  2. QUOTE (daa84 @ Sep 5, 2010 -> 09:41 AM) the officials absolutely gift wrapped the game to Northwestern last night....what bulls***.....two horrendous, horrendous personal foul calls give the cats a first down on their last two drives to seal the game .... That's a major stretch. NU led the whole game and the calls were bad on personal fouls both ways. As Zoom said, the helmet to helmet one was a no-brainer and before the questionable call NU was a big favorite to end the game on that drive anyway. What was the deal with that f'd up formation when going for the tying 2? Shotgun with 2 RBs to the left of the QB and then a WR going in motion to the right of the center? It's no wonder the center threw it away.

  4. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Sep 4, 2010 -> 02:50 PM) Some promising things from the Illinois defense, Leshoure is a stud. Scheelhaase needs to get a lot better but the major concern has to be the offensive line which was a freaking joke today. Leshore was impressive. Scheelhaase has some talent, but a long way to go. I guess that should be expected. I wouldn't get down on the o-line yet. Mizzou has some really good DEs. Aldon Smith is one of the best in the country. I was so upset with the first half that I couldn't bare to watch most of the 3rd quarter, but the halftime adjustments were terrific. Mizzou cleaned up the mental mistakes from the first half and beat a team they should have. It would have been so typical of Zook to succeed once the expectations drop again. Now Mizzou has 3 crappy non-conference games to clean up their act so they are ready for Big 12 season. It looks like another 8-4 team though.
  5. QUOTE (zenryan @ Sep 4, 2010 -> 10:12 AM) Hopefully everyone got arrested and the kids without the shirts got a severe beating off camera. It's "the U", there will be a documentary made about them praising how they changed college football. Ahh college football is back.

  7. QUOTE (danman31 @ Sep 2, 2010 -> 04:16 PM) Eduardo Escobar, Justin Greene, Brandon Short and Jon Gilmore were named Carolina League postseason all-stars. Joe McEwing was named Manager of the Year for second straight year. Just realized that Drew Lee was a postseason all-star in the Appy League from Bristol and that was it for the White Sox organization. Knights, Barons, Intimidators shut out. Great Falls probably will have some when the Pioneer League announces, but that's pretty bad.
  8. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Sep 3, 2010 -> 07:54 AM) 22 in A Ball isn't exactly old. Certainly if he was 20 and doing that in A ball it would be more impressive, but this is also only his second year in American pro ball. They seem to be taking their time with him, and that's fine. Not old, but a possible concern.
  9. Completely agree regarding the timeout rule. I find it to be classless too. It's intentionally trying to bother your opponent. I understand other aspects of the game are like that, but it's tacky to me.
  10. Andre Rienzo. In Low-A, but has been striking out a lot of guys. 22 year-old Brazilian. He needs to be pushed next year so he can be more age appropriate, but his background and numbers support him being a solid prospect. The Kanny MR guy really liked him, low to mid 90s fastball.

  13. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 09:13 PM) Makes no sense, but I have heard that our AA pitching coach is very good and there is thoughts we promoted him simple to see if our AA can fix him. Considering he is in the AFL, I'd bet the promotion was so he could be in that. Each team is allowed only one player below AA level and that spot is obviously going to Jared Mitchell.

  15. QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 07:56 PM) I would think he would start in AA. Better competition there. Better talent maybe, not better competition.
  16. QUOTE (knightni @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 02:58 PM) When did they take him off of the 40? They didn't. He's on the 40.
  17. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 02:47 PM) Really...he reminds me an awful lot of 2006 Liriano in his raw stuff. He needs some control work to reach that point...but that's the kind of "stuff" he's bringing to the table. He could well be better if he has a better change. His scouting report said plus fastball, plus change, plus control, average slider that's tough on lefties. The slider seems better and the control seems worse than that, but I think a large part of the control is that he went from college to MLB hitters in a few months. Maybe he's having trouble consistently finding his slot coming out of the bullpen. There are so many factors that could be messing with his control. I think it's reasonable to expect that improves for next season with more work.
  18. QUOTE (CQMVP @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 02:37 PM) I think you make him a starter. Peavy will more than likely get hurt again, even if he's ready at the start of the year. It is just inevitable. It would be nice to have a guy like Sale to throw into that spot. I agree. You obviously want Sale as a starter in the long run, might as well prep him for that spot instead of giving him the Brandon McCarthy treatment.
  19. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 02:41 PM) Hmmm.... Whatever it was, I guess at 85-87, those pitches had to be change-ups? I could only tell from the MLB.com AT BAT images...so Sale's slider is a hard breaking one like Liriano's that's 89-92 MPH? No wonder everyone is worried about an injury with that kind of torque. Not sure on the torque, but I've been following him on gameday while watching and his slider moves a lot differently. It's a 84-87 mph pitch like the change, but the p f/x is only a few inches while the change drops similar to his fastball.
  20. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 02:16 PM) What's most impressive is his ability to already control a much better slider than Thornton...and from what everyone says, his change-up might be his best pitch, and he's not even using that out of the bullpen. He used the change to a couple of the righties today. I hadn't noticed it before, but it was definitely a change and not a slider.
  21. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Sep 1, 2010 -> 02:27 PM) Not exactly the learning experience you want to give a kid who has very little pro ball experience. This kid might be more helpful in 2011 as a closer than a starter. It depends on how he does in spring. If his stuff translates as a starter (and it should, his changeup will come into play more often), he should be given a shot in spring. The offseason will probably decide his role. If a current starter gets dealt or if Peavy isn't ready for the start of the year then Sale should be a starter. The thing is, if you make him a reliever he won't be able to replace an injured starter. Which spot has more value?
  22. Teahen had a DP ball, took him right to the bag. Throw was off line. Konerko jumped off bag to catch it, but the runner slid under the tag and was safe.
  23. Sergio got some serious help that inning. Sale to close it out?
  24. Huge DP. No more hangers though, Sergio.
