  1. I agree. Podsednik going 4 for 6 with 2 stolen bases is HUGE.
  2. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 11:54 PM) This was just playing with fire... We all knew it would happen. I was sitting at a game in early august with keith, Tony, and Steve. I hadn't paid much attention to Hermy's stats, but I had noticed him getting hit very hard lately. -- When they showed his stats on the screen 21K's in 42 IP at the time. He had a ERA of 1.76. -- I turned to Vince (not the creepy old guy, another Vince) and said, I don't know how he's getting it done, but I'm enjoying the ride. We're probably gonna crash and burn on it though. It was only a matter of time before Dustin came back to earth. Same with Pods. He's at his established level of suckitude. -- You can argue that he's hurt, but I say that's a byproduct of the way he plays. (Just like Frank has to deal with foot issues because of his weight) Pods spends more time on the ground than anyone in baseball. -- That's a lot of wear and tear on a guy who is not exactly a YOUNG third year player. -- You wouldn't want Konerko out there flopping around, why Pods? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That's fine that you think that way and I appreciate you taking the time to actually say something instead of some silly one liners. I'll keep thinking that Pods is way better than this half of the season has shown. Peace.
  3. QUOTE(southsideirish71 @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 11:44 PM) So basically by your logic, if a guy hits 350 in the first half, then hits 220 in the second half and then kicks the ball around in the playoffs its okay, because he was part of our success in the first half. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> And where do you derive this logic from? I never said it was ok that Pods has sucked ass in the 2nd half. He has been horrible. But it's well known that he has a nagging groin injury. That'll put the kaybosh to any heavy duty base stealing, I'd say. The biggest thing I want Pods to do in '06 is stay healthy. When he's healthy he's lethal.
  4. Still can't believe people overlook his first half in favor of the second half. You can't do what he did in the first half and be a bad baseball player. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 11:29 PM) Pods is 6 for 20 since july 23rd. He sucks. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I suppose using your logic, whatever happens lately for a ballplayer is how it will be from now on. Contreras will be lights out the rest of his career. Hermanson's back will continue being bad and he will blow save after save. Joe Crede is going to be Mr. Clutch .300 hitter the rest of his career. Pfft.
  5. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 11:13 PM) SBs are overrated. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Not to the opposing pitchers. I saw too many pitchers laying meatballs right down the plate for Iguchi, throwing pitches to first with a bit of giddyup but the ball ended up in the stands or near the walls. I saw too much of Podsednik taking a huge ass lead while the pitcher just crumbles in the 1st inning. I saw too much of defenders rushing a throw to get Podsednik just to realize they focused more on velocity than accuracy. All of this because they feared little ol' powerless worthless Scott Podsednik getting on and stealing a base.
  6. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 11:11 PM) Our winning percentage with one of the greatest right handed hitters in baseball is much better than it is with Pods. Qwerty and I hated the Pods for Lee trade.... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Read that thread, I was also there saying that this trade sucked with 3/4 of the other people. Then, someway during the season everyone fell in love of him because he drove pitchers insane. Maybe not everyone, but you get the gist. A definite majority was in love with him.
  7. QUOTE(SleepyWhiteSox @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 11:08 PM) Definitely Frank, but also a bit of healthy Pods. It seems like a long, long, long time ago, but I still do recall instances where we scored early on because of him. I do miss Frank though... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Remember when we held a lead in like the first 30 or so games of the season? Yeah, tell me Pods means nothing. Frank meant something too, though I will agree. But Pods means a lot as well.
  8. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 11:01 PM) Not I. He's always been among the most overrated baseball players in the game. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Hahahaha, ok. That's why we started sucking once he went down.
  9. QUOTE(Gene Honda Civic @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 10:55 PM) I don't recall everyone embracing the waiver wire castoff with open arms. Maybe they are just pulling an I told you so... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Oh please. Everyone in Soxdom woulda paid 5 cents to suck Pods off in the first half. Now people are ready to dump him for nothing.
