  1. QUOTE(ptatc @ Nov 3, 2006 -> 01:09 PM) I disagree. Rowand is a 270-280 hitter with 15-20 HR per year. I think that is very attainable for BA. It was a rookie year. He'll adjust just like all players must do to be successful. BA's 2nd half ave was 257. Rowand hit about 262 for the year limited to the nose and ankle injuries. BA's defense will also be better than Rowand over the course of his career. There you go being reasonable again! The vibe I get from watching Brian is he didn't earn his keep in the eyes of the manager or his teamates. The GM annointed him the starting Cf and left the manager with few alternatives. Then Brian just never pitched in, every at bat looked the same to me, no matter the score or the situation. I think he was just too green for a team defending a trophy, but he is certainly worth hanging on to, boy, can he run down a ball. As I've said, I'd bring in a legit CF and if Brian is as good as he and KW seen to think he is, all he's got to do is play better than him. I'd have liked that bar set higher than Luis Terrero but the off season is young and more can happen, so we'll see.
  2. QUOTE(The Critic @ Oct 31, 2006 -> 11:38 AM) Too bad for Cubs fans that he was absolutely invisible when they needed him most. The vast majority of his numbers last season came when the season was lost and done with, and he could officially shift into "play for the new contract mode". He's the Joe Murphy of baseball - nice numbers, but all of them empty and meaningless. Aren't you being hard on Erroramis? He was just hustling at the wrong time, he didn't want to clog up the bases by getting on, he has has a pulled ham string for two entire seasons. At least give him credit for using his head on the field. I hope the blue vermin resign him just to watch what Pinella does to him.
  3. For the record, here are the MLB rules:
  4. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 31, 2006 -> 10:11 AM) I think the best argument for dumping Rob Mackowiak is also the most simple one. If Rob Mackowiak is not on the White Sox, Rob Mackowiak will never be put in Center Field for the White Sox, which, for example last year, might well have turned into 5-10 more wins for the team. The Sox actually had a slightly better record when Mac started. This is from MLB press pass. Player......Sox Record Anderson 58-48 .547 Mackowiak 28-23 .549 Sweeney 2-1 .667 Owens 2-0 1.000 The real issue is neither of them played championship level ball, one couldn't hit and one couldn't field. Your 5-10 wins estimate could be spot on but you have to apply it to both of them. The team MUST get a legitimate major league center fielder.
  5. QUOTE(Shamrock4Life @ Oct 29, 2006 -> 10:54 PM) third day of the gm meetings, when are those again? and FA starts saturday, at least thats when player can file, right? when can you start signing? November 13-17, 2006: General managers meeting, Naples, FL December 4-7, 2006: Winter Meetings, Orlando, FL If I understand it right, there are no longer any restictions on signing players under the new CBA. No more Dec 7 deadline to offer arbitration, either.
  6. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Oct 27, 2006 -> 08:43 PM) Why the hell would the Royals trade DeJesus? He's one of the few bright spots they have on offense and defense as well. They're not going to hurt their team just to help the Sox. I meant that type of player, although I do like DeJesus in particular, they should get a guy who will give them at least average play in the field and the plate to set a bench mark that the kids would need to meet to get on the field. Maybe I should have said someone like a Chris Singleton in his day.
  7. QUOTE(greg775 @ Oct 27, 2006 -> 03:54 PM) Who says Anderson found his stroke? He gave me a stroke watching him take feeble swings at the ball and hit blistering pop ups. He's 1-7 (.143) so far with the Tiburones. A small sample, but not inconsistant with the larger sample we saw last summer. I really think the team should bring in a legit CF, maybe along the lines of a David DeJesus. Then if Brian wants to play, all he has to do is play better than him. I think it would help both Brian and the team.
