuff...
  6. Hawk's picture should be in the dictionary next to the word polarizing.
  7. QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 16, 2014 -> 05:22 AM) Even before that comebacker, I've had that same thought this spring training. His bat is so live. I hope we don't see a pitcher carried off on a stretcher this year. "Slider speed", lol - buncha foo's In fairness, scouts are asked to judge these Cubans on really small samples.
  8. I won't mind if the Beckham oblique queers any Cervelli deal. Just seems like a treading-water move and does not excite. I'd like to see Marcus play nothing but 2B at Charlotte for the near term - looks like he could use some refinement there, based on last night's observations.
  9. QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Mar 15, 2014 -> 09:17 PM) They'll sign Drew This, most likely. Look how they went out and got Fielder after Victor went down.
  10. QUOTE (raBBit @ Mar 15, 2014 -> 09:38 PM) He does need to have better results, you're right. At this junction, he's the most projectable starter and has the chance to be a top end starter. We're on the same page here. When you read between the lines in recent descriptions of him, you get the feeling that the scouts are expecting him to "put it all together" to yield those results, based upon what they've seen in the CCL and elsewhere, and various levels of disappointment (mostly mild, so far) that he hasn't quite arrived. There is PLENTY of time, though, for him to get it going.
  11. QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 15, 2014 -> 04:58 PM) https://twitter.com/ChiTribKane/status/4449...1468032/photo/1 I'd rather watch Semien and Davidson anyway. Absolutely. The Beckham showcasing doesn't need to begin til the 31st.
  12. QUOTE (raBBit @ Mar 15, 2014 -> 04:53 PM) Yes. Hopefully the Marlins' front office is as sheepish as some of the posters around here. Hoffman is the best athlete (as far as staring pitchers), has a great workhorse frame and dominated the Cape Cod like. I would't be upset if we got Beede but Hoffman is the guy I want. The Cape Cod League, what a joke, you're hanging your hat on that? The only reason it's on the radar is that it's convenient for scouts to see a lot of players. Like the AFL. How much stock you putting in that? At the end of the day, it's a tiny sample size, like any other tiny sample size. You know, like 5 starts for instance. Except JH's stint was even tinier - 4 starts and 24.1 innings. I'm not Hoffman-averse, but if you don't think he needs to show folks some better results to maintain his lofty draft status, you're not paying very close attention. Law alluded to his slippage three weeks ago, and he hasn't set the world on fire since that time. And I'm anything but "sheepish", preferring the highest risk guy who I think might possibly be available, Kolek, but thinking Beede may be impossible to ignore if he dominates the SEC. Our braintrust seems rather non-risk-averse in this regard, given the Sale and Danish drafts, so I'm confident they won't play it "safe", unless they believe that the "safe" pick will also be the best pick in the end. Sometimes it is.
  13. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 15, 2014 -> 10:21 AM) Isn't it really early to be writing off draft picks? Of course it is, and nobody's "writing off" anybody. Just think enough guys will pass him that he goes 6th or lower. Trea Turner has already "tumbled", according to many, but sure, he could easily climb back up, too.
  14. QUOTE (Knuckles @ Mar 15, 2014 -> 10:50 AM) Eaton CF Beckham 2B Abreu 1B Garcia RF Dunn DH Viciedo LF Ramirez SS Gillaspie 3B Flowerc C Sale P This lineup is very close to yesterday's predictions for OD. Bump Lexi to 9th, moving Conor and TFlow up 1, and I think that's the lineup I'd have until Beckham, Dunn or anyone else is moved or acquired.
  15. QUOTE (TheTruth05 @ Mar 15, 2014 -> 09:33 AM) At this point in ST, with this being a night game on tv, we should see Sale-Kershaw and opening day lineups(or close to) for at least 5 innings, which is great! On MLBN too for us out-of-towners.
