Jacob May's nightmare ongoing. Thought he was too contact-ey for this kind of slump. Barnum not so much a shock.
  2. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 21, 2014 -> 07:12 PM) Now we can play the game "what bullpen nightmare will reveal itself tonight?" Predict/discuss. I wonder if any team in MLB history has started out with six bullpen blown saves in seven tries? That's VERY hard to do with 2-3 run leads. Will the length of this inning mean the end for Danks at 94 pitches? Hope not.

QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 21, 2014 -> 05:01 PM) Davidson now batting exactly .200 with 30K in 72 total ABs. The leap from the PCL to the IL appears to be substantial.
  4. QUOTE (ptatc @ Apr 21, 2014 -> 04:53 PM) I don't totally disagree within reason. 125 pitches isn't too many as long as it isn't every game which it hasn't been. How about the 127 being a career high so early in the season? Does the timing of it matter, or no?
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 21, 2014 -> 04:18 PM) I think a helicarrier crashed into it. Had to look this up to get the reference. I know literally nothing about SHIELD or anything Marvel. My loss, I guess.
  6. Is the Triskelion still around? Decent corner bar about five blocks north of park.
  7. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Apr 21, 2014 -> 03:54 PM) Waiting to develop pitchers to fill out the rotation around Sale Pitching is incredibly risky. FIFY
  8. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Apr 21, 2014 -> 03:36 PM) Right. You talk to Rodon first and say "Here's our offer. Take it or leave it. We'll fast track you to the majors even, but this is our offer." If Rodon declines, THEN you move to Hoffman. Interpreting the consensus of what I've been reading the last few days, Hoffman may now be ahead of Rodon in most minds. But it's fluid.
  9. Maybe no 125+ pitch counts for awhile would be a good idea. Please be minor.
  10. Crawford needs to be a little better for the Hawks to make a run. Starting tonight.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 21, 2014 -> 10:56 AM) And if defensive metrics need 3 seasons to be accurate, doesn't that mean that WAR ultimately may not be accurate? To the extent that UZR factors into defensive WAR, this is true. The better metrics are coming and UZR will be on the pile with VHS and Beta.
  12. QUOTE (Jake @ Apr 20, 2014 -> 03:59 PM) Cole is an idiot and should be blamed for that whole ordeal. Pitchers should never talk trash and you never b**** at a guy for admiring a non-home run; he's already been punished by looking like an idiot. Looks like Russell Martin was a little too eager to prove he could fight somebody too. Tempers aside, though, Gomez looks a lot like a guy who is juiced up I didn't want to go there, and often find myself restraining that tendency. But, admittedly, it's part of the reason why I asked if he was always a 24Karat asswipe, or only since he learned how to hit. And since we've gone there, Anibel Sanchez is at the very top of my suspicion list. Gaining 2 full ticks on the FB at 29y.o. with a very different looking body than as a Marlin. Says he committed to a training regimen last offseason for the 1st time, but of course he's going to say that to get out in front of the inevitable questions.

9 BB in 4IP for B'Ham pitchers so far. They'll fit right in.
  14. I think I saw Jack Egbert getting off a plane at Midway this morning. TIFWIW.

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 21, 2014 -> 10:59 AM) Mitchell for Kanny. Dykstra and Danish after that, then TBA x2, per their PR guy. Kanny may elect to go filler-types for a few starts, because likely one or both of those slots is taken up within the next month by Brandon Brennan and/or Francelis Montas, who are both finishing up rehab in Extended ST. Matt Ball also a possibility, he's in AZ converting to a starting role. Thx. Jaye pulled after 2IP, 50 pitches. Wondering if hurt or just stinkage of performance. Thought I saw Montas slotted for Dash, unless mistaken. QUOTE (southside hitman @ Apr 21, 2014 -> 11:41 AM) Talking about walks, Trayce Thompson is a walk machine. He now has 11 walks and 12 strikeouts on the year. Would not of believed that stat coming into this year. Loving this, Trayce, please maintain.
  16. On a semi-related topic, I looked up Hector Noesi's recent and career stats. How is that guy even in the majors? Photos of JDaniels in coitus with Lord Theo? Even Justin Grimm looks like a terrible giveaway when you're trotting that guy out there.
  17. QUOTE (buhbuhburrrrlz @ Apr 21, 2014 -> 06:54 AM) he needs a nickname Pito, Oso, Yogi. Pick one.
  18. Already started in B'Ham, and Jaye already letting me down. http://www.milb.com/scoreboard/index.jsp?c...mp;ymd=20140421 Surkamp, Goldberg and ? in Kanny. Dykstra and Danish are going to have 9-10 days between starts, due to rainouts, if Kanny doesn't move things around.

QUOTE (Cerbaho-WG @ Apr 20, 2014 -> 07:58 PM) He is incredibly overrated. If he doesn't improve upon last year's K/9IP ratio, his future lies in the pen. If that. K's are kind of essential in the pen.

QUOTE (ScottyDo @ Apr 20, 2014 -> 09:03 PM) I've been told by people here who know way more than me that defensive metrics, as they currently stand, generally need 1.5 to 2 seasons to yield a reliable number (and even that's debatable). Specifically, UZR. Fortunately, UZR and it's inherent crappiness should fade into memory as the new tracking system is implemented. Not soon enough.
