it'll be interesting to see if, assuming the sox are tanking at the ASB, guys like Konerko and Jim and Dye will accept trades to contending teams, to rebuild our farm system even more
-
Kenny also mentioned that an aspect of Lillibridge's game that caused him to struggle in years past has been identified, and the Sox organization will make the necessary adjustments to allow him to be successful at the MLB level, he's an above average defensive player that will steal around 40 bases if he plays a full year (per Kenny)

Voted CF because I think it's worth the risk to sign Furcal with that said, it's a moot point because we aren't signing Furcal

QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 04:20 PM) It's top speed is 82 MPH? 82? Livan must be on the juice

Jermaine would have to accept that trade, as the RSox are on his list of untradables

QUOTE (G&T @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 04:11 PM) What are the chances that Beckham can play 3rd? B&B were talking a couple hours ago about Beckham and felt he was going to be in the majors early in the year and playing 3rd. If that's the case, then it opens up the possibility of Furcal. from what i've read, beckham doesn't have the arm to play 3rd (or short..), and he was projected as more of a 2B, though the Sox are firmly planting him at SS in the minors until he's brought up

QUOTE (kyyle23 @ Dec 9, 2008 -> 07:00 AM) I think I might get a little bit sick if KW trades Dye and goes out and signs Baldelli I got a little sick just considering that

Yeah kenny, let's go young, it doesn't mean we're rebuilding if those young players are good right? We'll all just magically forget where all the payroll money went, even though ticket prices are going to be increased If that money isn't reinvested into the team, this is nothing more than a firesale Nobody here thinks the likes of Lillibridge, Nix, Betemit, Owens, Anderson, Marquez, Broadway, Richard, Poreda, Bailey etc. etc. are MLB ready to play 162 (30+ for starting pitchers) games, and I firmly believe none of those players are good enough to be part of a platoon for a whole season When furcal gets signed to another team than the white sox, these boards are going to be chaos

my prediction: we don't sign furcal or hudson, nor do we give any money to penny, lowe, or sheets rebuilding year, with untradable veterans playing out their final seasons with the Sox (Konerko, Thome, possibly AJ, Buerhle) i hope Kenny has some blockbuster deals planned though to prove my predictions wrong

is this what we've come to, serious discussions about corey patterson?

Rumors: Sox/Reds Talking Dye for Bailey Swap
joejoesox replied to Dick Allen's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (G&T @ Dec 8, 2008 -> 01:19 PM) Because he will be 36 by then and this team has much younger power potential. Who would we be filling the DH spot with that's young? It's looking more and more like the players we are keeping around are the likes of those who are cheap+signed long term & are above average (Alexei, CQ, Floyd, Danks, Fields), or we're stuck with due to no-trade clauses (Konerko, Thome, Buerhle), and we've dealt (or will deal) those players who are expensive, aging, or young & cheap and are reaching the end of their deal (Dye, Vazquez, Swisher, Dye) I'd wager if Thome hadn't reached his PA total in 2008, he'd be off the team by now -
Rumors: Sox/Reds Talking Dye for Bailey Swap

interesting if this wasn't a rebuilding year/fire sale, why would we be trading jermaine for young unproven pitchers and not keep him (he could obviously help the team compete in 2009), and resign him as the DH in 2010 since Thome will be gone? -
Cabrera Declines the White Sox's Offer of Arbitration
joejoesox replied to Jimmywins1's topic in Pale Hose Talk
So with Hall, Uribe, Cabrera, Crede, Vazquez, Swisher, and Logan gone, what is our current payroll? Have we dropped underneath the twins yet? Gotta love firesales. -
I think Cabrera is going to accept arbitration

QUOTE (SoxFan562004 @ Dec 6, 2008 -> 07:06 PM) going to hang out at my friends now and there's some discussion of getting it, so we'll see. I've always watched boxing and usually you get the better fights (excitement wise) on HBO or SHO. I'm a little torn on this match, Pac-Man has never fought above 135 I believe and he's at 143 in this fight and Oscar is at 145 and hasn't fought at the 147 limit in about 7 years, so it sets up perfectly for ODLH to win then do another mega money match with Hatton, probably at a higher weight than Hatton is use to (147). When I get a few minutes I'll poke around google and see if I can find an article I read over the last year or so about how MMA fans aren't really converted boxing fans, and they had some numbers to support it. I watch both and enjoy both. Everyone had DLH winning this fight with no contest It's almost laughable how badly Pac-man beat the old man up, it was at times grossly embarassing MP was landing almost 70% of his power shots, lol

QUOTE (LosMediasBlancas @ Dec 7, 2008 -> 02:37 AM) I'm gonna sound like a hater, but here it goes anyway. As a guy who did some boxing when I was younger and as a fan of the sport, I cannot believe that no one has figured out how to beat Pacquiao. The man has no jab and he doesn't put his punches together. He throws few combinations, or very few effective ones. What he has, is perhaps the best straight right hand in the sport right now, or maybe ever. He attacks early and keeps bouncing and moving FORWARD and putting all his weight behind every right hand shot. His opponents are always on the defensive, moving backward and taking that right hand bomb. The only chance you have at beating him is to be the aggressor, by moving him back and not letting him set up with a steady jab in his face. By keeping his feet moving backward, you take away all the power in that right hand. A fighter will never beat him, only a true, skilled boxer can. DeLaHoya was that guy.....8 years ago. Apparently you're not giving any credibility to Pacquiao's countering ability, he's a sickening counter puncher, especially when fighting slower guys Being aggressive doesn't necessarily mean it's going to work when a guy who is as fast as MP is (arguably faster than PBF, due to his smaller frame) can counter pretty much anything, especially slower fighters I don't think he'd stand a chance against Margarito because I don't think his power would be enough to phase Antonio (Let's face it, AM is a middle weight holding a welterweight title), when Cotto seemingly reconstructed AM's face and it was like there was a Cyborg underneath his outer shell, cosmetic damage and nothing else I'd pay 200 bones to watch Pacquiao and Margarito face off though, even though (i think..) MP said he doesn't plan on going up to 160

QUOTE (bschmaranz @ Dec 5, 2008 -> 12:28 PM) Even he essentially said that. He's glad to be moving to the AL where there's a DH. Only reason he said that was, not because he was a poor defensive catcher but, because he was blocked by McCann
-
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Dec 5, 2008 -> 12:28 PM) KW has no problem having a mediocre to bad defensive catcher in AJ, why would he care if Flowers is mediocre to bad? Mediocre to bad in the pros is not the same as mediocre to bad in A-ball
-
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 5, 2008 -> 11:35 AM) And you think this why? He is young and has a lot of room to improve defensively, however he's already played some 1B for the Brave's in A-ball He's also 6'4, 250+ pounds, I'd have a hard time believing his ultimate destination is anywhere else than 1B
-
QUOTE (R.J. @ Dec 5, 2008 -> 09:38 AM) Maybe Kenny is going to flip Cantu to the Padres for Jake Peavy.
-
isn't cantu a power hitting, low on-base guy? i know he's like 25 or 26, but would that be worth giving up fields and our only true defensive catching prospect?
