  3. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 15, 2008 -> 02:40 AM) And I'll continue to say that if Paul Konerko plays like he should - .850-.900 OPS - it will be the best offensive addition to any team in the majors, barring a superstar being traded. the sky is blue, i breathe air, point is, insert any hitter into our lineup posting an 850+ OPS and they'll help the team i don't see konerko being that guy though, he's not really shown me anything all year that would make me think he'll just suddenly pop out of the woodwork and start hitting .285 and getting on base at about 35% konerko's shown glimpses of his potential, but that's all they've been even blind squirrels...
  4. this is beane getting back at kenny for DLS & his TJ
  5. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 14, 2008 -> 03:46 AM) why would Paul Konerko want to go to the Mets, and why would the Mets want Paul Konerko? That doesn't make much sense for either side. can we sticky what 10/5 means, so people stop mentioning this? i see someone mention trading paulie literally 3 times a week at least
  6. i was quite pissed after this series with texas, but one thing i've been wondering with regards to pitching there it's gotta be pretty difficult to pitch in 100 degree temperatures, especially if you're not used to it perhaps this is why texas rarely ever fields a winning pitching staff, and why that team is so f***ing balls to the wall awesome in their home park hamilton has hit like ....most of his homeruns there (14 @ home, 7 on road..), and he hits at a goddamn .364 clip at home, .266 on the road TEX offensive stats home: .300 BA (.372/.503/.875) away: .266 BA (.336/.421/.757) interesting
  7. QUOTE (whitesoxbrian @ Jul 10, 2008 -> 09:05 PM) The only problem is- how do we avoid his 10/5 status? fixed
  8. QUOTE (CWSOX45 @ Jul 10, 2008 -> 08:55 PM) It's still a team game. That's my point. you're putting too much emphasis on the fact it's a team game. yeah, you have team mates and you've got more than 1 guy on the field for defense but baseball is different, and individuals are more responsible for outcomes of games in baseball than in any other zone-scoring sport (NBA, NFL, Soccer, NHL, LaCrosse, etc), due to the importance of individual performances that's what the previous guy was talking about, and I agree with him. baseball players are, and should be held more responsible for blowing games than say, a wide receiver dropping a pass. there's really no arguement here.
  9. QUOTE (CWSOX45 @ Jul 10, 2008 -> 08:49 PM) You're ridiculous. The same batter doesn't bat 9 times in one game does he? How about one pitcher? Having one outstanding player doesn't constitute a winning team. you're oversimplifying this, baseball is by far the least "Team Oriented" of all the major sports, it has more individual matchups than any other sport does
  10. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 10, 2008 -> 08:41 PM) Why do you find it unimaginable for a team with the 2nd best ERA in baseball to beat a terrible team in a 1-0 game? Was there something that occurred before Paulie's crappy play that made you think Mark was going to s*** his pants? We needed 5 more outs to win 1-0 and Mark was cruising. probably because this team doesn't win games 1-0, we haven't done it once all year long. add to the fact that the royals hit the ball hard and scored a lot of runs the last few games, it was only a matter of time they were going to put some runs on the board i wanted buehrle pulled out in the 7th inning for scott > dotel, i feel ozzie left him in for an inning too long
  11. i can't convince myself that paulie is actually helping this team win games this year, his average is brutal, he rarely hits flyballs with guys on base (but when the bases are empty, he somehow finds the way to hit deep flyballs to opposite field, go figure), he's been hurt pretty much all season and his defense and speed are non-existant i'd rather have a swish+ba combo at this point
  12. you're done paulie, back to back seasons of sub-mediocrity mark gets the L for this unbelievable i have no patience left for this guy
  13. did you guys honestly think we were gonna beat them 1-0? i mean, seriously this game was over a long time ago, kept telling myself "Royals are gonna beat us tonight because we're only scoring 1 run" we get to face soria, chalk up the L thanks paulie for all your help dawg~
  14. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 7, 2008 -> 04:37 PM) Depending on how Jose does to end the year, he might be the odd man out. Plus, Javy likes wetting his pants on the big stage. as far as I know, javy has only pitched 11.1 innings (in 1 season, 2004) "on the big stage", and all I can say to that is sample size, i'm not going to judge any pitcher and his "big game" mental toughness when he's only pitched in the playoffs once, games on ESPN/WGN aren't "big stage" games, please. i'd take javier in any of our post season rotations if we make the playoffs this year, over jose. jose's stuff just looks wishy-washy lately, like he's either got nothing left in the tank, or he's not pitching with any confidence. he also is probably the worst on our staff at facing a team like the twins or rays, teams that WILL turn every f***ing base hit into a double because 2B is a free pass when Jose is on the mound, he'd have to be nearly unhittable to counteract that like he was in 2005 against the angels, and right now he's far from that. he can't even locate his forkball anymore, nor can he throw it with any hard/biting velocity like he was at the start of the season if jose ends 2008 prior to the playoffs looking like april/may jose, then that's another story, but i'll laugh if that happens because i think it's highly unlikely
  15. crede is awesome at defense.
