Let's get back to .500 tomorrow. I'm outta here - Happy Easter all!
-
Johnson coming off his best inning at 87 pitches. Why would you give this pen an extra inning to screw it up?

QUOTE (Feeky Magee @ Apr 20, 2014 -> 03:06 PM) SEMIEN ALL OVER YOUR FACE That reminds me. Haven't seen much of Gallons lately.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Apr 20, 2014 -> 02:55 PM) Hahahahahahahaha f***in Hawk. What's he saying? I'm on Gameday.

Rangers playing sloppy - I'll take it and get to Det. with some positivity flowing.
-
Just 5 more lineouts and EJ can call it a day.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 20, 2014 -> 01:41 PM) Carlos Gomez is a total ass. http://m.mlb.com/video/v32232541/milpit-be...ples-in-the-3rd Has he always been such a tool, or only since he learned how to hit?

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 20, 2014 -> 01:07 PM) Well, the good news is...by not signing either of those guys, the Sox have helped make sure it only costs them a 2nd round pick to sign a FA next year. We'll see. I have a feeling that it will be close. 74 wins was the total for the 10th and 11th worst teams last year - I think we'll win tiebreakers by being worse than all but Stros/Fish in 2013. Could see some late September tankage - maybe we'll want another look at Axe after all.

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Apr 20, 2014 -> 01:01 PM) Hanson is pitching for Charlotte 3 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 1 K so far Too bad no pitch velo on MiLB Gamedays. Davidson is a concern.

QUOTE (oldsox @ Apr 20, 2014 -> 11:33 AM) Stan, did you know that he was originally going to play for Denver in the ABA, but then the merger happened and they took the pick away from Denver? One of the conditions of the merger. Did not know that, though I didn't live here in the McNicholls Arena era. I guess the ABA teams that survived were just happy to get a piece of the pie. Perhaps the opening scene of that Will Ferrell movie (name escapes me) was somewhat accurate.

QUOTE (Marty34 @ Apr 20, 2014 -> 09:51 AM) The Sox will not outbid the Yankees, Red Sox, Rangers, among others for the top of the free agent pitching market. After those guys, not much left. That's why signing a mid-rotation guy this offseason made sense. You act like the Yankees go whole hog on FA's every year - they don't. They did in '09 and this past offseason will very little in between. They have to address 2B, 3B and SS, among other positions. We can be plenty competitive for ANY of the available FA's, IF we choose.

QUOTE (MnSoxFan @ Apr 20, 2014 -> 08:50 AM) Their dad, Mychael, was a better athlete than either of the two kids, and that is saying something. He's the forgotten man from the 80's Lakers dynasty. Actually played more minutes than Kareem for a few of those years, backing up the 4 (Rambis) and 5.

QUOTE (oldsox @ Apr 20, 2014 -> 05:30 AM) No, it was not a smart move, quite the contrary. Expecting him to fail, as you put it, and then watching him fail, is not a smart move. Financially, it was certainly not a smart move. Colossal waste of money. It doesn't do anyone, teammates included, fans included, any good to watch that kind of performance. It makes someone look to be a very poor judge of talent. Not a smart move. Now if he had a non guaranteed conmtract, like Boggs, it might not have looked so bad. The only smart move was by Paulino's agent. It would be smarter to have an 11 man staff, since the FO long ago made the decision to carry 3 FB/DH. Far from colossal in the scheme of things, and soon to be a small footnote of the rebuild. But yeah, it appears it was a bad judgement call, just not a major one for a team that won't be competing in '14 - the bright side is it's only April 20, and we're moving on already, even if the fallbacks aren't anything special.

Encouraged by Abreu and Tank's ABs last night, at least. QUOTE (Bigsoxhurt35 @ Apr 19, 2014 -> 10:30 PM) Meh, were supposed to suck. I'm kinda over it since our pen is brutal. I'm with you, 35, and will be viewing this season through a prism of long-term optimism.

QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Apr 20, 2014 -> 05:23 AM) Have to love that Trayce has really improved his contact rate while increasing his walk rate. While he has not shown a ton of power this year, we know that will come. But he's a very quality defensive player and now is showing a very solid eye at the plate. Micah is just a stud. Hopefully both these guys continue to develop and are major-league ready for next year. Many people might disagree with this statement, but I feel like Micah is as good a player as Billy Hamilton. He just has not been hyped up as much. Numbers are not that far off. I'd like to believe this, but many times a player is substituting contact for power, especially one whose biggest obstacle to advancement has been his K rate. Still, it's promising. More telling to me, though, will be how he adapts to AAA if he's able to make that jump at midseason. As for Micah, his hit tool is starting to look legit and may have been underrated by some. The K/BB improvement is a great sign that he's adapting his game to maximize his loud speed tool. AND the wife thinks he's much hotter than even Matt D, so there's that.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 19, 2014 -> 02:39 PM) Yet your thread that was designed to try to embarrass Marty and me comparing Paulino start by start to Jimenez after Paulino made it through his first start, was wisely deleted. As for Cooper, if hitters don't hit , it was Walker's and Manto's fault. If the pitching is last in the league and your bullpen can't throw a strike, why isn't that on the pitching coach? a Sorry guys, didn't mean to incite anything. As for the bolded, Coop may have contributed to some dubious decisions in the acquisition of pitchers this offseason, and hasn't fixed any of them yet, so he probably does deserve some blame. However, you need to keep in mind that we've traded three key pieces of our staff since last July, all for, predominantly, position players, largely because of an organizational belief in the man to make lemonade from lemons, and to develop the young pitching in the system. That's a daunting task, and likely too much to ask.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 19, 2014 -> 07:54 AM) I would say he has a 37-39% chance of sticking at SS. ? what am I missing?

QUOTE (gatnom @ Apr 17, 2014 -> 03:38 PM) Am I the only one who views this as kind of a bad thing? Yeah, you have to wonder if he's pushing too hard, trying to get the highest draft position with the loudest tool of pitching.

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Apr 17, 2014 -> 01:25 PM) New ESPN Draft blog up on finding talent in unlikely places. http://insider.espn.go.com/blog/mlb-draft/post?id=1516 Hawaii - Talks about Kodi Medeiros, wicked slider, probably destined for bullpen with arm slot and lack of a third pitch. Nebraska - Jackson Reetz - “I think [Reetz] has a chance to be a very quality backstop,” an NL Central scout said. “I see two 55 [on the 20-80 scouting sale] tools in his hit and power, and he’s got one of the stronger arms of any prep catcher I’ve seen this summer or spring. Provided we don't get Rodon or Aiken at 1.3, this is the guy I want in Rd 2, hoping he falls to us, or that maybe we can trade up into Comp Balance round to get him. It would mirror what happened with Sale, and Danish, to a lesser extent. The rest of MLB's enslavement to conventional pitching mechanics is the market inefficiency we can exploit. But I don't know what the FO thinks of him.

QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Apr 17, 2014 -> 01:07 PM) So down to one LHP? I would guess the Petricka goes down soon for Purcey. Well, that should take care of the walks issue.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Apr 17, 2014 -> 01:06 PM) I personally think Veal is far better than Putnam. This move dissappoints me. I'm kinda with you here. Maybe better than the current version of Downs, too. But I'll get over it.

Olacio and Hansen could be the Pen help we need, but it won't be this season. I'm especially excited about the #'s Olacio has started off with.

Too early, imo, but somewhat encouraging so far.
