  1. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 1, 2010 -> 02:22 PM) Keep an eye out here, we'll have the new Top 25 list out soon. Also, danman, myself and others will start putting some offseason material out on the ChicagoNow site (and link here), to keep things moving. That reminds me I forgot to link this here: October news and notes Complete list of White Sox players in the Caribbean leagues as well as a few other tidbits.
  2. I always saw Leesman as a reliever, but lefty relievers are still valuable.
  3. QUOTE (zenryan @ Oct 31, 2010 -> 09:52 PM) On the other hand, if the kid was terrified for his safety, he should have told the coach that he wasnt filming no matter what. Sure. I heard a rumor that he complained about it, but I haven't heard anything since so it's probably not true. Definitely a reasonable point.
  4. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Oct 31, 2010 -> 04:54 PM) The University has made the decision to let people on those things now a university decision not a coaching staff decision. As far as I know the video guy is a part of practice. The kid was very scared up there and it cost him his life. I'm sure you are correct, there are many coaches if not all that would have held practice and had the kid up filming. That doesn't mean its not a huge mistake. I do feel sorry for Kelly in a way even though I think he's a snake. He just happened to be the coach this happened to. It probably could have been 100 other coaches. That argument may have been true, but Jim Tressel moved practice inside because of wind earlier. It's not all of them. Most maybe, but at least one coach knew better. I'm sure others would too. I also just want to make sure you didn't mean the kid being scared was why he died, that was worded oddly.
  5. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Oct 31, 2010 -> 12:03 AM) What? If the wind was blowing 600 mph, would you be saying the same thing? From all accounts, it wasn't a technical problem. It was a common sense one. Exactly. I don't see how it's not Kelly's fault.
  6. QUOTE (knightni @ Oct 30, 2010 -> 05:46 PM) They're playing without the starting QB, RB,& TE since 4 weeks ago, and have an injured #1 WR. I think he gets this year as slack. If he doesn't win more next year, then compete for a BCS berth by year 3, then there will be talk. Performance wise sure, but I really think the student dying could blow up on him.
  7. Kelly can't possibly make it out of this season right? Between what happened during the week and now the bad season, I can't argue against it. I'm mostly basing this on the tragedy that was mismanaged because I wouldn't normally support a year one firing. Am I just bitter because Mizzou is playing like crap or is this a valid possibility?
  8. Missouri's schedule is exactly the reason why Boise should never play for a national title. You beat OU and Nebraska back to back weeks and then the south champ later in the season and you can play for a title. None of this La Tech on Tuesday bulls***. Blah
  9. He would have been fairly far along if he didn't miss 2010. You can call him raw now, but he went straight to Kannapolis and did decently right after the draft.
  10. QUOTE (fathom @ Oct 27, 2010 -> 09:53 PM) Bulls lost this game by too many blown layups in the 4th quarter as well as too many passes right to OKC defenders in the 4th quarter. I was very pleased with the effort level, but let's face it, this is a team missing their best scorer and it's hard to overcome that with the plethora of suckiness we have at the 2g. The 4th was awful. I was having Vinny flashbacks. My initial reaction was 'good thing we got another rookie coach that doesn't know how to coach the last 5 minutes.' Obviously, that's unfair but it is a concern until he proves otherwise. And yeah, the 2s are brutal on this team. Keith Bogans starting? Ugh. It's hard to get excited when they don't have Boozer and have no shot of getting out of the 2nd round anyway.
  11. To say Boise in a BCS conference can't be compared to now because they don't have the facilities or the money they would in the BCS is a bad argument. They don't have that money and that's why people are skeptical. They can't match these teams off the field so why do we think they can match them on the field?
  12. QUOTE (SuperSteve @ Oct 25, 2010 -> 09:36 PM) One more thought: people are overlooking that Baylor is ranked 25th and VT is ranked 23rd. In addition, if Baylor can stay hot, they would shoot up the rankings. Baylor will see Texas, Oklahoma State, Texas AM and Oklahoma the final four weeks. Win some of those games and they'll end up being a massive win for TCU. I love Robert Griffin, but Baylor is 3-1 in the Big 12 on beating three North teams not named Missouri or Nebraska. They still have to play arguably the four best teams in the South and already lost to Tech. They're a bowl team with a few really talented players, but I'd be stunned if they won 2 of those games. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Oct 25, 2010 -> 10:58 PM) I dont think Oregon is that different of a team this year. They did the same thing last year until they faced an actual defense. Oregon is going to continue to feast on terrible defensive teams in the Pac Ten until USC returns back to the top. It's possible, but they do have a different QB for better or worse. It looks different to me, even if just subtly.