  8. QUOTE(SoxFan76 @ Oct 20, 2006 -> 11:29 AM) I wouldn't be so quick to quit on Vazquez. He had 2 horrible months, June and July, with a 7.50 and 6.82 ERAs (respectively). Every other month he was under 4. More like 9 freaking years of this. Up and down, good games and disasters. How can a guy with his arm and stuff be 100-105 life time? Because he is a dog. He managed to be a sub .500 pitcher for a team that won 90 games. You can explain away one season, but he has been mediocre for 9 years, how can you expect him to magically morph into a different guy? He's a loser.
  9. I keep looking at his glove. The glove looks to be as long as his forearm. Unless he's a midget, thats more than 12". Its a moot point now, but I'm surprised no one challenged it.
  10. QUOTE(CWSGuy406 @ Oct 19, 2006 -> 09:06 PM) Anyone just see that play that Chavez just made? In the context of the game and its settings, that's one of the greatest plays I've ever seen. It was a fine play but how big is that glove? He looks like a jai alai player.
  11. QUOTE(Felix @ Oct 10, 2006 -> 04:01 PM) A&E's fall classic sale includes this lovely, lovely DVD set for a mere $25.. $45 off from the list price of $70. I didn't buy it when it first came out because of the bloated price, but I'm about to as we speak, and I suggest that you do the same. http://store.aetv.com/html/product/index.j...=&subcatid= It came, it came, it came! No more '57 channels and nothing to watch' for a while! Thank you so much for the steer, Felix.
  12. QUOTE(whitesoxfan101 @ Oct 17, 2006 -> 10:55 AM) Exactly. Heads has a better job at getting the A's manager job than Dusty and his whacked philsophies do. He'd do a better job too.
  13. QUOTE(whitesox1976 @ Oct 17, 2006 -> 12:27 AM) That's a terrible idea. Next thing they will do will be to get the World Series to end in November. The logical extension is to put the World Series in a warm weather tourist site every year similar to how they run the Super Bowl. Don't just pooh, pooh the idea. With an extra layer of playoffs the home teams would get just as many or more $ dates on their own field as they do now. Baseball could market a 10 day virtual Mardi Gras for the big rollers at the World Series. IIRC the playing clubs keep the gate from the divisional, the leagues take the LCS money and MLB takes the WS. Last year I hit the lottery for a game on the ALDS, paid through the nose for a connection on the ALCS and was completely shut out of the WS. I would have seen just as many or more games if Bud added another layer.
  14. Associated Press: Interesting. The farmer has already filed a civil suit and Uribe says he wasn't in town. The only things in the papers are contradictary, we don't know nothin' for sure but this is starting smell. I wonder if Juan can back up his alibi, hell of claim to make if he can't. Not a peep out of the Italian Navy Captian yet. Where's Peter Falk when you need him?
  15. Don't forget just what a good baseball player ARod is, it gets lost in the NY media. If the White Sox can get him for BMac and Crede, and they can afford him I say do it.
  16. QUOTE(SouthsideNorthsideFan @ Oct 15, 2006 -> 09:54 AM) Pinella wasn't talking about finding wallets. It was a metaphor - regarding their big money players & Scutaro. Lyons was insinuating that Spanish speaking folks are likely thieves. BIG difference. And learn to spell like a Sox fan if you're going to put that out there so boldly. Finding wallets is old time baseball talk for saying a player is lucky. Farmer uses it all the time on the Sox games. Learn to use lingo like a Sox fan if you're going to put that out there so boldly. As to Lyons, who knows what he had in his confused mind, he probably doesn't know himself. I find the Fox broadcasts in general and Lyons in particular very irritating, this is as good an excuse as any to get him off the air.
  17. QUOTE(jackie hayes @ Oct 14, 2006 -> 01:10 PM) I must have missed that last part. Did they say, was it before or after he molested them? just text messages.
