  1. FutureSox post on the playoff races. Dash and Voyagers in, Intimidators in a tight race.
  2. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 23, 2010 -> 08:10 AM) His stuff isn't good enough to totally dominate the NL, but an ERA in the low 3's in the NL is, IMO, entirely reasonable for him. Which is fine. I'm not threatened by that. Look what Garland is doing at age 30 with somewhat poor peripherals. Jackson seems to be capable of putting up a sub 4 ERA for us.
  3. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 19, 2010 -> 12:24 PM) Except that the National League is far better than the International League, and you know that. I don't think anyone is suggesting that Dan Hudson is as good as he's been in his 4 starts with the Diamondbacks, but I don't think anyone is suggesting that Jackson is going to be as good as he has been in 3 starts with the White Sox either. I also don't think it's fair to compare John Ely and Dan Hudson. I never thought that Ely would be stick. Right handers whose fastballs can't break 90 MPH usually don't fair well, unless they're throwing knuckleballs. Dan Hudson has averaged 93 MPH in his time in the majors, both last year and this year, so he actually has some velocity to work with to keep hitters honest. Personally, I think Williams should have taken your advice about not rushing to judgment after 4 starts. Hudson's track record in the minors suggested he was going to be a better pitcher than the mediocrity he'd thrown with the White Sox, and Williams panicked and traded him for Edwin Jackson. I think the players have similar value for the next couple years. My problem with the trade is finances and finances only, but people are going about this all wrong by looking at Hudson's few starts with Arizona so far. With Hudson, the judgment has to be made over a year or so. Hitters will adjust to him, his stuff isn't good enough to dominate the NL like this. In the short term, Jackson has been as good so there really can't be a complaint in terms of the quality of player we received for Hudson. Not yet at least.
  4. Charlotte lost 10-8 Marquez Viciedo 3-5, 2 HR Barons won 5-1 Lowe Dash won 9-8 Doyle Kanny doubleheader: Won game 1 5-0 Won game 2 9-5 Rienzo filthy in game 1, Thompson homered in both games. Voyagers won 12-10 Burnside Johnson City @ Bristol Heidenreich 6 IP, 0 R, 6 K, 0 BB, 5 H
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 22, 2010 -> 01:12 AM) Mercy...that was 7 hours of our lives we'll never get back, but at least it doesn't seem like a total waste of time. Gained a half game today lol
  6. Phew. I would have bailed on the season if they lost this game.
  7. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Aug 22, 2010 -> 01:07 AM) Whats it like to be a member of this bullpen when you're hanging out with the players in the clubhouse or on the plane? You know you are KILLING what the guys have been working for since January. It's ok, they already lived through the opposite in April and May when they were the only unit on the team doing well.
  8. QUOTE (CQMVP @ Aug 22, 2010 -> 01:05 AM) Can we blow this too? The White Sox have proven time and time again the ability to blow leads in the past week+. It's not a matter of can. Putz 2nd inning? Seems like a surefire blown save.
  9. Always giving us just enough hope to think they can finally convert a save this time.
  10. This is surreal. Has a Major League team ever blown this many consecutive leads in the 9th?
  11. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Aug 22, 2010 -> 12:52 AM) Easy there... Starting to believe is hardly a jinx. However, if he blows this and the Sox go on to lose I don't think I'll watch a full Sox game the rest of the year.
  12. Putz looks good. I'm starting to believe he'll actually get this save.
  13. I said 6 wasn't going to do it. I didn't think it would come down to the 9th though. This is setting up to be painful. Can we get a save one freaking time?
  14. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 22, 2010 -> 12:24 AM) The problem is not Oz calling for bunts; the problem is our hitters can't bunt. They should be fined every time they fail and maybe they'll learn how. Players shouldn't waste their time on learning the skill of bunting.
  15. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 22, 2010 -> 12:14 AM) If Oz should be fired for Kotsay; the house should be cleaned with KW gone for Mr. Strikeout Mark Teahen. Teahen was acquired for Josh Fields and Chris Getz. How is that a bad move at all? If anything it's crap for crap and you shouldn't care.
  16. Wow I was certain that was going to be a leadoff walk to start an ugly inning. Good thing the Royals suck.
  17. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 21, 2010 -> 11:50 PM) DO NOT BUNT! With Lillibridge's speed, just let Juan swing away. I'm all for bunts being bad, but what does Lillibridge's speed have to do with it in this spot? The idea is to move him over for a sac fly.
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 21, 2010 -> 09:42 PM) Because we've seen it get destroyed all season. When he was going well during interleague play, he finally started using the 4-seamer/curve as his only pitches. Since he left for bereavement leave, he hasn't been the same with his pitch selection. His stuff has varied from outing to outing this season. That's the problem. His sinker was on tonight and he was unlucky to not get Aviles out. To blame Bobby is poor considering the 5-1 lead that was blown in the 7th.
  19. QUOTE (Friend of Nordhagen @ Aug 21, 2010 -> 09:40 PM) First one to tell me why Garcia was allowed to let the tying run come to the plate . . . gets a big 'ol prize! Ozzie was desperately trying to save the bullpen. Staffing game 2. Someone is going to have to explain to me how Jackson can't go at all tonight after a 7 pitch outing?
  20. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 21, 2010 -> 09:36 PM) I'm so f***ing sick of that mediocre sinker he throws. How the heck is that a mediocre pitch? He dominated the first 2 hitters with it.
  21. Bad luck outing by Jenks there. Had good stuff, should have gotten Aviles out.
  22. QUOTE (RudyLawRules @ Aug 21, 2010 -> 09:14 PM) How in the heck did Sale last 13 picks? Plain nasty. Oddly enough rumors of a high signing bonus demand combined with minor injury concerns.
  23. QUOTE (WinorDie88 @ Aug 21, 2010 -> 09:09 PM) now we blow it with a walk-off watch. I know this team all too well. Except Sale's stuff is fantastic tonight. They're not touching him. Hopefully we can squeeze another inning out of him. And I'm not buying 101 for a second.