  16. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Mar 15, 2014 -> 09:29 AM) It should be interesting, man. I am glad that I don't have to make the decision. We are in agreement that obviously the team needs a difference maker though. It has to be the right guy. I am just glad the buzz is dying on Trea Turner. I was never really a fan. Yep, it may be the most important pick we'll make for a long, long time. Gotta get this one right. One year of super-suckitude is enough for this fan, and I hope we never draft this high again. If they do take Hoffman, imo, it will be because they've specifically identified something easily fixable. Then again, maybe all the top guys turn out to be studs, and comparisons will amount to hair-splitting. Beede could be the "safe" pick as you say. Gray and Bryant have moved ahead of Appel in many minds already, though it's way early, and perhaps that is a reasonable comp to this situation. But Gray DID have the results, too, and perhaps fell only due to the Adderol test fail. TIFWIW, but a day or two before that test, my buddy in Houston, who's a huge Cubs fan, was absolutely certain the Stro's were taking Gray, and the Cubs would take Appel. The bastards lucked into Bryant, according to him.
  17. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Mar 15, 2014 -> 08:39 AM) This is not true. It's a projection business. Jeff Hoffman has the stuff and athletic profile to be an ace. Beede is safe which is fine as well. Kolek is awesome but already massive and his secondary stuff isn't great. Hoffman looks to have problems with his mechanics and repeating his delivery. That is a White Sox specialty. I would take Hoffman over Beede because of the stuff but if Hoffman is gone, Beede woudl be fine with me. Watch Jacob Gatewood as well though. The kid could be a superstar, franchise builder type. I don't disagree with anything you're saying here, but picking as high as 3, you want results as well as projection, especially with a college guy. Guess I'll just have to post the articles as they appear. Friendly wager says he's not top 5.
  18. Could the plane have made it all the way to unfriendly Myanmar, and getting help hiding it?
  19. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Mar 14, 2014 -> 08:01 PM) Only 3 of the runs were earned. 5 ER according to the box. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Mar 14, 2014 -> 09:01 PM) Highly doubtful. Still projects as the best pitcher in the draft. Highly doubtful. Rodon, Beede, and Kolek, at a minimum, would be picked ahead of him if the draft were today. Hoffman may turn it around, but you can expect quotes and articles very soon about him tumbling down draft boards. He'll still have plenty of fans, though.
  20. QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 14, 2014 -> 06:13 PM) Jeff Lockridge ‏@jefflockridge 33m #Vandy's Tyler Beede hitting 95 and 96 on the radar gun vs #LSU leadoff man Andrew Stevenson Those are numbers that will help his cause. May well not be available for us.
  21. QUOTE (fathom @ Mar 14, 2014 -> 05:52 PM) Another mediocre start for Hoffman That's being kind. He was shelled. Gotta believe he's on the brink of falling out of consideration at #3, barring a turnaround.
  22. QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Mar 14, 2014 -> 04:52 PM) Man, Marcus Semien just slashed that double in the gap. He's got a strong looking stance and swing. I wouldn't be surprised if he was a 15-20 HR guy in the majors at 2B. He's shown some decent pop in the minors. We'll see if he gets the AB's to do it. It will be a battle royale between him, Carlos and possibly Micah to see who gets the call after we move Gordo.
  23. QUOTE (raBBit @ Mar 14, 2014 -> 01:20 PM) I think we'll see CF Eaton SS Ramirez RF Garcia 1B Abreu DH Dunn LF Viciedo 3B Gillaspie 2B Beckham C Flowers I as well, and the concern is Abreu will be treated like an 8 hole NL hitter if Dunn starts poorly. And it may be the best config. anyway, though I'd probably flip Gordo with Lexi, on the off chance that Beckham has a good 3 month stretch in him. And perhaps put Lexi 9th and TFlow 8th.
  24. QUOTE (flavum @ Mar 14, 2014 -> 10:25 AM) If Nestor Molina is Marco Paddy's biggest mistake, I'm ok with that. Yep. It's just that we won't be able to judge him on the LA spects for several years, so this is what we got, for now.
  25. I'll be watching Cody Winiarski a little bit closer this season. Maybe a pen piece sooner rather than later. Interesting about the increase in velocity post-surgery. http://chicago.whitesox.mlb.com/news/artic...p;vkey=news_cws He's a pretty big guy, even though he looks 14 y.o.