  18. QUOTE(Greg The Bull Luzinski @ Oct 14, 2006 -> 03:56 PM) Several Years ago somebody emailed me a list of things that have happened since the Cubs last won a World Series (ie two World Wars, 13 Presidents, number of teams added to MLB). Anybody know where to find an updated version of that list? 1. Radio was invented. (Cubs fans get to hear their team lose) 2. TV was invented. (Cubs fans get to see their team lose) 3. Baseball added 14 teams. (Cubs fans get to see and hear their team lose to more clubs) 4. George Burns celebrated his 10th, 20th, 30th, 40th, 50th, 60th, 70th, 80th, 90th and 100th birthdays. 5. Halley's comet passed Earth - twice. 6. Harry Caray was born... and died. Incredible, but true! 7. The NBA, NHL, NFL, IHL, and ISL were formed. (Each of those Chicago teams have each won championships) 8. Man landed on the moon. (As have several home runs given up by Cubs pitchers) 9. Sixteen U.S. presidents were elected. 10. There were 11 amendments added to the Constitution. 11. Prohibition was created and repealed. 12. The Titanic was built, set sail, sank, was discovered, and became the subject of major motion pictures. The latter giving Cubs fans hope that something that finishes on the bottom can come out on top. 13. Wrigley Field was built and becomes the oldest park in the National League. 14. Flag poles were erected on Wrigley Field roof to hold all of the team's future World Series pennants. (Those flag poles have since rusted and been taken down) 15. A combination of 40 Summer and Winter Olympic games have been held. 16. Thirteen baseball players have won the Triple Crown. (Several thanked Cubs pitchers) 17. Bell-bottoms came in style, went out of style, and came back in. 18. The Cleveland Indians, Boston Red Sox, Arizona Diamondbacks and the Florida Marlins have all won the World Series. 19. The Cubs played 14,153 regular-season games. (They lost the majority of them) 20. Alaska, Arizona, Hawaii, Oklahoma, and New Mexico were added to the Union.
  19. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Oct 13, 2006 -> 07:35 AM) Zito and Matsuzaka are Boras clients. Jason Schmidt is 33, going to receive probably much more money than he is worth and I'm not sure if he's better than what we already have. And that pretty much does it for the free agent market. On the trade market? Maybe Dontrelle(not a fan) and who else? Besides the obvious trading of one starter to make room for Brandon is there really anything else Kenny can do to improve the staff? Thoughts? Ideas? Subtracting Vazquez will be a major addition in itself.
  20. QUOTE(WilliamTell @ Oct 11, 2006 -> 04:28 PM) What's another 4 minutes or so? More commercials on the pre-game shows. Ugh!
  21. QUOTE(Felix @ Oct 10, 2006 -> 04:01 PM) A&E's fall classic sale includes this lovely, lovely DVD set for a mere $25.. $45 off from the list price of $70. I didn't buy it when it first came out because of the bloated price, but I'm about to as we speak, and I suggest that you do the same. http://store.aetv.com/html/product/index.j...=&subcatid= Thank you Felix. I just bought myself a birthday gift!
  22. QUOTE(Kalapse @ Oct 9, 2006 -> 07:02 PM) Actually he hit .200 Yep, I counted is 0 for 4 against Minny on 10/1. Sorry.
  23. QUOTE(Balta1701 @ Oct 6, 2006 -> 12:31 PM) But in the 2nd half...Anderson improved. He finally learned how to swing for line drives, and his average started to climb. He hit above .250 for several months in a row. You are aware, I assume, that Brian hit .188 in September?
  24. The Yankees is dead Ha Ha Ha Just a couple weeks ago I took a call from a guy working the East Coast at my company. He belittled the flash in the pan White Sox the day they were eliminated. He reeled off the Yankee all-star lineup featuring 6 Hall of Famers and a Hall of Fame manager. He belittled Ozzie as a minor leaguer, etc, etc, etc. Said the only reason to watch the Sox was to see if they had any players that the Yankees might want later. Now that the Yankees is dead I can only say Eat Your Liver, [expletive deleted]! In the papers they are talking about dumping ARod, Sheffield and Big Unit, and firing both Torre and Cashman. Ha Ha Ha, suffer! Spend all winter crying and whining. Stew in your wretched self-pity. It couldn't happen to a more deserving group of guys, may the Yankees rot in baseball hell for a generation.