  10. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 10:52 PM) Because other offenses may not hav Konerko/Crede/Uribe/Iguchi in the infield that could hit for almost 100HR's in a season. Look at the NL for example. Teams like Arizona and Florida rely on their corner OF's for production in the middle of the lineup. It's easier to find a better power hitting corner OF than to find a power hitting IF for example. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Our whole infield can hit for power. I'm not too worried about one of our corner outfielders not hitting for power. Since when do all teams have to be the same anyway?
  11. Funny how some are so quick to turn on someone who has a well documented nagging groin injury (which really sucks for us, by the way). He is noticeably slower than he was earlier in the season. Here's to a happy, healthy Pods in 2006 to prove all these dopes that leadoff hitters are very important.
  12. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 10:31 PM) His offense? He is terrible with runners in scoring posittion. Without his legs his useless. How many triples does he have this season for a guy with his so called speed? How many corner OF's in the MLB have 0 HR's? And an OPS higher than .705? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Who the hell cares about that. Not all players are about power, dude. I really would have expected someone with your knowledge to know this. I don't know if you watch Sox gams through the internet or whatever, but Pods was freakin' amazing in the first half and there is a reason he bats #1, so he can get on base and steal bases which he did perfectly for a half a season until his injury! Does it matter if he plays OF, IF, C? Not really, you can get power players for any position nowadays.
  13. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 10:10 PM) Make no mistake about it..Pods ain't going anywhere, I'll guarantee you that. We need to upgrade one half of the left side of our infield, both are fantastic defensively but just to inconsistant with the bat. Also, we need to upgrade the dh spot and I think offensively we'd be good to go. I'm also really starting to like the idea of Anderson over Rowand in center next year as Aaron could definitely land us something nice in a package with maybe Damaso included. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> I could deal with Anderson over Rowand too. I like ANderson. That 2 homer game or whatever showed something to me. I can't wait to watch him in Spring Training next year and see how he does. I'd love for him to become some sort of stud that we need. Here's food for thought, anyone think the Cards would be interested in dealing Scott Rolen? Look at how well they do, even without him. Just a thought.
  14. QUOTE(Tony82087 @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 10:00 PM) Sorry Yahtzee, the Sox are not in the position to just trade for a "superstar" and problems solved. They need a few things added to the O, and with a contract like Heltons, they tie themselves up for a while. Kenny has alot of work to be done, but I have faith he can get it done. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> One consistent hitter like Helton this year and we have 99 or 100 wins and this division. I think it's fair to say that because there have been tons of games where we rallied late or fell short or just plain fell short with runners on. I mean, yeah it'd be nice to get more consistent hitters, but they aren't a dime a dozen. How much more can we add to this offense? Do you want to get rid of Pierzynski, or Dye, or Uribe for anyone better? I personally don't want to lose AJ's attitude, Uribe's defense, or Dye's... well just him. What about Crede, what do we do with Crede? Do we attempt to find a better hitter with worse defense? 3rd base is definately an area we can improve and not worry about losing too much. Podsednik I still would really like to keep. He was just freakin' amazing in the 1st half and if he didn't get injured he'd still be amazing. You don't steal 50 bases in one half by sheer luck.
  15. Can't we go to arbitration with AJ and Jonny? I think I remember hearing about this but I'm not sure, I know Jonny can but AJ I'm not sure. If so, they shouldn't be getting raises that will break the bank. As for Konerko + Helton... well that's pretty farfetched but that's something I could die for. Them platooning at 1B and DH is ideal as all hell but then I'd have to concede the money thing. That's a lot of money. I'd take Helton over Kong any day though.
  16. QUOTE(3E8 @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 09:48 PM) Currently Dunn is worth one more win per season than Helton. Add that Dunn's 27, Helton's 33 with one of the worst contracts in the league, and the choice is obvious. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You people and your crazy stats. I dunno if I'm the only one, but I cannot AT ALL attach a stat like "W" to a hitter. Look at the simple stats and I say Helton. He's hardly ever injured so I don't think his age will be a big problem. Yes, his contract is big but I think it's one we can afford to bring in. How much more do we really need if we land Helton? Maybe 1 bullpen arm, but that's it.
