On 5/26/1968 Manager Eddie Stanky batted Gary Peters 6th in a 5-1 loss to the hated New York Yankees. Peters hit .208 with 2 HR in 1968. The BA of the players who hit behind him? Duane Josephson .247, Little Louie .264, Tim Cullen .200 Starting Lineups: Chicago White Sox New York Yankees 1. Berry cf Clarke 2b 2. Voss rf White lf 3. Ward 3b Tresh ss 4. McCraw 1b Kosco rf 5. 2. QUOTE(CanOfCorn @ Jun 26, 2006 -> 02:49 PM) Isn't that why there are 9 guys playing...and 25 on the team? Thome went 0-fer...but Iguchi had 7 RBIs! See how that works! Keep in mind that the Sox had only 23 Sunday night with Anderson and Riske suspended. Tough day to go 13 innings.
  3. I've updated a chart I made at the time of the trade to include Javy's starts this year. This calc's his ERA for each start, and counts how many games are quality ( Javy remains the little girl with the curl, when he's good he's very good, when he's bad he's terrible. This year is consistant with his past years, whether plays on a good team or a bad team. I think the White Sox are getting exactly what was expected.
  4. To be honest, I'm glad he will be back. I think Henry Blanco is better than Mary Barrett. Definately on defense and working with pitchers. Mary puts up better fantasy numbers with the bat but Blanco has a knack for doing what is needed at any point of the game, particularly against the White Sox. Might be a blessing if Barrett plays all three.
  5. The White Sox have 13 games left with the Tigers. They don't need anyone's help, a championship team takes care of business by itself. The White Sox fans don't need to support whinny cub fans screaming 'let's go cubbies'. I hope the cub lose every single game they ever play, including against the Tigers or in spring training. I hope every little league team named cub finishes last. I won't shop at cub food. cub fans have tormented me for half a century and I hope they wallow in misery, hopelessness and despair. If the Tigers can add to their woes, so be it. I voted for the Tigers.
  6. When ever Zoomer gets in a game he always does something you remember. It's not always good, but you always remember him.
  7. QUOTE(Capn12 @ Jun 12, 2006 -> 07:35 AM) Gamethread didn't really have anything good to offer, tbh!! ESPN was showing 92-94 I think, but Garcia was constantly behind, then the walks he did give up, were guaranteed to score on the meatballs he was serving up after that. The story of that game was Garcia gave up 4 walks and every one of them scored. Tracey's lead off walk in the 7th scored too. A pitcher issueing a walk early in the inning is the same as a fielder kicking a ground ball. The line between winning and losing is too thin to give the other guy extra outs.
  8. QUOTE(YASNY @ Jun 12, 2006 -> 07:00 AM) We're one of the better hitting teams in the league. Walker just got a 3 year contract. Summation: Dumb thread. Sidebar: IIRC Walt Hriniak lives in Texas, where the Sox are visiting. He gave Uribe a little 'seminar' last season that seemed to help. Perhaps he could spend a couple days with the team during this series. I know Walker is of the Hriniak style but sometimes it's good hear a different voice even if it's telling you the same thing. He and Walk get along very well so it certainly shouldn't hurt anything.
  9. QUOTE(SoxAce @ Jun 11, 2006 -> 04:33 PM) TLAK, I believe you got the wrong Anderson. Our Anderson was drafted by us, not SF. Good catch! Just a typo. The later choices aren't in the Baseball Reference transaction table and I had to add it manually. I fixed it.
  10. QUOTE(kapkomet @ Jun 11, 2006 -> 02:50 PM) Is Crede in today's lineup? Scott Reifert Scott Reifert says he's starting.
  11. Couldn't find Montero, I think Oakland originally signed him in 2000, but I could be wrong.
  12. The White Sox big 3 continue to lead major league baseball in combined HR and RBIs. It's been a couple weeks since we looked, despite Thome missing the Texas series they are still on top. Note that Ryan Howard has now matched Jim Thome's power numbers. Last night's games not included.
  13. One of the beer guys in 151 tried to card me a couple weeks ago. I lifted my Sox hat so he could see my grey hair. "Good Enough!" The whole section broke up.