  13. The only thing I would disagree with from all of that is that Boise beat TCU last year so that should play in as a tiebreaker between the two this year. I only say this because neither team is especially proven and it's hard to see a major difference in either so far this season. At least with Oregon, you can see they are a different team than last year so the Boise game shouldn't play as big of a role. I understand this is a double standard to some extent, but for the most part I think it's the only way to separate Boise and TCU because the resumes are so similar.
  14. QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Oct 25, 2010 -> 12:07 AM) It's not that you want to know what you need right away...it's that you need the opponent to play it like it's a one possession game. You don't go for the 2 until you absolutely have to, and most teams do this. I understand the point, I just don't agree with it. It's certainly not an awful decision as was said earlier. You can either both sides. As for the opponent playing like it's a one score game may not be a big difference. I would assume the play calling is similar. The primary goal is to kill the clock either way. I think the only possible change is the team in the lead playing nervous because it's getting closer. I still don't think it's a major decision either way.
  15. QUOTE (zenryan @ Oct 24, 2010 -> 07:08 PM) It has nothing do with making the other team nervous. It's all about keeping yourself in the game as long as possible. With 6 minutes left, odds are you'll probably only get 1 more chance so why risk putting yourself in a position where you need the ball twice. Plus it takes a lot of steam out of your team if you fail to get those 2 points. You only chase the points when you need to. OU didnt need to start chasing at that point. I don't understand this logic at all. You need a two either way so what's the difference? If you don't get it, you're down an extra score no matter when you go for it. The risk of needing the ball an extra time is missing the two. It doesn't matter when you miss it. Like I said before, you want to know what you need ASAP. If you get the two, it's obviously just a 7 point game. If you miss it, you still have 6 minutes to get two scores. You know you can't spend the whole clock on one drive. If you go for it down 9 and miss it, you know you need to play for 2 scores. If you don't go for it and don't get the 2 the next time, the game is pretty much over.
  16. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Oct 23, 2010 -> 09:57 PM) My school (as of next year) is making Oklahoma sweat. You'll love it there. Especially with the football program churning out solid seasons every year. QUOTE (zenryan @ Oct 23, 2010 -> 10:53 PM) Trying to figure out why OU would go for 2 after making it 36-27. Why not keep it a one score game for the final 6-7 minutes? Amazing how many dumb decisions coaches make week in and week out at the college level. I don't think that was a bad call. I know the idea is to cut it to 8 and make the other team nervous, but I think you want to know if you can make the 2 or not. With that much time left I think it's better to know if you need another score with 6 minutes left instead of putting all your eggs in one basket and being screwed with less than a minute to go if you're down 2.
  17. Gotta like what Oregon showed tonight. Really impressive stuff.
  18. QUOTE (whitesoxfan101 @ Oct 18, 2010 -> 11:25 PM) Remember when everybody (and I mean EVERYBODY, I can't remember one person who liked the hire) laughed at Auburn for hiring Gene Chizik? And Charles Barkely implied it was racist since they didn't hire Turner Gill? Yeah, ummm, oops. That's what the Auburn AD has his job, and we don't. I won't say I liked the hire, but it wasn't like Chizik was bad at Iowa State. I think he was average there, but he wasn't there long and you just didn't know about him. Hard to evaluate a guy after 3 years at any school, but you can't compare what a coach can do at Iowa State and what a coach can do at Auburn.
  19. QUOTE (zenryan @ Oct 16, 2010 -> 11:39 PM) Well they will be number 1 but I think OU should be the top ranked team. Just because of what they did to Florida State? OU has 4 wins by one score. They don't have style points right now, even though their schedule is solid. I think it's hard to judge the Sooners right now.
  20. So Jerrod Johnson isn't that good and Mizzou is pretty legit. Let's go Texas.
  21. Yet to see Phegley play. I wonder if he was part of the taxi squad. It would make sense for him to have limited playing time.
  22. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 14, 2010 -> 08:05 PM) Hope he's feeling ok. Pinch hit K for him later.
  23. QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Oct 14, 2010 -> 03:36 PM) You don't like this video??? Haha I knew that was coming. I'm just annoyed that these things are everywhere. They're not the least bit original.
  24. QUOTE (Soxbadger @ Oct 14, 2010 -> 12:05 PM) Hey Rock, You ready? These white boy college rap videos NEED to stop. f***ing awful.
  25. I think Dayan wasn't eligible, but I don't know. He missed a lot of time in the IL.