  16. those of you who say Stone will be back broadcasting with the cubs eventually, where do you get that idea? everytime I've heard stone discuss the cubs front office, he had absolutely nothing but bad things to say about it, he never once made it seem as if he were interested in working for them again
  17. QUOTE (SoxFan1 @ Jul 3, 2008 -> 12:08 AM) http://images.sportsline.com/u/ap/photos/C...00_1024x768.jpg awesome
  18. so basically, the radio broadcast is going to be terrible now thanks sox brass. leave it the way it is.
  19. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Jul 2, 2008 -> 01:48 PM) We have one of the best records in baseball. we overtook boston tonight in WPCT ! 4th best in all of baseball (Boston is 5th)
  20. QUOTE (Kalapse @ Jul 2, 2008 -> 09:45 PM) and Kenny Williams is not a Jedi. BS.

QUOTE (lostfan @ Jul 2, 2008 -> 06:16 AM) Ground ball, over the head of Jenks, Uribe, charges, throws... OUT!!! AND THE WHITE SOX HAVE WON THE WORLD SERIES!!!!! joe buck was definitely not that emphatic. i hate joe buck.
  22. i felt pretty bad for Matt tonight, that homerun he gave to Blake was 97 tailing in on the corner and blake just put a good swing on it, matt was pitching great IMO he was painting the corners with every batter he faced, that K to peralta was breathtaking, 97 on the outside corner, made peralta look silly
  23. IMO whenever a player moves from a team he's become familiar with, to a new team and a new park, there will definitely be an adjustment period in terms of both their hitting ability AND if they're a pitcher, their pitching ability I also feel that Cabrera is a perfect fit for this team, however I am unsure how he feels about signing a new deal with us. With that said, a healthy Richar+Lexi at 2B+SS would not upset me. It's just that OC finally looks like he fits in well with the other players, good chemistry with that said, I feel Swisher's worst days are behind him (sub .240 BA, low SLG/HR totals), I think he's getting used to hitting in the cell, as early on he wasn't letting that swing go and now he's just crushing the ball, taking hard swings at straight fastballs, i think he'll have a nice career in a sox uniform
  24. QUOTE (greg775 @ Jul 1, 2008 -> 01:18 AM) Tigers are scary. Twins are amazing. I think Detroit is the team to beat and will probably win the division. Hope I'm wrong. why, because they're on a hot streak? i understand hunches, but the things you would be basing your hunch on are a bit premature. the tigers have been hot over the past month, but that pitching staff will not carry them to the playoffs, at least ours has many believing it can given their peformance thus far all i'm saying is don't get carried away with a team on a hotstreak, at least wait until august to make predictions on how you think the teams will end up in divisional rankings
  25. couple days ago i heard it was 46% of runs scored are from the longball, so we're scoring ~the same amount of runs (slightly, anyway) via singles/doubles (loltriples) as we are with homeruns