    Man Soo Lee

QUOTE(Steff @ Jun 5, 2006 -> 11:22 AM) Family obligation yesterday... graduation party I think. Thanks for the info Stef! I'm glad its nothing bad. The Sox had such a fire drill going in his absence I was afraid it was some kind of emergency.
  15. Anybody know if something is up with Man Soo? I didn't see him at the game today. Didn't look like it was planned either. Don Cooper, himself, started Buerhle's long toss until Widger came running out and took over. Montero handled the between inning OF warm up until he went in the game, then Kevin Hickey, I think. And Art Kushner actually warmed up a couple guys until AJ went out there. Kush is pushing 60, God bless him. A lot going on because one guy is absent. Plus no bubble gum toss on Kids' day. .
  16. Timo has surfaced in St. Louis! XSOX
  17. I love the enthusiasm of these young fans. I have two White Sox flags on my garage, a Sox logo one I’ve put up during the season for years and a World Series Championship one. Yesterday morning I was working at my desk which is at a window that overlooks the yard. A little girl, who lives down the block, maybe 10 years old, had an even younger boy in tow and they jumped the fence to get into my yard. She takes him up to the Sox logo flag and they both take off their hats and hold them over their hearts. They put them back on and walk to the WSC on one and do it again! If I remember right, I think the little boy’s Dad is a Cub fan and am pretty sure the girl was propagating the White Sox faith among the heathen. Made my day!
  18. I didn't vote because I don't look at a season in those terms. As long as they play good all around baseball, I'll be satisfied. Don't kick games away, take advantage of the opponents mistakes and the rest will take care of itself.
  19. Detroit IP H R ER BB SO HR ERA Rogers 4.1 6 5 5 3 2 1 3.76 (L, 7-3) Earth to Detroit, your rentry is approved.
  20. QUOTE(SSH2005 @ May 28, 2006 -> 06:59 PM) There was a hint though -- Ramirez took his eyes off the ball and looked at Neifi Perez with a confused look on his face for a couple seconds. I thought Ramirez was going to drop it while the ball was still in the air. I didn't take Ramirez's confused look as anything out of the ordinary. -for him anyway.
  21. I've watched baseball for 40 years and I never seen an infielder camped under a pop up and the ball hitting him on the head before. I've seen guys get hit on goofy balls in the wind, I saw Melton break his nose fighting the ball but never one like this, where there was not a hint of him having trouble finding the ball until the ball found his noggin. I could not have written a better script. WEB GEM!
  22. I have to believe they will come back to the pack. Averages is averages. Look how well their starting pitching is doing compared to their career averages going into 06. Also, Maroth might be done if they cut on his elbow, which is why I added Jason Grilli.

    Sox Big Three

QUOTE(TitoMB345 @ May 25, 2006 -> 10:11 PM) I think you should add OBP and SLG. Those are the two most important statistics. If you don't, I might get around to it. I know all of them have SLG over like .550 and OBP of .391+, which is absolutely insane. These are averages of the top 3 OBP, SLG and OPS, ranked by OPS. OPS is shown in the player text.
  24. Must have heard a thousand times this week how the Sox 3-4-5 are the best in baseball. Being of an enquiring mind I checked it out and for once, the hype is true. This chart looks at the top 3 HR and RBI men by team (I don't have batting order in it).
  25. QUOTE(Dick Allen @ May 23, 2006 -> 07:58 AM) He has Contreras-like upside. He's had some great starts. 3 of them though were against the Royals, maybe the most pathetic franchise in pro sports. He's had some good years, but really even with his stuff, playing on some lousy teams has rendered his career mediocre thus far. He's seems like a right handed Floyd Bannister to me. A guy with great stuff, who could be unhittable at times, and might have a great year or 2, but will never put it together to the point that you think that he couldn't or shouldn't have been better. If you look at game logs though, he's consistent in the fact that he twirls gems a lot, and has the occassional games were he gives up 7 runs. You pegged it! Thats a great comparison. I just looked up Bannister's day by day to make sure memory served. Most of the time he'd tool along with 3 ER, 4, 2, 0 then POW! 9, 7 ... back to 3, 2... He was lights out at the end of '83 and the Sox rode him and the rest of starters into the playoffs. I hope history repeats for Javier, but to be realistic its more of a hope than a an expectation.
