  1. QUOTE(maggsmaggs @ Apr 19, 2006 -> 08:52 PM) yeah, i justed posted the jason johnson thing in the other forum. He is diabetic so you hope everything is okay with him. He looks fine now. The announcers said they probably just had to get some sugar in him. Glad he seems OK on the diabetes.
  2. In tonights game relief pitchers Matt Miller and Rafael Bentencourt had to be pulled in the 6th inning due to injury. Now Jason Johnson is receiving some kind of medical/trainer attention on the bench. Injuns are down 13-8.
  3. He says he's just looking at trade value. Could someone splain to me how Velander has a higher trade value than Brandon McCarthy?
  4. QUOTE(iWiN4PreP @ Apr 14, 2006 -> 05:02 PM) I dont understand why where benching uribe 2 days in a row. I have np with cintron and love him. but Uribe is are starter, and this is sorda disrespectful to him... Ah will see what happens + ozuna in left field is ugly, but good pods gets a much needed rest . My eyebrows went up when Uribe subbed for Cintron in the 9th in Detroit. Ozzie was telling him he was the better fielder. Now Oz is saying that I'm not going to just sit here and watch your profundo home run swing. If you want to be an everyday starter you need to start playing the right way, my way. The line up is already nursing Pods and Anderson, the White Sox need contact with the ball. Juan is hitting .167, Cintron .400.
  5. QUOTE(G&T @ Apr 12, 2006 -> 09:14 PM) This topic pops up every couple weeks. IMO, Singleton isn't that bad as a color guy but he can't do PBP which Farmer makes him do. That's bad enough, but on top of that THEY TALK THROUGH THE PLAY! One of them will stumble through some nearly pointless commentary then tell you later that 2 more pitches were thrown in the mean time. I still think Farmer is the problem because I doubt he knows that there is a problem. This is my pet peeve too. I got so mad at them during ST I wrote to WSCR that if Farmer and Singleton want to spend the afternoon talking softly to each other they should get them a motel room. In the mean time find somebody to tell us what is happening on the baseball field. They have improved greatly since the real season opened and I hope the progress continues. Next test of my patience will be in booth interviews, Farmeo tends to become oblivious to the game when he gets Freddy Couples or Jesse White on, and he doesn't have Rooney anymore to slip in the little P by P bits while he's playing Oprah Winfrey.
  6. QUOTE(The Critic @ Apr 10, 2006 -> 08:50 PM) If he thinks it's a good deal for him, then it is. He must've wanted to stay there to insist on a full no-trade, and 65 million is ridiculous money, whether or not there was MORE ridiculous money out there. He seems to want the security of knowing where he's going to play for the next 5 years, and now he has it. Hasn't the no trade really evolved into 'no trade unless I get to renegotiate'? I don't know what's in Lee's mind, he may really want to stay with the Blue Vermin. But you see lots of movement of players with no trade clauses after they are compensated for waiving the clause.
  7. To lend some background ... During his 15 year baseball career Robin Ventura made $67,135,000 in salary. To this add post season, endorsements etc. Wow.
  8. In related news: rotoworld: Locker room photo:
  9. I was mildly surprised that Oz used Uribe as a defensive sub for Cintron in the 9th innning. Sending in Anderson for Mackowiak was a little more obvious, with the big outfield in Comerica. The guys the White Sox sub FOR are better defensively than the starters on a lot of MLB teams.
  10. The outfield defense was also a big factor today.
  11. I know it's early in the season but does anyone know if Chris Rongey is a real person or do they just have a set of pat answers and adages on tape that an intern plays, like a Radio Jack DJ? After Dave Will's White Sox passion and Brian Dolgin's energy this guys a real dead fish. ZZZzzz. I half expect him to throw it Len Kasper.
  12. I voted I don't like Barry, and I believe he's taken steroids. But I don't think its right to suspend a player or erase his records for past actions. Under that precedent would you also take away McGuire's records? Would you extend it to Sosa because the corked bat? If so, would have to do Albert Belle who was caught during a game and Ken Harrelson who openly admits on TV that he corked bats. Forfeit all the Red's games played under Pete Rose? It’s a can of worms that should be left unopened. What is done can not be undone, the reader will judge the worth of Bond's HR records against Henry Aaron's or Babe Ruth's. I think you clean up the game on a go forward basis, as baseball seems to have been done.