  17. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 09:40 PM) Now here's the all important argument. What's more important. Dunn's higher OBP and power numbers, or a guy like Helton's higher BA? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> .250 average? No thanks. That OBP is pretty sexy but walks don't drive in runs (unless bases are loaded). Also, he still K's a whole bunch. Consistent hitters, that's what I think we need and I'll stand by it. Dunn is basically Konerko with a higher OBP and lower Average and lefty. Ok then maybe he's not Konerko.
  18. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 09:27 PM) Lets not forget here that this team does have 94 wins, this has been rough as of late but this is still a very good team and the reason is because of the pitching. I was all for trading Contreras but with the way he's carried this staff the past 2 months I want to hang onto this guy and the other 3 were never on my trade list, those guys need to stay. We can upgrade our offense without downgrading the pitching, actually our pitching should be better next season. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Yeah, we do have 94 wins. But we also have a dynasty breathing down our necks. Cleveland is here to stay for the next 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, 10 years until they decide to do it all over again. We need to be able to compete in this division and to do this we need a superstar. Don't get me wrong, if we didn't get a superstar we'd still compete fine in this division, but it would be a lot harder.
  19. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 09:27 PM) Nomar Garciaparra. Erubiel Durazo. Reggie Sanders. Mike Piazza. Daryle Ward. Jacque Jones. Preston Wilson. Jeromy Burnitz. Most likely if it's anyone to DH from FA it's gonna be one of these guys. The cost for Helton is gonna be too great. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> :puke Those guys aren't any more consistent than the players we already have. We need a bonafide superstar. I'll stand by this because this offense is way too inconsistent and if we had just 1 guy who didn't slump 1 week hit 1 week slump next week hit next week, but rather get 1 or 2 hits a day with a few o'fers mixed in, instead of o'fer-the-week, we'd already be in excellent position to win the division next year.
  20. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 09:24 PM) I actually love Helton, yahtzee. But that drastic drop in power at coors just scares me, don't forget that coors will add points to your average too. If his contract wasn't enormous I'd be all for it but he just worries me, that is all. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> That's fine but The Cell is also a hitters park. He may only hit .310 here but that's still far and away better than anything we have. We don't have one single .300 hitter, and we need one real bad.
  21. QUOTE(DBAH0 @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 09:21 PM) Colorado have repeatedly said they won't deal him, and if they will, he has a lot of $$ on his deal, plus they'll want some real good prospects. And as Rowand just said about the power numbers at Coors. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> You said it yourself, the contract. I find it hard to believe they wouldn't make or attempt to make a deal especially since the Great Prospect Dealer Kenny Williams would probably make them an amazing offer. Offer up some of our pitching. Garland, Garcia, McCarthy, Contreras?
  22. QUOTE(Rowand44 @ Sep 27, 2005 -> 09:20 PM) Helton's power numbers just died this year for whatever reason and that contract scares the hell out of me with the way his power took a hit this year. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Any better suggestions? Furcal? Giles? Any FA's out there look good? No. We need a .300 hitter. That's all there is to it. f*** power. We have plenty of it. Helton's hitting f***in' .323, that's beautiful and what we need. A consistent hitter. Power will come, but we need consistency.
  23. Todd f***ing Helton. Make this trade, we need a superstar. He's the man. The Rockies should be willing to listen to deals.
  24. And Rich McKinney told me: "I won't get banned at any other message board, you guys are just idiots." :rolly So says he. Pain in the ass, huh?

QUOTE(DonkeyKongerko @ Sep 18, 2005 -> 10:35 PM) So what you're really saying is you're never buying a Nintendo ever again? <{POST_SNAPBACK}> Probably. I'm in a mode right now where I like computer games and classic games. I bought a Sega Genesis the other day with a handful of games, I'm playing the hell out of Super Mario 3 on NES, and I'm planning on getting my SNES back from my cousin soon. But yeah, Mario Sunshine I couldn't stand that game. It strayed way too far from what Mario is. I hate shooting water. I played Ocarina of Time and beat maybe 3/4 of the game then I got bored. Metroid Prime was fun but beat 1/2 the game on got bored. I'm stuck between the PS3 and Revolution. If I was a big Halo fan then that would make matters worse, but I don't like Halo so it's all good.
