Winter Meetings Chit-Chat
No, Rotoworld said that he's looking for a 2 or 3 year deal. Jon Garland-S- Angels Dec. 8 - 6:09 pm et Jon Garland is looking for a two- or three-year deal, and his agent says the Orioles are among the teams interested. Baltimore makes plenty of sense as a destination for Garland. The Orioles don't want to pay top dollar for starters, but they do need an innings eater or two. Garland has quickly gone from overvalued to undervalued after a disappointing 2009 season. He's not great, but he's just 29 and he's never been hurt. He might be better off going the Kyle Lohse route and taking a one-year contract this winter.

How about signing Garland to a contract? Apparently he is looking for only 2 or 3 years.

Tigers acquire Gerald Laird
Every time I remember playing against Laird, he was launching home runs off of our pitchers. I hope this trend as a Sox killer changes with his uniform switch... (it worked for Dye HAHA)

Stark Says Sox Signed Van Benschoten
I guess I read somewhere that VB had an injury to his non-throwing arm in 2005 that totally ruined his swing forever. It's a shame it happens so easily...

A question for Sox fans...
Justin Morneau is really good but when he was slumping in September, Mauer didn't help much to pick up any of the power slack that is left when Morneau was struggling. Thusly, the Twins were not a very scary team in September. They got beat by chump teams with nothing to lose. I'd take a 2-3-4 of Mauer Quentin and Dye or Mauer Morneau Dye but not any 3-4 that includes Mauer. Until Mauer develops power along with his superb batting average, he would not be the best hitter on the White Sox or the Twins, and not our ideal 3-4 hitter, in my opinion.
-
A question for Sox fans...
This is where I disagreed with some. I'd argue that if Quentin comes back next year and performs like he did in 2008, then he is a player capable of being a perennial all-star/MVP candidate as well as a household name and franchise player for the White Sox for many years to come.... Mauer is very similar to that description, however he just doesn't hit for good power too, like Quentin. 44 extra base hits from the 3-hole is not very spectacular, in my opinion. What do you think? Am I totally off-base expecting my 3 and 4 hitters to hit for good power and good average, like Quentin and Dye, and not just good average?
-
A question for Sox fans...
Sox fans, I was arguing with some friends the other day about where exactly I would bat Joe Mauer if he were playing for the Chicago White Sox. The whole argument started because I said that I liked the 3-4 combo of Quentin and Dye and I think it's possibly one of the best in the league. I then said I like a 3-4 of Quentin and Dye over a 3-4 of Mauer and Morneau. Basically it ended up with me saying I'd bat Mauer 2nd or somewhere else because of his superb bat control and knack for getting base hits and walks. I also said I'd prefer Dye in the 3-4 hole because he can hit for good average + good power (he had about 30 more XBH than Mauer)... whereas Mauer who hits for REALLY good average but really not that much power would be better suited in more of a table setter role, or cleaning up after the 3-4-5 hitters, but mostly #2 because his bat is just so good. Is this even a logical argument, or would the majority here bat Mauer 3rd or 4th if he played for us? Also, where do you think Ozzie would bat him and would you agree with it?

Anyone try an energy drink named Cocaine?
Whoa whoa whoa I'd start recommending marijuana over any of that, including acid. Acid makes you go insane. Don't do it.

Anyone switch sides?
Well he's no longer a candidate for presidency so I don't see how any of that stuff you mentioned applies anymore. Ron Paul is organizing something greater now. The presidential campaign was just a front to get the real business started, his Campaign for Liberty. If I had to guess at the goal of this organization, it would be peaceful revolution. I have no problem with that. What Ron Paul says is unrealistic because for the past 100 years we have been creating and growing a system that is just impossible to magically fix. Obama can't do it, McCain can't do it and neither can Paul. Someone like Ron Paul for president would have been a good start, but honestly you also need to do a complete rehaul of Congress as well for anything Ron Paul would like to do to become achievable. I would say that in that respect, Ron Paul would be as mediocre as anybody else because he can't really do much on his own. So, in that regard I am moving on from these meaningless debates and squibbles between 2 guys who cannot fix our country. Obama will be the president, he won't be that good, and then like kap says 2010-2012 is the time period for a great re-awakening which hopefully would mean we are ready to finally evict the fakers who control our country. But in the mean time we are still enamored with Barack "Talk We Can 'Believe' In" Obama and his meaningless arguments with John Wayne McCain. The mainstream media and television have controlled our minds and it seems the majority of Americans have bought in to the 2 party system, which is really just a front for the elite to seem like there is actual bickering and disagreement in Washington when in actuality no matter who is president we are going down the same path and that is not changing.

Anyone switch sides?
If you've been a Ron Paul supporter, I'm surprised you're even settling for the mediocre choices we are given. Personally, I'm much more interested in what Ron Paul is doing nowadays rather than who wins a silly presidential election. McCain or Obama, we're screwed either way. Their campaigns will spend millions trying to convince you otherwise, but I've wised up to that BS. It's time to clear out the system and give it a reboot! Erase everyones debt, let them keep their homes, and start over. Taking care of a family is much, much more important than some fraudulent credit system created by fraudulent credit people. Their problem should not end up being our problem as it is becoming. American people are way too tolerant of this, and a lot of them honestly need to wake up and tell the government to STFU and restart. Re-do the Judicial, Legislative, and Executive branches with all new people committed to making the US a good country.. unlike current representatives. I have a feeling that this will become a much more common thought process when everyone realizes Obama was not as advertised (just like Bush) and we end up spiraling into more and more of a world empire until we finally put an end to it.