  13. What happened on the play when LF Jason Michaels picked Anderson off from first base? I slept on the recliner through the rain delay and didn't wake up until Politte was in. Did the rookie pull a boner, Michaels make an outstanding play or was Harold watching the paint dry?
  14. QUOTE(chitownsportsfan @ Apr 2, 2006 -> 04:33 PM) Well Joe could argue that the the speed of light is 3mph too, I just wouldn't take his word for it. Any update on the weather from our good people on the South Side? I really don't want to go to the bar (no cable at my house) if the game is going to be washed out. Sunshine at Archer & Austin
  15. QUOTE(santo=dorf @ Apr 1, 2006 -> 07:41 AM) That one may surprise you, but IIRC, they were the first five man rotation to not miss a start in a season. (Look at the innings.) I haven't checked ALL of the record books, but I think it's safe to say that no team has ever had a 5 man rotation with every guy going 200+ innings, let alone 200+ innings with everybody having an ERA under 4. It has actually happened 3 times in the modern era:

    MLB Rosters

QUOTE(TLAK @ Jan 21, 2006 -> 06:29 PM) Here is a list of MLB 40 man rosters and Spring Training invitees. I was going nuts paging through all the team sites so I made one list I can use the browsers find button on. The answer to the question that started the quest? Wilson Valdez is a nri with the Royals. I switched this to Active Rosters. Not all teams have made the final cuts but it will straighten out when they play the first game. MLB Active Rosters
  17. If the gets used as a pure reliever for even a couple more weeks he won't be stretched out enough to start. Unless one of the big 5 is hurt long term, they would bring up Haeger or somebody for a spot start. Ozzie doesn't abuse pitchers.
  18. On the subject of players coming back for rings. God bless the 2005 White Sox. I hope everyone from that team gets the standing ovations they deserve. This board is so young that I question if most of the posters realize just what an accomplishment these players made. The White Sox were the ugly sister in MLB for years and years on years. My whole life. Nobody loved them but us. I am warming to the '06 team (I like what I saw in ST despite the record) but last years team, from Timo to Mark to Frank will live in my heart forever. If the boys repeat, or even string together some titles, or if they don't, the '05 group will still stay number one in my heart. God bless Timo Perez and his teamates.
  19. I see he's played consecutive games and will start the season on the roster, rather than the DL. This is better than I expected, good for him. It will be interesting to see how much they are able to use him. While I had hoped the White Sox would retain him I knew he would cost 3 roster spots any given game: his, the guy who runs for him and the guy who finishes the game at DH. He's going to have to really hit well, like he did last year, to last under these circumstances. A slow start could get him released.
  20. QUOTE(GoRowand33 @ Mar 29, 2006 -> 11:02 PM) love this now I won't have to have my shirt over my nose while I'm in the concession line That is one point even a smoker can agree on. I always thought it was backwards to ban smoking in the outdoor seats but allow it up where they made the food. There is going to be trouble over this ban, you can't see the game from the ramps and smokers are not going to just accept it. With the bigger crowds my old trick of going way upstairs to the empty seats for an inning won't work anymore (that way I could keep my scorecard up). I predict a lot of arguements and maybe some fights. While I'm not a zealot on the issue, I know a lot of guys who are. If you hassle them they will be perfectly happy to pop you one in the snoz and take the consequences. Hopefully some kind of tacit arrangement will come about all can live with.
  21. Thinking down the road. If Pods were out or ineffective for a period of time because of bad wheels, I think the guy in the organization who is best equiped to take over his role is Jerry Owens.
  22. I wonder if this means the end of fireworks? A lot of smoke there.
  23. From today's White Sox fan advisory. What a country, you can burn the American flag but you can't light a smoke at an outdoor stadium because of the INDOOR air act. Some things I just don't get.
