QUOTE (oldsox @ Apr 7, 2014 -> 03:57 PM) She'll love it. Make a reservation. Maiter 'd's (spelling?) name is Mario. Hell, I'm going to tell Mario I'm tight with oldsox. I'll either get the best table or a funny look.

QUOTE (raBBit @ Apr 7, 2014 -> 12:31 PM) Not a big fan of Beede and everyday I think it's more and more likely we end up with him. Hopefully Hoffman makes it to #3 and the FO prefers him to Beede which I think they do. I'm glad Hoffman is righting the ship performance-wise, and given the org's long term interest, I think he'll be the guy, if he's available. And as a college guy, he should be ready for 2016 when we win the WS again. I guess we should root for the HS guys to go 1-2, huh?

QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 7, 2014 -> 12:17 PM) Nice numbers for our 2nd round pick, Casey Gillaspie. http://www.goshockers.com/fls/7500/stats/b...?DB_OEM_ID=7500 Looks like he's the bigger, stronger kid brother, and a switch hitter to boot. We'll need some of that.

QUOTE (oldsox @ Apr 7, 2014 -> 01:35 PM) Venice Restaurant. 17th St and Wynkoop. Thanks, that looks like a good place to take the wife.

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Apr 7, 2014 -> 12:45 PM) Beckham is going to get traded if Semien keeps doing his job in the 2 hole. It's still real early. Given the slow healing of obliques, I'll predict Semien's got about two weeks from now to make an impression as a starter. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Apr 7, 2014 -> 02:12 PM) Kanny postponed tonight. Bummer. Want to see what Mitchell's got.

QUOTE (dasox24 @ Apr 6, 2014 -> 11:56 PM) Excellent stuff. I haven't kept up with the minors as much as I used to, so I now feel a lot more educated. Yes, excellent as always. One nitpick would be no mention of Winiarski, who I think the org likes, and may make it to the South Side before several of the mentioned. He's well ahead of Molina in the hierarchy at this point, imo.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 7, 2014 -> 02:11 PM) There was tons of old warehouses and other stuff that would have been easy to bulldoze back then. Yeah, they definitely blew it. Maybe we get another chance in 15 years? There are a few sites that could work.

QUOTE (oldsox @ Apr 7, 2014 -> 10:04 AM) Stay downtown, even if the hotels are a bit pricier. Try the Oxford Hotel. Best restaurant in town is right across the street from it, and the stadium is 3 blocks away. I'll be at the Weds. game. What's the restaurant across the Oxford oldy?

QUOTE (Ozzie Ball @ Apr 6, 2014 -> 09:21 PM) Inside the park HR for Trey. Last year's draft has a chance to be epic if guys like Trey and Engel can make it.

http://www.milb.com/scoreboard/index.jsp?c...mp;ymd=20140407 Charlotte - Leesman B'Ham - McCully (while Bassitt heals) and Doyle (back from Japan?), 7 inning twin bill due to rainout yesterday Kanny - Mitchell WS - off will be most interested in Mitchell's performance tonight. Would like to see Leesman at least handle the lefties as I think that's his MLB role, if he has one.

ESPN article on Sale, pitching, mechanics, etc.
ILMOU replied to Balta1701's topic in Pale Hose Talk
It's funny how all the articles a few years ago about CS were filled with colorful analogies about his throwing motion involving chainsaws, razor blades and bags of cats, and the imminent disaster that laid in wait. Now most of them make the comment that his delivery is surprisingly "clean". So much CYA in scouting, it's often hard to tell if when they're expressing an honest opinion, or merely caveating previous wrongness. -
QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Apr 7, 2014 -> 06:55 AM) For all of the talk before the season started about this team not having a chance to compete, we sure are taking the losses and hiccups badly. We're six games in, and we're 3-3. Let's give it a few more weeks. Yep. And it really isn't that surprising. I have to stop myself a few times daily from being too critical.

QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 7, 2014 -> 06:45 AM) Here we go... http://www.fangraphs.com/community/why-the...hould-relocate/ I haven't even read it yet, but the first thing I noticed is this dips*** doesn't know the difference between then and than. Really silly, imo, how the interwebs world feels the need to respond to the smarmy asses that are Deadspin. The Deadspin crap was purely fish-in-a-barrel. Of course an early April, cold weather, weekday, where it was raining all morning game is going to be poorly attended. They can recycle the same articles annually with the same stupid old jokes. Lazy and irrelevant. Deadspin fancies itself the anti-meathead site, but frequently promulgates the most meathead of opinions.

Gosh, I love bunting. First rule of bunting, if I'm the manager. Don't ask anyone to do it in any situation unless you KNOW they're good at it.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 6, 2014 -> 02:22 PM) It's not going to be a fun plane ride to Denver if Lindstrom blows his save. Sale might kill him. FWIW, intermittent snow and sunshine in COL today. Escobar's first hit of the season there. Just what the doctor order. By the way, Belisario was the pitcher warming up there just in case. 70 degrees plus on Weds afternoon and I'll be there!

That's the kind of AB that kills any of the confidence I might have been gaining in TFlow.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 6, 2014 -> 04:44 AM) The funny thing is everyone wants to rip Ventura for not managing every game like it is the 7th game of the WS, yet on the other hand say the Sox have no shot this year. If they have no shot, what is the harm in seeing what they have in Cleto? If he is going to be effective, he is going to have to come in and get surefire first ballot HOfers like Perez out. If he can't, he isn't half the pitcher Soxtalk pegged him to be less than a week ago. I do know one thing, Downs wasn't looking too effective yesterday. If he did what people wanted and it didn't work, there would have been complaints, and if you don't think Copper influences pitching decisions, you are in denial. I didn't have a problem with it, too bad he threw a hanger. Wouldn't have minded seeing Webb there either, in hindsight.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 5, 2014 -> 07:59 AM) And yet somehow Nestor Molina was even worse, haha. I hope Petricka can stick around the big club. Starting to like him a bit. Some nice arms going in the minors. Montas (May?), Lopez(June?), Bassitt (soon, McCully might be heading back to pen after 1 start) and Cose (?) all hurting, but not for too long, hopefully.

QUOTE (oldsox @ Apr 5, 2014 -> 06:28 AM) Mitchell Boggs imploded for Charlotte, snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. Maybe he's toast.

QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Apr 5, 2014 -> 05:19 AM) Yeah, one of the things that caught my eye from the games yesterday was Olacio striking out 6 batters in 2 IP. If the Sox plan on keeping him in the bullpen going forward, then he must have gained some serious velocity coming out of relief and they must expect him to move fast. Given his age, they did not have to give up on him being a starter just yet. And as we see with a lot of top relief prospects, keeping him in a starter's role at least gives him a chance to develop his secondary stuff. The Sox must feel Olacio can be a dynamic left-handed reliever at the major league level and pretty soon to make this change so early into his career IMO. Found that interesting as well. Still a young'un so maybe can become a starter again later at some point. A plus lefty reliever is definitely something of need regardless.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 4, 2014 -> 02:46 PM) He doesn't have center field skills and to say he should have caught a rocketed gapper flying with the wind is comical. Again, didn't say that - the effort was less than ideal. -

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 4, 2014 -> 02:41 PM) So people on here actually thought most fielders would have gotten to that? No, it would have been very, very difficult. But a guy who has shown center fielder skills shouldn't have those skills regressing at 22. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 4, 2014 -> 02:37 PM) Who would have thought, with all the talk of Garcia in CF, that Viciedo might end up being a better option in RF...? Yeah, the idea might at least light a fire under his ass.