Jenks...and 99 mph?????!?!?!
One must also take into consideration that this may have been planned by Bobby Jenks... throw 95 tops most of the year and be mostly a finesse pitcher and get people out by making them make bad contact, but then at the end of the season in the big games... turn it back on and completely fool the opposition while they think you transformed yourself into a finesse pitcher. I actually kind of suspected this earlier on in the season, and it's odd that I was right.

Media Bias: Perceived or Real? To what extent, and where?
There is no such thing as a right wing or left wing media bias. What must be understood is, that in the grand scheme of things in America, there is little difference between supposed Democrats and Republicans. They may differ on a few small and somewhat important issues, but in the end it will be how it was when Bush promised us small government, deficits going down instead of up, and all that other nonsense he used to get votes. Bush was not as advertised. And I have huge doubts that McCain or Obama are as advertised. If the powers-that-be see the ability to lie to the American people during an election once, I see no reason for them to stop or discontinue it. Tying this back into the Media Bias discussion, there is most definitely a media bias in this country! But it is not geared towards the right-left argument. It is just a plain old, simple bias. Seriously, when most-important nuggets of information like "Georgia's invasion of South Ossetia prompted Russia to counter-op Georgia" are left out of the stories, you got to feel that there is a bias and a problem in this countries media! If it weren't for all the great alternative news-sources on the still-unregulated internet, I would have never known such a thing. I'd be exactly what they want, a person who takes what the mainstream media (big newspapers, TV) as the end-all be-all of news information and think that Russia was being the big, bad bully when it was actually Georgia who started the conflict! Let the American people decide for themselves. Instead of hyping this up as Russia provoking us into another Cold War, why not lay the facts straight and let us decide for ourselves? Why must we ingest this information that is already digested by others? Certainly a lot more people wouldn't feel as threatened by Russia if they knew that the attack was provoked. They'd feel more threatened by America. Our safety is being sacrificed when we allow Georgia to commit such acts of genocide. Now we're furthering the provocations by placing anti-missile bases in Poland? Why are we poking and prodding Russia so much? Doesn't all of this nonsense from our leaders put the American peoples safety at risk? These are the kinds of things we should be reading about in the papers and watching on the television.

Can Doug Eddings work all sox games?
Aybar had the perfect opportunity to tag him but he threw it to someone else instead. Then he subsequently failed to get out of the way of a sprawling, falling backwards AJ who was attempting to turn around. Aybar could have just tagged him and it would have been gravy, but he passed it off and didn't change his direction enough. Young kid mistake. AJ has a right to his space on the basepaths... especially against a defender without a ball.

Russia v Georgia
ALso didn't see or hear Georgia going to the UN for a diplomatic resolution for their invasion of South Ossetia. Russia should go to the UN to fix anything, but Georgia shouldn't??? Surely there was a more reasonable way for Georgia to take care of South Ossetia that didn't include genocide... now if you would put away your Russia hatred for a moment, you would realize that Russia is doing an honorable thing sticking up for their people... the South Ossetians needed help because they can't match the US-aided Georgian military.

Sox Loser
Dotel has an explosive fastball. That's his out pitch. That's what he usually throws. For some reason his breaking balls just hang over the plate saying HIT ME, HIT ME... he usually gets in trouble when he's throwing breaking balls... I think last night he didn't have that explosive fastball that literally rises. Instead, he had a straight, hittable fastball. It's up to the managers to notice when a guy just doesn't have his stuff one night and get someone else.

Russia v Georgia
You know who else doesn't give a flying f*** what the world community thinks? The USA. Hey, let's let Georgia invade South Ossetia and destroy hospitals, kill civilians, shoot at the press, etc. Hey, let's go put some missile defense systems in Poland. Hey, let's go "liberate" Iraq. hey, let's force 'democracy' on sovereign nations around the world. The only place the USA isn't being held accountable for these actions is in... hmmm... the USA... lazy Americans sit by while George "I Wish I Was a Dictator" Bush runs rampant around the world with his globalist views... Ooooohhh, that's strong. And everyone wonders why the rest of the world hates us.

Russia v Georgia
No problem. I just thought that I'd offer you all some opinions from the other spectrum. Personally, I don't believe much of anything that our press says, so I'm more inclined to believe the Russian press over our own. Merely a difference of opinion. The reason I'm upset about this whole thing is because Georgia launched an aggressive attack on South Ossetia and Russia immediately jumped to their aid and launched an aggressive attack on Georgia AND is currently providing a lot of aid for South Ossetia survivors! And our press just says that Russia is the bad guy, they are ruining their relations with Western countries, blah blah blah. Of course Russia would jump to the aid of South Ossetia, their population consists of mostly Russian folks.
